Wade: I don’t think about the Knicks

by Myles A. Mills on December 26th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Via NY Post:

“I don’t ever think about the possibility of joining the Knicks,” Wade said after the game. “I think of the possibility of the summer. It’s going to be a very tough summer thinking about where my future will be.”

“I’m here now,” Wade said. “It’s cold.”

When asked if he figured the Knicks a top destination for free agents, Wade added, “It depends if they’re looking to be here. A lot of people are happy with where they are. New York is a great, great place, but it depends on if the player is looking to leave.”

I really don’t mind Wade’s disinterest, because for me, it’s mutual.  He’ll end up staying in Miami and luring Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer to the Heat.  In my eyes, he’s too injury-prone and too old to offer a long term max contract.  It will be hard for Wade to continue to average 25+ points late in his career because of  his style of play.  Plus, as Pat Riley noted, Wade’s efficiency has dropped immensely this year.  His field goal percentage has gone from 50% to 43.5% and he shoots 25% from three.  He’s a superstar, but signing him to a long term deal could backfire in the long run.

About Myles A. Mills

Myles is a sophomore at The Browning School, an all-boys private school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He's been a Knick fan as long as he can remember, and 02-03 was the last season he could remember in entirety. He hopes to one day see the Knicks in the playoffs. Myles is also fond of the Mets, and follows them vehemently, but his the bulk of his time goes to the Knicks. Myles wants to be a radio hosts on WFAN or ESPN 1050 radio, and he hopes to write for theknicksblog.com for years to come. View all posts by Myles A. Mills →

He would also be the best player the knicks had since the 70′s.

Dwyane Wade is the greatest player in Heat history, I’d love to see him play for the Knicks obviously but why should he leave Miami and sign with the Knicks considering the fact that : A. Danilo Gallinari isn’t (a priori) more talented than Michael Beasley B. Dwyane Wade was drafted by the Heat and will get his jersey retired in Miami?

I’d much rather see the Knicks with LeBron James, Danilo Gallinari and a FA play against the Heat with Dwyane Wade, Michael Beasley and another FA in the playoffs. This rivalry would be great for the NBA (watch what you’re saying Sheridan!!).

I disagree having Lebron and Wade along with Lee and Gallo we would foul out most centers with Lebron and Wade and get rebounds from Lee and Gallo from outside we would be unstoppable.

  • Myles A. Mills

for the first couple years. then when his body deteriorated the knicks would be in a terrible situation.

Obviously for a three year deal it would be a great move, but a long term max deal wouldn’t be wise.

I can’t pretend that I wouldn’t love Wade as a Knick. Though not to the extent Wade currently does, Kobe used to lay his body on the line a lot. He realized he wasn’t getting younger and perfected his midrange and outside game. Kobe will still charge the lane from time to time, but not nearly as much, limiting the chance for leg and foot injuries. Wade also has a gorgeous jumper and can easily hit off the dribble. I think he’s smart enough to mold his game around jumpers and leaners as he gets older, like Kobe did.

But I can’t imagine him coming here. He’s got Beasley, to a lesser extent Chalmers, a good young coach, cap space and a franchise he knows is capable of bringing a championship caliber team. Not to mention that Miami is no Cleveland.

I love Wade’s game, i love his toughness, ans i love his demeanor on the court. but he is not coming to NY. and Lebron will not join him in Miami.

Lebron will end up in NY or Clev… no doubt about it, in my mind…

The McGrady vs. Houston situation is getting juicy. With that and the debacle in Portland I am assuming DW is trying to decide where to go right???

  • bartnyk

Im sure in a few years all the talk of D Wade will be what if he didn’t get injured I don’t want the Knicks to sign him only based on that.

  • Dylan

Come on guys lets not devalue Wade. I think anybody on here would be estatic if we signed him. He is a definite top 5 player in this league, and maybe even a top 3. I say the best 5 players are Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Melo, and CP3.

I think its safe to say that we would all rather Lebron, but there is a very good chance he won’t sign with the Knicks. If we can’t sign Lebron, adding Wade and Bosh would easily make us a top 5 team in the league. Even just adding Wade would make us immediate contenders.

Wade is probably going to stay in Miami, but he could still end up a Knick. He has probably been asked about joining the Knicks hundreds of times, and wanted to let it be known that that wasn’t his only option in free agency. Its probably a good thing he said that, because if he said he was interested in New York, the media never would have let up with the Wade to the Knicks speculation. Maybe now people can shut up and just see what happens. Nobody knows what Wade and Lebron want accept for those two individuals.

  • bob go knicks

I dont sign anyone who has a history of injury. With the Knicks luck, the first day that they sign Lebron to a ma 5 year pact,he’ll break his leg throwing rosin dust up in the air or trip and fall over an imaginary tri-pod,while taking fake team photos

    Exactly What I was Thinking.

Ill say that despite Wade’s threating injuries, I would still of course welcome the Knicks signing him. I remember reading somewhere that Wade and Penny Hardaway had very similar games played over their first few seasons. Even though I know Wade loves Miami, I don’t understand how he or any other true superstar could really love playing there. Wade can not like playing in front of a half full arena every night. Even though Cleveland as a city is not as good as Miami, at least their fans bring it every night and bother showing up for games. The same can’t be said for Miami. As for Chalmers, personally I think he is overall a terrible fit with Wade, as of course Wade is the true pg and really needs a similar player to the Derek Fisher, Jason Williams mold that can hit open 3′s, which Chalmers really struggles with. I dont know, it will be interesting to see but I would not at all be surprised if both Lebron and Wade left their teams.

  • x-man

Forget about Wade and Lebron! I have this feeling we will be seeing Tracy McGrady soon!

Although a Lebron surely would make Gallo a star on the rise.

I’m seeing McGrady and Camby after all the dust settles. I’ll let Biggiesmalls put the numbers together to see if it’s workable. lol

  • Knicks4life

Myles are you insane. I know you are diehard knick fan but just because Wade sorta dissed us now he would not be a good signing. Isn’t this breaking down argument the same thing everybody said about AI early in his career? Guess what AI never broke down.

And just for informational purposes Wade has played in every game this year and only missed three last year. That is more than Chris Paul, and Melo and the same as Dwight Howard over the past 2 seasons. Lebron and Kobe are just freaks and never miss games but Wade has been healthy. You also can’t really count the year before because Pat Riley was benching Wade to get better draft position after their horrendous start. They did the same to Marion. No way NY would regret siging Wade.

    Crazy man, crazy.

  • Myles A. Mills

No, he’s 28 (in January) and signing him to a seven year deal may backfire. You’re exaggerating what I said. My point is that Wade is a great player but he’s hurt a lot and three years older than Lebron. I don’t see how that’s crazy.

  • Knicks4life

Perhaps I did exaggerate slightly but Wade gives you an almost guaranteed playoff birth by himself and with a 1A player next to him a chance to win a championship every year for the next five years. Perhaps years six and seven you will be overpaying but it is worth it for the those first five years. And who knows maybe Wade will continue to be MJ type great into his mid-30s.

  • x-man

I do get your pt but under D’Antoni system, Wade could play for 20 years since he only has to put out on offense.

Our Knicks backing off Wade for the reasons you describe is like the Mets backing off Vladimir Guerrero due to his back issues.

If our Knicks get a chance to grab Wade, they should grab , grab , grab and not flinch!

  • hydro

Lebron, Wade, Lee and Gallo? Did they recently raise the salary cap to $80 million? But you’re right, that would be a very good team lol. Why stop there, we should sign Bosh too. He could be our center. Maybe even Boozer as a back up. Who knew…I can type while I dream lol
