Law Receives Permission to Talk to Teams

by Tommy Dee on February 7th, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Via Hoopsworld-

“…Acie Law and his camp have been given permission from the Charlotte Bobcats to talk to teams and try to find a situation that makes sense for the point guard. The New York Knicks have shown the most interest in Law and his expiring contract. The Indiana Pacers have also had some conversations with Law and could be a potential suitor if New York doesn’t work out. Law still has a lot of potential and many believe he could still be a great point guard if put in the right situation…”

The Law situation, from what I understand, is part of several moves the Knicks are monitoring. I can’t gather any information linking Charlotte to Jared Jeffries, but Law would be a fit if the Knicks can move Nate Robinson or Chris Duhon, the latter an unrealistic possibility.

Several Moves The Knicks Are Monitoring…
What else are they looking at? Please say Iggy, Please Say Iggy

  • Pavvy

everyone looks goood in mixes but if larry brown isnt playing then that says something– and theres no way that donnies calling for iguodala and his huge contract!!!

  • DWknickfan

A Duhon trade unrealistc? I’m not so sure I believe that. He salary is relatively small and he ha an expiring contract. I can see him going to the Spurs or NO with Paul out. I’m not saying we would get anything in return, but even a 2nd round pick would be great.

  • itzyung1

Tommy I have a good question (well a good question to me at least.)

What if Donnie realizes we can’t move JJ for an expiring, Do you think he would say lets move JJ and some other players/picks for Iggy since we already have enough money for one max player and let Iggy be the Max Players sidekick?

I mean there are only 3 max players anyway and one is D Wade who said I am coming back to the Heat.

  • VOR

” Law still has a lot of potential and many believe he could still be a great point guard if put in the right situation…” A “great point guard”. GREAT!
I don’t think he’s better than my guy Curtis Jerrells. All my guy need is a chance. If the Spurs signed my guy-then sent him down- the Cat has to have talent, because it’s evident the Spurs know what their doing. While the Knick’s #8 pick JHill will be at home watching the rookie / sophomore game the Spurs #37 pick will be playing in it, most likely starting! ICheck the tape, is Jerrells not better than Law? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9anGAmF9sg

Itzyung, I just wanted to know why you think Wade is definitely going back to the Heat? I happen to think he is the least likely out of all free agents to return. For several reasons:
    1) Playing in a half-full arena every night is just not right for a star like him.
    2) I understand he won a championship a few years ago, but ever since then his Heat teams have been unmitigated disasters.
    3) This years team is a complete and total joke, I can’t imagine Wade is too happy about being on a team that is somehow below .500 when he is having a crazy year like this.
    4) This team is below .500 in the Eastern conference, which is doubly embarrasing.
    5) I understand the Heat basically have no one under contract for next year except Beasley, but c’mon with this year. Its a disgrace. Besides for Beasley, his entire team is filled with below average players, with the possible exception of Haslem coming off the bench. Chalmers has been awful as has both Alston and Arroyo, Cook has completely regressed, Qrich should be renamed QBrick as we have seen pretty well last year, and Dorell Wright is a mediocre bench player at best.
All of these are why I think Wade won’t be coming back to the Heat, yet I hear all the time that he is definitely going back. I was just wondering why that is and why you think that will be the case.

  • prettyToney

I actually like iggy and his game alot , he doesn’t need to throw up volume to be an effective player, hes a good passer and rebounder and can move the ball i like him playing with Gallinari and Chandler and Hill and Douglas next year. I’m not entirely sure about the cap situation but i’d rather iggy than joe johnson.

  • VOR

“Iggy” can be a chucker sometimes man. The Knicks are getting rid of Harrington this summer, why would you want his younger brother to take his place?

  • Knicks4lyfe8

FINALLY. SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME. IM A HUGE JERRELLS FAN. THIS GUY IS SICK! HE GUNNA BE THE BIGGEST STEAL IN THE DRAFT!!

  • joetheknick

There are good arguments for this trade. Charlotte is in the hunt for a playoff spot. It is claimed Charlotte is looking for a big to bolster the bench. Law is not getting playing time. If Charlotte wants Jeffries, it can work the numbers by including Flip Murray and Gerald Henderson or Ajinca. Knicks could add Marcus Landry. Gives the Knicks Law and Henderson or Ajinca going forward. Charlotte is not looking for cap space. Law is 6’3″ and was 11th pick in 2007. He as well thiught of coming out of the draft. Of course he would up on the bench when Bibby arrived in Atlanta. Worth it to pick up some additional capspace.

  • VOR

@ joetheknick- You think Jordan is going to include Henderson in a trade for JJ and Lawson? If I’m Jordan I’m asking for JHill and your cast off JJ for Henderson , AC Law, and Nazr Mohammed!

  • itzyung1

Cause he said he was going back.
He also said he doesn’t like New York.

  • x-man

I totally agree. I’m just afraid that WE may not have the answers for him to come here. But we had better be making a solid pitch to Wade and LBJ though.

  • starksoakmase

No way i trade Nate for Law or Dj. He is better, I hope the knicks can sign him for like 12 mil over 4 years.

No way would i take Iguodala when we already have chandler. For that money, as I said in the last post, better to wait and trade curry’s expiring for okafor during the next season when I expect the Hornets to be sellers. They have to pay West in 2011 summer.

  • joetheknick

I don’t know what Jordan is thinking. Larry Brown is not playing Henderson. Does he have any game? The Knicks want to trade JJ. It all starts when the Bobcats decide they want JJ. Wait and see.

  • VOR

Your right we’ll wait and see, it’s just that every team is going to do what’s best for them and not what’s best for the Knicks! Besides Larry Brown don’t care to play rookies, plus when they acquired Jackson that really nailed him to the bench!

  • joetheknick

But if I was the Bobcats I would give serious consideration to a guy as versatile as JJ. Making the playoffs is big to the Bobcats. It is a small market and could use the revenue produced by getting into the playoffs.
At least they have a real reason to deal. Wait and see.

  • dogmanx23

The only trade i see that works is

Jeffries/Landry for Graham/Law/Augustin but at the same time leaving bobcats without a PG.

Jeffries/Douglas for Graham/Law/Augustin but at the same time LB doesn’t like rookies.

This makes me wonder if the bobcats have another deal for a PG in the works. Maybe TJ Ford? Farmer? Who knows.

I know i want Augustin as a Knicks PG.

  • Knicks4life

He may be a better player but Nate is not a better PG which is what this team needs. We are trying to build a team, not an IT team of talent players who don’t mesh and all play the same position.

Iguodala is a much better player than Chandler. It is not even close.

  • Knicks4life

JJ would fit in well with the Bobcats. They have alot of versatility on that team already. But taking on JJ contract for a financially struggling franchise like theCats? I don’t see it.

  • starksoakmase

firstly, neither are starting PG’s and if LBJ comes, i rather have nate cuz LBJ will pretty much be the point. We can get Law in free agency for a very small price anyway in the event that we do need a PG.

secondly, not even close? iguodala averages 2 more ppg and 2 more rpg. and has hit his ceiling. Plus shoots 42% from the field compared to wilson’s 47%. chandler is only going to get better. Not to mention that iguodala makes 10 mil more per and is on the books for 4 more years.

i wouldnt trade them straight up even if it were possible under the rules.

  • joetheknick

If they trade Law and Ajinca for Jefferies they pick up about 3 million for 1 year. If they make the playoff, I believe that could provide 15 to 20 milliion (my guess) from tickets, tv, etc. Financially it probably works for the Bobcats.

  • itzyung1

If you even watch Iguodala play you could tell he’s better than Wilson.
    Hit his ceiling? says who?
Beside what is he supposed to get better besides his Shooting which he is doing better every year as well.
Iguodala would be the max player’s sidekick so his contract is Technically a bargain.
Actually watch Iggy play you “stat hugger”

  • starksoakmase

i have watched him play and i think he shoots from the outside too much, whereas wilson has learned to take it to the hoop and not settle for the 3.
His shooting is getting better every year? really? well you can call me a “stat hugger”, but his ppg has gone down each of the last two seasons as has his FG%. Not to mention that his team SUCKS with him as the #1 guy.

wilson is a SF who shoots 47% from the field and score 15 per. Name me 5 players in the league that can say that.

Iguodala should be making 9-10 per not 12+,13+,14+,15+ as his contract is. the point is that Wilson is a bargain and he will command a much more acceptable contract or can be used to bring in a very good PG or C.

  • italian stallion

Wade is Wade. He’s a great player.

Beasley seems to be settling down and is likely to become a very good player by next year.

They will have room for Bosh or another high level player.

    He loves Miami.

    He hates the cold weather.

    He’s not going anywhere.

  • starksoakmase

anyone watching Boston get beat up by Orlando. i hope Donnie is on the horn right now with Danny. They can’t score, they cant defend.

    shuttlesworth for Al,JJ and Nate

    lets do it!

  • itzyung1

You have a bad Judgement of Talent then.
And you cant blame the 76ers woes on Iggy.
And if you wanna hug the stats look at it his attempts, when his PPG dropped his attempts went down you said it yourself he is a volume shooter.

If you want to break it down lets break it down Iggy Passes Better Than Wilson, Shooting is about even seeing how Iggy team leans on him more than we lean on Wilson, Iggy Defends Better, Iggy Rebounds Better, Hes Smarter, A Better Leader, Handles The Ball Better, and Gets To The Cup Better.
The only thing that separates Iggy from the Elite is his average shooting.

  • starksoakmase

I never said Chandler is a better player right now, but Chandler has upside and trade value. My original point was that Iguodala is not that much better than Chandler.

guys like Iguodala are not very rare. gerald wallace is better, josh Smith The difference is that he makes an obscene amount of money. He is not even an all-star. Not even in the discussion.

The money is much better spent addressing other areas.
you would probably trade chandler, jj and expiring for iguodala. that would be foolish because you can trade chandler down the road for a very good PG or C. especially if we get James.

  • itzyung1

Gerald Wallace is better? only thing he does better than Iggy is rebound and thats barely.
Its hard to say whos better between a SG and a PF though talking about Iggy and Josh Smith.
Iguodala has barely been on a winning team of course he woudn’t be an all star.
And you are assuming we can trade Chandler for a PG and a C which is foolish.

  • bob go knicks

He loves south beach,he already won a ring and now just wants the money, make comercials, and lay on the beach. If he goes anywhere,it’ll be Chicago

  • traps9

Dude!!! That kid is smooth, man.

  • starksoakmase

bro what are you talking about. Much better rebounder, one of the best in the league. Much more efficient scorer. He shoots just under 50% from the field. Are you kidding me?
And Josh is not a typical PF.

Iguodala is not even border line all-star. even players on bad teams are in the discussion.

Whatever man, we will have to agree to disagree, but know this, chandler will be a very good knick player for a great price, or bring in a very good player for a position we need.

    Either way, Lets go knicks!

    enjoy the Super Bowl

  • dino2008

i think they make the playoffs without or without jj

  • Knicks4life

That is my point. They would be adding salary next year for no real purpose. Unless they believe they can upset a team like the Celtics in the first round with the help of Jeffries . . .which is beyond doubtful.

  • Knicks4life

Call me crazy but I like that trade on both sides.

Problem is, who do Cs waive to make room for all those incoming players. And who starts at SG in Boston? They would have to make another trade.

  • x-man

Does Wade knows we play our games inside?

Wade can and will say anything but if he’s not playing to a full crowd or his team isn’t in the same talk with Kobe, LBJ and etc, he will reassess things. Wade has an ego I-Stallion! We just need some good sellers that can use that to our advantage. Tell him that we’ll turn up the state thermostat in the winter.

  • x-man

Don’t sleep on Iggy dude. A team with Iggy and LB would be a force to deal with.

Imagine having these two with a pure shooter like Gallo and a center that can defend.

  • dino2008

they could 100 percent upset the celtics……..

  • itzyung1

I agree we have to because its obvious we have our mind made up.
But if we do get Iggy im confident he’d prove you wrong.

  • Jack D

well either way, he’s not coming to NY

  • Jack D

sure we play inside, but if he goes to the knicks he’s gonna have to get a place in NY. Just the cold lifestyle is unappealing to him. Every year when I go to Florida i think “man it would be sweet to live here.”

  • Jack D

NO can du without the du(hon).

  • Jack D

i don’t follow college..any chance this guy slips to the 2nd round?

  • Jack D

    *drooling*

  • Jack D

    especially with boston’s injuries

  • Jack D

wait what do u mean lbj doesnt like rookies? what about steph curry? and gibson a few years back? (just to give a few examples)

  • joetheknick

I am reading that the Bobcats have been very unhappy with Diaw’s inconsistency. If you believe they don/t need JJ, then a trade won.t happen.

  • starksoakmase

    I will one up ya….
Call ME crazy, but they can start Nate…….
    or Tony Allen.

I think It might still work if they throw in Scalbrine and waive like Sheldon Williams

  • prettyToney

I think its looking pretty bleak lebron coming here its starting to make me delirious maybe we should trade for sweet lou williams and igoudala.then play hill at the 5 gallo pf and will at the 3.

  • DVJ

I want Augustin as a Knicks PG also.
I think that kid has potential. Also think Law has potential also.
Henderson would be the best fit IMO.
I love his game and I think Larry Brown may have some explaining to do to Michael Jordan if he’s traded to us. I would bet the house that kid would be amazing in D’Antoni’s system. Actually he would be great in just about any system in the league except Larry Browns lol….

    Patience my friends…..

  • DVJ

    I think that’s a great trade.

Ray for Harrington, Nate and Jeffries. It’s good for both teams but how many big trades do you see happen with teams in the same division? Who knows….Ainge may go ahead and make the trade because as time goes on and they continue to struggle he’ll be more willing to roll the dice. I think we need to watch Chicago….they can also be major players in trades this year.

  • DVJ

I love Lou WIlliams game. Very underrated as is the kid Nick Young from Washington.

  • nysportsfan47

I don’t understand how Duhon can be the only point guard on this roster. but Acie Law is not an answer to anything other than a 10 minute per game backup. If the goal was to get a top free agent after this season then they blew it by not drafting a player who was ready to make a contribution this year like Jennings.

Maybe it’s the curse of Dolan-if he would sell the team maybe they would have a chance in my lifetime.

  • NoVaCaInE

Chicago gets much colder than NY…
