Laying Down the Law? Or part of Bigger Talks?

by Tommy Dee on February 4th, 2010 at 10:47 pm

A source close to the situation just informed me that two teams have very recently inquired about the availability of Bobcats reserve guard Acie Law and that “one of them is definitely New York.” The other team is “an Eastern Conference team as well.”

The source also believes that “it’s pretty clear” Law will be on the move.

On the heels of our post about possible moves, to me, the Knicks interest in Law might just mean that a bigger deal is in the works, and as I’ve said since the Bobcats are trying to make a push, this may mean Jared Jeffries.

Obviously, there are complications in terms of matching salaries, and since D.J. Augustin is a name constantly being thrown out there may just be something brewing here. Maybe getting a third team involved.  As we know, the Knicks would have to make roster space in order to match a deal that included Jeffries.

Donnie Walsh has said repeatedly that he will only make a move at the deadline if a deal “makes the team better.” Adding Law, who has played minimal minutes, does not add up to that in my opinion, so that’s why there may be something bigger.

What would the Knicks want with a reserve guard who’s not much of an upgrade despite the fact that he is about to expire? What would they give up if it’s simply a 1 for 1?

Again, the Bobcats, having acquired Stephen Jackson, are not going to be players this summer, and they would want nothing more than to host several (if not more) home playoff games this postseason for revenue purposes.

Recently, the Knicks have been reportedly rumored to plan on trying to make a deal, big or small, if it helps them a) shed contract and b) make themselves better for a playoff push.

Stay tuned.

    Via Alan Hahn twitter…..

I know the Knicks are looking everywhere for options, but most people I talk to are not very optimistic they will be able to do anything.

    I hope he is wrong.

  • traps9

I’m really struggling to see how this can work. Jeffries/Douglas/Landry for Law/Henderson/Murray? Is Walsh gonna move JJ and TD/Hill and take back Diaw? I really don’t get this one…

  • DVJ

Well, well, well….what do we have here? Looks like DW is about to trim more payroll off next year. Is that a bad thing? Or a good thing?

Do you care more about the possibly of going to the playoffs this year and getting outed in the 1st round?

    Or

Do you care more about the future of this team starting this summer?

    Decisions Decisions Decisions

    LMAO!!!

    In Donnie We Trust!!

  • DVJ

If we get Henderson…..where I’m from we call that a steal!!!

    Cookies…..

  • barnaby8787

Alan Hahn brought up a good point on twitter. The knicks have no roster spots so it has to be multi-player/team. Acie Law, DJ Aug, and Ronald Murray for JJ, TD, and Landry works, but then again, I don’t see that great of a benefit from either end. Not even sure if JJ’s contract is worth that (can’t believe i’m saying this). I’m kind of wondering if boston still has interest in nate b/c a three-way deal would make sense. Once again though, I’m unsure if boston has the pieces to make it worthwhile to the knicks. If donnie sticks to his plan of only doing trades to better the team this year, I’m unsure as to how he can possibly trade JJ and others for scrubs…

  • barnaby8787

Also, the only player who I would want at this point on the cats is raymond felton, but DJ’s the odd man out and they need a starting point. God knows nate isn’t going back on brown’s team.

  • joeyballz

Rumors online also state that the Spurs are about to trade for a backup point guard..

  • x-man

Oh Yeah Playoff push! With the number of away games remaining and the schedule in general, it would take more than a push to get us in the post season!

Donnie, if you need to shred money so be it but spar us the bs about playoff this year. Next year is when you;re suppose to shine. If not, we’re gonna push your a-s-s out of MSG.

The bobcats aren’t going anywhere with JJ either!

  • barnaby8787

    Why? They have George Hill.

  • Knicks4life

Just buyout Darko, Bender or retire Mobley. Not that complicated to open up a roster spot.

  • DVJ

“Acie Law, DJ Aug, and Ronald Murray for JJ, TD, and Landry works, but then again, I don’t see that great of a benefit from either end.”

I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one Barnaby. I think the Cats getting JJ will make them better. A defensive player like Jeffries is a perfect fit for them. They’ll make the playoffs, win some games and maybe even go to the 2nd round but that’s stretching it a bit.

On the other hand, if the Knicks can get Murray and DJ…that would add some more offense and lord knows we need it.

Also in the above proposed trade we would still be saving around 5.5 million for next summer. Add that on to the money we already have and we’re looking at close to 30 million.

These next couple weeks should be very interesting.

  • barnaby8787

I agree, but I don’t know. I just feel like there needs to be more involved for DW to pull the trigger is all.

  • barnaby8787

Btw, I don’t like flip personally.

  • Knicks4life

“What would the Knicks want with a reserve guard who’s not much of an upgrade despite the fact that he is about to expire?”

Man Tommy have you seen Duhon play this year. Even if Law only gives you 10-15 min per game that would be a plus. There really is not much of a downgrade with any other PG in the NBA.

“Again, the Bobcats, having acquired Stephen Jackson, are not going to be players this summer, and they would want nothing more than to host several (if not more) home playoff games this postseason for revenue purposes.”

Everything I have read about the Bobcats indicate they are in financial trouble and are looking to sell the team. Do they really want to invest 7.5 mil in Jeffries. And give up a lottery pick just 2 years into his career? Not so sure about DJ Augustine for Jeffries.

  • DVJ

I wish there was a way we could peel Shannon Brown off the Lakers roster.

  • x-man

Imagine JJ chucking up a 3 on a Larry Brown team and then watch LB do his Fred Sanford imitation with hand over heart! I’d pay to see that though!

  • dino2008

Enough with the playoff crap. There is no way we are making the playoffs. Have you looked at our schedule for the up-coming months…. overall it is absolutley brutal.

  • x-man

    Dream on Grandson! Dream on!

  • barnaby8787

    ???

  • barnaby8787

Buying out darko at his full salary which he wants is pointless, bender isn’t leaving b/c him and dw have a bromance, and not that simple with mobley.

  • x-man

Duhon will be fine as a backup pt gaurd with 10-15 minutes. It takes that burden off of him and he can come out now and be that backup QB that gets praises because he isn’t in there long enough to f@#k up much!

Watch him excel at this role! No more indigestion and expectation from Duhon anymore.

  • Knicks4life

I don’t think we are going to make the playoffs but I would like to see the team play good basketball down the stretch. Bench Duhon, run some plays for Gallo and make him a legitmate 3rd option on a championship level team in 2010-2011, get Hill some meaningful minutes, and start Nate at least 20 games (give him a legitimate shot at being a PG).

Those are my goals for the rest of the season.

Trading Jeffries/Curry would make seeing Utah get that high lottery pick less painful too.

  • barnaby8787

Random but Pierce is in the 3-point contest…

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

How much money does a playoff round make them? or a 6 or 7 game series?

    they can make some noise.

  • DVJ

“Everything I have read about the Bobcats indicate they are in financial trouble and are looking to sell the team. Do they really want to invest 7.5 mil in Jeffries.”

Sure I think they would love to host a couple if not a few playoff games this year. That extra revenue from ticket sales, food, gear, parking and all the other things that come attached to playoff games would be good for them. That’s just my opinion.

“And give up a lottery pick just 2 years into his career?”

Now you know LB and how he treats young players. I’m not surprised at all to hear LB doesn’t want him there.

You know what’s really funny? There was a stretch this year where LB didn’t play the rookie Henderson for almost 10 straight games and not a peep about it. It wasn’t on realgm, it wasn’t on espn or any other website.

Things like that remind us of the type of media we have in NY and the power they have.

  • dino2008

100 percent agree with your post. I would add giving toney minutes too.

  • DVJ

    If Toney is here……..

  • DVJ

Curry is in it also. I’m predicting a Curry and Gallo finals.

Wow…Super Bowl this weekend and All Star next weekend.

February may be the shortest month but when it comes to sports, it’s certainly one of the better months.

  • ds2488

At this point I would have to say, that while Law is an upgrade over Duhon, its overall pointless with Douglas sitting on the bench. But the point doesn’t matter as long as we can get rid of Jeffries contract.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    thats the point
    of the sport
make the playoffs an then u never know

plus the franchise makes more money
thats why playoffs is a good thing even if the team gets sweep

  • Ray

I would love to see Augustine in a Knicks uniform. He’s a good shooter and can dish and get to the rim. That would be great. I really dont think our goal should be the playoff but 2010. We should be in full rebuild mode until then.

  • BluEandOrange

Donnie needs to decide who he is going to keep and who he is going to trade now. The players Walsh keeps, he needs to bring off the bench. Conversely, the players he wants to trade are the ones he must showcase in the starting lineup.

Depending on if Donnie wants a versatile swingman or a future PF, the starting lineup should be:

    N8 PG
Chandle SGr/Harrington if Chandler is retained
Jeffries SF/ PF (position depends on who -Gallo or Chandler – is kept)
Gallinari PF/Harrington if Gallinari is retained
    Lee C

The idea here is to exhibit the trade-able talent. It is becoming quite clear that if Jeffries or Curry are to be traded, Douglas/Hill, and either one of Chandler or Gallinari has to be dealt, especially for the latter.

There is a bias around the league that undervalues Knicks players, exemplified in the case of Chad Ford’s article on Jeff Foster. Just like the Mets farm system over the recent years, the Knick’s players are critically (and unfairly) scrutinized.

In order for the Knicks to relieve themselves of Jeffries or Curry, they are going to have to give up more. That is the way it is.

Donnie has to decide who to keep and who to trade because it is vital that he trade at least one of Jeffries and Curry if the Knicks are to even conceive the idea of signing two star free agents to max contracts this offseason.

Donnie must know and resign to the fact that he will have to lose some in order to gain some. You have to give a little to get a little. If Donnie can pull out a masterpiece and acquire a prospect PG as well, he’ll have pulled the rabbit out of the hat.

    Top acquirable Trades IMO
    1) Jerryd Bayless – Andre Miller isn’t going anywhere. With his huge contract Bayless will be stuck behind Miller and will certainly be unhappy with that role. Hill, Jeffries, and N8 for Bayless, Outlaw, and Howard?

    2) Spencer Hawes/Sergio Rodriguez – Jeffries, Chandler/Gallinari, and Hill for Hawes, Rodriguez, and Kenny Thomas?

    3) Chris Paul – This one would be huge. Paul is injured right now and his stock is down. You may ask, why would the Hornets trade Paul now if his stock is down? They would if the Knicks gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse. Curry, Chandler/Gallinari, Hill, Douglas, and N8 for Okafor, Paul, Ike Diogu, and Sean Marks. A starting lineup of Paul, Okafor, Jeffries, and Gallinari or Chandler would be an offensive wrecking crew in the East.

  • DVJ

” But the point doesn’t matter as long as we can get rid of Jeffries contract.”

    Amen brother!!

  • DVJ

Good post BluEandOrange, you had me until you just casually threw in Gallo along with Jeffries for S Rod and Hawes.

I don’t think Donnie would even entertain that trade.

The rest of your post was spot on though, I like Bayless game and I also think he’s being undervalued in Portland.

  • DVJ

Once again I want to stress this……if we can get Henderson that would be a steal!!

How doesn’t LB not like this kid? He’s athletic, he can score he’s a capable defender, he can shoot the jumper and he’s good with his back to the basket for his position.

Wow….LB must really have a low patience level or something. Not playing him almost 10 games straight is worse than MD not playing Jordan Hill IMO. Henderson can be and I think will be a very good NBA player.

  • starksoakmase

besides the Super Bowl, Feb Sux, maybe one of the worst sports months
Dog days of the NBA, no Baseball.

let’s see what donnie can make happen b4 this summer

  • JLS125

    +1

  • bob go knicks

seriously, what did walsh ever do that makes you say:IN DONNIE WE TRUST? i mean the guy is a sports exec.who has barely ever won anything.after crying year after year for our losing KNICKs,why would you give your trust and soul to a lyin cheatin GM type? NO SHOTS DVJ

  • bob go knicks

hes got a head screw loose

  • DVJ

    None taken Bob.

“seriously, what did walsh ever do that makes you say:IN DONNIE WE TRUST?”

He’s done exactly what he said he wanted to do. He said the plan was to get under the cap and he’s done it. He also said he wanted to be competetive. Now, before people say we’re not competetive I want them to ask themselves…were we competetive when Walsh took over and Isiah was still the coach? Have we been competetive in the last 10 years? Walsh has stayed the course and he’s stuck with his guns. He doesn’t allow the pressure of this city to force him into makiing a move the way Isiah did or Layden did

” i mean the guy is a sports exec.who has barely ever won anything”

He’s never won a Chip but he’s made it to the finals and he’s made the playoffs every year he was running Indiana. Those last few years they didn’t make the playoffs is when Bird took over and started making most of the decisions. Walsh was losing the power battle with the home town boy Bird and he decided to come home. That’s how I look at it.

People can complain about the team having a losing record and that’s fine because as a fan we have the right to do that…..BUT….as a fan, you have to respect what Walsh has done in regards to our salary cap situation. Less than 2 years ago we had the highest salary in the league by far and we had a bottom 5 team as far as wins and losses. Now we’re on the verge of a summer where we’ll have the most money to spend in free agency, we have 2 young prospects and a coach that everybody wouldn’t mind playing for except Hughes and Stackhouse.

Sounds like he’s done a pretty good job to me.

  • DVJ

I really want to see how Jordan Hill turns out.
Like I said yesterday, I would attach him to Jeffries just to move Jeffries but it’s starting to sound like we won’t have to. If we can keep Hill and bring in Augustine, Murray and Law for Jeffries, Douglas and Landry….come on man.

Now your looking at a young core of
    Gallo
    Chandler
    Augustine
    Hill
and the best part about it is this.

We’ll have the money to sign Lebron and David Lee at more than 10 million IF DONNIE WANTS 2.
If Donnie doesn’t want to sign Lee, he can go after another max player…..after renouncing Lee’s rights of course.

  • DVJ

You do realize that the all star game has already sold over 100,000 seats to the game right?

When was the last time you heard of that many people being at any basketball game? You might have to go back to the Silverdome when the Pistons were winning those Chips.

All Star weekend is an extravaganza. People come from all over the world to experience it.

I’m a huge fan of the 3 point shootout, skills challenge, rookie sophmore game, dunk contest and the actual game.

    That’s just me

  • BluEandOrange

As I emphasized in the post, Donnie will have to give in more than usual to appease the anti-Knick sentiment around the league and the country.

Jeffries, Chandler OR Gallo, and Hill for Hawes, Rodriguez, and Kenny Thomas is deal that is obviously against the Knicks favor, but it at least accomplishes ridding the team of Jeffries and bringing LeBron AND Bosh/Johnson/Wade/Ginobili to the doorstep.

If Curry was to be traded to the Kings, it would take at least Gallinari/Chandler, Hill, Douglas, AND Nate.

  • BluEandOrange

Donnie is a tough guy to read. Don’t know if he’ll pull a rabbit out of his hat and trade for McGrady AND a PG such as an Augustin by trading away a Douglas or Hill to make the playoffs. The only logical reason for performing the aforementioned is to lure free agents by using the playoffs – if they make it – as leverage to remind them that winning in NY is the better than winning anywhere else.

Or, Donnie could do absolutely nothing.

  • bob go knicks

you dont think sticking with duhon for two seasons was a mistake?Last years draft picks?the Coach?in my opinion,he couldve gotten a lot more for ZACH,if he woulda had a little patience and waited.that cutino mobly thing was also boneheaded.how about helping out the fans that pay big money to watch the Knicks (last year and now) After next year,if he gets the job done hell get some respect from me,but he coulda done alot of things diff.and after all he is a SUIT

  • Mucha

Well no disrespect to Alan Hahn but he’s not the most accurate source of information.

  • Mucha

Donnie Walsh will NOT trade Gallinari in a salary dump.

Why trade a potential star PLUS a young guy like Hill for an hypothetical scenario the Knicks have no control over? That’s ridiculous. The Knicks have enough capspace for LeBron already, and they have enough “expiring” assets (David Lee and Nate Robinson in particular) to make something happen.

  • dogmanx23

I think Mcgrady is a knick IF houston can’t deal him anywhere. A trade with NY would save houston $5M and they pay no luxury tax. Keeping Mcgrady is just stupid, but if that owner wants to pay $8M in Luxury Tax that’s on him. A trade with NY will save the guy money and if he doesn’t want that that’s on him.

    Mcgrady/Cook for Hughes/Darko works

Now this Bobcats rumor… I will not believe they would trade Henderson but if Donnie can pull that off WOW..

Douglas/Jeffries/Landry for Henderson/Law/Flip would be steal of the year.

This is LB so as crazy as this sounds with LB you never know.

One thing people need to understand the players that have played for the knicks all these years might have sucked here, but when traded have gone on to be very important to that team.

Mohammod, Crawford, Zach, Kurt Thomas, Tim Thomas, Ariza, Q Rich, Frye etc etc.

Jeffries could be a perfect fit in Charlotte he fits what they want there and thats defense.

  • joetheknick

jeffries and landry for henderson, law and murray makes perfect sense to me. Charlotte will make the playoff if it continues to play well. LB needs a veteran big to help the team get wins. henderson and law are not on his agenda. Murray will give him 10 points but he takes minutes away from Stephen Jackson. Knicks need cap space desparately. MD can audition Henderson and Law for the rest of the season to see if either is an NBA player. Go for it.

  • k-hodge

I firmly believe that nearly any deal NY get’s done is gonna have to be a 3 way (or even 4)…David Lee/Jared Jeffries to PHX..Amare/Al Harrington to Miami
Jermaine O’neal to NY..That gives NY the ability offer Bron AND Bosh a max..Can you imagine the renewal of the HEAT/Knicks rivalry? Wade/Amare vs. Bron/Bosh? WOW..and PHX gets a cheap replacement for Amare in Lee and some defense. I think David Lee running the PNR with Steve Nash would be unstoppable.

    OR

GS gets – Amare/Marcus Landry (maybe a draft pick?), PHX gets: David Lee/Jared Jeffries/Speedy Claxton (expiring), NY gets Monta Ellis/Anthony Randolph…GS gets a stud to work with Curry, PHX gets a cheap replacement for Amare and some defense (and a wholeeeee lot of cap relief), NY gets some ballers and the ability to sign one max this summer..thoughts? (mind you, I did all of this before Amare’s fickle ass started talking about not opting out)..LOL

  • BiggieSmalls

Bob Johnson owns the Hornets.. He started Black entertainment network and sold it.

    he is a multi billionaire.

The bobcats have no money issues.

  • johneco

DVJ: I agree totally with everything you say here (except for dumping Hill to get rid of Jeffries). Walsh is a huge success so far.

  • johneco

Your emotion is clouding your judgement IMO, and you also have a poor memory

What better PG was available for that low price?
Zach was considered untradeable – remember? It’s 20-20 hindsight to think we could have gotten more.
Aren’t all GMs suits? So you hate all of them, and none of them are a success?
Finally, his moves are a success EVEN if we get noone this offseason. At least we have a chance, we are positioned properly. Who signs does not just depend on DW, he could do everything right and still noone comes, but that will not change that he did everything right.

  • johneco

Law is NOT an upgrade over Duhon, give me a break.
Law stinks, and is a borderline NBA player.
Duhon is at least a good backup.

  • johneco

Your trades are crazy. Unless we have an under the table deal with Lebron that depends on getting a 2nd max, you can’t trade away your young talent just to get rid of a player who’s deal expires the next year anyway.

  • johneco

Acie Law stinks, does anyone still think he has potential? He’s 25…

  • NoVaCaInE

k-hodge good to see you aboard. Now all we gotta do is find Dwayne T and Shakespeare lol. I like your vision but I don’t see how those deals benefit Phx. Why would they want Jared Jeffries? Also, I doubt they would want to do anything that helps Mike D’Antoni be successful in NY.

  • Knicks4life

Bob Johnson is only part owner and he is going through or just went through a divorce where his wife really cleanded up. But I agree, he doesn’t have money issues relative to the rest of us/the world.

But I’m just telling you what the news reports said. The Hornets were losing money and looking to sell and Jordan was trying to put a team together to take over full time ownership. I can’t verify the truth of it but those were the stories.

  • Knicks4life

“Law stinks, and is a borderline NBA player.”

Do does Duhon but at least Law is younger and may fulffill his potential. Duhon is getting worse, if that is even possible.

  • BobbyFromBK

I agree 100% Bob. To me, Walsh has made one bonehead decision after another: starting with hiring D’Antoni. I always said he jumped the gun on the Randolph and Crawford trades. He definetly got squat in return for Randolph. And took back Mobley even though he knew about the heart problem. That was a desperate move from weakness, not strength.

To me, the final answer is who can he bring in this summer. Let’s see if it’s Lebron, Bosh, Joe J., or bust?

  • Knicks4life

“He’s a good shooter and can dish and get to the rim.”

    He’s a good shooter?

  • Knicks4life

I would have no problem trading away Douglas.

We used a #8 pick on Hill. Tough to throw that away in a salary dump.

  • k-hodge

HA! What’s up Caine! Yeahhh I saw you and a few of the fellas made your way over here. I haven’t seen Shakes or Dwayne. But theres some fun over on Alan’s Knicks Fix FaceBook page also.

I know what you’re saying about PHX being hesitant. But if you think about it, Lee would be a very nice replacement for Amare over there, and CHEAPER. Like I said, Lee running the pick and roll with Nash would be virtually unstoppable. Jeffries would give them a little defensive flexibility and he’s not a long term commitment. and if Sarver is being cost conscious, that’s not a bad deal at all, maybe we throw in a 2nd rounder to sweeten it up?

  • Mucha

The Suns didn’t want to trade two potential franchise players (Stephen Curry and Anthony Randolph) for an UFA (Amare Stoudemire) on draft night which is logical so forget about it.

  • NoVaCaInE

I’ve chillin man. I’ve gotta check out Hahn’s FB spot. I would love to see the 1st trade scenario happen. I agree Phx won’t lose much with Lee replacing Amare (even though Amare is the better player). I just not know if they would want Jeffries at 6.88 next year. Btw, instead of creating a new comment just click reply to this comment. It’s easier to follow a debate this way.

  • NoVaCaInE

    *I’ve been chillin man.

  • Boots

Good idea, as long as Nate’s PG evaluation is partially based on him passing the ball to Gallo. Last game, Nate played the whole 2nd half, and Gallo got the ball almost solely from JJ or Hughes. In previous games, Coach sat Gallo as soon as Nate came into the game.

If Gallo doesn’t see the ball more, Nate isn’t the answer. And enough of the “Gallo has to move more” garbage. Gallo is extremely coachable. He stands out on the arc and switches to the weak side because that is what he has been told to do. Maybe his mistake is that he doesn’t ignore the coach and break the play the way Nate, Ai, and Hughes often do. This isn’t summer league or AAU U16 ball where coaching often solely consists of “Move and get open.”

Maybe the mantra has to be “Coach has to tell Gallo to move and make more cuts.” I don’t see why Gallo can’t be part of the P and R more often. Otherwise, try and trade Gallo to Utah for our first rounder back, let the kid play for a coach and a point guard who know how to get him the ball, and then let the Knicks tank, tank, tank.

  • starksoakmase

Your first trade sounds good, but only if you can get Bron AND Bosh. HUGE if. Not worth the gamble. Where are the knicks if that doesnt happen?

Second, I rather resign Lee then have Ellis. Lee will probably get a little less money, or no more then equal. Then of we cant get LBJ, Joe J is a nice consolation. Have JJ for 2010-11 season, hopefully make a little playoff run, then have 17 off the books to play with in summer 2011.

By 2011, if the knicks are not legit title contenders, the Donnie plan is a failure.

  • sabreschudge

You guys are all killing me, A trade that will work and that I think is going to go through is ACIE LAW, DJ AUGUSTINE, and GRAHAM, for Jared Jefferies. Knicks are going to have to clear some roster spots, but i figure they may be in the works for trading Hughes/Darko or Mobley/ and Walsh will chose to include TD for TMAC. This clears up roster spots and gives us Starters of DJ, Mcgrady,Wilson Chandler, Gallo, Lee, with Nate,Al, Hill, and either Graham or LAw depending on who Mike D likes better!

  • trenttucker

There is only one reason the Knicks want Acie Law, and it rhymes with “hex-tiring bong-rat.”

Amazingly, it appears teams are interested in Nate Robinson. We all must hope and pray Nate plays well over the next ten days. He might be able to rid us of Jared Jeffries’s contract.

  • johneco

OK I’ve only seen him play maybe 5-10 times, and maybe stinks is a bit harsh. But he’s a marginal NBA player so far.

He got a fair number of minutes his first 2 seasons. His minutes have been going down from the start due to poor production. His per minute stats are poor, w/ maybe 5 ast and 10pts per 40 with bad %, and have not improved at all over 3 years.

As a PG prospect there’s basically not one thing that he’s better than avg at (except maybe his height). He’s a combo guard without much athleticism or outside shot, and at 25 I don’t see him improving much.

are you kidding, you dont need to trade nate to get rid of jared jefferies contract…I honestly believe there is much more buyers on jefferies then people believe but that DW is just waiting. Waiting to see what the best trade available is for him. He knows that team execs get desperate as you get closer and closer to the deadline, most of the time trying to improve on the most important end of the floor…DEFENSE

  • NoVaCaInE

I disagree. That deal would leave the Bobcats w/o a backup PG.

  • trenttucker

I would love to agree with you. What I’m hearing/reading, as crazy as it sounds, is that people are interested in Nate, too. That’s part of why he is starting now.

  • dogmanx23

So the cheapest team in the NBA (PHX) who doesn’t want to pay Amare his money (that’s why he’s being offered) will take Jeffries?

Again think about the team your dealing with…. And David Lee isn’t getting traded.

I’m taking this Bobcats thing a rumor because I don’t see what Law can bring to this team.

The only realistic trade i see is Jeffries/Landry/Douglas for Law/Henderson/Flip and even this is kinda crazy.

Maybe its Law for the knicks trade exception?

  • sabreschudge

thats the thing though i believe that LB will want to get a backup point guard that is in his prime. He will look through other trade options and also possible buyout situations to get those players. If the Knicks dont trade Hughes by the deadline don’t be surprised if they buy him out. Not saying Hughes would go to Charlotte but there are plenty viable back-up players that may be bought out before seasons end.

You must be crazy not to see the potential of signing 3 All-Stars to max contracts.

LeBron, Wade, and Bosh anyone? If it takes losing Gallo, Chandler, Hill or Douglas, so be it. Its about getting better now.
Period. The main goal is to win rings. Don’t forget NOBODY is untouchable. When winning is all that matters, nothing else matters.

Comprehend that, Wade, LeBron, and Bosh in 2010.

well according to everyone on this blog”everyone is better than Duhon”..and Zach was considered untradeable only by sportswriters, who by now,you have to know, know absolutely NOTHING!and where does it say “i hate Donnie Walsh” NOWHERE!what im saying is these guy are SUITS i dont hate em ,but im not waving pom poms at GMs.Plus any gm with just a little patience coulda cleared cap room, but Donnie did it in a panic, thinking that he was pulling the wool over someones eyes.but once the dust settles you realize that he got nothing,in return for some pretty talented players(one is an all-star the other is vying for 6th man of the year.we got Al Harrington)all im saying is ,we coulda gotten back more than that

I feel you on it being risky. My thinking here is, we’re all in anyway so you may as well go for the gold. If we can’t land Bron AND Bosh, then we’ll have to go in a different direction. ALthough I must admit, if you sit both of them down at the table and push two max contracts in front of them that may be hard for either to pass up. NY is tough, but it has some allure, although I sometimes wonder if Bosh is built for it. Lebron is made for this, he’s wasting away in Cleveland and I seriously think he knows that. He could own the world playing here in a way that he’d never experience playing in Cleveland. There’s nothing like being a winner in NY. If we can pick up a PG like Sergio Rodriguez, a lneup that looks like:
    PG – Sergio
    SG – Wilson
    SF – Lebron
    PF – Gallo
    C – Bosh

That has to be appealing to those guys. Add in our 2011 draft pick and whoever we can sign when Eddy comes off the book. And if we don’t trade Jared, I am perfectly ok with resigning David Lee at $10m-$11m and just trying to poach Lebron with a max. We still need to fill in a few pieces anyway. So we just wait until Eddy and Jared come off the book and make a play for Melo. This is about being good for a long time and not just a one and done.
