By Tommy Dee on Nov 24, 2009, 1:28 pm

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

“…NEW YORK — Authorities say former New York Knicks point guard Dean Meminger was rescued from a fire that destroyed a row of New York City houses and left dozens homeless.

More than 200 firefighters battled the Sunday fire in the Bronx. Authorities say Meminger suffered smoke inhalation and was in stable condition Monday at Lincoln Hospital.

Meminger was known as “Dean The Dream” during the 1970s, when he played alongside Walt Frazier and Phil Jackson and helped the Knicks win the 1973 NBA championship.

Meminger left the NBA in 1977 and has since struggled with cocaine addiction and alcoholism.

Fire officials say they haven’t determined what caused the blaze…”

Fanhouse is reporting it was a crack house and that’s how the fire might have started. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/11/24/dean-meminger-critical-after-suspected-crack-pipe-fire/

crackhouse or not …. thoughts & prayers to the guy who was “The Dream” when Hakeem was a pup in Nigeria. Dean was an important member of the ’73 championship squad. Too bad his later life took wrong turns but he still gets my best wishes …

Hey he might have been the best #7 in Knick history … Sky Walker as the runner-up … God-speed Dream ..

    very sad to hear this.

Perhaps Dolan should be doing more for players who were a part of their history instead of giving hated rivals jobs.

Indeed, sad stuff. I remember reading he was doing some coaching at small colleges but I guess his addiction caught up with him again.

This is sad. In another life I used to research urban development and I remember noting that Dean the Dream was on the board of a couple of Community Dev. Corps. My understanding is he was more than just a name on the board, he was actually doing good work. Addiction is serious sh*t. Good luck Dean.
