Alston Skips out of Jersey
“…The Heat are sending Chris Quinn and a 2010 conditional 2nd round pick to Nets for a 1.3 million trade exception, sources say…”
“…Rafer Alston has agreed to a contract buyout with the Nets.
Sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday that the Heat are the early favorite to sign the point guard after he clears waivers.
The Cavaliers and a number of other clubs are expected to show interest in Alston as well.
He was averaging 9.7 points and 3.9 assists per game with New Jersey…”
On the heels of the rumored deal offered to the Knicks of Alston and Battie for Nate and Darko. Interesting premise from the Nets. With the media storm in New York over some D’Antoni/Larry Hughes rift, it’s interesting that the Nets just let a player like Skip walk. Donnie Walsh is not in the business of buyouts but Rod Thorn is. The thing that gets me is that Alston has to have some value around the league, especially towards the trade deadline. I’m constantly curious why certain executives handle things certain ways. Alston was awesome in the playoffs last year. This would mean it is too tricky to make deals as we head into the 2010 summer.
I like Rafer a lot, but not at the expense of Nate for several reasons. Pass on that deal.
