Dan Klores Interview

CLICK ON THE MEDIA PLAYER TO THE RIGHT….

I had the distinct honor of chatting with Dan, who is someone I could have talked Knicks with, literally, all day.

He’s a basketball junkie and a Knicks historian, who goes back a long way with Donnie Walsh.

Winning Time is a treat for Knicks fans who lived and breathed those games. I feel badly for those younger fans who didn’t have the opportunity to think, talk and create strategy arguments about just how the Knicks could stop Reggie Miller. Everyone talked about it… ALL DAY LONG up until the opening tip. Looking at your watch every 10 minutes until game time.

Was Smits going to consistently pull Ewing away from the hoop by knocking down his mid-range jumper? Were Oak and Mason going to win the up front battles over the Davis boys, or could the Pacers really win with Haywoode Workman getting huge minutes.

These games, every one of them, consumed the city. And Winning Time captures it completely.

The film, part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, airs March 14th.

Also, I’d recommend Roundball Culture, which is available here.

Thanks to Dan and Eric Krugley for setting it up.

I’m 21, so I was just old enough to have considered Miller to be the biggest villain on the planet, but at the same time, too young to understand the finer points and individual matchups that make up the game. All I remember is burying my head and crying any time the big bad Reggie threw up a shot against the Knicks. I definitely considered him a bigger Knick villain than Jordan. Jordan you were in awe of you admired him… Reggie just consumed my hatred as a young sports fan.

I’m looking forward to watching this.

I can’t wait to watch this documentary. Reggie was such an amazing villain who inspired such hatred from the garden. I still cringe whenever I hear his voice calling games lol. Those were the good old days.

i could shoot a million holes in this.. but why bother?

i just cant wait for the 30 fo r30 to air.. so we can all gaze in wonderment one past time and move past it..

One prediction –> in the ESPN piece there is no mention of where Alford eventually got drafted.
