this is just off base and his anger towards NY sports is pretty easy to gauge.

Whether Lanzetta’s question was poorly written does not cast doubt on its accuracy. Lanzetta is right that Simmons was looking at Ewing specifically after a devastating injury and a general, age induced decline in his game. I made the point previously: If you take Ewing off the 94 team and replace him with a merely serviceable center, do the Knicks reach and almost win the NBA finals? Simmons may be right about his theory but wrong about its namesake.

His stuff is 90% tongue-in-cheek, so i always read it as such. But he does have credibility in my opinion as a knowledgeable hoops and pigskin fan. His recent breakdown of Belicheck’s 4th and 2 gaffe was on the money as well.

People just need to read his stuff and take it for what is it. He’s a great writer.

Agreed. The guy fails to prove his point and is an arrogant Sob.

That said, the theory is just another Simmons’ attempt of being cute, while acting like some kind of connoisseur. If you read him (and listen for that matter) enough, you’ll see he has superficial knowledge of sports (eg. The Chiefs were going to surprise everyone this year; the Packers were going to win the NFC..).
