Ultimate Gallo Mix

Enjoy Big C’s best to date, and that’s sayin’ something…

  • Jeff Cykiert

Hollinger’s playoff odds are very wierd right now, in our favor. I guess it puts a strong emphasis on recent play.

  • Heri

I don’t believe in odds, I believe in talent and the Knicks always had the talent to at least make the playoffs.

  • jho

That mix was awesome. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but having Gallo makes a huge difference for me as a Knicks’ fan and gives me real hope. He’s the first Knick I see as a legit all-star who can really impact games since Allan Houston’s prime years. We just need to pair this guy up with a legit pg, and a strong-side shot-blocking athletic 5, and we’re good to go. Or just pair him with Lebron ^^

  • Heri

Our big four is Lee, Harrington, Gallo and Chandler with the play of Hughes.

  • Heri

That’s a solid five core woth some interesting pieces around them.

  • Heri

Douglas has shown flashes, but not set loose. Hill hasn’t been given a chance yet.

  • Heri

Nate and Duhon have been disappointing, but Duhon seems to be awakening, and in Nate we should see the same either here or elsewhere.

  • Heri

Curry and his weight lost is interesting in itself or what he will bring in trade. It’s like pre season for Curry.

  • Heri

Jeffries may be the number one defensive weapon against the rival superstar point guards.

  • EQ1217

I’m still waiting to see Gallo’s handle the ball like he did in the Cavs summer game. He’s such a great passer, if he handles the ball more he can easily avg 4-5 assists a game.

It’s exciting to see a young draft pick come into his own as a potential star.

  • Wheres The D

I am going to say that he is still strengthening his back after the surgery he had, but where are the “Hops” he had in his Italy clips? One clip there he just threw down on a guy. Right now when he dunks it looks like he is just getting his hands high enough to dunk, where in some of his Euro clips he is getting up with authority (See 5:23 into the video).

  • italian stallion

I agree. It does look like he’s not 100%……yet?

  • italian stallion

He’s rebounding and blocking shots better. Playmaking is the next step.

  • Wheres The D

Yeah, I am always afraid he is going to aggravate his back on a dunk like in New Orleans. I hope with some more rehabilitation, we can see that type of explosiveness again. But given his back issues, I am not holding my breath on that.

  • EQ1217

Definitely, I’m more excited about the fact that he is rebounding and blocking shots than his shooting prowess.

  • EQ1217

IMO dunking is a little overrated anyway. There are plenty of ways to finish around the basket besides dunking, look at David Lee for example a lot of his finishes are layups or bankers.

  • monstert

Honestly, Larry Hughes has to be considered one of the 4 most important players on the court. The Knicks are just better when he’s out there, even when his shots aren’t falling.

  • dirty_swish

    CAAACCKKAAAAAAAWWWW!!!!!!!!
get the rooster call goin’, people.

  • totti

For us italians who love this sport and started to watch nba in the middle of the 80s, it is just a dream to have some italian guys in your league. Today tecnology allow us to follow any nba games we want and it is fantastic. But the more fantastic thing is to have Danilo performing with knicks jersey. Even people from other sports like football which is our real religion and the religion of any other country ourside us, follow Danilo’s first step in nba with passion and faith. The same thing did not happen for Bargnani, not that we don’t like Il Mago it’s just that Danilo appear to our eyes as a completely another type of player. A player who can become a star like nobody before him from outside us. IMO the goal is to become a player like Larry Bird. And i am not afraid of my words. If only he stays healthy.

  • Mucha

Gallinari’s game always reminded me of Larry Bird. Obviously he’ll NEVER reach Bird’s level (top 5), but he has “similar” skill set : 6’10, great basketball IQ, great shooter, good passer, good ball-handler, fire…

Poor man’s Larry Bird if healthy. I had the balls to say it last year, gotta love me right?

  • Mucha

Oh yeah, can’t forget the bad back, 6th pick in the draft… there’s definitely a little bit of Bird in Gallo.

  • Dave the Rave

I’m rooting for that too, Totti. Danillo has the sweetest shot for a big man since Bird, and I think he will get better and better. No one can be as good as Bird, but the Rooster can be a solid all-star. Hope his back gets stronger & stays healthy.

  • Dave the Rave

Would be nice if the music track was not always elevator rap. Can we have some jazz or rock or Italian operetta…something else? ; )

  • totti

mucha dave i love your posts. Bird was so great that nobody can even think to be at the same level. IMO he was the best all time MJ apart of course. The thing i’m looking forward the most is to read an article by berman containing excuses about his angriness towards danilo. Others people on this blog will have to do it because as the time goes by he will be stronger and strongero

  • gonygo

what about us italians who started watching in the mid-sixties?

  • totti

many people are still talking about danilo’s draft. They still prefer lopez and i say ok lopez is good and big and today centers are rare but i cannot understand them when they still think to gordon who is a good guard like many many others in this league.

  • dino of syracuse

That was a great mix! Oh, I found some Johnny Bender highlights that Big C might have missed. Bender will definitely bring an edge to the team:

    Enjoy!

  • totti

sorry gonygo, but in italy the first broadcasting of nba games started in 1982 and i can still remember how we were excited about the possibility to watch doctorj, bird, kareem and then magic and……MJ! I confess i don’t know much of nba players and teams before this date. Anyway, if you start to watch nba in the sixties, for sure not from italy, you should be even more excited about all these italians playing in nba now. Sorry again gonygo, but when i say italians i don’t mean italo-american people. You are not italians and that’s it. I say this without disrespect of course.

  • gonygo

im sorry,im not from italy but my mother is,i thought you meant italian-americans

  • Knicks4life

I started reading the comments to this thread and was afraid people would be comparing Gallo to Dirk. Finally, people started wising up and stopped saying that Gallo was as good as Dirk.

Wait, did I just see a Larry Bird comparison? SMH until it falls off.

  • Jeff Cykiert

I like all the bird comparison’s, but bird was such a wierd, unique kind of player. I prefer to use a more recent comparison.

I like this one: He seems like a 6-10 version of Ginobli.

  • bmathews77

Gallinari’s game reminds me of Hedo Turkoglu….

  • James

That’s an awesome mix, but I don’t ever want to see footage from that Summer League game again…even seeing Gallo in the same frame with Tractor feels like bad juju. I think there needs to be a ceremonial burning of all footage from that game. Maybe throw in all footage of Charles Smith in the Finals as well, for good measure.

  • Jeff Cykiert

“It should be much it easier to persuade a top-level free agent to join their roster next season if the Knicks aren’t viewed as such a daunting rebuilding project. That’s especially true when you consider the rapid development of 21-year-old Danilo Gallinari, who’s thriving in his first full, healthy season with a 17.3 PER and a league-leading 64 3-pointers made.” – Hollinger today

If we’re getting all this hype now (which i actually think will help the player’s confidence, something they haven’t played with in a while), imagine what would happen if we actually do, by whatever chance, make the playoffs.

There’s a big ‘insider’ article on the knicks now, but it’s oddly burried on the site… a couple of the links are messed up but i’m sure they’ll fix it quickly.

  • totti

Hey jeff, not bad at all your comparison! I like it. imagine what a player will be ginobili at 6 10!!! I have to catch a plane for a shortbreak at msg, definitely! maybe the occasion will be vs toronto.

  • MJ

If Hughes could figure when to stop shooting even when his shot is not falling, I’d be a lot more happy with him. At times you know that if the ball goes to him, it’s not coming back. The NYK are a MUCH better team when they are passing the ball, not when Hughes is jacking up shots like there is no tomorrow.

  • totti

All of you remember the way LBJ talked to danilo at the end of last game at msg. This man is a king, he feels like a king and does not approach players lightly. I think he’s monitoring danilo game by game. Can we make playoffs? If i’m not wrong there are 58 games left for us. it means we have to win 33 to get 41 wins. I mean, 33 wins out of 58 games is possible, is realistic.

  • Mucha

Gallo’s skill set is IN THEORY quite similar to Larry Bird’s. There are many similarities but OBVIOUSLY he’ll never reach Bird’s level. It is just OBVIOUS, we don’t need a confirmation.

You want to hear what you want to hear though, you’re cool but I guess condescension is necessary.

  • gonygo

sorr totti, but lbj is an asshol, just cuz he can play ball, does not make him KING,or even a nice guy for that matter.EFFF LEBRON WHERE HE STANDS!

  • Mucha

I think you’re reading too much into it. Obviously he’s monitoring Gallinari’s development (I think Isola reported it) and he’s definitely the key in the LeBron sweepstakes. But James is also sending a message to Danny Ferry and his sponsors – he’s a basketball player AND a buisness man.

  • Mucha

    Detlef Schrempf

  • Jeff Cykiert

Knicks are front page of espn.com/nba

  • CircleLimit4

If Danilo could perfect the Euro first-step like Manu has, he could be unstoppable. Defenders would need to give him space in case he drives to the hole. He needs to work on his agility first, though. But I definitely can see that comparison. Distinctly Euro swagger but with that balls-to-the-wall motor. Like if you put a Hemi in a BMW.

I think Gallo’s ceiling is a cathedral, if he reached it he could be in the top 25 players of all time. Take his size, skill set and motor and I really think he’s that type of player. His absolute ceiling is Dirk who can attack the hoop from time to time, but I’m not sure that’s in the cards. Not every players reaches their ceiling, especially if health is an issue.

Right now if I had to make a comparison (sorry Tommy) I see Gallo as a multi-dimensional (better) Peja. A Peja that could play some D, attack the rim and snag a few boards.

  • CircleLimit4

Good point. Lebron entering free agency would have a lot more to do with him being discontent with the Cavs than an infatuation with Gallo. I’m sure he’s keeping tabs on Danillo and that’s fantastic for us, but I bet he’s doing the same with Chandler, Douglas, Lopez, Douglas-Roberts, Derek Rose, etc.

  • bgstunna

i definitely agree with the fact that he has a lot of room to grow on the offensive end aside from shooting the long bomb, especially in breaking down defenses but i am very impressed with how he is playing defense. That block on Almonson was straight fyre.

  • HaS

That’s much more realistic Mucha. Ginobli in his prime was impossible for defenders to stay in front of. Uh… Gallinari, not so much.

  • HaS

LOL! If he is truly “monitoring” Gallinari do you want a player who is looking at the next team’s players instead of doing everything he can do to take his playoff lock of a team as far as possible THIS season?

I think people are making too much out of him telling a rookie/young player “good game” and/or showing respect for that player’s game. It happens all the time. If it is as much of a big deal as most of you are making it out to be, then I question his overall focus as far as basketball and his own team.
