Breaking News: Walsh, Knicks To Pass On Iverson
By Ben Kopelman - Nov 20, 2009 2:33 pm

Maybe AI isn’t the Answer?

Via ESPN:

“The New York Knicks…decided bringing the four-time NBA scoring champion aboard would be at odds with the franchise’s long-term rebuilding plans.

“The decision was reached late Thursday night after discussions among team president Donnie Walsh, coach Mike D’Antoni and owner James Dolan.

“It did get interesting for a while because Allen’s a great player and has always been a great player,” Walsh said Friday. “You’re 1-9 and you’re thinking, ‘We’ve got to get some help in here.’ But when we rethought it and I talked to Mike and he talked to me, we feel that could hurt our development of the future, and so we want to go the way we’re going.

“There will be other things we can do during the year that will be more in line with what our philosophy has been entering into this. And I want to really make it clear that this has nothing to do with Iverson. He’s a great player, I’ve always admired him. I think he’d be a great addition for a team that is in a different position than we’re in, and I hope he gets picked up.”

At least DW is consistent…he didn’t want to deviate this summer, and he doesn’t want to deviate now.

But the difference for me is, how does bringing AI in today, for one year at the league’s veteran minimum, really make a difference?  How does AI over Duhon NOT make sense?

The only thing I can think of is that DW has had a few conversations about Jefferies and/or Curry and thinks he can get a better guard later this season via trade.  But who planted that seed in his head?  What team out there is already picking up the phone to make inquiries about either of those guys?

If Walsh is going to hide behind the development of our future, Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill need to be on the floor 20 minutes a game every game, and Dino needs to be shooting for all 4 quarters night in and night out. There was no excuse for these guys to be relegated to partial playing time before AI was on the market, and there is even less of an excuse now that it looks like we’re gonna pass on bringing him in.

But past reports claimed that D’Antoni was the one urging to bring Iverson in, so how does reshuffle his deck now?  At this point, I really don’t know what to think anymore…

Apparently, Walsh HAS been on the phones… I’d bet his deal is getting a trade offer AFTER signing AI and having our return be a player who will not mesh with Iverson. It’s my only guess as of now.

I am not saying that Gallo is def gonna be either Dirk or Hedo, but has the potential to be. The way I look at Gallo right now is he was playing for the Freshman Team (Italy) and got called up to the Varsity team (NBA) and has not adjusted yet, but i really think he will be an all-star – he just needs time.

Also making your teammates better is the exact reason why this team stinks right now. We have too many players who are out “To Get Theirs” and not to make anyone around them better.

The 2nd half of the Pacer game was only only time I felt like this team was playing to win for the guy next to them and you can tell b/c they were actually playing DEFENSE!!!!!

It’s going to be hard to package the right players for TMac. I would love to send Hughes & Curry, but they’ll probably also ask for a future unprotected #1.

Curry/Lee/Duhon for McGrady/Lowry IF you know that: Douglas is your future 1 or is gonna be a 2 because Lowry is your backup for next year; an RFA owed just under $3M as a Qualifier. Isn’t it true they were high on Lee? Obviously, this can’t happen until the end of December, but…….

you just have to match McGrady’s 23 million dollar salary..

you’d need

Eddy 10.5
Mobley 9.5
Chandler 1.2
total 21.2

to match within 125% plus 100k of the outgoing.

Comment by traps9
2009-11-20 16:21:57

True; Mobley’s a good piece to play with in that situation. Only thought is, I’m concerned on how you move Jeffries if you don’t package him with Chandler.

Comment by BiggieSmalls
2009-11-20 16:51:52

Curry is the harder to mov obviously… JJ making 6+ mil can go in a number of ways..

Maybe Washington or even Boston or any other team looking for someone to play defense at the deadline .. or package him with Nate and send him to one of the Pacific North West teams..

I’ll tell you how Iverson over Duhon makes no sense…IVERSON IS NOT A POINT GUARD. Signing Iverson would give us three shooting guards in point guard bodies (Iverson, Nate, Toney Douglas). Say what you want about Duhon, but at least he does not need to dominate the ball to be effective. One of the Knicks’ primary problems right now is ball movement. They have a bunch of guys who dominate the ball and have no idea how to do something simple such as make the extra pass (Harrington, Chandler). Iverson would exacerbate this problem, since he needs at least 25 shots to get his buckets. Part of the reason that the D’Antoni’s Suns were so successful was not only because they had Nash but they had guys who had high Basketball IQ and know when to pass and when to score (Joe Johnson, Q-Rich, Barbosa). Not to mention if you look at the stats, which thankfully Knickerblogger does, both Nate and Douglas are essentially better versions of Iverson at this point. Walsh did the right thing in not succumbing to moronic pleas for a player who would only make the Knicks better on paper.

How in the world could you say that Nate and T-Doug are better versions of Iverson at this point in time? Iverson is still capable of scoring 30 on any given night. Nate is a worse decision maker than Ivey and He’s 3 inches shorter! Douglas is a rookie nuff said. As for Duhon, He’s not a better option over anybody period. You said he doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be effective? He not effective in any way, defensively, shooting, driving to the basket, and he only makes good decisions off of pick and roll with David Lee. The people who think that Iverson would be this malcontent with this team are way off IMO. The man averaged 26 a night his last season in Denver along side a top 5 player in this league. He can still score and who cares if he takes Nate or Duhon’s minutes, there not in our long term plans and he’s better than them!!

Im with you 100% Ben, this just makes no sense. Npowell, Duhon stopped being a pg when he stopped playing basketball. He makes nobody on the court any better, it seems he usually has more turnovers than assists, he can’t hit a shot, and he can’t play defense. He has just been really terrible all year. iverson would have been a major improvement in every way over Duhon, and if Walsh is talking about developing rookies than he better make sure that his coach is playing them all and making sure they are involved. Because from what I saw in Indiana, that did not look like a team trying to develop youngsters, but a team full of over the hill overpaid veterans trying to hang on to the delusion that they can be a good basketball team. I think this is just craziness, unless DW has something else planned.

I agree with you on your point that D’Antoni better start playing all his rookies more. That was the exact reason why I not all that happy with the comeback the other day, none of our kids were on the court when it happened…I hope this does not give D’Antoni a false sense that he needs to play the vets more.

I wanna hear the clowns that talk about ball hoggers and hindering development, next season when maybe Lebron or D.Wade are dominating the rock. The point that you guys are being fooled with is that there will be no development this year either.

Jordan Hill will not see alot of playing time with Eddy Curry back and Coward Lee, Al Harrington ahead of him in the depth chart.

Gallo will be out soon because of his back flaring up again, or T-Mac gets here and makes Gallo non-existent.

Chandler is a space cadet, until further notice. His performance in indiana is nothing to me, because he will continue to be inconsistent.

Toney Douglas is pretty much the only one capable of developing because:
!.He’s getting as nice amount of minutes.
2. Duhon is a horrific point guard.
3. Nate Robinson is not a point guard.

None of these guys stand out to Lebron or D.Wade please believe that!

Playing Gallo 17, Douglas 10 and Hill 3 Minutes but talking about “Development of the future”. Yeah, right…

Walsh better have a talk with Coach Mike about this ridiculousness.

I won’t shed a tear about Iverson. I guess he could have made the Knicks more watchable short term, but that’s not too important right now. This team’s young core need to be competetive. Not bringing in Iverson alone won’t cut it.

So having Toney at pg, Iverson at sg, Wilson at sf would hurt the development of the young players? I’m not mad that the Knicks didn’t get Iverson, it’s the lame excuses about the young players developing..when they aren’t getting the time or the exposure to develop! S&*! is crazy. i don’t know what else to say, lol.

Well, yeah, the problem is the front office is saying one thing (we need room to develop our young players) and doing the opposite (not playing them).

Iverson would have been great/fun this year, but with the ball in his hands Curry was not going to get the looks he needs to become tradeable, and that’s just as important as developing Gallo/Douglas/Hill.

DaGawd,

1. A coach is only as good as the players he is coaching – see Phil Jackson and D’Antoni in Phoenix. No one would be able to coach this team…no one.

2. 3 players on this team are Donnie’s players: Gallo, Hill and TD. All of the others are Isiah’s players or players that we acquired to dump Isiah’s trash and fix our salary cap situation.

DW has this offseason to fix the team, I will reserve my final judgement until then…be it good or bad.

If it will make some people here happy…if I had to grade DW today…I’d give him a B. He fixed our salary cap problem which is something I never thought I’d ever see get fixed and that would get him an A in my book, but he did fall asleep at the wheel with regards to Jennings, but so did Memphis, Minnesota, Sacramento, OKC and Golden State, so i will lower the grade based on that.

I liked the Gallo pick when he made it and I like it today…still think he is gonna be an all-star.

the goal over the next 25 games should be to make Lee/Duhon/JJ/Nate and Curry look as good as possible.

trade Duhon for any draft pick you can get or nothing if necessary — that will ultimately open up PT for Douglas.

Manage Curry and get him up to 25-28 minutes a nite so some sucker ..er… GM thinks he can help

IF you can move Lee or Nate for one useful long term asset or get their confidence back it will help out int he asset department.

At this point I dont care about Milicic, Buckets, Hughes or any of the other one year mercenaries disgracing the uniform.

Give Hill plenty of practice time and have him slot in once you clear the front court logjam.

2009-11-20 16:26:08

Perfect Biggie, you should be both managing and coaching them. The goal is to turn those guys into long term assets. Although I would add that it is extremely important to make sure Douglas and Gallo see as many minutes as they can and as much responsibility as they can. I could not care less about buckets or hughes, though I would like to see if Darko may possibly be a cheap fit. He has not gotten enough minutes.

Some players just aren’t ready to get 20-30 minutes a night. Sometimes there are other forces at play. If the game is winnable, maybe you give a hot Larry Hughes TD’s minutes. Maybe you let Jeffries take some charges instead of giving minutes to Hill.

Development comes not only with minutes in game time, but working with coaches and trainers throughout the year. Just because they aren’t playing doesnt mean they arent getting better.

In some cases, giving a rookie minutes who is not yet ready for it can hinder their development: they gain bad habits or become discouraged.

Comment by ds2488
2009-11-20 16:44:03

very true Justin but on a team this bad why not just play the rookies. On a decent team, sure they should work their way up and have to earn a spot in the rotation. I would say that it is equally discouraging for Jhill to have to watch the suckiness that is Jared jeffries play minutes instead of him, without really being given a reason why. Or for TD to have to watch Duhon stink it up.

Comment by JustinCharles
2009-11-20 17:14:52

When Duhon was struggling they let TD start. He got big minutes for a few games and then Nate came back. You can’t not play Nate, and if you bench Duhon right now, you risk demoralizing him and losing him for the rest of the season. Jared Jeffries is playing good ball this year. He’s taking charges, playing D, and has developed a three point shot.

These guys know their reasons for not playing. You have to understand that every day there is practice and conversations that you dont get to just read about. If Jordan Hill gains 20 pounds and works with a big man specialist over the summer, he comes back next year as a new player.

With big guys in college, they score a lot of their points using their size to score over smaller defenders. All of a sudden, every defender is just as big if not bigger than you are, so you need to adjust. Fortunately, post skills are teachable. It’s all footwork and positioning. Rebounding is something that you kind of either have or you dont. Hill’s got the rebounding skills, he just needs to learn the post skills.

I could agree with you more Ben. Now let’s see IF Gallo, Hill & Douglas get 20 minutes a night since now it is convienient to hide behind them to support this non-action by Management.

Duhon has been lost since the middle of last season, the team doesnt follow his on the court leadership, when he spoke up after the Milwaukee game they pretty much told him to STFU…..Is Iverson more of a distraction than the off the court history of Chris Duhon?

So now Eddy Curry is the answer? They sent him home in training camp. I no longer want to hear about the 2010 plan, I no longer want trades leaked in the press to see how the public responds, I’m no longer interested in HEARING about what they are going to do. I want to see it done. I want to see Eddy starting, I want minutes for Hill and Douglas, I want more plays designed for Gallo. Until all that happens, they can all STFU!

So someone other than me noticed the other players I call the sweatband squad shutout Duhon. But they also did/tried to Lee, Lee makes his own shots and play so it didn’t work.

That’s Harrington who wants to become the man and stay in New York. He even said so. It seems he has some other veterans on his side and has split the team. It shows especially with Chandler’s game as much as Duhon’s. He has undermined the captains on this team and if he did that to my team I would have suspended him and sent him home, D’ant doesn’t have the balls.

This team is split and they shutout Duhon, Gallo and DLee but they know they have to include DLee. That’s why we are 2-9 and D’ant is not strong enough to fight this. Also on this sweatband squad is Jefferies the worst player on the roster, he looks/plays like a dork.

For every good thing he does on the court he does 3 or 4 stupid ones, I counted them, he makes some really dumb plays and has very poor hands. I have seen him loose the ball so many times trying to rebound or score like the ball has a repelling force.

I hate to sound like a DW sympathizer, cuz i can’t defend fhis organization w/ this tragedy of a year…BUT i think DW is gearin up for somethin…SOMETHIN BIG…
I think D’ANTONI is gonna showcase all his veteran Contract Yr Knick players until someone bites all the way til the trade deadline…then i think whether they make moves or not after trade deadline he gives the ‘FUTURE CORE’ PT and sees what he’s got w/ them…
I’m gettin my doubts w/ DW & D’ANTONI BUT i don’t think they’re stupid enough to ride the season w/ this dreadful line up…PLUS i think losing really gets to DW & D’ANTONI…
IF the plan is 2010 then gettin rid of JJ & CURRY is still a big part and w/ all of our vet. exp. contracts he’s gotta showcase ALL the unwanteds cuz JJ & CURRY aren’t gettin traded straight up…
If i’m right and it goes like i layed it out then DW & D’ANTONI keep their credibility & swag…BUT if i’m wrong and this is not where their heads are at THEN I’M CONVINCED THAT MSG HAS A TOXIC GAS IN THEIR A/C SYSTEM THAT MAKES EVERYONE WHO WORKS THERE BRAIN DEAD!!!!!

DW has been a GM for 25+ years. He does not and will not build a team of over-the-hill stars like Iverson or McGrady. Stop wishing for them, guys. He ain’t gonna do it. DW is not dumb or senile. He is a competent GM and attorney. Dolan hired him to build a franchise, not a one-shot wonder that is a little better with washed up guys. DW has a plan — he is building young and the plan takes a few years. So forget about wins this year. DW can only build one piece at a time. Most of the schlubs they have now are gone in 1 or 2 years. Deal with it. Forget about wins this year. There is no way to make a team this year. If they had 1 great player, like a point guard, then they could win more, but they can’t for now.

Did u notice that Jerry West left LA and was not able to build a championship team. Any idea why? And why haven’t the Bulls won any championships since Jordan retired?

DW built solid playoff teams that were better than the Knix with Ewing. He drafted Miller, Smits, the Davis bros. and other solid guys. He is clearing the IT disaster and trying to build a new team. Next summer he can begin.

this is a small list of Guards & forwards who were drafted between 10 and 35. that are still in the league. You figure out how many years it took until they started to get noticed and/or won a championship and MVP status or franchise player or great team player..The draft is BS…it’s all about the upswing…
Gilbert Arenas-#31
Tayshaun Prince #23
C.Boozer 34
Tony Parker #28
Kobe #13
J.O’Neal #17
Dontae Jones #21
Derek Fisher #24
Turkoglu#16
Paul Pierce #10 (how long was he on the C’s until they won all the marbles?)
Rashard Lewis#32
Rafer Alston#39
Artest#16
Kirilenko# 24
Steve Nash #15 ( drafted in 96- has been playing in the NBA for 13 years- no rings. became amazing in the last 5 years)

How did the Warriors need Curry? Have you seen their roster? Curry a player of need? Hardly.

I love guys are already calling Hill a bad pick and a bust. Its been 10 games in. My god give the kid some time to develop.

And who says the Knicks aren’t happy with their pick?

And you need someone to trade up to trade down. How do you kill the knicks for not trading down when you don’t know if they were offered anything. Maybe the Knicks tried to trade down but there were no takers. I doubt it but just sayin.

Hill may develope into a nice player down the road. That does not change THE FACT that he was a terrible pick.

Okay, I have no idea what’s in DW’s mind, but I was just thinking today the same thing Biggie was saying.

The Knicks aren’t going to make a dream run to the playoff, that’s kind of obvious. The plan from day one has been 2010. I have been pretty mad with the lack of playing time our rooks are getting just like everybody else… but is that really the best thing for this team?

I mean, after all this is an 82 games regular season. Mike D can just start handing the team over to the rooks when we hit the 41st or 51st game.

The way I see it, DW is not only thinking “growing up our kids”. He is also trying to maximize what he has in his inventory (crappy players). How can he possibly do it? Playing them. Trying to make them look good. People this is not only the plan for Eddy Curry and Jeffries alone… this is also the plan for Duhon, Hughes, Al and why not, Lee and Nate. Let’s face it, they are all dead weight that will be gone after this year… but why not try to get something out of them for the future? Even if it is towells or practice balls?

Come the trading deadline, we need to make this people look as best as possible in order for teams (stupid enough) interested or desperate enough could take that weight and give us ANYTHING (balls, second round draft picks, food… ANYTHING would be great).

So the stance I’m taking is… go ahead, play the vets… but come April it’s Rooks Time. If we couldn’t get anybody traded for that time of the year then just bench their asses and let the rooks take control. A good solid filled with responsible 30-25 strecth could set the tone just the way Wilson Chandler did a couple of seasons ago, that during that strecht was when people realized he was better than we thought and he opened some eyes. Also this gives Jordan Hill time to aclimate to the NBA, Gallo to not go so hard on his back… and the only one who seems ready to be a part of the rotation player is TD so he should keep getting some minutes now and them.

But the best thing that could happen to us is TRADES, not FA Signings. We need to “try” to get the best deals POSSIBLES for our dead weight and by God I HOPE… this is what DW is thinking.

And I’m giving him until 2010 to hand out my grading of his works… and boy it has been painful so far.

thanks for the props..

thing is Rooks who get early burn get tired at the 50 game mark as they have NEVER played that long.. with practice and erything it is a big adjustment.

So let Herb W. pound on Hill for the next 60 days until we establish these one year stiffs have some have.. then we can jettison the dead weight and play Hill to see what he has in the second half,, Douglas too but he can get some burn in the rotation.. maybe 10-15 mins… out of need.

theres no way johnson leaves atlanta, and comes to a team coached by a man who doesnt think defense is important(oh hes saying that it is now,but only because thats what he thinks we want to hear)the only free agents who will sign with us are the ones who think that dantoni will just let them run up n down the court and shoot 3s at any time that they want and they dont even have to run back to play defense

Great posts by jg2012 and davetherave.
I have no idea what blackwood is talking about in his draft board.
How can you sit here and defend the Warriors picking Curry? You call it a PON? You can’t really expect us to take you serious after saying that can you?
These bloggers know so much more than Donnie.
Donnie has no idea what he’s doing lol.
Even though as Dave said…..the team he put together in Indy beat us everytime we made the playoffs lol.
Some of the things I read on this blog are so funny.

P.O.N = POSITION OF NEED Something see donnie nor you have any idea about!! So the warriors should of taken??? exactly!! your sitting there dissing the warriors for taking the same player the whole city of NY was preying to land??? But Alzheimer donnie was a genius for drafting Hill???
The point of the draft board is to show that if donnie was not going to draft a P.O.N at 8 then trade down get more picks and improve your chances of landing a surprise “project” improving your chances while drafting for P.O.N!! So DVJ before u take your next sip of donnie punch open your eyes to facts and stop being a donnie rider!! You guys are going to have old timer run out of viagra way before his next refill!!! lol

Yeah Blackwood, Walsh was a failure in Indy because he did not draft or trade for Bird, Johnson, Jordan or Shaq. He didn’t win a title, so he’s a dope.

Yea Where are the people bashing Donnie for unloading Crawford and Randolph.

While I agree that maybe he could have upgraded a little the plan all along was for 2010 to be the year. Last year people were on board and now a 2 win start and people are freaking out as if it matters if we win 35 or 20 games this year. Free Agents are going to realize whatever we did this year was with mostly guys who aren’t going to be here.

Love the people who say he screwed the last two drafts up. Based on what? Give our young guys some time. damn.

There are always going to be all star type players that many teams miss but the biggest thing about the draft is to not screw it up. You can’t afford to draft a bust. You have to draft a good player but because you may have not drafted a guy that turns out to be really good doesn’t mean you screwed up.

Yo DVJ, these sports blogs are all the same, just like society — the Hatfields vs. the McCoys, the right vs. the left, the impatient instant gratification youths vs. the wise old guys who know u can’t build a solid winning organization in the short-term unless a Kevin McHale gives u a Kevin Garnett, the loonies who think making the playoffs means anything vs. those who think BFD, what’s the point?

Yeah, Donnie Walsh is a failure — he drafted tall forwards in the 1st rounds last 2 yrs which is exactly what the Knix need and the guys have not become instant great players. Hill has had 3 weeks!

And Walsh was a failure in Indy because he did not draft or trade Bird, Johnson, Jordan or Shaq. He didn’t win a title, so he’s a dope.

I’ll give him 2 more yrs to show us what he can do. He deserves a Nobel prize in economics for quickly dumping these bums and clearing the MOST cap space for next summer in the NBA:

Q
Snax James
Thomas
Crawford
Z-bo
Marbs

He is cleaning house and setting up a future. This year will suck, deal with it guys. No team has a perfect path from crap to dynasty. GIve him 2 yrs to show what he can do. Some luck is bound to come our way, and he has lots of bucks to spend, and u know he won’t cripple the Knix by signing crappy players like James and Jeffries to insane contracts.

Dave

The point is you nor anybody else on this board knows what Donnie is going to do or has in his plans. Why are you judging him when the plan is still in motion? Did 2010 come already and I wasn’t aware or something?
Just relax and let Donnie do what he needs to do.
Don’t forget to take the garbage out before you go to bed son.

It’s obvious to me what Walsh is doing:

1. cleaning out bad contracts
2. dumping guys who play no D
3. getting tall rebounders
4. avoiding panic signings of mediocre players
5. building a young sustainable team
6. setting up cap space to sign 2 superstars who are not over the hill
7. ignoring the idiots who want a playoff berth this year by signing over the hill guys who would not fit the team concept.
8. working away at making the best moves he can but being patient

I understand why everyone is angry and for good reason. We’ve been suffering for over 10+ years to field a competitive team. NYC is a sports town that bleeds for its teams. It has been completely unacceptable how this franchise has been run for the last decade. Scott Layden began the death of NYK basketball. The power struggle between Checketts and Dolan has truly failed the fans. Isiah Thomas was the equivalent of signing AI. The name brand brought hope and excitement however, the truth of the matter is that we haven’t had steady management since Checketts and Grunfeld left. Instead, we’ve had a collection of crap athletes that aren’t worth the paper their money is printed on.

Your right the draft is not about picking the best player on the board or about picking a player for a position of need its about picking projects at a positions you already told Lee you plan for him to play long term and the children of the coaches friend! What is the freakin point of having the money when your team is not an upgrade to his???? How many ways do you guys need to hear that to get it?? You need talent with the money and Gallo is a bust but you guys can keep deluding yourselves if you like!! Oh and DVJ dont forget the knee pads on the way to MSG! lol

A guy who sat out most of his first year, is now only 21 years old and averaging 14 ppg, and you are already labeling Gallo a bust? Are you out of your mind?

Stop with with child of the coaches friends already.

And we want Lee to play here for the long term so much so that we offered him a long term contract before the year…oh wait.

Why do people keep bringing up this thing about the Knicks picking Gallinari as a favor to D’antoni? That is absolutely ridiculous. I actually remember hearing on espn or something that Dantoni wasn’t sure about him and needed to be persuaded. Not to mention that he was extremely highly regarded by most european scouts. But seriously, do you think Dantoni would force DW to take him just as a favor to a friend? Yeah dantoni doesn’t want the best player possible so he can be stuck on a shitty team trying to build around a player who he picked for a friend?

Yo, Blackwood… I think it’s time for you to give it a rest.

Yes, Brandon Jennings is playing GREAT basketball. We all know that, we can see it (I have him in one of my fantasy leagues).

Yes, Donnie Walsh didn’t do his homework on him and that is a position of need.

You right man, you really are. Those are valid points and what is done is done.

But hey, you also have to look at the other side of the bridge. I mean, is it impossible for a player to grow up and get better as time passes by? What would you say if in the end of the road Jordan Hills becomes the Center on the team and avarages 18 ppg 10 rebs 3 stls? Unlikely right? But it’s still a posibility. My point is we have seen MANY players get extremely better as they hang around in the league. Sometimes teams give up on them very ofter. Now, you talk about PON, and yeah I’m convince we need a true PG to get better… but it’s also true that we need a good big man for the future. Right now, who is the big man for the future in our team? So is it so wrong for DW to “TAKE A CHANCE” (roll the dice) with one??? The main goal is not win NOW, it’s to build a more watchable team on the future. I would much rather suck now and maybe next year, if that means we then become one of the top 6 teams in our conference. Why seddle with a mediocre team that would only make an 8th seed and bail?

What DW is doing is what needs to be done. He is going to have hits and he is going to strike out in other decisions. Right now his picks have been based on his plan. But trust me, if the Knicks ever dreamed about Jennings playing at elite level, do you honestly THINK they would have passed on him??? Of course not. But we can’t predict the future can we??

Walsh decided to feel another PON for the future (since Curry and Milicic are the only other tall guys and you know as well as me that they aren’t in the plans of the future). So stop making it seem like he just drafted Hill “for the heck of blowing off a pick”. I do agree that prob the pick should have been a PG, but it wasn’t. Heck, you tell me… which position is not a PON for this team right now? Prov Small Forward with Chandler and Gallo, then we have not one, not two, but three PON… but not for this season… which is the season you are looking (you wanted the player that made an impact right away), after this season we only have 6 players signed (TD, Gallo, Hill, Chandler, JJ and Curry), so we need a little bit of EVERYTHING for the future.

That where Hill comes. Now if he becomes a scrub, then he got it wrong. But until then… just give it a rest dude. Unless you do have that hability to see the future (then tell me the lottery’s numbers while we are at it).

The Warriors just closed out the 2nd Q on a 4-minute 17-2 run against the Blazers to take the lead…they put it all together and blew their doors off running better than any team I’ve seen since the Suns of a few yrs ago. The 5 that did it were Randolph, Morris, Ellis, Curry and Radman. I am shocked that Radman fits in — thought he sucked. Curry and Ellis are showing all their stuff and looks cool and it’s sensational. Randolph too. Looks like this group can run and gun and set things on fire. When they get Biedrins back watch out.
