27pts and 50% from downtown is nice, but that’s what I was eventually expecting from Gallo once he found his rhythm. It’s really the 10 boards and 2 blocks that impresses me the most. Danilo has such good length and more muscle than people give him credit for, he’s capable of being a good rebounder and help defender. If he becomes more consistent in those aspects he can make that leap from good to great.

I agree. We already know he is a great shooter, but if he starts boarding well, blocking an occasional shot, and making plays with good passes, he’s got “great” potential. Last night he was a few assists away from a “BIrd” like performance (of course Larry did it every night lol)

What are your thoughts on Chandler?

I’m starting to give up hope that he’ll become a solid starter or borderline all star. Every time he looks like he’s getting it together and is about to start breaking out he does 2-3 moronic things and goes right back into a coma. He does some things that make me think he just doesn’t have enough going on upstairs.

The offensive foul was the icing on the cake, I was like “really?”.

“Danilo has such good length and more muscle than people give him credit for…”

Pause.

I think the lack of a leader on this team has hindered Chandlers development. He’s the kind of player that would benefit most from a mentor who not only has skill and winning attitude, but the bball IQ to back it up. For example, I think the emergence of Ariza had a lot to do with Kobe showing exactly how to put a game on your shoulders. Chandler has all the tools, he just needs to put the pieces together. It starts with defense.

One side not about Chandler; I think his motor has improved. From the begininng of the season. Has anyone else noticed that it seems like a good chunk of his offensive rebounds lately have been off his own shot? He’s missing but he doesn’t give up. That’s encouraging.

I was at the game. The significance of the blocks was huge. The first came right after Richardson had rejected him, and on the very next possession Gallo got him back. And then next block, the monster, came at the end of the third and led to the buzzer-beater score that put the nail in Phoenix’s coffin. Those were “do not even think about beating us tonight” blocks.

The Garden had a buzz about Gallo last night that hasn’t been there about a player in a long time. I just hope that his back is okay (he walks kind of funny), and that he will realize that he doesn’t just have to shoot threes. He almost looks lost when he gets the ball about 10-15 out, and it seems to take him a second to realize he can shoot from there, too.

I thought he was just stiff and awkward because of his back.

Go Gallo, He Looked Great! If He can do this pretty consistently We can Have Our Own Star To Pair With a Free Agent.

You guys are too much. He had a good game. Good for him. Let’s see him put together a good string of games before we start calling Gallo a star. Weren’t we saying the same thing about Wilson Chandler not too long ago?

Wasn’t Wilson Chandler the most sought after player in the NBA, the guy who can get us Monta Ellis, a top 5 pick in any draft, and virtually any star we wanted?

I think Gallo’s future is at the 4 or even 5. If the Knicks could sign Chris Bosh next summer they can use Gallo the way Toronto’s using Andrea Bargnani. Gallo has a hard time keeping SF’s in front of him. Last week vs. Denver Melo kept killing him on the leak out play after play after play, just because Gallo didn’t have the foot speed to keep up with him.

You also saw some of that vs. Orlando on Sunday with how he couldn’t keep up with Rashard Lewis.

The one thing Gallo has proven he can do is defend the paint well. He’s a good weak side shot blocker in the paint, and I really see his future at the 4 or 5, cuz he’s clearly too slow to play the 3.

There is a huge difference between Chandler and Gallo.

The reason many of us felt Chandler had a chance to develop into an above average stater or marginal all star was his above average athleticism and the fact that his poor overall scoring efficiency was largely a function of poor shot selection. If you project that athleticism into greater skills over time and eliminate all the poor shots as a function of learning how to play, you have a pretty good player. The problem is that he missed the entire off season on crutches and couldn’t work on his game, lost a step athletically after surgery, and seems to be pretty dense. So instead of going forward he has gone backwards. It remains to be seen if he can turn it around, but his basketball IQ seems so low I’m not sure he will be that good even if he gets that step back.

Gallo is already skilled and smart enough to be a marginal all star.

What Gallo needs is to stay healthy and get stronger so he can be tougher on the inside, board better, and get to the hoop more.

The problems I have with Wilson Chandler are his motor and his basketball IQ. Doesn’t it seem odd that this guy gets called for a charge almost EVERY single night whenever he’s on a 2 on 1 fastbreak, cuz he always makes the bad read on the play?

He also doesn’t seem to bring it every single posession, or every single night. He’s just content to just float out there. He was the same way in college too. He’ll tease you every once in a while, but struggled putting it together on a consistent basis.

He doesn’t seem to have that hunger that great players have.

The offensive fouls are the kinds of plays that leave me speechless.

How many times does he have to ram into a player that is firmly planted for several seconds before he realizes that he’s not going to get that call?

Then he has this look on his face like he can’t believe he didn’t get the call. I hate to be so insulting, but it’s borderline retarded.

It happens to everyone once in awhile, but with him it’s almost a constant thing.

When he’s outside he has no shot and when he’s inside he’s totally out of control and doesn’t know how to finish.

Gallinari’s future might be at the 4 but he’ll have to spend some time in the weight room first.

Gallinari a 5?

Why not? Him and Andrea Bargnani are extremely similar. Check out the numbers Bargnani is putting up in Toronto at the 5 next to Chris Bosh.

I can see Gallo doing that or better. I think he’s already a huge improvement over David Lee at the 5. He’s smarter, and at least TRIES to block shots.

He wouldn’t be the first 5 who can shoot the 3. Look at Mehmet Okur, Rasheed Wallace, Channing Frye.

Yeah but Bargnani has always been stronger/heavier, he does not have back problems.

Wilson Chandler will be fine, but I’ll definitely lose my patience if he’s not willing to play harder. If Chandler is Otis Redding then Gallinari’s Rick James!

We all know that he’s not a smart basketball player. No disrespect, it is what it is. But his lack of aggression/passion is really annoying.

No he’s not Shawn Marion.
