Merry Christmas Game Thread

by Tommy Dee on December 25th, 2009 at 10:55 am

Merry Christmas and hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. In looking at today’s key points, I’ll defer to the great Heat blog peninsulaismightier.

  • After starting the season losing 14 of their first 17 games, the Knicks are 8-3 in the month of December.
  • New York will be wearing their very weird green jerseys and the Heat will be wearing red.  Ho Ho Ho.
  • The Knicks lead the league in appearances on Christmas.  This will be #45.
  • D-Wade has taken just 21 free throws in his last 5 games (15-for-21).

In their first matchup the Knicks fell asleep at the end of the half. And their defense was pathetic allowing for the Heat to make 25 of 30 shots at one point. This, of course, seems to be a different Knick team defensively, it all depends on how they handle Wade all afternoon.

Check out our friend Eric Snow and NBA-TV’s pregame thoughts.

    100-93
    Knicks!!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Bring our A-game today – Bron Bron is watching before his game w/ Kobe. Need to impress – even though most of the team will not be back next year. Go Gallo – show you can be a second or third option to the King.

  • itzyung1

    Happy Holidays Guys!!
Hopefully We Can Get a W today. Right Now we look Flat Though bout time to get Al in there.

  • Mucha

Gallinari’s doing exactly what the ESPN analysts were saying. Get into the paint daymn, you’re in a slump Gallo.

  • Mucha

He needs to stop shooting so many 3′s. He’s a streaky shooter and he needs to find a way to get easy buckets. Beasley’s a more versatile scorer that’s why he’s a better player right now.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

You’ll get no argument from me on that point – of course Beasley is better right now – never said he was not.

  • Mucha

I know, it was just an observation.

  • Mucha

He finally attacked the basket, made 2 FT’s, got into a rhythm and hit the following 3. He needs to follow this logic more often.

  • bartnyk

We could use Nate right now

  • bartnyk

    WHeres the defense Lee

  • DatNewYorker

Thats the only reason why he wont be a ALLSTAR ever in his career. He is just a spectator on defense. Lets go Knicks

  • blackwood

    MERRY XMAS GUYS!!

We are not even playing well and we are right in this game, 2nd half we need to come out guns blazing and get a dominant win! No pull ups everything to the hole first then a kick out if need be. Gallo could have been to the line 6 to 8 times already MD needs to tell him to drive off a pump fake because his rep is as a shooter! they also need to run that damn pick and roll with Gallo diversify what you do with him MD!!

Chandler needs to get back to that whirling layup push shot he takes when he drives, when he has that going he is a beast. Harrington needs to go at Beasly more with the drive and get to the line (keep your head up on the drive Al)

  • DatNewYorker

Why is it that we had to get the fat unheathy piece of trash Qrich and miami get an athlete. He makes me sick to my stomach.

  • bartnyk

    Two words – Contract Year

  • bartnyk

Can we get Nate in the game for some scoring jeez

  • DatNewYorker

    DUHON IS THE WEAKEST LINK

  • Mucha

    Duhon is absolutely terrible tonight.

What about Lee’s lack of D? He’s playing really well offensively but his lack of D is irritating.

  • bartnyk

PG position is so important on this team we need Bayless

  • bob go knicks

DUHON!!!!!! man does he stink!full court bad passes,3pt shots with only 5 sec.off the shot clock, bounce passes that dont bounce!they just skip accross the floor til the ball hits someone on the foot…..RAMON SESSIONS!A MERE 4MIL.

  • Knicks4life

    Nah two words “winning culture”.

  • itzyung1

    How about one word Motivation..
Dude was traded 4 times this off season I think. He got in the Gym to prove he is better than that. To me he is the same Q Rich just in shape now.

  • Knicks4life

Lol. Where are all of those guys that say Duhon is a suitable PG gaurd. We are in winning in spite of his pitiful play not because of it.

I hope you guys are not watching this game through your Gallo colored glasses so you can see what we were saying the last thread. Gallo is a fine player, but he is not at Beasley’s level, at least with all around game. Beasley is such a good offensive rebounder too.

Gallo needs to get hot. Duhon needs to sit.

  • Mucha

The Knicks either need to play Nate Robinson or trade for Jerryd Bayless. I’m not a huge Nate Robinson fan but you can’t tell me that his offense wouldn’t help us in this game.

Duhon doesn’t even create opportunities for his teammates, he has been terrible tonight. The same goes for Al Harrington.

Can’t we get some easy buckets?

  • Knicks4life

Harrington takes such bad shots, I don’t understand why Nate gets punished and Harington goes punishment free.

  • Knicks4life

Can we get Chandler some electro shock therapy to get his heart beating again. What the hell is he doing out there? Cmon man use your altheticism to make a play.

Terrible call. THis is why we need a superstar so we can get bull calls at the end fo qtrs to get to the line.

  • bartnyk

We need someone who can create off the dribble, everything is dribble hand off then in the post to Lee for a quick jumpshot. I’d like to see what McGrady could do on this team.

  • Mucha

David Lee stat-padding for rebounds lol.

Jonathan Bender will fall out of the rotation in a couple of weeks. He’s a liability on the floor when he’s not hitting shots. A liability. And what is Al Harrington thinking? He doesn’t play D, he doesn’t pass the ball, all he’s trying to do is shoot, shoot, shoot… again and again. He’s 3 of 16 with 0 assists. 16 shots and 0 assists! Larry Hughes and Chris Duhon bring nothing to the table, there’s NO reason to bench Nate Robinson in this game from a pure basketball standpoint.

  • itzyung1

    Kneejerk

  • bartnyk

What doers that have to do with Q rich getting in shape.

  • NoVaCaInE

I totally agree. Nate should be in the game. The Knicks need scoring. Boy is Mike stubborn!!!

  • NoVaCaInE

There goes Lee giving up more pts in the paint. I hope dave the rave is watching…

  • Knicks4life

I just saw for the first time the footage of Nate shooting at the wrong basket. That is inexcusable. I would have been pissed off too.

D’Antoni is going to do it his way but this is a game and team that Nate would probably have made the difference in. Team just can’t score.

  • Knicks4life

Lee needs to learn how to box out.

  • bartnyk

Welcome back to earth Knicks fans.

  • bartnyk

I’m def down for making some trades I hope DW is too.

  • J_Starks3

When Gus Johnson gonna call a tv knicks game. He is my favorite. This lady ESPN has sounds like she has been watching our team recently.

    WHERE IS GUS!!!!!

  • Knicks4life

D Wade but especially Pat Riley would not tolerate a player like Q Rich (the knicks version) being on their roster. That is what a winning culture does. Stars hold their teamates accountable (remember Kobe calling out Shaq; Bradon Roy calling out his teamates) and forces mediocre players to be better than what they are and not become fat lazy Eddie Currys (my new synonym for useless slob).

  • bartnyk

The “Allstar” is on the bench in crunch time.

  • bartnyk

    AL did get fouled though

  • BiggieSmalls

does anyone doubt now that the rise and fall of this team is directly correlated with the play of Duhon??

  • Knicks4life

There is such a double standard in this league is it just infuriating. Granted I didnt’ hear what Harrington said, but Kobe, Lebron, D Wade and the other “stars” do so much more to the offials to show them up than what Harrington did and don’t get techinical fouls in the fourth qtr of a close game. Harrington was clearly fouled as was Hughes the possesion before, no call, and then to add insult to injury, gets hit with a technical foul.

As I said above, this is why the Knicks need a star.

  • bartnyk

    PG position is most important.

  • Mucha

Honestly Gallinari’s the only Knick playing with a little bit of intensity right now.

David Lee : Stat-padding for rebounds isn’t getting it done. Especially against Dwyane Wade. His lack of D is inexcusable.

Jonathan Bender : He’s worse than useless when he’s not hitting shots. The fairy tale will soon be over.

Al Harrington : 4-17 FGA and 0 assists.

Wilson Chandler : Thinking about his Christmas presents?

Larry Hughes and Chris Duhon : …

Mike D’Antoni’s coaching is not the problem tonight (well, Nate Robinson should be playing but that’s another question), the players are just not playing well. The Michael Beasley-Danilo Gallinari match-up is exciting though, both Beasley and Gallo are showing All-Star potential tonight.

  • Knicks4life

Yes I doubt it, I think this team wins “in spite of” Duhon.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

    3s just didn’t drop today – that’s about it

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

If Gallo wants to be 2nd or 3rd option on a Bron led team – he cannot pass that on that 3 attempt – Chandler improving trade value here at the end

  • Knicks4life

He is struggling from 3 but this is one of the best games I have ever seen Gallo play.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

That’s what I’m talking about – take the 3!!! Gallo!!!!!

  • Knicks4life

Harrington passed the ball!! Harrington passed the ball!!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Needed that defensive rebound – ugh!!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Terrible shot by Chandler – appears to be game – needed that defensive rebound earlier – oh well – good showing on national TV – kind of – hope we did not embarrass ourselves w/ Bron watching

  • run-tmc

    Harrington = 0 for 7 from 3.

  • run-tmc

    Well, you got Miami right.

  • bartnyk

    Gallo was 1 for 8

  • TG

A coach whose idea of analysis is ‘need to make more shots’.

Horrible, horrible point guard, and no center.

    And those refs. OMG.

  • TG

Bender is becoming a black hole on offense, he needs to pass.

  • HaS

I think getting traded like a hot potato over the summer motivated him to get into shape also. However, when he came to camp Riley asked him to get into even better shape than he already had.

  • Showstopper232

I just wish chandler would realize how good he can be! his bball IQ is very low, but i think he can be developed into a very special payer! we need some better assistant coaches especially a better big man coach!!

  • blackwood

Gus father died so he is on a break.

  • blackwood

See guys why I make an issue of having a guard who can create one on one and in turn open up the floor for his team, that is why I say the draft picks have been blown not because the guys are trash but because this is a game that starts and ends with guard play! Even the SF that are superstars are really super sized guards.

Lets hope the Hornets really stink it up all the way to the trade deadline and then hope they will take Hill TD Chandler JJ and a future pick for CP3!!

(wishful thinking but a man can dream lol)

  • HaS

Players looking tired could be contributing to making mental mistakes late in games, settling for long jumpshots and playing defense with their hands.

96 minutes in the backcourt only 54 given to actual GUARDS and 2/3rds of that going to Duhon, they won’t play well for long if that keeps up (one could argue we’re already seeing that), I’ve ben saying it for 10+ games now. Granted, it’s just 1 game and 1 loss, but mark my words if this doesn’t change soon players will break down. It started with Hughes and Duhon certainly will be next (haven’t we all seen this movie before?).

Gallinari looked good, he’s getting more aggressive. Passing on that 3 at the end of the game was dumb, they needed that shot. I would like to see a just a couple more rebounds from him in 43 mins (that’s a lot of mins and he’s 6’11), but that’s nitpicking. Same goes for Chandler (2 boards in 38 mins isn’t cutting it), but he’s been moved into the backcourt to make up for not playing Nate I guess.

They’re still nearly tripling up opponents on triple attempts on a nightly basis. I hate this coach: “We’re just not hitting enough of ‘em (threes)” FOH. Get a clue, but a vowel, do something.

Slowing down the offense and not shooting early in the clock has helped them stay competitive while keeping opponents within striking distance for most of the “hot” streak.

Lee’s game winner (essentially) in the last game (with a jumper no less) and clutch free throws were impressive, so was his ugly half hook, half jumper, half floater near the end of this game. His defense? Not so much. How do you get 5 fouls at the center position and none of them be memorable? Put someone on their posterior just once.

    Bender: Meh…

Harrington was Harrington (why isn’t this guy being benched again?)

Hughes, I guarantee you is still hurt.

    Merry X-Mas.

  • HaS

    Sidebar:

Chandler’s no look pass to Lee under the basket was nice! The broadcasters only focused on Lee’s hands, but that was a slick dime.
