I’ll make this one short and sweet because I’m tired and I have to be up in 5 hours.
The issue that I have at this point is that the “green light” that this offense is predicated should come with responsibility. And often times there is none.
I think at this point if players are going to settle for jump shots, there has to be a penalty; because clearly the young players (most noticeably Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill) will play HARD every minute.
This does not mean players shouldn’t play, it means that players used to minutes should be prepared to play less.

When is Dumtoni going to learn that Duhon isn’t “his guy”!!! There was a reason why we spent all summer looking for a PG! The guy is shooting like 20%. We need to start Duhon and Nate and give Hill more minutes. He played hard and he’s hungry. Put Duhon and Jeffries on the bench!!!!!! When will this finally get to DumToni’s head!!!! I just dont get it anymore.
we need to trade jeffries, remember? we’re not helping DW if we bury jeffries on the bench. As for Douglas, I think D’antoni would play him more if he develops some play making skills.
Duhon sucks, and he definitely isn’t “his guy”. im not sure if he’s anyone’s guy, but – as depressing as it sounds – he’s all we’ve got at the point.
Letting Jeffries embarasse himself on the court does not help DW either. The guy is not an NBA-Player, everybody around the league knows that already. You will only be able to trade him if you throw in other assets.
Tommy, it seems that slowly but surely, you are coming to the realization of what I and a lot of people have been saying since last year. It started first with Walsh, nice guy, but too old and set in his ways to adjust to today’s players and today’s game. He has done nothing but bumbled just about every important move since he’s been here. Then there’s D’Antoni. It’s obvious he is in over his head and is too stubborn to admit he doesn’t have a clue how to coach in New York and these Knicks. Like Artest said, it takes a certain player who is fearless to play here and the current Knicks look like nothing but scared rabbits. I hope Walsh has a Plan Z, cause the house is gonna crumble very soon.
Nomination for worst post of the year. You seem to suffer from a severe case of fan amnesia – or you’re simply a troll.
Please TRY to post articles or comments from respected basketball people who agree with you and your tiresome band of malcontents.

Opps! I meant start Douglas and Nate. Or Douglas and Hughes. Whatever. Just no DUHON! N no Jeffries!
They are INCREDIBLY useless.
CRAZY.
Duhon cannot play anymore than 25-30 minutes… he can’t finish and lacks the explosion Toney Douglas has. I don’t think Decepticon is motivated to play the kids at all; remember he pushed for Iverson not giving a damn about how it would affect the kids.
I don’t see why D’Antoni doesn’t play Hill or Douglas, these guys are active on D and can put the ball in the hoop. It’s ridiculous he’ll play Jared Jeffries more minutes than Hill. And I’m sorry but Douglas either is the backup SG or the backup PG. Makes no sense at all how he can’t get any burn.
DUHON CANnot play..
I think Gallinari had a great game, but he really needs to be more active without the ball and attack the basket every now and then. He had a good all-around game though – 2 steals, 2 blocks, 3 assists (and some other opportunities for his teammates).
Jordan Hill played well and he really has an electric body. I like the fact that he had to play against Bynum (possibly the best center in the western conference) in the 4th quarter. And I like the fact that he didn’t take ill-advised jumpshots. I think we all need to see them play together, they are the future.
Toney Douglas looked good as well, but Wilson Chandler was turrible tonight, hopefully he’ll bounce back tomorrow.
The Lakers are too good for us. It is what it is.
Regarding Gallo, it’s a combination of him being passive at times/freezeout by the other players. I can’t believe Ill Will’s shot selection was so bad, Chandler airballing an open fadeaway 17-footer? Jeez… Chandler should never take that many shots unless half of them are 15 feet or under.
Agreed 100%
dont know about you guys …. but i loved the fact that even BREEN is now pointing out Galo being frozen out …. nates playing for a contract .. so is ally buckets … and so is D Lee …
I feel like david is much less active around the basket throwing his body around for boards … and pick and roll ? turned in to pick and pop this year.. hey, if your a PF going into free agency i guess you need to show teams you can shoot from 15 and stay healthy …
and i will say it again … i cant believe i drank the wilson chandler kool aid you guys gave me. He is horrid. What good is his quickness and size when all he wants to do is pull up with an awkward looking, well below average 20 foot jumper
ugh
an i quote
DUHON is the best p.g danni boy has an will play him until he is traded or not on the team
he will start every game..
this was a great game from start to finish i luv the way they played
chandler just kept trying to hit 3’s he get’s an A for aeffect
duhon is simply playing his best ball he doesn’t have to put up much point
to prove anything.
i enjoyed this game tonite
go knicks..
The knicks need to start hill
trade duhon
n sign ai
Yea Mucha…Lakers are good…Knicks put up a valiant fight with the youngins playing hard…
This team will not get better with DU-DU running the point as a starter sorry…
His stat tonight were sub-par albiet he had 6 assists but come on 30 ft three pointers? Are you for real Du-Du?
No More Du-Du….
this team has a better chance at winnin with any other player at the point
start curry at that position..
One bright spot in this loss. Our youngsters forced Kobe, Artest and Bynum to play most of the 4th quarter despite a blowout third. Hill looks like he’s starting to get a handle on this system and doesn’t look nearly as lost as he did a couple of weeks ago. He took good shots and passed on the bad ones. Though he’s foul prone he made an impact with his help defense. Still a ways to go but for a rookie he did ok against a brutal Lakers front court.
Gallo stepped up his D a little bit too but it was hard to notice in the tidal wave of momentum the Lakers can bring. On offense Gallo needs more looks and Chandler needs to pass the rock and not settle for a half-assed 3.
NOW we know why donnie was exploring all these odd PG options …
him and danny boy saw the writing on the wall that duhon would be badly exposed this year
i saw White Chocolate J-Will play 5 minutes the other night .. i would take him in a heartbeat over DuDu right now
circle keep in mind … Galo’s still shooting nearly 48% from downtown, crazy lol
45% but yeah your point still stands. At this point I’d rather see Gallo try to put the game on his shoulders than Chandler.
There is no reason for Duhon to play major minutes anymore, he plays with no energy, he refuses to push the ball in he break, & he keeps jackng up 30 foot 3’s. It’s obvious that he’s quit on this team & give Douglas a shot at running the team.
Even Breen is acknowledging that Gallo is being freezed out by his teamates. Now saying that Gallo didn’t shoot that well today & he still moves like a robot, but he’s the teams most efficient scorer.
Of course saying all this next game, Duhon will play about 45 minutes, while Gallo gets like 5 shots, and Hill & TD get like 2 minutes combine.
Last night showed once again Duhon’s lack of interest in getting the ball to Galo on the move. Many times, Gallo ran ahead on the left sideline as Duhon brought it up (Yes, Duhon is so slow that Gallo is faster down the court on the break). He was wide open with a path to the basket, and Duhon never turned his head in that direction, but chuks it up or passes down right-low to Hughes. It is so apparent that Gallo is never going to get the ball on the break, on the move as he should, that no-one even bothes to defend him.
Everyone talks about how Gallo should be more mobile, but there is regularly 10-12 times a game when he is open and moving and ignored.
Wilson Chandler has no “feel” for the game, no disrespect but he’s just not a smart basketball player (maybe a smart person – but not on the basketball court). He WILL improve though – but I don’t think he has enough passion to become more than a role player.
He’s a talented young swingman, but I think I would trade him if it allows us to get rid of Eddy Curry’s contract
I agree. He can’t put the game on his shoulders like he tried to tonight. He’s much more valuable to a team with legit 1st and 2nd options than he is to us, at least right now. Even though I don’t necessarily want to see him go, if he can help unload Curry or even Jeffries, I’ll drive him to the airport.
I said this b4 about Chandler. I’m glad that someone see this as well. His b-ball I.Q is very low.
Wilson Chandler can not elevate in traffic this year. He can still get up on the move, but when he rebounds from a standstill, he can’t get the ball above the rim. He has no second hop.
How many times last night did he settle for a (missed) lay-up rather than jamming it as in the past.
In the past he was quick on his second jump and could elevate from a standstill. It was what made him “taller” in the paint.
Trevor Ariza went through similar criticism. Now look at his game. What he is doing in Houston I never thought was possible a few years ago. Give him time. I believe he will develop into a nice 2 way complementary player.
perfect breakdown EQ
And another thing!!!! Mike Dantoni gets his own show talking about offensive strategy and basketball techniques when the squad is 3-11?! R u freaking kidding me?! Y the hell does this guy have his own show?! We get to watch our Knicks get beat consitently and then Dantoni wants to teach us about basketball and his winning strategies?! WTF is going on here! Just like when we gave Steph his own show. I know everyone remembers that ish. Reward people that don’t deserve it with their own TV show. This sh** is just crazy.
Marbury’s show wasn’t given to him, it wasn’t even on MSG. I’m disgusted by The Mike _’antoni Show too. Larrry Brown (as much as I don;t like him) didn’t even get his own show and he’s accomplished a whole lot more in this league than _’antoni probably ever will. At least Brown made his teams (even the bad ones) better, except the Knicks unfortunately.
in italian: d’antoni fa schifo e io odio duhon!!!
in english: d’antoni sucks and i hate duhon!!!
Nate played more minutes than Duhon which was a good idea against a slow aging PG like Fisher. Nate should have used his speed and capitalized on this and take it to the hole more often like Aaron Brooks did in the playoffs last year. Duhon probably would have had even fewer mins. Duhon is doing an okay job of facilitating but is playing absolutely despicable basketball in every other facet. I just wish the PG concept would click in Nate or Douglas, things would be a lot easier.
It’s really starting to get annoying that the vets are getting all the burn on such a bad team, with such promising young players. I understand Douglas might not be ready to be a full time starting PG yet and might make mistakes. I understand that hill is still slightly raw, but they show glimpses of things that are far better than we could ever hope for from Duhon and Jeffries. There comes a time when it is ok to just take the gamble and give them big responsibilities and see if they can handle it… Who knows, maybe one or both of them can and they become great players. No reason not to give it a try. Duhon is not the PG of the future and we are rebuilding so why are we waistinng all this time on him if we’re not even able to win games. It will most definitely end soon.
I don’t believe D’Antoni is blind, but just slower to move than the fans would like (its not exciting watching duhon). I really believe it is only a matter of time before there is a drastic change in the starting lineup and the rotation in general. Seeing the momentum our young guys were able to create in the 4th proved that these vets are a lost cause as a group and it is time to bring in the young guys, give toney the ball and see if he can figure it out. I’l take the mistakes and dumb turnovers; just give them the season to work it out.
We do have to trade JJ and i understand that, but Duhon must go.
Guys guys guys…. you’ve got to remember that ill will is playing out of position, he’s not a spot up 2 guard with a larry bird stroke from deep that dantoni wants us to believe, he’s freakishly athletic 3 maybe 4 in the right situation, if he could jus gain some more bball I.Q be a better passer, and practice his handles he would be great, cuz he’s good on D ( he had about 2-3 blocks or deflections tonight, 1 on pau), think of this defensively hughes @ 2, ill will @3, and and the athletic J.Hill @4 maybe 5 in some cases, thats a pretty good defense, but we would still need a play maker point who can get them the ball and who plays a bit of D. we have douglas but i see him as a hybrid backup, or if he gains a better bball I.Q a charlie ward type.
and how about we play darko, he’s he can score wit both hands, and he can block a shot or too or even throw a penetrator to the ground!!! some thing please! GO KNICKS
I don’t think Chandler is playing out of position right now, D’Antoni generally plays Hughes and Duhon or Nate and Douglas.
He’s just not playing well – but I think that’ll change one day or another.
He’s trade-bait though IMO.
It’s not so much Chandler’s smarts as a ball player, but his lack of confidence. He hardly use his athleticism to blow by bigger defenders off the dribble and ever so often does he use his frame to minipulate players half his size in the post. Moreover, it seems as though he uses his three point shot to make up for his shortcomings in the paint. How many layups does he attempt a game…those that don’t result in putbacks or cuts to the basket?
The big question regarding Chandler’s future: When is he going take advantage of the minutes and opportunity D’Antoni is giving him and become this hungry veteran, dominating the opposition on a night to night basis? I feel it’s his confidence that impedes his game more so than his basketball I.Q.
Supposedly, Chandler has been playing at the three the last several games. Hughes has been the two, and Gallo has been playing the four slot. There just isn’t that much difference in the offense between 2,3, and 4. They all spot up on the arc. Only the five hgh posts. Again, despite commentary, there is no cutting through the paint in this offense as it defeats the P and R and Pitch (that never happens).
On defense, the switching often ends up with Chandler on a taller player because he is not tall and they know that he can’t jump this year
its ok, lets trade eddy curry for t-mac like tommy dee said, that sounds reasonable and intelligent
sounds good, yeah. except if you are the houston rockets.
How come DLee only 20 minutes and Jefferies 19?
Let’s look at our roster:
Guards:
Duhon- Limited and is being asked to do more than he is capable of doing. Nice backup for a real starting quality player. No more…..he has a future here as a backup.
Nate: Crazy kid with skills and ability but he will never get his head on right. Bottom line is there is no place in the NBA for shooting guards 5′9″ tall. He refuses to play right and learn to be a PG. No future here.
Hughes: Has skills and knows the game, can’t shoot and that’s what you need in a SG as in shooting guard. No future here.
Douglas: This guy has the goods but he must learn how to play the one or he will never get real playing time on any team. He has his head on right and is mature so maybe he makes himself into a PG.
Center:
Curry- Same old same old, he has no lift, cannot rebound and has No BBall IQ at all. He’s a big body with great athletic ability but he does not love the game and it shows. Should have went to college and learned the game and some personal discipline. We are stuck with him unless someone does us a favor.
Milicic- I thought he played OK when he was playing but why isn’t he playing? Especially against the Lakers with their height…..is he hurt? I have no idea if he fits D’antoni’s style since he never plays.
David Lee is not a center.
PF:
DLee is a good player and getting better. He hustles and runs the floor and plays guys much bigger than himself every game. He gets the better of them many times. Great rebounder and he is starting to hit that jump shot. No he’s not great but he will end up on a winning team helping them toward a championship some day, it won’t be the Knicks. Paired with a good 7 footer and he will really help a team in every way except defensively were he is marginal. A team that can use him right now are the Spurs, he would fit them well.
Jordan Hill: This is a player who has unlimited upside but is a tweener, not a center he’s a bigger PF. He has the athleticism to play a dominate game, if he puts it all together he will be worth the place he was drafted.
Al Harrington- Kind of small for a PF, he plays more like a SF. Not dominating although in his mind he is. He’s a ball hog and wants to be the man, but he’s just not that good. He’ll always be a good player on a bad team because he lacks focus on his fundamentals. No future here.
Gallo- He’s PF, he is not athletic at all, very stiff, I wonder if his back is acting up. I think that back injury will limit him and he will never be what he might have been. He needs to really work on his body, get more flexible, stronger and fit. He’s very awkward and not fluid enough. Good shooter but is very raw which surprises me the way he was talked up before the draft, we should have drafted Lopez.
SF:
Chandler- Very athletic with a nice shot and good instincts. But he has a low BBall IQ. He looks lost and unsure of himself most of the time. He has no identity as a player and does not know who he is, he’s not a 3 Pt shooter he’s a slasher who should attack the basket. It might take him a few more years to put it all together like Ariza did. Trade bait if we can get rid of JJ or Curry.
Jefferies- Knows the game but he’s a dork. Very gangly and un-athletic. Sloppy player with limited skills. Every time he makes a good play it’s followed up with 3-4 bad ones. He’s a liability. His only use is as a specialist at the back of a rotation to play defense and disrupt the other star player. No future here we really need to trade him, please someone take him.
Jeffries was given the Kobe assignment so that’s why he got minutes. He actually did alright guarding Kobe, but in truth you can be on Kobe like a magnet and he’ll still J in your face. Kobe scored 34 instead of 62.
Jeffries ate more of Harrington’s minutes than Lee’s. Lee’s extra 10-15 minutes were more eaten up by Hill/Curry.
I love how Chris Duhon takes shots from almost half court as if it’s his regular normal 3-pointer. Remind you of someone? Howard Eisley ladies and germs. hahah
chris duNon has to go………. this guy CAN NOT FINISH AROUND THE BASKET @ ALL
and i dont understand how duNon can just pull up from 35 feet away completly out of rythm with 20 seconds on the shot clock….. like he’s some great shooter and mike d’antoni NOT RIP HIM APART…. DuNon gets his only assists on a few pick and roll plays with d lee but in order for the pick and roll to be truly effective the point guard needs to be some type of threat to score….. chandler and gallo could be a lot better with a point guard who knew how to break down a defense and knew where to get them the ball chandler SHOULD NOT be allowed to be allowed to create his own shot…. he should get the ball going to to the basket.. because when he gets the ball and has to create he…. does that same hesitation dribble the spin and weak fadeaway or the head fake and uncontrolled drive if the defender goes for the fake or not
No he can’t finish, but what’s worse is that he think that he will score over 7 footers, regardless. How many times was he blocked? What is going on in his head?
Most of them won’t be here next year. Let’s keep our fate on Walsh, better days will come. Mike D’Antoni is not doing great, but he’s doing what’s possible to increase the value of Nate and Jeffries.
and how excatctly is he doing that?
i understand douglas is not ready to be a point guard yet… he can score but isnt the best passer… but nate can pass when he wants to… or why not let larry hughes play the point he’s capable
i am sorry for my previous post, i’m not a hater, just disappointed and tired to stay up all night and watch miserable play from the team. So please duhon forgive me and don’t kill yourself!! Well you could just brake an arm or a leg…..for the sake of the team!! Bye
I only saw the first half, but:
- Eddy Curry is a horrible basketball player. Just because he can score a little does not make up for the fact that he can’t: pass out of the post, rebound/box out, defend on the ball, rotate, block shots, keep his head, etc. I saw one defensive stop for the Knicks that ended in a Lamar Odom follow-up dunk because Curry could not be bothered to even pretend to box out. Milicic is so much better.
- Chris Duhon is really bad. Only one TO in the box score but numerous bad idea layup attempts that were easy blocks for LA and bad idea jumpers from too far out. Those should count as turnovers. We should make Hughes/Douglas the PGs and that’s that.
- Why wasn’t Gallo guarding Pau? Poor Chandler.
- Why does David Lee spend his summer working on his jumper and not a low post game? Don’t we have enough jumpshooters?
- I like Harrington. At least he wants it and has no fear.
in the first half bynum, gasol and odom were flat out raping david lee and eddy curry. if only we had a tall defensive minded center. oh wait…..
D.Milicic DNP – Coach’s Decision
there you go.
d’antoni is a joke.
and i know it was garbage time because the game was already over by then, but toney douglas and jordan hill are the ONLY knicks players with a positive +/- rating. they play hard and deticated everytime they get on the court. but be sure that none of them will see more than 10 minutes in the follow up game.
again: d’antoni is a joke and needs to go.
What also impressed me about TD and Hill is that they stuck to the “game plan,” unlike many rookies would have done. They played with discipline when many rookies and bench vets would have just chucked from all over with no defense in mind. Had that been done, the Lakers could have had 135 points in a run and shoot, no defense garbage time.
TD and Hill played like the game still mattered.
I still say we should have gotten Avery Johnson or even mark jackson, they jus seem like they could have been better NY coaches, whe chant DEE-FENSE in the garden not OF-FENSE! <—- that never wins championships any way!
As much blame as Dantoni deserves for doing a terrible coaching job, the Knicks had no chance at that game. Lakers are better 1-5 substantially at every position. The Dantoni green light is a joke at this point. Chandler is just retarded, at one point Breen had to say that he should realize the Lakers were leaving him open for a reason. Hes really terrible at this point. Curry got dominated by Bynum, but I will give him another month or so to really recover from his time off so he can embarrass himself even further because he just sucks. How is Duhon still starting? Not only should he not be starting, he probably shouldn’t even be in the rotation. He has no future here, and does not need to be “showcased” like JJ and Eddy. Of course, its not really showcasing, more like putting a spotlight on how bad both those players actually are and how someone would have to be retarded to trade for either one of them.
I’m all for showcasing Curry and Jeffries but why are we playing these other veterans that have no chance of being on the team next year and beyond? I know Jordan Hill is raw but the kid can only get better if he gets playing time. Same for Toney Douglas. As for Milicic he was supposed to get a shot at proving people wrong here about him but even he can’t get playing time. I’d even like to see Carl Landry out there. I think these guys would play more of a team game than the veterans that D’Antoni is going with. I’m not blaming D’Antoni for all the losing but he’s partly to blame here. I’m also blaming the players because they clearly are playing for their own agenda’s. Watching Knick games are not fun this year. I can’t take watching Jared Jeffries trying to take a jump shot, Duhon’s inability to score in the paint, Nate’s immaturity/erratic play, Hughes inconsistancies, Eddy Curry’s lack of desire, Al Harrington ball hogging…..I can’t wait for these guys to walk away in 2010. Good riddance.
if you don’t have the stars, it’s all about teamplay. look at the rockets – role players that understand their purpose and work their ass off every night. guys like harrington or robinson will never amount to anything because they thinks they are lebron jordan. chandler is dangerously close to adapting these kinds of habbits. someone (a coach maybe!) needs to tell him to get his act together quickly.
I agree, we have a bunch of role players that think they are stars. Al Harrington is a ball hog. And the young guys on the team are getting a bad influence from these guys.
