Knicks/Nuggets- View from the Other Side

By Tommy Dee on Nov 27, 2009, 12:58 pm

My boy Nick from nuggdoctor.com has this to say about tonight’s game in Mile High:

“…The Knicks like to attempt a lot of three’s. In fact, New York has hoisted more three-pointers (433) than any other team in the NBA so far this season while averaging nearly 29 attempts per game. However, their infatuation with the long ball hasn’t translated into great overall scoring as the Knicks barely shoot 30% from range and overall are one of the lowest field goal shooting teams in the league. With that picture painted, it should also come as no surprise that New York doesn’t get to the free-throw line very often. The Knicks shoot an average of 21 free-throws per game, but to their credit do shoot a relatively decent 79% from the line…

…The Knicks are a porous bunch defensively and are allowing their opponent nearly 108 points per game while Denver comes into tonight averaging 115 points per game in games at Pepsi Center. This leaves me no choice but to believe tonight’s game might be a “Black Friday” special in the box score with about three Nuggets in the 20+ range as Denver routs the Knicks…”

I like reading other blogs because I’m always curious to see if people are actually watching the Knicks. This is stat heavy, but for the most part accurate.

I just feel like every team I root for have been losing, and yes I know the number of combined losses over the past, say, 8 weeks, but after last night’s horrendous Giants effort, Denver has the chance to step on the throats of New York again with little resistance.

And that really bothers me.

I have this eerie feeling that Nate will be our starting PG tonight. What bothers me is that if he makes one mistake or gets a couple fouls the coach will take him right out in favor of duhon. The coach thinks he needs a natural PG, but what he doesn’t realize is that it is more important he has talented players on the floor, and that he might need to settle for guys filling roles they aren’t accustomed to if it’s all we have.

It bothers me also how we are doormats to other teams AGAIN like last year, guys have career games versus our sorry defense. I thought we showed promise initially after the four game rest, now we are back to the same ole same ole. Duhon gets worst every game and Mike just keeps him out there, lets see more Darko and practice plays to get him the ball or SOMETHING please.

I think Wilson is still hurt but Im not really a fan anymore of him, he hasnt progressed IMHO, he still drive with reckless abandon to the hoop (not enough either) but I mean when he drives, he just bowls guys over and he rarely looks to dish an assist when someone committs to him, instead he charges ALL THE TIME.

I guess I’ll just watch my favorite player Melo tonight and wish he could be a Knick someday via trade but I dont see it.

    Also Tommy
Did we drop the ball or what, this Thorton kid for Sacto what # was he drafted and of course we know the ball was dropped on Brandon Jennings and Ty Lawson. The Thorton guy looked better than J Hill, I liked his defense and his confidence. J Hill looks like a scared rabbit out there.

DW’s due dillegence is sorta in question and I know I’m talking hindsight but wow Brandon or Ty at 8 and Marcus Thorton at 29. Shoulda coulda been our move and then again I dont know if Jennings has success in DAntoni’s system with DAntoni’s stubborn ways. DAntoni is horrible with coaching adjustments as evidence wiht our current team which clearly cant run his system, have those guys not shoot so many 3′s, its not like they’re good shooters jacking.

    Dear New York Knicks,

I want to begin by first and foremost saying that i love you. You know, a long time ago we made a commitment to love and cherish one another, and I think I have held up my end of the bargain.

But I’ve gotta tell you, if we keep going down this path, things are only going to get worse. I don’t quite …understand what I’m doing wrong. I support you. I watch all of your games (no matter how many times ur down by 20 after the 1st quarter). I defend you when others talk bad about you. I respect your commitment to 2010. I didn’t even give you slack for picking a forward in the draft when what we really needed was a point guard. ::ahembrandonjenningsahem::.

Things are just adding up and I don’t like where this relationship is at. I know were young, and dumb, but just show me a little heart once in a while. Maybe learn to close out a game against the Celtics instead of prematurely blowing your load, coming off a pick 23 feet away from the basket for the entire Garden to see.

Do something. Kick your teammates in the balls. Kick yourself in the balls. Kick Mike D’antoni in the balls. But stop kicking me in the balls, because I am not the problem here. You are.

    Sincerely,
    Ghanem

P.S. The run and gun offense was sexy at first, but it’s getting old. It’s the equivalent of the wild-cat in football. Its a gimmick. Man up. Play some defense. Stop playing like a bunch of euro-weenies.

Coming into the season, Donnie said they had team chemistry, so they didnt need to make a trade. Bullshit.

We need size. We need a point guard.

David Lee is incapable of defending bigger men.
Chris Duhon, Nate Robinson, and Toney Douglas are incapable of running the point.

LMAO @ euro-weenies but that is what I’ve been complaining about Mike D inability to change up or tweak his offense no matter how dismal we play.

I’d like to think he has some conventional NBA plays in his BIG playbook, you adjust according to your talent AND BRING IN A D-COORDINATOR…swallow your pride please Mike

    Start
    Nate or TD
    Gallo
    All
    Lee
    Curry/Millic/Hill

I still think though you need a sparkplug that can come in scoring so Al might need to come off the bench.

i’ve said it a million times but drafting is the easiest second guess for a fan…

remember, a 1st round talent who ends up with an opportunity right away with a good team will produce most of the time.

i’d venture to guess that jordan hill on say, the mavericks or nuggets, would be turning some heads on pick and roll plays at the rim.

he’s a freakish athlete at 6’11 who gets exposed now bc the team is coming apart at the seems.

obviously, he needs to see more minutes.

Since you see these guys9practice) more than any of us, I’ll trust your judgement. Its just seems other rookies are adjusting better than ours but I know Mike handcuffs our rookie’s playing time. Just when I thought TD was ready to come out Mike sits him, go figure right.

When Hill is in the game I rarely see the pick and roll used?

ran it against the lakers and hill took of from 10 feet away and banged it HARD.

like i said, rookies who have opportunity WITH talent are sure to have that necessary confidence to succeed.

        that’s a great start.

what jennings is doing, although they are 0-2 with redd, is that much MORE impressive because he is making NBA players better right away.

It’s sad to see D’A giving Duhon, Harrington and Jeffries PT just because they are vets. Hill, Chandler, Douglas and Gallo need more PT, but D’A probably won’t give it to them till March because he does not want to look like he is writing this year off right away.

Yea I noticed since Redd’s return the losses, a change in chemistry with his return I believe.

Tommy what is your take on Darko, does he need the playing time?

what better opportunity than being on a team that lacks interior defense and size?

Contracts in the way…my guess is that he starts next year, or at gets at least 25 minutes per every night.

    Magik

I agree we need size in all areas at guard I’d like our STARTING guards to be 6’5 PG, 6’7 SG. Now if we were able to get CP3 or Deron Williams I could deal with their slight of height lol. Our C and PF should be 7’0 and 6’10 to 6’11. I know I know wishful thinking but you start Eddie or Darko and JHill they be close to not being looked down by other team’s BIGs

Curry and Darko stink, that’s why they barely play. Darko seems to have no chance of improving enough to be in the rotation. And Curry’s leg injuries seems to never end and his court savvy is terrible. Lost careers for both of ‘em.

Those are astute observations Nick, golly gee. The Knix shoot tons of 3′s because they have no inside players, no big bodies to set picks and little talent for driving to the hoop, and their playmaker Duhon is good for one penetration per game max. Yes, this team stinks no matter what they try. Next year……

100% right…there is NO SCHEME that this team can win with…but what bothers me the most is that D’Antoni uses the worst possible scheme you can draw up…
Playin LEE at C…when your startin C is 6’9 & plays sorry D you will Be DOMINATED EVERY GAME!!!!!!

Sticks w/ DUHON who has more than proved he can’t start @ PG in a YMCA league!!!!

Doesn’t develop the YOUTH and lets them rought on the bench…

FINALLY has size (Curry, Darko, Hill) and gives them no PT…

the NYK are a terrible team and i’ve come to terms w/ that BUT they don’t have to be the worst team…they have some tools but D’Antoni wants to play politics like if the team morale & locker room isn’t already in shambles…
Someone on another post suggested that D’A isn’t playin the YOUTH cuz he doesn’t wanna make it seem like he’s throwin in the towel…I think by playin these sorry NO HEART emarassments (VETS) he’s doin just that…
Everytime i think this i think to myself…
” C’mon MOE, if i can see it, and all these bloggers can see it, and THE REST OF THE COUNRTY CAN SEE IT!!!!!!! then D’A & DW can’t be that stupid” but D’A's credibility is eroding faster & faster.

It’s like catchin your wife bangin the mailman…and you keep her
Bangin the neighbor…and you keep her
Bangin your best friend…you keep her…
You’re either the STUPIDEST & SOFTEST guy in town OR………..

You’re recordin every infedility…you’re wife is crazy loaded & you have no Pre-Nup…

The moral of the story is D’Antoni & DW are either the stupidest guys in the league OR they got somethin brewin that numbs w/e pain this team is causing…

I love the Knicks like a family member…but even family can bring you much shame, and quite frankly, right now i’m ashamed to say that the Knicks are my favorite team
