The Nets looked good tonight. Brook Lopez is an all-star talent who dominated the game in the paint. Yi Jianlian, who recently returned to the lineup, looked very good tonight posting up. The Nets guards outplayed the Knicks’ guards. On the other side, turnovers put the game away in the fourth quarter for the Knicks.
Despite a 4th quarter surge, Gallo looked a bit off tonight. Despite a strong start, Duhon looked off in the final three quarters. Aside from Lee, who had another spectacular game, it did not seem like this team had it tonight.
The bottom line is that on the second half of a back-to-back, sometimes teams will come out flat. The Knicks fell victim tonight. Also, the Nets have a talented team, despite having only three wins. They shot the ball well tonight and played crisply for the most part. Good for them. They came out and beat the Knicks. This was not a game that will leave the Knicks kicking themselves or feeling like they let one get away.
Tough loss, but in my opinion, every loss is a tough loss. The Knicks need to rest on their day off tomorrow and then come out strong.

I said from day one I liked Lopez over Gallo. Oh well….
5 Moe’s can’t beat two times 7 feet.
David Lee’s numbers look great, but what that statline won’t show you is the monogrammed invitations NJ had all night to score in the paint as much as they wanted.
Dude’s defense is just awful. Brook Lopez outplayed him tonight. It was a very entertaining game though. On the positive side, Lee’s turning into a fantastic passer. I think he’ll have at least 2 triple doubles before the end of the year. Nice game by Chandler too. He’s really been playing well lately.
Gallo once again, struggled to stay in front of CDR. His future is definitely at the 4. He should not be guarding 3s.
Oh and..Knicks could’ve used Nate tonight!
Lee is just scratching the surface of what he’s going to become. With his leadership, that tireless work ethic and tenacious, hardworking, hustling attitude he hits the floor with every night the sky is the limit. 10 million would be a bargain to have him on the team.
I think they should stop having him waste energy running down to the defensive end of the floor just to stand around. He’s already doing so much already. He’s got the whole team on his back already. Lee will lead the Knicks back to respectability singlehandedly. I predict his #42 jersey will be the next to be raised into the rafters.
what are your thought on duhon knicks career
do u think his number will be retired as a knick?
Duhon will be Stockton to Lee’s Malone. Hopefully the Knicks are able to keep him as he is definitely one of the top point guards in next year’s free agent class, which may be one of the deepest in NBA history.
He manages a game with expert precision, doesn’t turn the ball over and is a marksman from outside the arc.
His stroke is so deadly that he needs to rise up from at least 4 feet behind the line just to make it fair for the rest of the league.
i just died HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! LMFAOOOOOOOO
thanks for your thoughts
that was a really good post on duhon.
for a second I thought he was serious. LOL
Lee has no business being responsible to defend the paint and it ain’t fair that D’A is making that his job. He is not a center. Lopez is a load for him.
Centers are not the sole responsible for defending the paint.
That says it all, Chris.
Yi has finally arrived. Wondering what took so long.
Any idea why Hughes is playing so poorly? He must have an injury.
Bender is also looking like a zero. A 7-footer playing 25 feet out seems stoopid to me. I don’t understand D’A's aversion to planting a big man on the low post. WTF?
DTR
if danni boy could build a team of all guards he would
My observations from the game;
- I am afraid that this is the start of the 7 players or less catching up to everyone’s legs. I blame the coach.
- If anyone tells you that they saw this game coming from Yi they are lying!!! The one knock on his game IMO was that he was soft and today we did not see that.
- David Lee continues to make his case for the all-star game and I don’t see a reason why the coaches won’t select him.
- I don’t care if Chris Duhon hits 20 3 pointers in a row. When the game is on the line I don’t want him taking the shot. Period!!!
- JJ keeps forgetting that he has a nose and that he should be able to breath through it. CLOSE YOUR MOUTH JJ PLEASE!!!!!
- Why Toney Douglas didn’t get more minutes is beyond me.
- Gallinari was the hot hand in the fourth and the ball handlers failed to identify that.
- Again, like I always say, this coach is a fraud and I hope DW is using him as a bargaining chip to lure LBJ then FIRE HIM!!!!
Go Knicks.
Good points. I like the “7 players or less” phrase. Crafty…
Yi has arrived after 4 games? Not so fast.
Lopez would never fit in this system. He’s slow, he has predictable post moves, he’s skilled but every time he plays a good center he shoots something like 6/15. And I watch him often. Gallo is a lot better fit, believe me.
Great post, Chris. A loss is a loss, and we ALL knew this game had loss written all over it. Fatigue, Nets playing better ball, and Jared Jeffries foul trouble vexed the Knicks.
9-6 in December though.
Brook Lopez is slow, but he beat our bigs to loose balls, and was flying over them for alley oops? I disagree. He’s not slow at all. He’s not Dwight Howard, but he’s not slow.
I love how it’s ok for Gallinari, a SF to be slow in this system, but a 7 footer has to be fast.
Mike D’Antoni won 58 games with Kurt Thomas in the middle in Phoenix, so I think Brook Lopez would’ve been just fine here. Lopez is bigger and better than Thomas at everything. He’s faster, a better, more versatile scorer, and can block shots. Basically, exactly what we need at the 5 right now.
And his jumper is light years ahead of where Lee’s (All-Star, future HOF’er and potential 2011 All-Star Weekend 3-Point Contest winner) was in his 2nd year.
Brook Lopez’s jump shot is light year ahead of David Lee’s? Simply not true. You obviously don’t watch Lopez.
Coming from somebody who watches a lot of Lopez, he’s Zydraunas Ilgauskas reincarnated.
Against good big men, he always comes up short.
Al Jefferson: 2/8
Dwight Howard: 3/8
Dwight Howard: 1/12
David Lee: 5/12
Nene: 1/4
Pau Gasol: 6/16
Roy Hibbert: 8/23
If you’re going to make him seem like an all-star or so much better than Lee, the stats don’t lie.
If you think Brook Lopez fits in this system, then you don’t get the system. D’Antoni already said Eddy Curry doesn’t fit in this system. I know Brook Lopez is skilled, but he’s not athletic or explosive, and his post moves are slow and predictable. There’s absolutely no flair to his game. TONS of nets fan will tell you that. He’s a slow and methodical big man, which can be a good thing because he’s putting up 19 and 9 at 21 doing that, just not in this system.
I know you’re young Myles so I’ll forgive you.
I said his jumper is light year’s ahead of where Lee’s was in HIS 2nd year.
Reading Is Fundamental.
No shots.
Peace.
not true…. have you seen lee lately, he does not miss. NOT TAKING ANYTHING ANYWAY FROM LOPEZ…. he is a phenomenal talent.
Again, READ above.
No shots.
Oh this is Lee’s 5th year btw, if you didn’t know with watching the Nets and all.
“The Nets guards outplayed the Knicks’ guards.”
Don’t you mean guard?
NBA Backcourt = 1 Point Guard + 1 Shooting Guard = 2 Guards
NBA Game 48 Mins x 2 = 96 mins.
Duhon – 37 mins.
Hughes – 14 mins.
Douglas – 7 mins.
37 + 14 + 7 = 48 mins.
96 – 48 = 48
Math 101.
There is literally no guard rotation.
Hughes is playing hurt.
Douglas is a rookie getting 6-8 mins. a night.
Duhon is a career backup playing superstar mins..
Wait until Duhon breaks down. Again.
LMAO my math is off. I’m tired. Have a headache, a torn labrum and hate taking pain killers.
37 + 14 + 7 = 58
96 – 58 = 38
are you taking anything good?
Chandler is the SG, did u notice?
Chandler is as much a SG as Nate is a PF.
How do u explain the lineup that won 9 games this month:
Chandler
Gallo
Lee
Jeffries
Duhon
What position is Chandler playing if not shooting guard? If u say that’s 4 forwards and a guard I’ll buy that. Who’s guarding the other teams’ SGs?
“If u say that’s 4 forwards and a guard I’ll buy that.”
Look at that, I didn’t even have to say it.
Chandler matches up well and has an advantage over most SGs. Seriously, with him on the floor with 3 other Knick forwards how is he hurting the team? Some swing men do well and he seems to be.
He has no handle. Again he is not a guard. I like Chandler, he may be my favorite player on the Knicks right now. He might be “basketball dumb” as a rock, but I like the kid. He’s got a chance to be very good, not great, but very good.
i think it’s obvious
JEFFRIES is the shooting guard
i wanna meet you. you have some of the funniest blog comments ive seen.
If Da Gawd rents out the Garden and sells tickets, count me in.
Yeah we should have a TKB night out…. Let’s rent out the Garden and give Da Gawd a mic. Then we should just all stand back, listen, and enjoy.
Git er done!
We should do that when LeBron signs with the Knicks! Or even better when _’antoni brings the Knicks a championship. Er… maybe we should go with the former rather than the latter, I think that’s a better possibility.
hey can someone please explain to me what mike sees in bender… honestly i would kill to see hill playing over this bum. i would love to even see the big guy playing over bender. all he does is drive and turn the ball over… he is one of the most clumsy unathletic players i have ever seen, he is horrible. get him out of here. and can you PLEASE PLAY NATE ROBINSON! come on, what the hell is mike thinking… you cannot play duhon all of these minutes, he sucks as it is, and will suck even more because he will break down come february. i love mike, but come on… not a bright thing to play duhon esp. all of these minutes becasue we saw last year what happened when he logged all of those minutes. please play toney more too.
This couldnt be more correct. Bender is useless. I feel like Isiah was behind this. It is a great story that he was able to fix his knees and come back to the NBA. I am happy to have him on the team, and he gets paid nothing. the question is why is he taking every single second that hill could have? Even if Hill is a loser like he appears to be at least play him to see what we can get from him (or for him). out of control.
Any news on T-mac? as good as jj is we gotta do anything to get rid of at least one of those two famous contracts.
news flash
donnie isn’t running ish
he calls zeke all the time..
lmao! You’re just killing me reading your post this morning! I do think your heavily exxaggerating when you state that D’Antoni would have won 10 games in a month coaching th Bulls when they had MJ! lol You’re too kind!
Luckily I missed this trainwreck tonight but I was getting updates and saw Gallo get hot, and then seemingly didn’t get another shot or touch the ball in the 4th. Typical. Duhon just flat out sucks, and its ridiculous to watch Hughes get minutes when he is this bad and to have Douglas barely play. This was a perfect game to use Nate, but of course thats out of the question. And why is Bender playing??? Please play Hill, I beg you Dantoni. Such typical Knicks right there, one step forward two steps back. But I was wondering?? How do the Nets only have 3 wins? They seem so much more talented than the Knicks its insane. I don’t get it.
They had injuries and now they don’t have a coach. Well Del Harris will try his best but still………….
point taken.. astonishing 6 plyus one man roation on a back to back..
just mind boggling..
what do the pom pom wavers have to say about this rotation now/?
It’s stoopid on back-to-backs. But D’A does not want to play TD or JH much because they don’t get the offense. TD was lost 2nite. D’A does not want to train the rooks so early in the year. That’s the way it is.
Hughes and and Duhon seem to be breaking down. D’A will have to drop his rigidity soon. The Knix are 1 more injury away from being ugly again.
Dolan should buy out N8 and Curry now and get on with things. Them sitting on the bench stinks mighty bad.
The short rotation actually worked this month. Time will tell if it continues to work for us. I guess we will have to reevaluate this after the month of January. I agree that they looked exhausted at the end of the game yesterday. That worries me, but it was only one game. Let’s see what our record is after January. They are professional athletes. They may actually be able to handle it. We’ll see.
oh and I prefer the label kool aid drinker to pom pom waver btw. I assume you prefer the term hater over crybaby?
realist is more accurate.
And history has shown you simply can not play 6 for near 40 minutes a nite and be successful.
** for 82 games and a playoff run..
ah ok you like to call people names, but don’t want people calling you names. I understand. What’s a person like that called again? I think it starts with an H
Hydr0?
seriously.. address the statement.
history has shown you simply can not play 6 for near 40 minutes a nite and be successful for 82 games and a playoff run
even the 86 Celtics (with Bird, McHale, Parrish, DJ and Ainge starting ) ran Scott Wedman, Bill Walton and Sichting out there for 20 minutes a game.. and Greg Kite/Sam Vincent got 10 minutes a night on average..
I don’t think we can be compared to a team like that. The fact is that we are not very good. Our roster is sub par and they should not be able to make the playoffs.
Personally, I don’t think this coach is a likable person, which actually surprised me. But he made some major changes to the team since our horrid start and they seem to be working. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. He has our guys playing better than expected basketball and you have to give him credit for that.
the fact of the matter is that this coach has proven over his career that even if he had Bird, McHale, Parrish et all .. he would be playing them for 35 plus minutes a nite with another player getting 30 and MAYBE another 2 guys getting spot minutes (10 or under)
We are invested in this coach for now and calling him out for his nonsense short rotation is fair game..
If your argument is that we are not very good anyway then why NOT play Hill and Douglas (and Nate and Curry) for minutes so that we can both get them some experience and raise their values …
After all.. we really arent competing for anything this year anyway.. Just ask the GM.
Hydr0:
“ah ok you like to call people names, but don’t want people calling you names. I understand. What’s a person like that called again? I think it starts with an H”
BiggieSmalls:
“Hydr0?”
I nearly dropped my laptop. LOL!
I even have to admit that was pretty funny LOL
I left a lay up out there that even Jared Jefferies could hit and Biggie slammed it home. Nice work
??? 9-6 in the month of December would probably be the response to that. Again, Im not sure anyone really disagrees with you. The rotation is too small and he doesn’t do a good job of working more people in. It will come back to bite them later on when everyone breaks down. But this is simply put not a talented team. If Dantoni can keep putting together 9 win months, then he is doing a heck of a job in my opinion.
Lee’s stats over the last 5 games: 24p 15r 4a, on 67% shooting
I can live with his average defense with that kind of production.
If Lee’s defense was anywhere near average I’d say you were correct
Someone here mentioned he’s concentrating on rebounding.
