NEW YORK(AP) Rashard Lewis scored 13 of his season-high 26 points in the third quarter, and the Orlando Magic beat the New York Knicks 114-102 on Sunday night for their sixth straight road victory.

Dwight Howard had 24 points and 16 rebounds for the Eastern Conference leaders, who capped a perfect three-game trip over the holiday weekend that started with an impressive win at division rival Atlanta on Thanksgiving. Orlando improved to 50-14 in November the last three years, best in the NBA.

Reserve Nate Robinson scored 24 points for the Knicks, who lost their fifth straight in the opener of a difficult stretch of four games in six nights against teams playing .700 ball. They host Phoenix on Tuesday, visit the Magic on Wednesday and travel to Atlanta on Friday.

Orlando needed a big second-half rally to pull out a 100-98 victory at Milwaukee on Saturday night, but seized control of this one midway through the third quarter.

Lewis’ 3-pointer tied it at 57 early in the period, kicking off a 14-4 run during which he added another 3 as Orlando opened a 68-61 lead. He followed Danilo Gallinari‘s free throw with another 3-pointer, and the Magic led by as much as 11 in the period before settling for an 82-73 advantage after Mickael Pietrus’ basket at the buzzer. more.

On a separate note, sources close to the Nets told me that Rod Thorn was really torn about ultimately letting Lawrence Frank go. Remember, TKB was the first to report that it was Thorn’s faith and respect in the now-former Nets coach, which was the reason he brought him back this season.

As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, I’ve also heard Kiki Vandeweghe is the likely short term predecessor while the ownership situation is figured out. People are telling me that, should Mikhail Prokhorov take over, he will have a heavy hand in selecting the coach, and he will most certainly look to bring in a European.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

the knicks can only play 1 half

an when they can’t even do that they get blown out bigtime..

2010 kool aid here i come for another cup.

  • ds2488

Great game. The Knicks really showed up for this one and put in a great effort and just lost to a superior team. Having said that (Curb your Enthusiasm anyone?) Dantoni’s decision to play Jared Jeffries instead of Gallinari down the stretch may be one of the single dumbest rotational decisions I have ever seen. IT was absolutely mindboggling. It really is crazy how bad Jeffries is. He is not just bad, but probably the worst rotation player in the league. He came into the game, made a terrible inbound pass, got dominated by rashard lewis, and as per usual continues to be absolutely worthless in all aspects of the game. Also Hughes is horrible, and several times I noticed he looked lost on offense, and that one shot that got Dantoni hot was great. What did Dantoni do? He punched the air and screamed to no one, and then didn’t even look at Hughes or take him out. Just pathetic, yell at the guy and then take him out. Really crazy that Jeffries was playing, I really can’t get over that.

  • dino2008

lol, remember his new “shot” he was working on in the pre-season! ha

  • LJohnson2k8

Well as bad as Jeffries is, Gallo right now would be just as bad. He can’t play D and hasn’t showed the aggressiveness or ability to blow by the opposing player so what would be the purpose of leaving him in to be embrrassed or worse hurt. Knicks lost to the Kings big time so right now it don’t matter the team. They just don’t have that all world player. Damn near every team has one but us.

  • dogmanx23

Ill say it again.. You can’t win giving the team so many damn mismatches.

I looked this up today and the knicks start the smallest center in the league D.Lee.

Let Darko start at center please its impossible for D.Lee to play center in this league.

    Darko
    Lee
    Gallo
    Chandler
    Duhon

    Eddy
    Harrington
    Jeffries
    Hughes
    Nate

Send Hill and Douglas to the D-League because they are wasting just sitting on the bench. We needed a PG in the draft and we drafted a PF and a SG.

Dumbtoni is looking like a lost coach out there.

  • donnie walsh

Jeffries is atrocious. I know a lot of you guys like to say a competitor might want him but good lord why? Why would they want to pay him 6 million dollars next year if they could just spend it on someone actually good.

  • HaS

Thank you LJohnson, I thought I was only one seeing that here. Maybe me and you both need glasses or everyone else here is visually impaired. Gallinari is very passive, sometimes he catches the ball and never even looks at the shot clock let alone the basket. He should launch a few contested shots (I know he wants to play the “right way”, but everyone else shoots contested threes why not the best long range shooter on the team?) Then when they get desperate and gamble maybe he can draw a few fouls. I guess that will come once he learns from a savvy veteran.

I didn’t expect a win, but they played decently and were able to at least make it interesting beyond the 1stt quarter, so that’s a plus. I really would like to see Douglas and Hill get more minutes at least in the 1st half. I really hope its not a reflection of what they’ve shown in practice, they both seem like solid role players to me and that’s not a terrible thing. I just hope the Knicks can get lucky and get at least a 1A star/starter, Gallinari looks like a solid 3rd option, Douglas a nice 6th man/backup combo guard and Hill well he just looks like a tall cheerleader.

Just venting fellas, I don’t have the strength to argue with u kool-aid drinkers tonight. Go Knicks!

  • ds2488

haha dino, that crap happens every year with him in the preseason and he always sucks as usual in the regular season. L Johnson, there is no way that Jeffries and Gallo are even in the same league. I actually think Gallo did a much better job on Lewis when he was guarding him, and whatever you think of him he shoots the lights out and helps spread the floor just by standing on the perimeter. jeffries leaves you basically 4 on 5 on offenses, and his man defense is also terrible. He got absolutely dominated by Lewis in the 8 or so minutes he was in. Gallo had 2 blocks and also was what 4 of 5 from 3 or something like that. Just no comparison LJ, JJ is on a completely differentl level of crapiness and suckness than anyone else in the league.

  • HaS

maybe with mobleyls contract to sweeten the deal? Maybe that ship has sailed? I think with a coach who actually has a defensive philosophy to plug him into, and not one who scribbled one down in the limo on the way to the training camp this year, he could be effective. He sacrifices his body and gives a valiant effort on defense whether he’s guarding a point guard or a PF/C.

He’s not the best, but off the bench for a contender I think he would 100x better. Let’s hope we get that opportunity.

  • CircleLimit4

Few centers are going to stop Howard for 25+ mins, Darko is not among them. Dwight is going to get his 20/14 anyway so at least have a guy in there that can run the floor and give Howard a run for his money on the offensive end.

In anycase, the best way to defend Dwight is to deny him the ball. The Lakers showed that last year.

  • ds2488

Has, I have no idea what your point really is, because if your saying Jeffries is as good as Gallinari I have no response. As far as his unagressiveness goes, that doesn’t make him a bad player. He still helps the team out just by standing there because people can’t leave him alone. IF saying that Gallinari is much much better than Jeffries makes me a kool aid drinker, I really don’t have any response because its not worth arguing with somebody whos mind is already set on whether he will be a decent player or not, since Jeffries surely is not. I will gladly drink my kool aid if it makes me the only reasonable person in this argument, because judging a 21 year old on game certainly is not.

  • CircleLimit4

Is anyone watching the Nets/Lakers on YES? Marv Albert and whoever is doing color commentating (Mike Fratello?) had a hilariously awkward bickerfest coming out of half time.

  • Bob go knicks

maybe AL HARRINGTON can teach GALLO how not to pass the ball

  • Big Daddy

Exactly someone who gets it. That’s why Isiah brought him here to do just that but was forced to play him more minutes because the other players were either hurt or not much better.

He’s a back of the rotation guy who will sacrifice his body. He’s good for very short stretches to disrupt the other teams star player.

He is not supposed to get 15-20 minutes a game and he cannot play anymore than 5 minutes. If he’s in the game more than 5 minutes at a time he becomes a liability. He has NO basketball skills but he’s knows what to do, his body just cannot do it. He’s a dork!!!!!!

So for a team that is making a run at the championship he would be a good fit. He won’t be asked to do more than he is capable of doing, that is something he has been asked to do since he got here and he cannot come through for us. He just does not have the talent. The game is too fast for him. He’s very awkward and uncoordinated.

But please someone tell why he’s getting playing time instead of Hill who need to learn the game. Why is everybody elses #1 pick playing but ours. What really gets me is the New York Football Giants have the same issues with their coach. Is there something in the water????????????

  • Bob go knicks

all ships have sailed! someone should go check Donnie Walshs pulse and see if he still has a heartbeat.doesnt seem like hell make any moves this year.we havent had a PG worth playin for 2 seasons and he hasnt done anything to remedy that

  • DeBusscherescorner

With :54 to go in the game, D’ Antoni subs in a player….remember, 54 seconds! Is that player a Milicic? Landry? Hill? Douglas? A player who should be in to kill those seconds? no. The person is jefferies. Really? With :54 seconds, you sub in a player who didn’t play that well? You mean you can’t even put in one of the bench player to kill :54 seconds?

The Knicks are 2:00 away from being blowned out by twenty in Sacramento. Who comes in the game?Duhon. Wow. I don’t mind D’Antoni saying he wants to give Duhon a chance, but when you don’t sub in your even when a blowout is progress is unbelieveble. You’re wondering what’s going through the guy’s head. This has happened on a numerous occasions. And when they asked him how feels when Hill and Douglas played well, he tries to down play the situation and talks about how much they need improving, like they’re much worse off than the other players on the team. I’m wondering if he has out for these two. Because the lack of communication with Douglas and hill on the bench is odd. I mean here is a guy in Douglas who could provide you some defense stability and bridge the gap between Duhon and Nate, and you don’t play him? I’m not understanding. You have an opportunity to make it Douglas and Hughes starting at the guards and see how pans out, having Duhon to come off the bench and possibly play harder, grabbing his spot back in the starting lineup and you don’t do it? My only guess is that he is trying showcase those players for possible for possible trades, but I don’t know why you don’t mix in guys like Milicic and play the rookies. Just don’t get it.

  • Chris Alvino

    Very good point…

  • ds2488

Yeah it just makes no sense. If your team is going to suck anyway, why wouldn’t you play people who will actually be there next year. Its just insane that on a team this bad, the 2 rookies aren’t playing. There is a real problem with that, especially when the guys playing instead of them are terrible anyway and have no future here. Its really just insanity.

  • Peso

    I am with you DeBusscherescorner….

Not sure why Coach is in this 8 man rotation…9 would be if Curry was playing so while Curry is out play Jordan Hill on Howard for a few minutes….

Like Darko said today…practice is over-rated when it comes to playing time. Coach has his pets on the team and its visible. Just hope they are showcasing these Zombies for a trade later this month….

    No more Du-Du plz!

  • Heri

Jeffries needs no help, he has no expiring contract. The team needs help to win, bench Jeffries.

  • akdrum

They are showcasing the players so they can get rid of them one by one.Hopefully someby the upcoming deadline- Pull the trigger PLEASE!
I know its hard to watch. I do feel bad for MDA. Everyone of them suck. Its torture for a coach with a team like that. Trying to find a 1000 ways to reach these overpaid bench players. Its amazing that Larry Hughes makes 13 mil. Chris duhon 6Mil. Mind boggiling. Its only going to get worse- so take it easy folks. And don’t get so caught up in 2010 either. Things might go well with that.
If they keep Lee i’ll freak- he sucks so bad. No defense! none-zilch..

  • italian stallion

If we aren’t going to play Douglas and Hill, why are we playing Chandler?

Seriously, I am a very patient guy and understand he’s not 100% because of the ankle surgery, but he’s terrible. He’s not as bad a Jeffries, but he’s bad. He’s a terrible shooter, doesn’t draw fouls, is not an especially good rebounder, is not a play maker, makes bad decisions, and is mediocre defensively. Need I continue? He’s below average at everything.

If we aren’t going with a full out youth movement yet, then the starting lineup should be Lee, Harrington, Gallo, Hughes, and Duhon with Nate being the only steady reserve player. Everyone else should be battling for reserve minutes, including Chandler and Hill for backup minutes at PF. To be honest, I can’t see how Hill could be worse. It’s virtually impossible. Hill will probably make a few extra bad rookie decisions and personal fouls, but he’s going to out rebound Chandler, block more shots, be a more efficient scorer, and a better defensive presence in the middle.

It’s time to play Hill over Chandler and accept the fact that Chandler was not very good last year and has not progressed this year like many of us hoped. If he gets back to 100% and improves, we could always find more time for him, but right now he stinks.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

al is the guy for that

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

that will never happen aslong as danni boy is the coach.

i bet lebron will be center if he comes here

  • LJohnson2k8

Gallo is an excellent 3pt shooter, if I am correct the best in the nba. He should play and qwin the 3pt contest in the all star game this year. You just can’t leave him open and because teams know this they have someone in his face at all times and he has yet to show he can do anything but stay up top looking for the open 3. He is better than jj by far but defensively say what u want Gallo ain’t takin a charge trust that. So he either moves out the way or backs off the defender. Its who he is right now and I am sorry this oh he is only 21 thing don’t fly with me. What are these other young rookies in the nba are doing this year compared to Gallo is light years ahead. First it was the back something they may never go away or his age why as Knick fans we have excuses for our players? And on Al buckets he will shoot if he has the whole team on him. Its who he is, he is our fearless leader lol

  • JLS125

In brief, we’d be our own worst enemies if we played the youngsters right now.

I’m figuring that if MD were to play Hill and Douglas minutes they would probably look better than JJ and whomever else we can’t stand to see playing in front of them. This would then make any trades for JJ or Curry that much harder to consummate because most GMs will want Douglas or Hill over JJ and Curry. Or even worse, no GM would consider trading for JJ and Curry knowing that they can’t beat out 2 rookies.

Unfortunately, this is a sad case of economics…

  • Mucha

Gallinari played well defensively in my opinion, even though he gave Rashard Lewis enough space to hit a couple of 3′s in his face. Ryan Anderson was 4-11.

He blocked two shots and he did try to help. He even had to guard Reddick and Carter here and there because Duhon and Hughes weren’t focused enough (even Hughes’ defense didn’t look good).

Obviously Gallo is not Ron Artest and his D needs to improve but at least he TRIES to play defense.

He has to more active on the offensive end – I agree with that.

  • DatNewYorker

We look better. The offense has some chemistry now. We are just going to have to out score teams to win. As long as DAntoni insist on not having a true center on the floor our defense will be weak. Looks like nate has his shot back and Duhon has finally looked like a ball player for the first time this year. Too bad it took him 17 games.

  • HaS

I never compared Gallinari to Jeffries. Thank you.

  • trenttucker

Nate and Duhon’s games were deceptive. They both make countless turnovers and bad decisions that don’t show up on the stat sheet. That play by Nate to end one of the quarters was a 5-point swing and basically started the downfall. Neither of them has a future here (at least, I hope not), so why not just play Douglas? The only good thing I can say about Duhon is that he ran the pick and roll with Lee pretty well last night, at least in the first half.

Larry Hughes does everything well, except finish open 8-foot jumpers and runners. What is up with that? Does he get scared in the paint? It’s uncanny how many he misses.

I am really trying to find it, but it’s hard to see what D’antoni is doing well. He seemed to have the pick and roll working, then they went away from it. The second half was all iso’s for Nate and Harrington. That’s not coaching. Why does Gallo not get one screen set for him to run around? Other than the pick and rolls, shouldn’t this team be running tons of set plays for Gallo and Chandler?

  • BobbyFromBK

Tomorrow night, I want you all to watch carefully and see a true pure point guard who has a high IQ, can break down the defense, can hit the right man at the right spot and can score when he has too. Oh, one more thing, he can coach too–since it’s now obvious he was the real coach, not D’Antoni.

  • Knicks4life

“Gallinari played well defensively in my opinion”.

Guess it depends on what your defensive standards are.

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

Wow, i’ve heard that take before…

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

I don’t understand this at all…gallo has difficulty guarding the drive and backs off which leads to open Js. But he blocks shots and rebounds. other rookies (like who?) seem to have better help defenders.

  • Mal

I agree I am so disappointed in Chandler’s basketball IQ

  • LJohnson2k8

Tommy Gallo was picked in a draft that had Brook Lopez, Westbrook, D. Rose, Speights, Beasley and Gordon. You tell me if he is playing better this year than any of those players and defensively is he better than any of these players in his draft.

  • HaS

What kind of turnovers don’t show up on the stat sheet?

    Just curious.

  • trenttucker

Not technically turnovers, but bad decisions. Nate puts up terrible shots when other people are open, and Duhon is often too hesitant and doesn’t make the right pass. Nate is really just a cancer. I know that he looks good, but the offense goes completely dead whenever the ball is in his hands. You can see the other players give up. As for Duhon, he just is a very limited point guard. He may be the one starter in the league who can’t beat anyone off the dribble. Is there such a thing as a Duhon crossover?

  • DeBusscherescorner

agree, LJ. But one thing I have to say about Gallo, if he gains even more confidence in his dribble and post play, he will be unstoppable player post summer of 2010. As a New York sports fans, I’m tired of giving in players because their too young or they’re not showing an immediate impact. Every time we lose someone, they go elsewhere and become good or championship caliber players—and that’s happens all the time to New York teams. Chandler, I’m not giving up on him either…I know what he can provide and feel when he gets the true leadership of maybe a 2010 FA or solid, playoff proven bench players to take the pressure off and let him know of his shot selection, that when you’ll see a different player. He doesn’t have that. There’s not one player or veteran, pulling him to the side saying, look you are better than you are displaying..take the ball to the hole. Imagine CP3 on the Knicks. Chandler wouldn’t be playing that because Paul would be in his face telling him “yo, take the ball to the basket.” Chandler doesn’t have that now.

In terms of Nate being a cancer, I don’t think he is. He’s proving why its good to have him around. He makes the shots when they need to be made, he keeps his dribble without losing the ball, and he makes very good passes. Like the drive when he broke down the defense from the key and made a very athletic two hand pass to Chandler..chandler missed but it showed how underated of a passer he is. Comparing him to Duhon, Nate’s vision is way better than Duhon. He makes good passes in the lane and feeds well when players cut to the basket.

    Speaking of Marvin Albert .

     interesting fact!
If you go back to when Isiah was coaching and check
Who was covering the games when the knicks
won you would be astonished to find out that over
90 percent of all the games they won Clyde was absent.
Since he is the worst most abusive/instigating home team comentator
in the NBA, I vote before they fire any other coaches
they re-assign(if not possible to fire, due to contract) Clyde to do something else in the NBA , perhaps vending.
I’m not sure if  his absents is the same this year in the few games they won but I would definately try replacing him 1st. Marv Albert was so much better
than clyde the boo generator. Since getting him back may be impossible
I vote for Gus Johnson. Clyde does not keep his comments
construtive. He’ll say stuff like “common duhon, do something like he conveniently said the day after duhon made that comment about the Knicks team.
Clyde is a trouble maker. These guys have family and friends watching the game. Those type of comments will make players play selfishly.

He’s been doing that for too long.
