Preview: Celtics @ Knicks
By Chris Alvino - Nov 22, 2009 12:37 pm

Follow Tommy’s LIVE tweets from MSG.

Tommy Dee says: Check out Zags’ chat with Doc Rivers, who relates to D’Antoni’s struggles.

When: 1 PM

Where: MSG

Lineups:

Celtics:

PG- Rondo

SG- Allen

SF- Pierce

PF- Garnett

C- Perkins

Knicks:

PG- Duhon

SG – Hughes

SF- Chandler

PF- Gallo

C- Lee

Notes:

Today marks the MSG debut for Curry, and with Boston’s fierce frontline, he might be needed. Coming off two nice wins, the Knicks hit a brick wall today in the Boston Celtics. However, we all remember how the Knicks surprised the C’s last season at the Garden. Can magic strike twice on Broadway?

Let’s go Knicks.

Crucial game..

We win this one, we meet the Lakers on a 3-game win streak, and we know Kobe isnt going to take it easy…

We need this one, for some momentum, im praying for us to win this one…

I Thank its more like just having 2 forwards than Gallo playing PF, and we really do need to win this game. I know the Celts are Elite but you never know and it sure would be Sweet! Let’s Go Knicks!

So to answer your question:

Yes, Gallo can take it to the hole and DUNK.

Also, I bench Harrington for that half assed effort on Rondo. You need to attempt to foul or something. Not the whole game, but take him out for the rest of the quarter. You cant let your team know thats acceptable.

David Lee seems useless out there…. Perfect example Chandler is breaking down the court and Lee runs out in front and clogs up the paint without being open, so instead of Chandler dunking or getting fouled he has to settle for a missed pull up J. David Lee isnt even athletic we need athletic bigs he has no place here he’s not even big!

No real attacking the basket yet – except for Gallo and Hughes – settling for outside shots – but at least a good defensive effort overall in the 1st quarter – although the C’s starting off cold.

I hate it that when Curry comes in all we try to do is feed him the ball. How many turnovers have we had simply trying to feed Curry in the post. I’d like to get Curry some looks to but you don’t have to force it.

Gotta chip the rust off him and keep him involved in the game. The faster that he becomes “rust-free,” the faster he can become part of the team or part of a trade.

I’m glad to see him in there for the fact that he makes the Knicks play a more traditonal offense set.

Nate is heating up – with 5 min to go in first half – have to like the effort – though no Dougey or Hill and Gallo seems to have played his minutes in the 1st quarter.

Lee has to put those second shots back with more authority.

Nice attempt there by Gallo – but bad defense at the other end leaving his red headed man open for a three in the corner.

Joe Girardi – awesome – go Yankees.

No matter what in these next few minutes – good job here by Knicks – they are carrying over there efforts from the 2nd half in Indiana and the Nets game to this first half – good consistency effort wise – though I want more attacking the basket.

Just an example of how Gallo affects the team, as the Boston announcers explain:

Gallo and Chandler on the perimeter, Scalabrine must stay locked on Gallo, effectively taking him out of the game momentarily, allowing Chandler to have the one on one look to the lane, resulting in the basket and foul.

One of the highlights from the 1st half for me – drove from the arc right to the hole. He also hit a nice mid-range shot from the corner. Hopefully we get to see some of Douglas in 2nd half. I think he could add a nice 6-8 points to this game.

Curry just grabbing those past two defensive rebounds with authority

Al hitting threes in his sleep

Great steal there against Pierce on one our last possessions in the 3rd and then Nate nailing a three

**** still tempered by that the future four on the roster are not as instrumental again in this game so far – but hey – it’s exciting at least. Just living in the moment for today,

I love Hill and want to see him get minutes but come on, those of you watching the game, where do you see him getting minutes that wouldn’t be detrimental to the game? It’s a close game we’re teetering on here, and we even when the other team has their second unit in, we need to capitalize rather than be watching Hill develop.

I wanna see Hill develop but we are playing the Celts hard right now, theres no room for him.

Comment by Realist_Knick_Fan
2009-11-22 15:10:09

You just sub Hill in for Jefferies minutes – Jefferies is out today. He would just be in the rotation for 8-10 minutes – and yes – he could have made a positive impact – he is 6′10″ – would give Perkins and Wallace fits if not just for a brief period of time. Look – this team is not about winning – it’s fun having this lead agains the Cs – but this season is about larger things than grabbing a win on a Sunday afternoon in November. This season has and always will be about 2010.

Peace.

2009-11-22 15:24:19

I guess I am just of the fan variety who likes to see the team win, especially when we dont have a draft pick. I see a win more valuable than Jordan Hill getting 10 minutes of playing time. A win against an elite team in your conference can boost the entire moral of the team.

Also, you have to look at it from a basketball stand point. Its not just, give Hill all of Jeffries minutes. If Harrington is scoring and Curry is playing well and Lee is grabbing rebounds and Gallo is making plays, you’re gonna give these guys more minutes. As much as you want to see the future, Coach isn’t gonna see a game that can be won and throw in a rookie.

Now onto a west coast trip – where Sacramento looks like the best chance for a win.

Can only really evaluate games on how well the young guys were developed. This is and always has been about 2010 – I am not sure how well Gallo, Chandler, Hill, Douglas were developed today. I guess Chandler a little as he attacked the basket more. Gallo was good in the 1st quarter.

I hear ya kid, but listen almost of this roster will be gone by seasons end. I understand the need to play the youngsters now, but I think the goal is to try and build up value and try to trade the expiring and along with JJ and Curry and to do that they all need to play at this point. If trades are made its going to be even worse than it is now. Listen this team is going anywhere, everyone knows that now, but lets hope they can improve as a team as to make their assets somewhat more marketable, so we can trade them, and suck even more. Lets, as fans, at least all be on board and all agree that the goal is to try to have space to attract to MAX free agents. That is the only way we can attract a 1A type free agent. In the mean time we can only cheer and hope they improve. YOU GET KNOWLEDGE, forget about their record for a little and think about the big picture. Done tell me you are happy with a 35 win team, cuse that was their ceiling before the season and Im hoping that is not what would EARN your respect

Chris Duhon is probably the only starting point guard in the league that manages to play 47 minutes and only score 3 points.

Then again, D’Antoni is the only coach who would keep him on the floor instead of bringing on Douglas who already is the better player on offense AND defense.

Please, someone tell me the graphic was wrong, and the Knicks didn’t have a foul to give. Someone tell me it’s harder than it looks to blitz and foul the ball off a pick and roll. Someone tell me if they fouled, the Celtics would’ve scored, anyway. Someone tell me something to not want to throw my laptop through the flat screen right now.
