Game Notes:

This is a big game from a momentum standpoint. The Knicks have won three straight, but so have the Hornets, and they are 10-2 at home. The Hornets are very beatable, especially with the way the Knicks are playing, but you never know with the Knicks. The Hornets give up 102 ppg and score only 99, and their three straight wins have come against Sacramento and Minnesota twice. They lost to Sacramento by 16 last week.

The Knicks actually got their first win of the season against Chris Paul’s Hornets, and they’ve won three straight against them, sweeping the season series last year. Emeka Okafor usually posterizes David Lee offensively, and he comes away looking like Hakeem Olajuwon. Chris Duhon can’t contain Chris Paul, and he won’t have to; we’ll see what Jared Jeffries can do, coming off on an awesome game against the Blazers.

The biggest factors for the Knicks are Al Harrington and Larry Hughes. Danilo Gallinari should be able to score in bunches with Peja guarding him, but it’s hard to believe that Al and Larry will continue their production. Al is averaging 20 ppg on 46% shooting, coming off a game where he shot just 4/15. 46% from Al is phenomenal. Larry is historically as inconsistent as they come, but he’s been great on both sides of the ball this year.

To break this down, the Knicks play one team with a winning record for the rest of December, the 10-9 Spurs, who haven’t been impressive. Now, the Knicks are 8 games below .500 themselves, but they can definitely do some damage against the likes of Charlotte, Chicago twice, New Jersey, and the Clippers. We’ve seen this before; they win a couple of tough games and then don’t know how to handle success, but the opportunity is there, they have to capitalize. It pays off to have such a tough schedule early on. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but if the Knicks can come away with a victory tonight, we could be looking at a 6-8 game winning streak.

  • Bob go knicks

i have a feeling that the KNICKs have lost their momentum during the 4 days off.I am betting that the Knicks get totally blown out this game.the are getting big heads, and the hornets have something to prove.(i hope im wrong)

  • Bob go knicks

if the hornets are 10-2 at home how does that make them “VERY BEATABLE”?

  • Myles A. Mills

because the Knicks have beaten them 3 times straight, got their first win of the year against them, and they’re 10-11 overall.

  • Bob go knicks

    but these are our knicks!

  • Myles A. Mills

    I know, that’s why I wrote this:

‘Now, the Knicks are 8 games below .500 themselves, but they can definitely do some damage against the likes of Charlotte, Chicago twice, New Jersey, and the Clippers. We’ve seen this before; they win a couple of tough games and then don’t know how to handle success, but the opportunity is there, they have to capitalize.’

I’m not saying we’ll win, but I’m saying that the Hornets aren’t some unbeatable team.

  • Bob go knicks

plus chris paul is healthy and so is chris duhon lol

  • Chris Alvino

    Good one Bob…

Let’s face it, if the Knicks play the type of ball they played against the Suns and the Blazers (that unselfish, hard nosed brand of basketball), then they will be tough to beat. If they play that brand of ball, they can match up with other average teams in this league. At this point, I am not willing to call the Hornets a very good team like they were a couple of years ago. When Paul is unstoppable, they are very good. If Paul has a pedestrian game (by his standards), they are, as Myles put it, beatable.

  • JeffFinance123

Hornets have won 3 in a row, and are 7-3 in last 10 and have played one of the toughest schedules.

Knicks better have game face on.

This is the only Knicks game in a 7 day period. They should be rested and focused.

  • Chris Alvino

They played Monday night? Not sure I get what you’re saying there….

  • Bob go knicks

    or rusty

  • italian stallion

    Eddy Curry sighting!

  • italian stallion

OMG, they are falling apart already

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Eddy Curry is just awful so far tonight. The man should exercise some pride and exercise his ETO this summer.

  • Boots

Homer star call at the end of the first quarter. Point awarded to Tim Donaghy.

  • Knicks4life

    Curry looks terrible.

I really f**king hate Chris Duhon.

Knick ball movement looks good but they need some interior defense. They are getting killed in the paint. Why not at least try Darko. Curry and Darko should play against Okafur instead of a mobile center like Songalia and let Lee play the four.

Horrible call on that foul by Curry.

  • ds2488

wow, what a horrible ending to the quarter. Not even sure that was a foul on Eddy, but what a horrible play by Duhon to let Paul get behind him. Duhon is just plain awful, although at least hes hit some shots. Chandler still needs to learn that he can not shoot.

  • italian stallion

That was a bullshit foul call.

  • Knicks4life

Offense looks 100X better with Gallo.

  • ds2488

What a nice shot by Gallo, he looks really impressive so far. Him and Hughes both look great.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    so far so good.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    duhon is pure trash

    12mill for what donnie?

  • ds2488

Dagawd, at least he didn’t give 5 years like Zeke would have done. But damn, is he really amazingly bad. That guy has no business playing more than 15 minutes, and even that may be a stretch.

  • italian stallion

The inside defense is a horror show

  • The_Guy

Will Eddy Curry block a shot this year?

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

damm jeffries gotta learn how to dunk b4 he tries a lay up..

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    that’s a lottery question.lol

an i don’t like to gamble

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    yes it is

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    thats it
N.O is opening up a can of whopass on them

  • Knicks4life

I’m sorry but Jeffries is pretty bad too. I mean really bad. Can we at least see Jordan Hill rather than this guy.

Hope all the Larry Hughes as a PG talk will stop now. He is a much better player than Duhon but he can’t run the offense.

Gallo = Peja in his prime. And for those not old enough to have seen him and think that is an insult check some old tape of Peja in Sacremento.

  • ds2488

Jeffries sucks he can’t even do the most basic things on the court like defensive rotation. Chandler is an absolute joke, he may have the lowest basketball iq I have ever seen. Im guarding Peja who can barely move, but I will just start going under screens and allow him open looks so he can get hot. Oh, I can’t shoot, so I will chuck up shots all game from 3. Just terrible, Dantoni needs to tell him he better learn how to play or hell be sitting on the bench like Nate.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

where the phuk is the 6th pick at

  • ds2488

Yeah Knicks, that is definitely not an insult. Peja was a great player for most of his career.

  • Mucha

In his prime Peja was one of the best players in the NBA. Webber + Stojakovic should have won a championship.

  • Knicks4life

    Two ways it happens:

His fat head runs into an Allen Iverson chuck in the lane.

Or he’ll be running away from the opposing team’s smallest player waving his hands wildly in fear and his fingers will graze the shot as [Ty Lawson?] falls to the floor laughing.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

yes peja in his prime was a deadly shooter
    good comparison
the only difference is gillinari don’t get as much shots as he did

  • Knicks4life

    Playing in Spain.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    lmao..

    not rubio.
    gillinari

  • pedro

Duhon is getting raped. Take him out D’Antoni.

  • Mucha

Is Gallinari a better defender than Chandler? I mean seriously. Opposing players haven’t scored on Gallinari once (truth), Chandler is really struggling against Stojakovic and he committed a couple of stupid fouls in the first half.

  • The_Guy

    6th pick was Jonny Flynn.

  • Mucha

    Harrington! ROTFL DAYYYMN!

  • ds2488

Yeah, because instead of Bibby, Vlade, and CWebb we have friggin Duhon and Jeffries and Chandler just getting way too many minutes. Those 3 should just be permanently benched at this point. Chandler has gotten absolutely dominated by Peja. Duhon continues to be shockingly awful in every aspect. And Jeffries is just terrible, doing all the little things that don’t show up on the scorecard like poor defensive rotation and getting schooled by Darius Songaila. they all suck and should not be playing

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    good buzzer shot

now they can build of that in the second half

  • Knicks4life

Nice shot Al but don’t act like Nate. Your team is still down nine. Lets regroup and try to play some interior defense. Maybe play a zone with one person focused on Peja on the perimeter.

  • bartnyk

    BIG SHOT LOL

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    lol

  • ds2488

Gallinari is actually a solid defender. He just looks really awkward. No doubt this is a pathetic defensive performance by both Chandler and Duhon. Both have just been schooled and dominated.

  • Knicks4life

    Lol. Um no he isn’t.

  • pedro

can someone twit to d’antoni: “look behind you! yes, it’s Tony Douglas”

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    ight thanks for the info

  • Knicks4life

Gallo gets killed on backdoor screens and gets absolutlely lost in transition on defense. He has constant mental lapses on the defensive ends which may be why he sits so long in the 4th. He is also not a very good defensive rebounder or a good rebounder in traffic. He also has poor spacing when it comes to getting out on shooters. I give him all the credit in the world for being a very good offensive player but lets be realistic about his D. It needs alot of work. but he is young, he’ll get there.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    agreed

  • Chris Alvino

Chris Paul can pick apart our defense with his eyes.

The defense towards the end of the second quarter was pathetic.

Chris Duhon is having a brutal defensive game. That play to end the first quarter was embarrassing…

That shot by Al Harrington was huge for the Knicks. The team needed that desperately.

When the Knicks made their comeback in the first quarter, we saw smart shots, solid passing, and tighter defense. Once they started losing in the second quarter, we saw off balanced shots, one on one play, and guys getting lost backdoor.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

the reason why doug mightn’t see any mins tonite is cuz
he likes a 6 7 man rotation as the season rolls
the most he will go is 8 9 if the knicks are blowing teams out

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    yes those are
    the only possibilities

unless he really tries to block a shot
    which is rare

  • Boots

They atarted losing in the second quarter the same way they started losing in the beginning . . . when the starters were in.

  • Boots

BTW: How many shots did you guys count for Gallo in the first half? I had four; the two at the elbow, the dunk, the brick from the arc, and the orbital three, plus two free throws for his nine points. I thought I saw a graphic that put him at four for six.

  • Mucha

The only problem that I see is spacing.

Gallinari had to guard two small guards (Collison and Brown) during one possession because HUGHES AND JEFFRIES were searching Easter eggs in the paint.

  • Mucha

In this game? Yes he is, it is obvious.

  • Mucha

He’s 3 of 5 I think. The fall-away jumpshot, the dunk, 2 free throws, the brick, missed lay-up (rolled out) and the three.

  • pedro

Jeffries is playing way toooo many minutes

  • pedro

Peja is with what? 25 minutes? Gallo with 14 minutes maybe? see the diference. Gallo defense wouldn’t be that much of an issue if opossed to an aging player like Peja.

  • pedro

Gallo would have a lot more open looks if Al was playing (inside) alongside him

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    big shot JEFFRIES

  • Mucha

    Jeffries jumpshot of the night.

NBATV might put it in the top 10.

  • Mucha

They might as well put Gallinari’s airball lol

  • Mucha

Wow great game Chandler. He didn’t play particularly well in the first-half (poor defense, poor shot-selection) but he’s balling tonight.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

hughes needs to calm down a lil
he is setting a tone to chuck em up to the team

  • bartnyk

    He starts slow.

  • bartnyk

the refs in this game are something WWWWWOWWWW

  • pedro

bashing jeffries online seems to work. like butterflies and earthquakes

  • pedro

this refs are driving me crazy

  • Mucha

    Wow.

  • ds2488

Yeah Jeffries, Duhon, and Chandler really shut me up. Haha all of a sudden they start playing like basketball players after I say they should be permanently benched. Refs are terrible.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

4 straight wins for the knicks

    goodjob

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    they are improving but
    they still SUCK ok
guys don’t going running naked in the cold now..

  • Mucha

ROTFL are you KIDDING ME??? Air Du-Du!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

It’s not just Friday Night Knicks – it’s now Friday Night Duhon – back to back Friday performances by Duhon – different hero everynight – Friday night hero past two weeks – Duhon.

Great block by Gallo on Peja

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

And another nice second effort by Gallo looking for offensive rebound.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

    The bank is open!!!

  • bartnyk

    AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA RAINING 333333333333

  • JASONHAYES

ALL I CAN SAY IS “WOW”!

  • Boots

Even a bunch of homer calls aren’t going to stop them tonight!

  • ds2488

Wow amazing game. They simply just went nuts at the end there. that was really awesome.

  • Mucha

    The 4th quarter was crazy.

    ROTFL Du-Du and Gallo’s bankshots.

Most entertaining quarter of the year so far.

  • Boots

    OT:
I wear orange a lot. I love those orange T-shirts. Are thet for sale anywhere? I’m heading to Florida after Christmas for the winter, and I want to show my colors.

  • bartnyk

On another note Bayless def buried on Portland’s bench they have no confidence in the kid.

  • Dave the Rave

    YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

THIS TEAM HAS IT ALL TOGETHER!

    30 MORE WINS VERY POSSIBLE!

Screaming my head off in Northern California!

  • Jeff Cykiert

So i think it’s safe to say: Gallo is a shotblocker!, who would’ve thought?

Clearly, Duhon has to play well for this team to play well. This goes back to the age old concept that Mike D needs his PG to do work.

harrington is really putting himself together as a player. He doesn’t go on crazy shooting sprees and when he’s cold he plays smart to get back on track. he’s becoming a very, very solid player; better than he has ever been.

  • joeyballz

Great Game, Knicks are playing some good ball. I really liked the fact that they stayed calm even as the Hornets built that big lead in the second quarter. I think Coach deserves some kudos here too

  • Jeff Cykiert

Dagawd, i can finally say this with confidence: we do not suck. We played awfully to open the season, but this streak is no fluke. They changed the way they are playing, they slowed it down, are taking good shots, playing great team defense, and most importantly MOVING THE BALL ALOT. We are creating high percentage shots almost every possession. There is no reason to think that they haven’t figured out what it is they are doing differently (its not just hitting shots), and that they can’t continue to do it. We just beat 4 very good teams.

AND GALO IS A GOOD SHOTBLOCKER! i love it.

  • IDunnoMyName

Great win! Maybe Bermenator and Isoangry will stop with the D’Antoni bashing and admit the Knicks are playing some solid ball and, perhaps more to the point, solid defense.

Now comes the actual test – can they handle success when it is expected of them. They need to win three of their next five at the least – take care of the home in the home/home games and the Clippers sandwich. And then Miami, SA and Detroit come to town, so we need to feast now.

  • Jeff Cykiert

Forget the 3′s, duhon is proving that he can run an offense; he is the type of PG who will go around in circles until he finds the best pass to make, and not even look at the bucket unless they give it to him… THAT is what a true “pass first” pointguard is.

he is also proving that this offense can’t produce anything when he is playing awfully.

  • IDunnoMyName

Did you see the sweeeeeet finger roll in the second quarter? He needs to do that more. He has skills and with the right mindset he could be very very good.

  • Jeff Cykiert

Let me be the first to bring up this topic…

IF the knicks can actually keep this up and win 41 games (that’s a huge IF, i understand that, but at least now it seems possible) Could MD win coach of the year? I think so

  • bartnyk

Some of you need to relax we are still below .500 lets keep it going and not have these crazy up and downs and go crazy when they win and hate them when they lose lets stay level headed good win tonight and CP3 is he asleep out there or what he has no fire this season.

  • Dave the Rave

Totally agree, Jeff. Harrington never played like this for 3 yrs at GS — all Nellie let him do was spot up for 3s. D’A has allowed him to play a total offensive game and he is dynamite. I give D’A credit for this win streak for getting them to play intense D and pass on O.

  • IDunnoMyName

If they get to 41 after the awful start then Coach of the Year would be a no brainer. I think playoffs would put him in the discussion. But lets not get ahead of ourselves, this upcoming stretch will be a good test. If we beat teams that are supposed to beat us, then we should handle our business against the lower-tier teams like the Bobcats, Clips and – for the moment – Bulls. This is where we faltered last year, when we let our guard down and played up and down to the competition. We can’t have a repeat of the Sacramento game where they were so happy with how they played in losses to the Celtics and Lakers that they forgot to show up.

  • IDunnoMyName

He wants out. He is the next KG.

  • Dave the Rave

    Jared Jeffries, Mr. Intangibles:

    33 mins
    4 rebs
    2 blocks
    1 TO
    4 pts
    +28

    Pay the guy more!

    LMAO!

  • Mucha

Rick Adelman and Scott Skiles are doing a great job though.

I think Adelman should get the award if the Rockets make the playoffs.

  • The_Guy

You can’t give it to Mike D’Antoni. Not with the horrible job he did in the first 10 games. The fact that they’re winning now, after he finally came to his senses and slowed the offense down, shows you how bad a job he was doing before.

Coach of the year has to go to Scott Skiles, Rick Adelman, or Paul Westphal. Those guys are doing a phenomenal job, and don’t have half the talent on their roster that D’Antoni does.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    mos def

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

scott brooks gotta be in there also

  • Knicks4life

Yeah I wasn’t just talking about this game. This is all the games I have seen Gallo in. I give Chandler a pass because I truly believe he is not full recovered yet but I’ve seen him play some lock down D and have good instincts as a shot blocker.

  • Knicks4life

Partially agree. I don’t think Rick Adelman has that much talent on that roster. The job he is doing is nothing short of spectacular.

  • Bob go knicks

hes a very good all-around ball player. If he had speed,he would be unstopable. But in the next few years ,this guy will be awesome

  • Bob go knicks

    is KOBE out there?

  • jay zee

I say we stick to the facts. The knicks organization has had several well qualified
coaches with impressive resumes , and every year people who claim to be NY
fans go on the blogs and heavily criticize the team Leader, that when  1st announced, every one approved of.  I started to wonder what’s the common denominator in all the knick losses, and I came up with this.

If u take all the loses and dissect who was present and who was absent when the Knicks performed, you will come to the conclusion that Clyde Frazier
is absent for more than 90% of all the Knicks wins. I could be off, but not by
much. If you examine the Isaiah error alone, you will discover that, 90% is really, really close, if not accurate.  I would not be surprised if that percentage was higher. I’ve been a knick fan since Marv Albert, and Clyde is in my opinion, the worst home team announcer. Since some of the negative comments he’s been able to mask his poor irresponsible analysis but he’s still detrimental.  Aside from causing havoc on the team With all his negative and many times Unconstructive criticism. (Like the game, the day after Duhon criticized his teammates , when Clyde conveniently said “common Duhon, do something” because Duhon was not playing well) Clyde Frazier is the most abusive and instigative commentator of any NBA home team. If a player is hot, hell point out all the negatives before acknowledging the good performance. I say we tweak the show a little, by transferring Clyde to Alaska and see what happens or re-assigning him if transferring is not possible.
Of course I am  just pointing out the reality, when I refer to his attendance . The real problem is his comments. Family members and friends of the players are hearing his comments, and despite what many believe , theses comments absolutely will have an affect on how the players perform the next time the ball is in there hand. One of the things I enjoyed the most about yesterdays Knick game, is that Clyde was not heard on my television. The commentating last night was constructive and absolutely reasonable.
One of the biggest NY NBA losses,  was Marv Albert’s departure. His coverage was Marvelous, energetic ,fair honest and most importantly consistently constructive. I’m also a fan of Gus Johnson. I believe the Commentators last night was totally fair, and innocent. I hope to hear them everyday in place of Clyde.

    One last thing,
Recently, Clyde Frazier made a comment , I think it was during the Knicks Laker Game , that Kobe is a much more Superior player than Lebron. Pass Judgement the way you see fit about Slydes “Timming” . I have never, in all the Games I watched sly pass judgement on , hear him make such a definative unprovoked remark about Labron James , the way he did that day. Clyde is sorry , and should be physically removed from the garden for all the harm he has cost NY . Clyde is deceptive and very influential , not the person you would like your kids to be influenced by.

    Let Go Knicks  !!!
    Lets Go Dantoni !!1
