Salmons Not Part of Rockets Deal

by Tommy Dee on February 17th, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Via SI’s Chris Mannix-

“…John Salmons not with the Bulls tonight and not part of McGrady deal…”

And Walsh is comfortably in his seat…Also, Nate has cleaned out his locker, from what I hear, and the rumor deal of JR Giddens and House reported on MSG isn’t confirmed. Again, first rounder will be coming Knicks way from what I understand from multiple sources.

  • jg1170

If it’s as you say Tommy, NICE!!!!!!!!!!!

    And could everyone please relax.

I could make a fortune right now selling antacid.

  • Knicks4life

If the Knicks can trade Jeffries they should make a play for Stoudamire tomorrow.

I know they already have Hill, Lee, Chandler and Gallo but Amare would be the biggest star they have had in years, may just take slightly less than the minimum, and would be the 2nd star to attract LBJ, Wade, Joe Johnson, etc.

The only fear is the McDyess factor. He is always hurt and unlike McDyess doens’t play much man-man defense. I also don’t think he has that great a relationship with Mike D’Antoni but hey if Kobe and Phil could make up. . .

  • terps2knicks

T-Mac is already going to be the biggest Knicks star in years. We really don’t have much to offer for Stoudamire, at least I hope we don’t offer any more of our young guys. Gallo, Chandler and Douglas are our supporting cast that will surround whatever star free agent(s hopefully) we bring in.

  • knicksfan36

maybe if we dont give up hill in the mcgrady deal we can use him as trade bait for stoudemire… just saying… however stoudemire is injury prone and im not sure the knicks should go for him. a tandem of lee and thomas would be fine if you as me, all the knicks owuld have to do is sign wade and lebron to compliment them =P

  • Jankees27

Salmons is going to the Bucks for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson

  • Jankees27

Also, does anyone else get the feeling that donnie is going to pull an impact move out of his @$$ on the deadline? I feel like Mike Conley’s availability really has him intrigued and I feel as if something big and unexpected could happen. Wehther its on our part or another team…

  • itzyung1

Good Luck Nate. I Hope You Can Get A Ring with The Celtics.

If we deal for Tyrus Thomas can we still afford two MAX Contracts this summer?
Sherron Collins is our guy with the Celtics pick by the way.

  • itzyung1

If Donnie gets Mcgrady and Amare in the same day we should all bow. To The all great Don Walsh…lol

  • Knicks4life

    Donnie’s done.

  • JASONHAYES

Celtics pick is not for this year! Its for 2011 Sorry to bust your bubble.

  • jg1170

TT has a qualifying offer next year.

If he doesn’t workout Knicks can just release him.

Knicks do not have to pick it up.

  • LBJ2010

Is anyone else a bit worried that Jeffries is not on the court or bench, but Hill is? Breen did say Jeffries had a bruised knee in the first half but was “probable” to return…

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

If so – disaster for our 2010 FA summer plans – Chicago will have nice CAP space to compete with us. Dang!

  • Knicks4life

Something needs to be done about Lee’s defense.

It is almost criminal at this point.

  • DWknickfan

JJ isn’t playing, they say a bad knee. Should I be worried that he might actually be hurt or are they just holding him out for a pending trade………as a struggling knick fan, u always expect the worse

  • Jankees27

Hes definitely not. The Houston trade will happen and I’m pretty sure Harrington gets dealt also

  • itzyung1
  • ds2488

Nice collapse going on right now. I will add the obligatory nightly David Lee should be embarrassed, but its becoming useless because he clearly isn’t. Brad Miller…13 points in the 3rd quarter right now. Taj Gibson is grabbing every rebound(although not all of it is Lee’s fault, at least half of them are). He is so bad, how was this guy an allstar. Embarrassing.

  • JASONHAYES

Relax guys they probably just dont want t chance JJ getting hurt. He’s most likely banged that knee and donnie was like f that, take him out!

  • Knicks4life

MSG report did not include a 1st round pick. That is not good.

  • blackwood

WADE IS NOT GOING TO PLAY FOR THE KNICKS! just wanted to make sure you can read that lol he wants to stay in miami which is why he is pressing the team to upgrade. If he leaves it’s to go to the bulls his home town to play with that beast of a PG! Add to that he is a star in his own right and does not see himself as a pippen but rather a Jordan! No side kick role for him.

  • Knicks4life

Is that a serious offer? It would give Memphis a good laugh though.

  • DWknickfan

Wilt Chamberlin is killing David Lee tonight, but that’s what Hall of Famers do…….. Oh wait, that’s an old Brad Miller

  • ds2488

    lol

  • jg1170

    LOL, dead on.

  • ds2488

Gallo just needs to be more aggressive when the team is struggling like this. Its just really bad, I know the offense calls for him to stand to the side at times, but he has to take the initiative to call for the ball and make a quick move like he just did to draw the foul. Too much standing around and doing nothing.

  • JASONHAYES

With Jeffries not coming back Im confident the Tmac deal is going down. Read between the lines people. They most likely told him go home to pack your bags you have a flight to houston tomorrow! His knee is sore just like Nate has the flu.

    READ BETWEEN THE LINES PEOPLE

  • JASONHAYES

AL and Hill are just in a final showcase game

  • greatman42001

I was just looking at JR Giddens bio and his strengths and weaknesses, the guy is still very young and almost has no nba playing experience so no one really knows what he has, he was behind allen ( tony and ray)… this is a guy that can jump is a freak athlete and could shoot the 3 ball… seems like a perfect fit for the system… he was highly recruited out of high school and even won co mvp honors at the global games sharing the honor with Deron Williams.
Now I’m not saying this guy is an answer to anything but i really like the idea of having him included in this deal… he kind of sounds like a raw Wilson Chandler type of player…. who knows Chandler wasn’t well known coming into this league maybe they can get something out of Giddens.

  • JASONHAYES

John Salmons just got traded to the Bucks for Kurt Thomas and Fransico Elson

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Yeah – if we do not have this first round pick coming back in the Boston deal – I am going to be real upset with Tommy reporting it.

  • JASONHAYES

He’s a decent sized guarrd as well.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Amazing – Chicago gets rid of their 5.8 million albatross contract like that w/out having to give us first round draft picks – and J.J. – who this blog loves – we have to give up the next decade’s worth of draft picks. Amazing – kudos to Chicago – they have their act together and they have Rose – watch out – either Bosh or Joe Johnson going there. Dang dang dang.

  • itzyung1

Did you even bother to read the article or you just looked straight at the offer.

  • blackwood

Interesting but not for Chandler it would end up being a push not an upgrade IMO….Every game Chandler is increasing his value and if the basketball gods care for the knicks he may become a piece that helps land CP3 down the line maybe even over the summer ;)

  • JASONHAYES

This is the stretch of the Game where Tmac is needed.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Sad thing is that 24 hours from now – when the dust settles – there is no need to talk about the Knicks until July – sad, sad, sad. Shut it down and wait till July 1st now – well – after tomorrow.

  • blackwood

    If u say so!! lol

  • JASONHAYES

Donnie needs to trade hill ASAP!

  • blackwood

Needed for what to ice his knees? lol

  • CircleLimit4

Duhon/Douglas is a horrid backcourt, what is he thinking.

  • ds2488

Oh man, Hill is either really psyched out or just plain awful. I don’t know which, but there is no way that guy belongs on the court right now, along with Suckhon. This team is just atrocious, take Duhon out and have Douglas play the point. All it takes is a little bit of fullcourt pressure and Duhon is useless, hes absolutely too slow to deal with any pressure. He sucks.

  • jg1170

    Chad Ford, ESPN

“The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a deal in principle that will send John Salmons to the Bucks for the expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson, sources said on Wednesday.

The deal allows the Bulls to clear Salmons $5.8 million salary off the books for next season. That puts them roughly $20 million under the cap next summer as the Bulls make a push to sign free agents like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

The deal gives the Bucks a shooting guard to replace the injured Michael Redd.”

  • JASONHAYES

For all you guys that were hoping Donnie wouldnt trade hill, Do you see what he has now. NOTHING! He commits to turnovers in two minutes, and smiles. Not a good sign, about where this kids head is.

  • Knicks4life

Read the article but the article does not explain why Memphis would do this deal (i.e. Knicks deal). However, a rationale could be Chandler could replace Gay if he leaves and Hill would be a prospect next to Thabeet.

Again, I’m sure Memphis would have a good laugh at this because . . .Chandler is nowhere near Mayo’s level (how good could he be?) and Hill is well, not looking too good. No way you trade Mayo for that type of package.

Ellis is a better player than Mayo, I can see Memphis going that route, but Chandler nor Hill are on Mayo’s level.

  • blackwood

way to get dunked on Gallo lol & way to answer back ILL Will!!

  • Knicks4life

    OMG. Chandler for CP3 now.

Cmon guys with Nate gone Chandler is my new favorite Knick but you all are insane.

  • Kwayry

7 Mil worth of cap space is worth 2 potential lottery picks we are told. Somebody forgot to tell the Bulls.

  • Knicks4life

How about real upset with Donnie for trading Nate to Boston, our hated rival, for garbage.

  • Knicks4life

So then why is Jordan Hill playing?

  • Knicks4life

Um . . . Jarred Jeffries is no John Salmons.

How sad is that to say.

  • CircleLimit4

    He being D’antoni.

  • JASONHAYES

Aww shit TMAC IS HEADED TO THE BULLS!!!! VIA YAHOO ADRIAN W.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • Knicks4life

We have no other guards . . .

    Except Larry Hughes . . .

So we have no other guards.

  • JASONHAYES

Not done yet but they’ve recruited the Kings for some three way trade.

  • blackwood

Will is playing by his damn self out there!!!

  • blackwood

DAMN I was hoping to dump Lee on them for Thompson!!! Geeez!!

  • ds2488

As Breen just said, the closeouts just aren’t there. No excuse, you run out with your hands up and run them off the jumper. No excuse. Lee first, and then Chandler on the next possesion. Can’t just let guys take those jumpers without an effort there. Very bad.

  • blackwood

Those blown lottery picks are really coming back to haunt us now!!

  • Knicks4life

    Knicks need a PG.

Whether it is Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings, Derrick Rose.

We just routinely get exposed by other teams PGs down the stretch.

  • blackwood

WTF!!!! what the hell kinda pass!!

  • itzyung1

Chandler has been playing better than Mayo..
Another reason they would do the trade is Mayo and Gay dont go together Chemistry wise.
Somebody like Chandler who is young and promising and doesn;t demand the ball like Mayo could help Gay out.

  • ds2488

Why the heck is Suckhon running at that loose ball like an idiot. He wasn’t even close to getting the ball. Thats all on him.

  • blackwood

Doo Doo is garbage and Al needed to take the foul on Thomas not let him dunk!

  • ds2488

Thats 2 freaking straight plays where Suckhon ran at the ball like an idiot and caused a basket. Mike…how bad can this guy play before you freaking bench him. Seriously, how is it possible for him to play any worse. He has made mistake after mistake this whole quarter and down crunch time until that charge he just drew. He is so bad.

  • ds2488

Gallo just went ice cold. I like the aggressiveness though.

  • blackwood

You know the damn coach told em to do that dumb go for 3 shit!!!! if he did not then he failed to direct the team in what to do!!

  • Knicks4life

Well with Nate gone they really have no other option now.

  • joeyballz

Houston has recruited SAC as part of a potential 3 team deal for McGrady…The other team would be Chicago and the player that would be needed for a trade is Salmons, who reportedly has been traded to the Bucks.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-mcgradyhouston021710&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

  • Knicks4life

As a player if you are under the basket with the ball down three with more than ten seconds to go how stupid do you have to be to not go for the layup. Bulls don’t want to commit the foul so you are pretty much getting an uncontested layup. That isn’t on the coach. Just stupid.

  • DWknickfan

That 3 team trade scenario had Salmons included but he was dealt to the Bucks. Misinformation coming out of Houston to pressure the Knicks????

  • Knicks4life

Cmon TKB where is the game recap . . .

Want to see the spin cycle in full effect.

  • blackwood

Thats right Will get on the coach show him where he fucked up AGAIN!! 10 for 14 26pts 5 boards and what was the damn coach running all night?? not plays for him and damn sure not demanding Gallo post up a guy he has 7 inchs on!!

  • ds2488

I just want to see Douglas instead of him at this point. Its absolutely pointless and ridiculous that Suckhon still gets the minutes he does. Its just insanity…either TD is part of the future and can benefit from playing significant minutes at the point, or hes not and you trade him. At this point, its just dumb to be playing to win(not that Suckhon helps you do that in any way) and theres no reason why TD shouldn’t be playing at least 30 minutes a game at the point guard slot, where you would think they may have envisioned him when they drafted him.

  • ds2488

yes agreed. Chandler or Lee both should have went up with that ball there. No excuse not to. Also Chucketts could have helped on that turnover by running towards the ball.

  • blackwood

your right i agree but they had no plan so thats on the coach.

  • Knicks4life

But Douglas is not a PG.

And there isn’t even a legitimate SG on the roster. Well Hughes could be but D’Antoni is on his period again.

  • joeyballz

I think it all depends if the Chi deal with the Bucks has actually gone through. Chad Ford said they have agreed on principle but I think the Bulls would want the 3 team scenario over the straight trade with the Bucks involving Salmons…

  • jg1170

“The Rockets want to trade first-round picks in 2011 and take the Knicks’ 2012 pick. They also have asked for cash, the source said.”

    That’s crazy, demanding too much.

  • ds2488

Gallo took 18 shots tonight, a fair amount. He went 4 of 6 to start the game, and then went 1 of 12 for the rest of the game. He just didn’t have it, I’m not sure posting him up was a wise idea, although he did have a nice jumper off a postup down the stretch. The real problem was not just giving Wilson the ball and clearing out, and the continued lack of defensive effort by guys like Lee, Harrington, Suckhon. Just inexcusable. But I liked what I saw from Gallo overall. Ice cold, he still managed to score more points than shots, played nice defense down the stretch on Rose, and like usual had the best +- on the team.

  • ds2488

Yeah I guess I kind of agree. They ran a play for Gallo, who has been pretty clutch this year in situations like that. His first look wasn’t good at all, but he got a really good second look. I agree though, no reason why that play shouldn’t have been run for Wilson. He was the guy to get the ball too.

  • Knicks4life

    I hate the + – , meaningless stat.

I also don’t agree with a continuous clearing out for Wilson. Knicks offense, for better or worse, is premised on ball movement (although someone needs to give Al harrington that memo).

    Agree with everything else though.

  • BiggieSmalls

    shhh…

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

It really goes to show you how crazy the contract was to J.J. – nobody wants it – unless a huge premium is paid. A lesson to be learned for anyone that wants to pay David Lee 10-12 million a year this coming offseason.

  • DWknickfan

The offense is too dependent on one on one plays. Hard to do if you have not one person on your team that can be counted on to always beat his man off the dribble and draw double teams. Gallo was so disappointing, to go 1 for 12 after a hot start was bad. If Wilson is hot, how come plays weren’t called for him. He scored a good few points after a play had broken down and he he was passed the ball with no choice but to do something with the ball. The lack of a shotblocker/defender was so evident. Maybe we needed Camby before Mcgrady???

  • ufwop28

agreed…im probably the biggest david lee fan there is, being a florida gator alumni who was at UF the same time as Lee…but his defense is nonexistent…bulls had a free-for-all in the paint….AGAIN…..we need size and Lee needs to man up and get physical….

  • traps9

Giddens went to UNM, so I gotta show love for my ABQ brother. Maybe he’ll be worth keeping around next year on the cheap. Go Lobos!

  • ds2488

Would you honestly say Suckhon is a “pg” at this point? He struggles to create for himself and others, can’t play defense, damn sure doesn’t make anyone on the court better, and can’t deal with pressure. He was terrible down the stretch, he had 2 horrible steal attempts that both resulted in a layup and a dunk, and a huge turnover off a horrible pass to Chucketts. Also, he did a miserable job fighting through a screen on one play that led to a Rose layup and a foul. Hes just really taht bad. Douglas can give them so much more at that position with those minutes, its just crazy to me that hes not being given the experience he should be while Suckhon is playing this poorly.

  • x-man

It’s was nice seeing the youth on the court finally. This season is over except to make assessment about moving forward.

Did any of ya see Raphael actually passing the ball some the last 2 games? It seems he finally sees that he can get the ball back in better positions when he does. Amazing that this coach didn’t show him this in film sessions and if Raphael didn’t adhere, he would see himself on the bench in film session too.

Like kids that rant about parenting at times, most players want to be coached.

The Cavs surely just got better so maybe we lost our chance to sell Lebron but maybe our GM can pull a rabbit out of the hat…..he better!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Um John Salmons is not worth 5.8 million in any economy – especially eating into cap space. Just realize how difficult it is to trade most contracts that are on the book next year – and how easy the Bulls just did it. Please.

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

Yeah – and you are still the one who has their head in the sand about a HARD CAP looming – shhhhh – do not wake yourself up on that one.

  • rocky

like I have posted all day,
    we don’t know d-ck until
the ink dries on one of these deals.

we know that darko has embarkoed..
    nuttin else yet.

it’s 10pm do you know whos on your team?

    Nope

  • ds2488

I usually agree with you regarding the +-, but tonight wathcing the game the Knicks were just a different team without Gallo on the floor, especially in the 1st half. But if someone is consistently putting up the best +- I am more inclined to accept it. But it can be kind of meaningless and misleading.

  • ufwop28

SOMEBODY TELL LEE TO PLAY SOME FRIGGIN DEFENSE AND MAYBE WE WIN THAT GAME

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

If Boston knocks off the Cavs – I am fine with that. I dislike Cleveland Cavalier fans in the same vein as I sort of hate Red Sox fans – wait did I just really say that – I guess I did – this July 1st thing is really getting a hold of me now – it is Bron Bron or bust.

  • x-man

I hear ya abut we haven’t played smart for most of the year so in one game, Gallo or others are not gonna get it together.

I’m anxious to see this coach finally get these players to play hard and smarter as the games go by. Expecting this coach to be a genius with this team is beyond sensible. Expecting this coach to help these players mature and play smarter b-ball regardless of the result is sensible.

Let this coach earn his money now and put aside the playoffs b.s!

  • x-man

    lol

  • Knicks4life

Gallo needs to learn to drive when his shot is not falling.

  • x-man

Lee is an all-start now! Too late to get to him now!

  • Realist_Knick_Fan

I know Duhon was playing tonight – ugggh

  • Knicks4life

I really can’t believe that we just traded Nate for garbage and no first round pick.

Yeah but I know, in Donnie we trust and stay patient.

    F*&kers.

  • jg1170

He had a nice block early in the game.

I forget against who, it was probably a guard.

But the rest of the game it was that same Ole Matador defense all Knick fans are used to by now.

  • harris

Is there any way we can trade this coach before the deadline? Talk about a complete disregard for defense. It doesn’t matter who the Knicks bring in unless there is some emphasis placed on stopping the other team from scoring at will. This is now the second night in a row where they make a bad offensive team look like the showtime 80′s Lakers. Positively awful coaching by D’Antoni.

  • pepsiporch

No Mention here that Jeffries was not on the floor in second half or on the bench .

  • x-man

lol It’s like rocky says “it’s 10pm do you know whos on your team?”

It waaay to early to see what this team will be next year. If you care what this team will be this year, you need serious help. lol

  • traps9

Misinformation has been coming out from Houston for hours. Nothing new here.

  • x-man

Why u go there dude? I’m trying my a-s-s off to be positive and you come here with facts like that,. Oh Well, I can’t fight it anymore, I have to go with the flow

    +1

  • Knicks4life

Well if you listened to Malik Rose in the post game you would have thought the Knicks were playing Boston Celtic type defense.

  • REELTALKSHAKES

dnt forget giddens also played for KANSAS…

  • blackwood

Gallo,Hill,TD,EC,JJ & the picks we where going to give Houston for CP3 & Stojakovic….Lee for Thompson & sergio!! Al for Joe Alexander & Ersan Ilyasova.

CP3 & Stojakovic is over 31mil EC & JJ is 18mil they save a ton we wait for 2011…anything for a top of the line PG lol a fan can dream!!

But even if that did not work the other 2 trades could.
