Here is an interesting article from former NBA player Eddie Johnson on Hoopshype.com regarding D’antoni

Great article from someone on the outside looking in. I’m already looking past the Mike D’Antoni era. He’s doesn’t seem to know, or even want to adjust.

That article reads like it was written by an eighth grader with ADHD. I’m not sure you could cram more throw away observations in a single blog piece.

You haters would praise any piece that remotely criticizes MD or DW, no matter how ludicrous the “logic.” Pathetic.

Ok, losers, it’s your team, what would YOU do right now? I bet you guys couldn’t agree to more than one move.

Eddy’s shoving of Rondo (who really wasn’t the source frustrating him) rather than Perkins(who was tangled up and shoving with him) made Eddy appear to me like a bully.
Why didn’t he just shove Perkins(someone his own size)?
Unless Rondo did something to Eddy earlier that I didn’t see?

Now, of course I am a Knicks fan, but that was just my observation.

all of them like picking on the small guys that would probably beat there asses in a real fight…

Why would an adult, an NBA veteran get frustrated and lose his mind and shove someone who was not even guarding him? Curry is an immature imbecile who doesn’t really belong in the NBA.

@ ScottD – Excellent observation. I thought the same exact thing. Rasheed Wallace, Kendrick Perkins, and KG, are beating him up in the post all day and what does he do? He pulls the ultimate pussy move and pushes Rondo…

….While his back was turned no less!!!

What a punk. I bet GMs around the league are going to be lining up to trade for this punk now. I don’t know what made me sicker, seeing that, or watch him jog leisurely up and down the court all weekend.

If you guys really believe an NBA GM is going to want to trade for him, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

you’re TOTALLY blowing it out of proportion.

from what i saw, he was getting mauled, and he pushed who he probably thought was perkins. do you really think in that split second he thought…”hey look rondo! he’s smallish, lemme push his ass down!”

it was a snap reaction, he was pissed.

besides if anything, this is probably a net plus for curry … the guy has been soft his whole career, it’s about time he showed he gives a DAMN. Doesn’t bother me one bit.

from recap:

On the other hand, Knicks center Eddy Curry scored six points and grabbed three rebounds in nearly 16 minutes in his third game of the season, but he was called for a flagrant foul type 1 after whacking Rondo in the back of the head in the fourth quarter.

Curry had just missed a layup and Rondo grabbed the defensive rebound. Curry said he was looking for Perkins, with whom he had been battling but, but Perkins wasn’t near him at the time.

“[Rondo] was there,” Curry said. “Honestly, nothing against Rondo. He was there. Perkins was nowhere. Rondo got the rebound after I missed it. It was stupid.” He added: “I hope to not get suspended but we’ll see what happens.”

I have to agree with Mr.Furious. You guys are over reacting. I would love to see the team get more aggressive. We are too soft as a team. Rondo was acting the whole time anyway. Eddie Curry was the only player I seen this year who showed some fire. How many flagrants does this team have anyway? I just want to see him lay Rondo out on the defensive side of the ball next time. That is what we used to be when we were a playoff team. If you guys are that sensitive to what I just observed then you need to watch figure skating. When you get beat up by Wallace and Perkins and the refs don’t give you calls, it is a natural reaction to fight back. It is a silly league now because if you lay a finger on a small man in the act of shooting the whistle blows. But the Big Men get beat up every night and they hold the whistle..

Fire? Dude pushed a guy half his size…while his back was turned. That was a pussy move. If he had any guts he’d do that to KG, Sheed, or Perkins.

I’m sorry I don’t buy that fake tough guy act.

I rather him show some fire running up and down the court with purpose, or grabbing some rebounds out of position. You guys wanna talk about fire and desire? Eddy Curry hasn’t blocked a single shot in 3 games back.

Comment by BiggieSmalls
2009-11-23 12:03:45

im not sure whether Curry pushed him on purpose of whether he was just flailing in that direction.

Curry is so naturally strong he can knock Rondo into the 15th row if he wanted to and was really mad.. But where was Perkins or any of the other C’s coming to protect Rondo?

Curry is a work in progress.. Dont hate on him. .. Dude is out there trying to get US another max contract

@The Guy You wanna know why GM’s will want him because 6′11 excellent post players dont fall in your lap very often. When a playoff team thinks there one player away they will trade for anyone. They wont care he is a lazy bum and could show 100 pounds heavier next year as long as it helps them right now. Which is why teams like SA and Dallas who need post players will look into trading for him.

To me It might be a bully move but at least he is hitting somebody. A couple of years ago he wouldnt breath on somebody without apoligizing, he is making strides maybe in a couple months he will be swinging at small fowards. Plus I hate Rondo and all Bostonians so when any player takes a swing at them I like it.

A little new at this basketball thing and what may appear to be a stupid question.
If Curry turns himself around and turns into a “force” in the league and/or the Knicks, why trade him? Why not keep him around? The Knicks already have cap room for next year.
What are the benefits and/or negatives?
Thanks for any insight

here it comes… :-)

the reason to get rid of Eddy is you can get a MUCH better player using his 11 million dollar slot. Getting that off the books means you can have your pcik of TWO max free agents in the 2010 market.

dont tell anyone.. Curry is an enigma

Comment by The_Guy

ha ha .. probably right.. but who would have thought we’d get a blind governor in NY?

Chances are slim but they were lower b4 the season..and there IS a chance as long as he stays on the court and improves.

At least he is in shape and moving.. every game removes some of the stigma… NBA GMs have short memories

@mho423 – I hope you’re not referring to Eddy Curry when you say excellent post players. We’re all sitting here applauding the fact that for the first time in 3 yrs he’s actually not even in great shape, but good enough shape to run up and down the court without hurting himself.

The facts are, Eddy Curry is lazy. He probably only got in shape because Donnie threatened to void his contract. The dude looks disgusting out there. He jogs/walks up court on offense and defense, doesn’t rebound, doesn’t box out, hasn’t blocked even one shot in the 3 games he’s played this season and you guys think GMs want him?

As for this rumor about Houston wanting him, I don’t believe that at all.

You guys must not know about Rockets GM Darryl Morey. He’s known around the league as one of the brilliant young minds in the game. I’ve heard a few people refer to him as a genius.

He’s one of those guys who uses a very sophisticated system involving pts, rebs, stls, EFG, True Shooting %, etc before every draft pick he makes and every trade he makes.

Eddy Curry is probably the worst rebounding big in the league, doesn’t block shots, defend, or play hard, has a history of weight issues. Check out the Houston Rockets’ roster. Almost every player to a man, is a blue collar player who can fill the stat sheet, plays hard, and is scrappy as hell. That’s why they’re winning games this year.

I don’t see this deal ever happening. Especially not with Houston. I really don’t think he fits the culture of the Houston Rockets.

Comment by BiggieSmalls
2009-11-23 12:10:37

Morley being a stat head may work to our advantage.

Looking at Curry’s offensive efficiency and overall production in his limited minutes he MAY look good to a person who relies on stats.

The Rockets as currently constructed have zero inside post game when Yao is on the mend

I have no faith in Curry, let’s get that straight from the jump. From where I stand the guy simply doesn’t have a motor in that huge frame.

That said, if Curry can manages to play a couple of months and contribute it is not out of the realm of possibility he could be packaged with one of the young guys like chandler or lee or for another expiring. Far more idiotic moves have been made in the NBA, I’m actually hopeful at this point as long as he can stay healthy and play we gotta chance at pawning him off.

Were you not a knick fan when he he averaged 18 pts a game and was unstoppable in the post in 2006-07. He sucks at reboundung and defense but there are alot of teams who dont care. If they need post scoring they will go out and get a player who can. Every GM says they can change him. If a team like Dallas or another playoff team who could use depth on the front line and could use a post scorer they are going to look to Eddy Curry because they will know it’ll take a bag of peanuts to get him.

Im not saying we will trade him Im just saying there is a much bigger chance of him getting traded then you are saying. I agree though that Houston wont want him. He doesnt fit Adleman’s style. You need to be able to pass and thats another thing he can’t do.

I dunno Big. Check out his stats.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=0990

I know it’s only 3 games but those are horrible numbers. Especially his FG and FT %. Check out the rebounds, stls, and blocks. If you’re a GM would you trade for a guy like that? And take on his outrageous contract for the next 2 yrs? Especially knowing that he’s not tough, has a horrible work ethic, and will probably eat himself out of the league the way Mike Sweetney did?

Comment by MrFurious
2009-11-23 12:29:15

12-16 minutes a game. Hasn’t played in the league for a year and after 3 games your’re trolling his stats? I’m not saying you’re wrong but you need a larger sample size before drawing any conclusions.

11 million is not an “outrageous contract”…Marbury was making $18-22 mil a year…now THAT is outrageous!

$11 mil is just a standard bad NBA contract.

Comment by The_Guy
2009-11-23 12:37:45

@ Mr. Furious. We can use a larger sample size. How about this. He’s been in the league 8 yrs and is averaging 5 rebounds a game and .75 blocks for his career.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I want him outta here too, but you gotta look at this from another GMs point of view. Why on earth would you want a guy like that on your team.

And we’re not even mentioning his low basketball IQ yet. I’m sorry I can’t see an NBA GM thinking that Eddy Curry is going to solve his problems. He’s the very definition of a bust in the NBA.

Allen Iverson, a player who’s 1,000 times better than Eddy Curry and can help a team a helluva lot more than Curry can, only got 1 offer this summer…from the Memphis Grizzlies. And now that they cut him, nobody wants him.

I think in this economy GMs are gonna think twice before they gamble on a guy like Eddy Curry.

Comment by MrFurious
2009-11-23 15:46:47

Agreed. But I don’t think anyone thinks Eddy is the next Shaq anymore…My guess is that his upside is in the range of a poor man’s kwame brown. On the right team he has value.

If Curry can stay on the court and play a solid role for the next month or so it may be unlikely, but not impossible, to trade him.

If Curry doesn’t get hurt, I believe he will get traded. He is still effective in the post and a game changer. JJ is another story. He may turn into a keeper by default. As to the push, he claims he pushed Rondo “because he was there” I doubt he was being a bully.

It just looks to me like Rondo was in the way of a Curry gesticulation.

I liked Lee showing some fire as well but his out of place as he continued to go after Stephan Curry for just blocking his shot..

Now if Eddy C stood over Rondo and smacked talked him after knocking him down i’d have something else to say.. but he walked away complaining to the ref..

completely differnt circumstances.. nothing to look at with any interst.

It doesn’t matter who Curry was angry at, he drew a flagrant in the final minutes of a close game. That’s the same thing a Ron Artest or Rasheed Wallace would get chastised for. There’s no excuse.

I think it has to do with Stephen Curry being liked on this site more than rondo. Plus Lee was doing it when they were down if he was going to get mad he should have done so by playing better. Eddy Curry was doing in the heat of the moment and the game was close and it seemed Curry WANTED that call and the game. When’s last time you said Curry and wanted and didnt associate it with food. Lee was mad because they were losing to a horrible team and it had nothing to do with wanting to win but just frustration.

But you’re right there should be no double standard if you were against lee doing it you should be against Curry doing it.

Definitely understand your points…maybe valid up to date. However, after all E-City has been thru in his personal life…he seems to finally want it.

He lacks in certain skill but don’t many players on this squad? A la Du-Du pg Duhon? I think in about a month after playing some of the elite teams with the next upcoming games is gonna help him. In turn help the Knicks in a possible trade option for an expiring or with average play to get some wins this season.

Hopefully having a post presence better then Matador-Lee will help get more W’s. This team has no got to player in the post except for Al Harrington and Jordan Hill (who why I don’t know why he is not playing).

The odds are overwhelmingly against Eddy Cury ever being a good player. If it was going to happen, it woud’ve happened by now. I have a better chance of hooking up with Gisele Bundchen tonight, than Eddy Curry has of ever becoming a good player.

Rajon Rondo’s a great player but he’s a knucklehead – well-deserved.

Anyways I couldn’t care less about the flagrant foul. It was actually a positive sign in my opinion. Rondo’s a terrible FT shooter anyways.

Comment by CircleLimit4

Even though I too think Rondo is a knucklehead (Charles Barkley voice) it pains me to think that the only thing keeping him from the elite PG tier with CP3 and D-Will is his shooting. That must be endlessly frustrating for Doc Rivers, especially when you see numbers like 8-24 from the stripe.

I thought I had made a brilliant move on my fantasy team this year. I drafted Calderon and then Rondo hoping that he would neutralize Rondo’s horrible percentages. Even Calderon is only shooting 76%. They’re killing me!

I think that Curry thought Rondo was the one pulling his jersey or something. He had the wrong guy. I just don’t think Curry is the type of guy to do that, with all the negatives about him he is known to be a nice guy throughout the league.

But this is what the Knicks need, someone who will put a guy on his butt. Some fire and someone with that kind of intensity, this is a soft team. Now we have 2 legit centers why we don’t play one at all in Milicic confuses me a bit. Some size and power to match up with the bigger teams.

Block shots are overrated, as Camby said it just means the defense did not do their job most times. That’s a quote from Camby.

We played a good game and had them on the ropes we just have to learn to knock them out, figuratively of course.

Sorry he didn’t thow any punches at Sheed to show his fire. The reason he did that to Rondo was because he was mad for not getting the foul, so he on his way down he shoved Rondo in frustration.
