Recap: Knicks 126 Suns 99

By Tommy Dee on Dec 01, 2009, 9:58 pm

BOX SCORE

Mike Breen said it best. Tonight was a rare night to enjoy a blow out victory, so I’m going to do the same. I’m only going to say this, you can find productive guards in any draft when you think about it. If you look hard enough you can. A 6’10 shooter who can get his shot off when being guarded (imagine when he actually has someone create some space and kick) is an absolute must to a team that has aspirations of being a really good team.

This team is good enough to shoot 50% from the field and when they do, they can score.

Agree thats what he was recruited for in Cleveland initially I think. You get a tall back court in Hughes and Chandler

I usually have something negative to say about the coaching but DAntoni put together a masterpiece of an offensive attack. The last three games you could notice more plays designed to attack the basket. The three point shots were only taken by our good three point shooters and they did not settle for the three. Yes most of us have been asking for this style of play all along but give DAntoni credit for finally getting it. Hughes was magnificent and duhon served no purpose but to stay out the way of the offense. He could not even guard nash. They used jeffries and chandler to guard him. I will miss hughes when he is traded aso David Lee.

When you watch Duhon closely you see that on every offensive possession, whether it’s a fast break or not, he always stops at the three point line and passes the ball, he never drives to the hoop to break down the defense. He doesn’t drive and kick, he only looks for the Pic and roll with Lee. If that isn’t there, he passes to someone else. Duhon should be backing up Larry Hughes.

I dunno about that, but I think Hughes showing his ability to distribute should allow us to experiment with Douglas and Nate at the point.

    GREAT performance.

Gallinari is a special player, he will be a star one day or another.

Jordan Hill was active, obviously he’s not confident enough to be effective but he will be a good player.

Jared Jeffries had a GREAT game tonight. He was impressive. Larry Hughes also had a great game, and Al Harrington played well within his limitations (no Skip 2 my Lou etc).

And Amare Stoudemire is not SIGNIFICANTLY better than David Lee from my POV, I’d much rather see the Knicks spend $8 mill on D-Lee than $17 on Amare next summer. He’ll never be dominant again in my opinion.

    Finally an entertaining game.

Amare showed why he is not a player to go after — he plays no D.

Amare, Frye and Nash play no D. Must be fun to play the Suns. I expect their record to come down to earth.

The Knix are shooting great! 3 games in a row now.

A game like that just makes me wonder where thats been. The Suns were just playing really bad defense, but where has hughes been with those passes. If he does that more often instead of looking for his shot all the time, the team will be a lot better. And Gallo was awesome. Definitely the best game of his career. He has to be more aggressive on this team and they have to keep getting him the ball. I don’t expect this a lot, but they really need him. Great game.

Tonight, they finally varied the offense. I saw more cutting and back door moves tonight than I have in all the other games combined. I hope they continue to mix it up more from here on in.

Hughes, over the last several games seems to have developed a rapport wwith Gallo that Duhon lacks. Duhon seems to actually loook away from Gallo on the break, Hughes looks for him. Al seems to be liking Gallo more out there as he knows Gallo is willing to pass to him. Great game, Larry.

Allowing Gallo to do some cutting and getting some nice passes under the hoop on the move certainly seemed to build his confidence by allowing him to get some dunks and rebounds. This may be the way to get Gallo more involved early in the game.

Chandler was also effective early in the game. I’m assuming that Chandler didn’t start the second half because he couldn’t guard Nash?

My only nervousness came in the second half when Duhon came in and the lead immediately shrank. Thankfully, God, great effort, the law of averages, and perhaps a complacent Suns team allowed the KNicks some sunlight of their own.

Now, it is time to focus on the Magic.

Chandler didn’t start the 2nd half because he was in foul trouble.

Suns just gave up the game in memoriam of MikeD. Shhhhh I didn’t say it.
Basketball is so EASY to screw up.
While you bask at awesomeness I just hope we will be able to prolong this moment by one more game.
If we beat Orlando… I see some doubt around me… Hmmm..WHY??? We just beat Suns. Amare, Nash and Richardson are better then Howard at Carter aren’t they?

Good game by Jeffries. The one thing he’s consistently good at is giving opposing PGs fits. But he did a lot of good things tonight. One or two more games like that and maybe we can trade him. Please please please.

Gallo looked a lot healthier today. When he’s battling for rebounds I feel a lot better about his long term prospects and his back. He has to fill out the stat sheet better. A couple of blocks was a pleasant surprise.

Every time I think Chandler is about to snap out of his funk and become a good player he does a few incredibly stupid things and goes right back into a coma. Seriously, this kid should be coming off the bench. As much as Harrington makes my stomach turn at times because he’s such a black hole every time he gets the ball , he’s a much better version of Chandler than Chandler. I’d eventually like to see Hill getting major minutes over both of them.

The team still desperately needs another very good outside shooter besides Gallo. You can sort of see the opposing team giving space to Duhon, Jeffries, and Chandler. All of them are starting to be hesitant about shooting when they are open. I’m not complaining. That’s what I’ve been hoping for from those three. But at times the offense almost ran out of time and forced a bad shot because there wasn’t another player on the court that could knock em down consistently from the outside.

    Greetings Knowledge,

Yes, I wrote much about Rubio, but not because I’m obsessed with him, but because he may be the point guard of the future.

All I wrote about the chess/poker/head game won’t be a coincidence when Kahn has no other choice, but to trade Rubio.

It should happen and Walsh should be on it.

    good win last nite.

It didnt really surprise me. I thought the Suns would look past us to their game in Cleveland Tonight. And seeing how they pulled their whole starting 5 for 25% of the game we didnt have much of a challenge down the stretch.

It is amazing what this team is capable of when they exhibit effort on BOTH ends of the court. Jeffries continues to build value.

The SEVEN man rotation (Nate had 6 minutes in the first 3 quarters) is unsustainable. You can not play at the pace D’Antoni demands with just 7 bodies.

I agree that I saw some offensive movement and cuts to the hoop that we had not seen to date. Was this a philosophical chance or taking advantage of Amare’s swiss cheese defense?

Good Win.. we can build on this.

That’s the way I thought we would be playing before the season and maybe sneak into the playoffs.

But in reality I am just enjoying it for as long as it lasts.

The Suns do not play D and they are Small. We are a bigger team and that’s pretty funny because one reason we lose all the time is our lack of height.

I could not believe how we got so many second shots against the Suns and that’s something that kills us against teams with bigger centers and PF’s.

I wish the season ended now.

Oh they’re here, they are the ones saying “woooah easy…just ONE win.” as if that’s not completely obvious. They are one dimensional thinkers who value only their own myopic vision.

This is not a good team and we can safely assume we’re not going to the finals anytime soon…but at least on nights like these you can see some bright spots for the future. For one, I think Hill looked OK. He missed a lot of bunnies but he is pretty quick, athletic and active, obviously the kid needs some time to develop cause he looks like he’s pressing now but he can get his shot around the hoop. That was encouraging.

NOPE,its just one of those things, tonite ORLANDO,back to reality, and on thursday everyone will be saying “FIRE D’ANTONI”….”KILL JEFFRIES” etc.BLAH BLAH BLAH ……HOW WAS THAT?

I was at the game last night. What a show of intesity from the outset. The team was just in attack mode all night, and no one (except Gallo, but that’s okay) settled for contested 3′s. Gallo is special. I most loved those two monster blocks, the two drives in the 1st Q, and that one 3 pointer from the top of the key when the entire arena knew he was shooting no matter what.

Also great game for D Lee and Harrington, both of whom just attacked the hoop all night. They are both surprisingly good finisher.s.

It is truly amazing they were able to do so much with Chris Duhon running the point. He was awful. The only good moments he had were in the 3d Q when Phoenix started double- and triple-teaming Gallo (which was awesome!). I cannot believe that NYC, the home of the crossover dribble, has the one starting PG in the league who can’t cross anyone over. It’s embarassing.

Larry Hughes just really knows how to play ball. I think he ahd 8 or 9 assists in the 1st Q. Make him and Douglas the PGs. Banish Duhon (and while you’re at it, Eddy Curry), to the bench.

    • MrFurious
      Dec 02, 2009, 10:50 am at 10:50 am #

Duhon only played 26 minutes. Maybe his ineptitude is no longer “something that can be corrected” but a cruel reality that the GM/Coaches are finally coming to terms with…

Limit his minutes and get the kids some burn.

      Let us pray.

I pray. I should have mentioned that Duhon can’t guard anyone, either. They started him on Nash, who killed him, quickly moved him to J-Rich, who also killed him. It was ugly.
