“…A new name that has crept into the discussion is Marcus Camby, he’s a rebounding machine and can of course play defense and block shots. CBS Sports reports that the Knicks and the Denver Nuggets are interested in the services of Camby. The Knicks only interest would be Camby’s expiring contract. The Nuggets on the other hand seem to be looking to bolster their front line, in order to stop the likes of A’mare Stoudimire, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol come playoff time…”
Every time Camby’s name comes up it is met with the idea that the owner is still here. Reports always concluded that he wanted Camby out of here.
We’ll see. Obviously, I’d think he’d prefer Denver.

I brought up getting Camby and was shot down because of his relationship with the owner. Camby is exactly what this team needs going forward. I think Donnie has the power to go after him regardless of what Jimmy “wannabe Paige’ Dolan thinks. What do you all think he will command in free agency next year? depending on what the salary cap is, the knicks may be able to offer him a 3 year deal that averages 5 mil, but starts at about 4. he is 36. years old.
He would be great to pair up with Lee!!!!!!!!! Then David could slide back to the 4. But who would the clips want that we have? What I do think that we should try to do is trade Al, Nate, and JJ for Ray Allen because I think that Boston needs to shake things up. What do you guys think?????
Lees’ D would instantly improve with a legit shot blocker next to him, plus, he would be guarding other 4′s. As the next post says, whats up with trading Mobley? anybody know?
Yea, i brought that up on Sunday when I watched the Boston, Orlando game. Boston can’t defend, they can’t score, and Ray is not the same player. my only concern is that Danyy would basically be trading for 40% of the knicks rotation. How does that look in Boston?
“Lees’ D would instantly improve with a legit shot blocker next to him, plus, he would be guarding other 4’s.”
That’s insane!!! So you are telling me David Lee can guard KG/Wallace, Rashard Lewis, Josh Smith, Beasley, Yi, Brand, Gerald Wallace, Dirk, K-Mart, Gasol/Odom, Z-Bo, David West, Jeff Green, Amare, LaMarcus Aldridge, Duncan, Bosh, Boozer and Jamison. SMFH!!!
Lee gets killed down low by bigger players. Having a shotblocker would keep guys out of the paint some.
I never said he would be a good defender, but he would definitely be better off.
So essentially you are are arguing that Lee is better off guarding centers with no help from the weak side?
“Lees’ D would instantly improve”
Lee has to actually give effort for that to happen. As much as I like Lee and I’m willing to admit he has improved dramatically offensively, he just has no desire to play defense. This is what kills me about him. When Lee was 1st drafted he played extremely hard every minute he was out on the floor. He would dive on the floor after loose balls, dive into the stands, and obviously clean up the boards, that’s how he earned his blue collar tittle. What the hell happened to that guy? Now he is a jump shooting finesse player. What also kills Lee with me is his contract demands. He wants to get payed like a complete player and he is far from that. He is not even a 2nd option on a good team. Of course a shot blocker would help. You stated his D will improve guarding 4′s. I disagree. There are a lot more talented and quicker 4′s then there are 5′s in this league.
But what would we possibly offer? Is Mobley, a 2nd rounder and 3 mil cash enough? I’m sure playoff teams would have something of value to offer LA.
I only have one question ,Does he still get hurt every year?
But he would help Hill as a role model on court.
I cant see why we would trade for him this year. LA is not going to take back JJ for him… so what is the point really? I would rather hang on to the assets we have and sign him as a FA during the offseason.
I would take Camby over Lee 9 times out of 10 this offseason. I think they end up getting similar contracts when all is said and done.
I’m not sure about them getting paid the same. Lee will get around 45-50 over 5 years. Camby is 36 years old. he got a little over 7 mil this year. with all of these FA’s out there, I think he will be offered the MLE by some contenders, but who knows.
maybe not the same in years, but i bet the per year number is close.
He wont get any where close to what Lee gets. Camby is 36 yrs old. He’ll be lucky to get the full mle. David will get 8-10 mil, Camby will get 3-5 mil.
Man when the Camby Man was healthy he was great, but his health wasn’t gauranteed. I think it’s just the Knick curse that when a player leaves the Knicks they just get better. I want to see what the costs is, but i pretty much like him in NY
this is off topic, but what about signing Joe Alexander for cheap in the off season? The Bucks aren’t picking up his option.
assuming he’s healthy
a 35 year old defensive big man is not what this team ‘needs going forward.’ I understand our defense is porous and we are all thirsting for some shot blocks, but that’s not enough to want camby.
I really just don’t get this one.
Not sure if Camby can reject a trade or not does anyone know?
on another subject the bucks just put Luke Ridnour,Hakim Warrick & Joe Alexander on the market there all expiring at the end of this year what do you think of those guys for a second half push at the last playoff spot?

i mentioned Joe A above, but he (nor Warrick) is out answer for a playoff push. I wouldn’t trade for JA, I’d wait until the summer to sign him for cheap. Maybe Ridnour could give us a nice push, but what can we possibly offer for him?
That would be the question with Camby as well, so not to sure maybe TD as a good cheap back up for Jennings and AL (just guessing with that) since they have no scoring. The complaint is that Al hogs the ball and does not move it & that we dont have a pure PG that can distribute plus Warrick is another ok defender to put in the mix. Just a thought but I lean more to using All at the draft deadline for a draft pick from a contending team that needs a good scoring punch off the bench.
i meant to say he (nor Warrick) is not our answer for a playoff push
As long as we don’t give up anything of long term value I would have no problem with signing Camby. He would make us better in the short term and we could consider signing him next year if it was cheap enough. There’s no downside unless we give up a young player. However, this would obviously not be a long term solution to our defensive woes in the middle because he’s too old.
I just cant see the Clips just giving the guy away so there going to want something of value.
The only player the knicks should move for Camby is Al-Chucketts . He fits with the clippers as a PF while Blake is recovering . They might even sign him in the summer. They dont currently have a better option at the 4 spot and he scores more than Camby and is more varataile. Camby would make the knicks a little better but not enough for a play off push unless they get a pg.
Damn my writing is bad ! lol
David Lee’s success is based on the fact that he’s a center. Take the bad with the good. I think Camby (5) + Lee (4) is a recipe for disaster.
The Knicks shouldn’t even try to sign Camby above the veteran’s minimum in my opinion, but I’d trade Al Harrington for him in a second.
Who said anything about David Lee . I would start Camby with Hill. The knicks would win more games based on defense.
If we can unload Jeffries then awesome. Otherwise I’ll pass.
According to insider, they feel that darko could get him. They said they could trade camby for darko and then try to buyout darko. Don’t see it happening perosnally, but I guess you never know. Also, i brought up luke ridnour yesterday and sure enough insider brought it up today. They bucks are looking at trading him, warrick, and joe alexander. I would do harrington for ridnour and kurt thomas personally.
How about Lee for Camby and a draft pick?
Don’t know if the numbers would work though, but I would make that move. _avi_ won’t be here (hopefully) next year anyway.
As soon as Camby came back to NY he’d step in sum dried up shyte and break his ankle or sumthin
