Trade Updates

by Tommy Dee on February 17th, 2010 at 4:23 pm

So as of 6pm the Nate to Celtics deal still hasn’t gone down, but others, reportedly, have been agreed upon or are in the works.

Chad Ford is reporting a Darko for Brian Cardinal deal has been agreed upon in principal. This frees up money for the Knicks, and it’s the only way I can describe it other than it opens up another roster spot for the Knicks to make a bigger move.

Also, it appears the Cavs have worked a 3-way deal that gets them Antwan Jamison.

The Washington Post, amongst others are reporting:

“…The trade has also been confirmed by sources that spoke to Brian Windhorst of the Beacon-Journal and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!

The Wizards will receive Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Al Thornton, Brian Skinner and a 1st round pick, according to the source.

The Clippers are also involved and will receive Drew Gooden.

Along with Jamison, Cleveland will receive Sebastian Telfair….”

The Yahoo report says the Clippers will only receive Drew Gooden…that doesn’t add up. If this is true there should be grievance…or the Clippers should fold.

Alsoo KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, is reporting:

“…Bulls management has told Salmons to remain at team hotel as it works to finalize a trade. Won’t play vs. Knicks…”

This is the most significant rumor, seeing that the Bulls have been part of discussions with the Rockets for McGrady, amongst other deals.

1st Rd PICK!!!!! If this is true DW has done a fantastic job. He played the market and the pressures that are on the Celts cause of the movement or potential movement of the Cavs and used that as leverage. Great job. Its like Omar pinning himself against himself to give FA more $$$….wait actually nothing like that

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

HEY IF THIS IS FOR A FIRST ROUNDER I’M ALLLLLLLLLL FOR IT….

hopefully this will start to get the dominos to start falling….next up McGrady, than Tyrus Thomas and Pargo????

plzzzzzzzzz don’t be jerome james…lol, i do not want to hear this guys name associated w/ the knicks…lol….

  • traps9

Very good news! House could be a rotation piece next year, too, if he and we wanted.

  • Donnie2010

What will all the Donnie haters cry about if this is true?

  • barnaby8787

Could he spin that pick to houston and hold onto ours or is there some trade exception on it since we just acquired it (or will be just acquiring it)?

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

i wonder when donnie says he doesn’t want to trade Hill, does he mean just to Houston??? could we trade Hill, Al, Landry for Tyrus Thomas, Pargo and maybe james johnson?????n than i’d be ok w/ taking jerome james back to make the money match…

  • knicksfan36

i wouldnt spin the celtics pick to the rockets. if all goes according to plan the knicks will be top 3 in the conference, thus meaning that the celtics will have a better draft pick. also the celtics are aging, in 2 seasons they may not even make the playoffs (a stretch but still something to consider). So if they got a future 1st they should hold onto it and give up theirs.

  • bigknicka

I think it eases the thought of giving up 2012 pick if anything so it would mean the knicks would have 2 first round picks next year….. I’m cool with that!!!

    In Donnie I Trust

  • rocky

you sure Nate wasn’t traded for a box set of HOUSE the TV series?

getting ahead of myself, but IF Donnie can choreograph these trades
get McGrady, dump Jeffires tract and ultimately sign LBJ and another,
    he will be

    “DONNIE-BASKETBALL”

a lot of IF’s to go

  • dogmanx23

Does everyone seem to forget that House for Nate doesn’t match money wise?

More players have to be involved, no pick is going to make this trade match up..

  • DinnerDog

We should keep the celtics pick and give away our own in the Mcgrady deal. I have feeling we are going to be a better team than the Celtics in the next couple of years.

  • DinnerDog

However, I do wonder wether getting this pick has something to do with getting Tryus Thomas (as it has been reported the Bulls want a draft pick in any deal for him)

  • bduigs

    X Mas in February!

  • fauci933

It’s not just Nate straigh up for Eddie and a pick I’m guessing. I’m sure there’s some filler being tossed around to make things work. Let’s let the NBA GM’s worry about that.

  • bduigs

Best post I’ve seen in a while. As Eddie Murphy would say……………………..Alright Rock!!!!!!!! Alright Slyyyyy!!!!!!!!

  • blackwood

Why would anybody cry about getting a 1rd pick for a guy we where going to lose?? Oh wait donnie masterfully crafted the trade and fleeced the celtics? Please please please Tommy go to my old posts and prove that I said we could get a 1rd pick for N8 and a few more of our assets when the contenders who want to make that final push and need that extra piece off the bench to in there view put them over the top come calling!! This was not genius this was basic NBA trade deadline stuff!! Geez guys let the man actually do something great before you wash his feet and build his statue!! lol

Want me to be impressed trade for Bosh or CP3 by the deadline and I will give you props for a hell of an incredible move but give me a break with the incense lighting guys please!

It went to a 1rd because the Lakers came calling anybody with a brain can see that.

  • ds2488

Very nice trade from DW. He managed to get a 1st round pick for Nate, which was better than letting him walk for nothing. Well played sir. Tip of the hat.

  • blackwood

I agree complete with that if donnie pulls this silly tmac trade.

  • Mucha

AT LEAST WE’RE NOT LOSING HIM FOR NOTHING!

Well a 1st round draft pick better be involved!

  • dino2008

This is a very very sad day for me. I love Nate Robinson, Kryptonate, Nate the Great….. do you people not remember all of the good he has done for this team. yeah, this is a good trade, but come on folks, nate robinson loves this city so much and the garden faithful love him. Thank you Nate Robinson, shake and bake! I know you will destroy us everytime you play us too, but thanks for everything.

  • davidus1

Why are people getting excited about this? Its a late first rounder, big deal. We could probably have a chance to buy one of these every season. Im not going to get excited until I see that Jared Jeffries has been traded. Until then, we’ve lost an exciting young player for seemingly very little.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

all deals would be final 2morow
    if any deals are made..

  • rocky

let’s say good -bye when the ink is dry.
    which it isn’t

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge
  • Knicks4lyfe8

seriously, holy shit ppl, u wanna get rid of nate robinson for washed up eddie house and a late first rounder that u can buy for 2 milion every year?

NATE ROBINSON PLAYS HARDER THAN ANY PLAYER WE’VE HAD IN THE PAST 8 YEARS. HES THE ONLY PLAYER WHOSE HARD NOSED AND DOESNT TAKE ANYTHING FOR ANYBODY. YOU PEOPLE ARE FRICKEN RIDICULOUS IF YOU WANT THIS DEAL TO GO DOWN. MIKE DANPHONY AND GO SUCK A BIG D, HES A STUPID LITTLE CRY BABY.

  • swtnes34

Gotta be a third team involved…

  • BiggieSmalls

Yeah… It’s 3 mil to buy a late first rounder

    hopefully it’s a 2012 first when the C’s suck

Now this is a holy cow!!!!

    http://realgm.net/src_wiretap_archives/64782/20100217/wolves_interested_in_darko_for_cardinal_swap/

This freaking guy Kahn is a str8 loon!!! lmaoo

  • Rene

Great news,I hope all deals go through, our locker room is in for a change.Just think all the bad attitudes we remove in one day.
N8,Al,Huhges,Darko,JJ and we get more athletic and expirence.Tmac,HouseThomas,Pargo and Scalopini.,SRod plus we get two max contracts free agents and Celtic #1
Just getting rid of those guys should make the team more mature on the task at hand ,no more fooling around on bench and more focus
    Future team
    Pg-SRod,Rubio trade?
    sg-Tmac,Lebron,Chandler
    sf- Lebron,Gallo,Cjandler
    pf-Thomas,Chandler,Gallo
c-Lee,Bendor and soon to be traded next Curry
All we need is a point

  • MrFurious

MIKE DANPHONY AND GO SUCK A BIG D, HES A STUPID LITTLE CRY BABY.

Sounds like you need “the pacifier” little boy.

  • barnaby8787

I saw that on espn before. Idgi but who cares really, lol.

  • barnaby8787

I’ve been saying for a while send jj and TD to OKC for etan thomas…

  • fauci933

Agreed. He was constantly a fun presence and brought charisma and personality to a team that lacked heart. And he gave us a Knick to root for for the last 3 years during All-Star weekend, as well as 2 memorable dunk-offs. Good luck Nate.

  • ufwop28

SHAKE AND BAKE his way to Boston…we need leaders on this team…especially at PG…his late game antics, i.e. turning it over and taking wild shots, have frustrated me beyond belief…i cant wait to watch this transformation complete itself over the offseason…2010 2010 2010…its time fellas

  • BigDaddybluesman

    Exactly

  • ufwop28

way too much speculation….why not add Wade to that lineup? im just sayin

  • young hova

Nate plays harder than any we’ve had in the last 10 years? That’s like being the world’s tallest midget

  • fauci933

Damn dude chill out. I love Nate but he’s kind of a novelty player. He’s fun and plays hard but he’s not all that invested in the team mentality, he just loved being in NY, and who wouldn’t. He was a sparkplug who could light it up in bunches. I hope he does well, but I don’t think he’ll be the missing cog in a contender’s gears that’s gonna win ‘em a championship. Quit whining about D’Antoni, he’s doing fine with what he has.

  • young hova

Which it’s possible Nate actually is

  • rocky

I would not bite on the Darko for Cardinale deal,
    unless it’s Claudia Cardinale’s daughter.

IF all these trades go down Darko might actually be forced into Playing time,
if not he’s gone at in 29 games. Cardinale is another big forward who
    doesn’t do much.

  • Jack D

well i doubt theyre gonna suck..i see them doing what the spurs did with jefferson (although thats not working out) and trading with a team that is desperate to save money. hopefully it’ll be a mid 1st rounder (18-22ish)

  • Rene

    I meant Cardinal not Scalopini.

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

what’s good knowledge, yea man, that’s w/o a doubt a bluff move…lol…idk why we acting like hill is the second coming of Kareem…lol, ship mikki moore jr already…..lol….

  • Jack D

how many stories have changed these past 2 days, its making me crazy! (and frustrated)

  • fauci933

Yeah you can’t just list tons of player names because you heard them in rumors. Apparently we’ll have Rubio, S. rod, TMAC, LeBron, Gallo, Chandler, Lee, Ty Thomas, and Bender?

  • Knicks4life

Agreed. I’m happy with the 1st round pick.

Still don’t like the Hill deal as proposed.

  • HaS

    That’s a stretch.

Maybe it is x-mas for _’antoni.

  • Rene

Wait till Friday the only speculation left would be Lebron.

  • fauci933

Who the f*ck even wants Bender, take him off the fantasy list.

  • Jack D

in all honestly, that article doesnt deserve to even be written unless it is finalized. like who really cares about darko/cardinal lol

  • Knicks4life

No one is a bigger Nate fan than me but he didn’t have a future in NY.

Blame the coach, blame Nate’s maturity, blame the fact that we don’t have a real PG, but Nate’s future was not here.

I absolutely hate the fact that he is going to Boston though. I hate Boston.

  • barnaby8787

I’ll take cardinal’s ability to shoot the three and slightly more cap room over darko…

  • ds2488

Lol. I thought we had nothing that the Twolves would want according to Kahn. I guess not, we have Darko!!! We should tell him no way, unless Rubio is coming back to us for Darko lol.

  • Knicks4life

Celts are def on the decline.

Ray Allen is a free agent at season’s end. KGs knees seem to be going.

They will still have Rondo though and he is a hell of player.

    I like the trade.

  • ufwop28

yeh okay…just cus he penetrates doesnt mean he plays hard…his D is worse than David Lee’s….KISS HIM GOODBYE…finally…we need winners, not slam dunk champs

  • Knicks4life

Darko is a free agent, how would we get more cap room?

  • nydblockny

    if i was donnie…

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjkn3zh

knicks send JJ, Hill and Hughes to the Rockets
Rockets send tmac to the Knicks

Knicks send nate to the celtics
Celtics send eddie house and marquis daniels to the knicks

knicks send al harrington to the bulls
bulls send tyrus thomas, pargo and james johnson to the knicks

IMO knicks shouldn’t have to send 3 1st rounders to the rockets (hill, swap + 2012) but i wouldn’t be mad at the swap

knicks should get a pick from the celtics

knicks prob will need to send a pick to the bulls

  • Jack D

    via Real Gm:

“A source said that the Rockets are now leaning toward not trading Tracy McGrady because they have not received an appealing enough offer to pull the trigger.

Contrary to previous reports, the Knicks are unwilling to put their lottery pick Jordan Hill in the trade.

Since the Rockets do not have a better offer from the Bulls, Houston may be keeping the door open to retaining McGrady as a way of forcing the Knicks to include Hill or otherwise upgrade their offer before Thursday’s deadline.

The Knicks would like to have a look at McGrady but, perhaps more importantly, pare the $7 million salary of Jared Jeffries from their 2010 payroll. The Rockets would go under the luxury tax if the team finalizes a trade with New York.”

  • ufwop28

    well said fauci…i agree

  • Jack D

that pick from boston better be a 1st..a 2nd rounder would be like pick # 55ish

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL BOOOOOOOOOOOOO JORDAN HILL EVERY TIME HE GOES IN THE GAME, IF WE GET STUCK W/ BUM ASS JEFFRIES FOR ANOTHER YR….. :(

  • LBJ2010

Lots of posturing going on. This one’s going til 3 tomorrow.

  • gbaked

i believe this is known as a little game called “chicken”

  • gbaked

the definition of a true fan

    /snark

  • barnaby8787

Cardinal’s contract is also an expiring but of less value, but it still work salary cap wise…saving a few hundred grand…

  • ufwop28

lol….you cant blame Hill though…he could be a good fit with alot of teams, including the knicks team next season….he has shown he can knock down the jumper…his defensive intensity is there too…he needs minutes and confidence…but hopefully he gets them in houston the rest of this year….GO KNICKS

  • barnaby8787

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjb6m46

knicks save about 800k…may not sound like a lot but it could be enough to sign someone like morris almond next year…

  • barnaby8787

Trade two doesn’t work at all….nate’s contract is worth 2.2 mil in a trade….

Trade three doesn’t work. The bulls want a first with harrington for tyrus and cap filler, so they won’t throw down pargo and johnson even with the first rounder going there

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

MAN, the only thing i will give jordan hill ANY props on, was his defense on pau gasol, the last time we played LA, i was impressed a bit….but offensively the guy is completely lost out there…lol…did u see him last night??? guy can’t set a pick, doesn’t know how to roll to the basket, and has nooo explosion to the basket…..guy was getting his shot thrown every time he shot the ball…BY TYRUS THOMAS……lol….i’m good on him, i’d rather tyrus thomas for the future….he would be a SERIOUS problem in this system a la shawn marion….

  • gohard83

So duhons lack of agression missed shots layups late game 3 pointers bad forced passes out of the pick and roll should have you in the hospital. Say what you want nate is a good player in a bad system. well see what happens when he goes to boston to play. You are right maybe he is not a leader but that does not mean he is not a good player.

  • ufwop28

you have a point…we shall see…but i bet he does well in Boston…but for NY, he and duhon are not the right answers…duhon is terrible, but he is not the topic of trade talks, unfortunately…

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

lol, i’m good on brian cardinal, he’s another bum…lol, whens the last time that man has even played an nba minute???3,4yrs ago??? lol..

ONLY WAY I’D MAKE THAT DEAL, IS OUT OF RESPECT FOR KAHN, AND HOPEFULLY HE’LL GIVE THE SAME RESPECT AND LOYALTY BACK TO DONNIE W/ TRADING RUBIO TO US, ONCE RUBIO SHUTS HIM DOWN AGGGAIN N LETS HIM KNOW HE WILL NEVERRRRRRRR PUT ON THAT TWOLVE UNI THIS SUMMER…LOL..

  • ufwop28

he needs the minutes before you can throw statements out there like that….he was visibly shook last night by all the rumors im guessing…you see the way Lee kept patting him on the head as he checked in and out of the game? I heard Hill was on twitter saying some whack shit about not understanding what was going on with the rumors…he needs consistent play in a rotation where he knows he is going to get X amount of minutes…not some ad hoc method where he doesnt know if hes coming or going…

  • Jack D

i hate this game…i wish i can fast forward until tommorrow. i dont know why i keep reading all these articles when every minute they change.

  • Knicks4life

    Hill is cheaper though.

I agree Hill looks lost out there. But, and I know this may seem like a contradiction but it isn’t, maybe that is why he should be playing more. Nothing beats game experience.

  • gohard83

You must have a low basketball i.q. to say that. I like David Lee but he does not box out does not even jump to block shots 90% of the time is a weak post defender and poor help defender.

Nate problem was he did not fight over screens enough which he is doing now and sometimes misses defensive assignments. I don’t understand why so many people dislike Nate he is not the reason we are bad. We have a mismatch roster if he was so damn bad why in the hell would Boston want him. Any player that can put up 40 plus points in the NBA and is Under 6ft tall is an asset to a good team. Look at J.R. Smith

  • rocky

    one thing is for sure

THEY ALL LOVE THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT IT!

  • ufwop28

“I like David Lee but he does not box out…”

are you insane??? how does he get 12 boards a game without boxing out…i will forget you said that and consider it a typo…because if there is one thing Lee does on the defensive end it is BOX OUT…maybe better than any player in the league…what games are you watching?

  • Jack D

lol yep. hey does anyone think nate will play tonight if the trade doesnt go down until tommorrow? This game would sure be emotional…

  • barnaby8787

D’antoni won’t play darko and it saves us 800k so i’m down

  • ufwop28

“Any player that can put up 40 plus points in the NBA and is Under 6ft tall is an asset to a good team.”

that simply is a fallacy…how does a correlation b/w points scored and height amount to an “asset to a team”?…you say i have a low basketball IQ, but you my friend have a low IQ any way you crunch it…lol…so what if he once scored 50 and was 5 feet tall? would he be more of an asset???

  • barnaby8787

WOW, Mike Conley is available according to espn insider for a “good first round pick”. I wonder if the knicks got boston’s pick, could they ship it w/ TD for conley? Obviously not a good first rounder, but TD is a sweetener..

  • barnaby8787

Btw, Roger Mason wants to go to NY…

  • DinnerDog

I think it’s only right Darko’s last stop in the NBA is in Minnesota.

  • barnaby8787

Duhon, TD, and boston’s first for Conley works…

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

lol, yea i did peep lee doin that allll night to him, n i thought the same thing…lol, “like kid get ur head in the game son”…lol…n yea hill said he’s shutting down his twitter account cause ppl are getting in his head…lol, i was a bit taken back by that…rookie or not, YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL, if u can’t take rumors, THAN YOU CAN’T HANDLE NEW YORK PERIOD….cause even if he does stay, he will be hearing them his wholeeeee career…..not to mention the comparisons to jennings for the the next 10yrs…

n think about it, if we’re making a HUGE run at amare/bosh/boozer n possible fall back lee, where does hill fit in the picture.??? BY ALL ACCOUNTS I FELT LIKE THIS DRAFT WAS TO REPLACE NATE N LEE, w/ douglas n hill…i don’t think they expected the progression of Lee this yr…i think if we can’t get bosh or amare, i’d be fine re-signing Lee…shoot the man runs the break better than duhon does…lol, u see that ish last night???lol

  • gohard83

You try driving to the basket at 5″7 over people that are 6ft or taller on a nightly basis and tell me how much you average. Im not saying Nate is Kobe but the way people talk about him is like he is Jerome James. LOL. Also Lee gets a lot of his boards from being around the rim we lost games this year because he did not box out and the other team got the offensive board. When Z-Bo was on the team he was getting less boards you know why cause Z-Bo knows how to box out watch some tape.

  • gohard83

    LMAO

  • TobyKnight

The Bulls have dropped out of the trade discussion for Tracy McGrady.

The Rockets are now focusing only on draft pick protection, the final area that needs to be agreed upon for the proposed trade with the Knicks to be completed.

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

yea he may be a bit cheaper but not by much, he’s making 4.7 this yr, nooo way he can ask for more than 5mil which would be 1.5 more than hill is making currently…jus for his shot blocking ability i would rather ty….lol, as u seen last night….thomas was blocking shots, running the floor, diving on the ground for the ball…while hill was on the floor every time he touched the ball from getting his shot thrown into the crowd….lolol

  • TobyKnight

Now it’s time for Donnie to turn the screws on Morey.
I would tell Morey that it’s Jeffries, Hughes and his pick – either Hill or the ability to swap firsts in 2011 and 2012.

  • young hova

I say give up Hill, he doesn’t look to impressive to me (I understand he is raw) and that is another $2.7 mill of the cap

  • barnaby8787

But conley gets to the rim and is a great passer…

  • clyde fan

Agree. DW should pull Hill or the pick. Rockets have nowhere to go.

  • x-man

Watch N8 go to Boston and play defense and in better control under a real coach!

Gallo will be crying once he sees that his career is going backwards a under this coach here.

There’s no way, N8 will not play defense in Boston. We saw even Marbury hustling on the floor in Boston last year! When you lack leadership and accountability from the top, it rarely occurs at the bottom.

  • x-man

Of course, The Rockets knew all along they wanted to fleece us since the Bulls did it many times to us. This was a no brainer from the start! I’m our GM was busy telling Houston that too!

  • barnaby8787

Darko for Cardinal set in place. Knicks save 1.8 mil. They will waive cardinal and free up a roster spot.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

the rockets want HILL an a unprotected first round from the knicks..

  • x-man

Yep, It’s wheel and deal time for this GM to start earning his money. It’s all about next year for me. If the GM needs to do these intermediate steps, so be it but he will be judge by me on what team is on the floor in 2010-11. Don’t be fooled by the slight of the hand! Walsh is not Jedi!

Thank You and he just said something bout my b ball I. Q then comes back with that statement

    longtime shakes..

bluff or not the rockets wants an unprotected first round next year or 2012 cuz they know the knicks will get another lottery or mid round pick..

Also, John Salmons has been pulled from the Bulls lineup tonight, likely due to a brewing trade.

  • x-man

Maybe he just has the flu!

  • barnaby8787

    My wishlist:

    tmac
    tyrus
    mike conley

  • dvaldespino

I think that this is a great move. Yes Nate has performed really well, but I honestly don’t think that he is going to be getting any better. Also, his bad decisions have been a continual cog in D’antoni’s offense: With the amount of freedom that players have in D’antoni’s offense, those players have to have good decision making skills. With late game threes (ala Chris Duhon’s wonderful blunder against the Kings), and ill advised passes (what do you know, I’m brought back to Chris Duhon), it’s obvious why D’antoni hates the guy so much.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Nate is a very exciting player, but when it comes down to it, I have much more faith in D’antoni’s system than Nate’s poor decision making, and N8 just doesn’t fit into the former…I’m still skeptical about how this is going to help our playoff hopes (which are honestly on the brink of irrelevancy anyway), but I think that this is a smart decision where not only do we get rid of a player that doesn’t fit, but we get something in return for him, whereas we most likely would have lost him for nothing over the summer.

    GO DONNIE!!!!

  • dvaldespino

by the way when I said that Nate has performed well, I meant statistically and honestly, nothing else.

  • HaS

    TD is trash not sweetener.
