Via Sports Illustrated:

“…Which team is least likely to win a title in the next 5 years:

New Jersey Nets 31%

Minnesota Timberwolves 16%

Memphis Grizzlies 15%

New York Knicks 11%

Los Angeles Clippers 5%

FAST FACTS

The Charlotte Bobcats also had 5%…. As of Monday the 7–55 Nets were threatening to match the futility of the alltime losingest team, the 76ers of 1972–73, who went 9–73…. Silver lining? The Pacers (20–43) received only one vote—the same as the league-leading Cavaliers (49–15)…. Perception is that the decade’s losingest team, the Hawks (313–485), could fly high; Atlanta got a mere two votes.

Based on a survey of 173 NBA players…”

11% of 173 players is 19. Elsewhere, certain NFL players have their own thoughts as well (thanks to Dewey from Playmaker for the link.)

Nets have a promising future after this season:

    PG – Harris
SG – Turner (assuming they do not get the no.1 pick)
    C- Lopez
    PF – Boozer/Amare/D.Lee
    SF – C.Lee

    or maybe they go:

    PG – Harris
    SG – Johnson
    C – Lopez
PF – Cousins (who is turning into a beast in college ball – t-a-l-e-n-t-e-d for anyone who watches SEC basketball)
    SF – C.Lee

See what some cap space and holding onto your draft picks can do to you (mostly a jab at I-Thomas than Donnie).

Hard to compare the Nets rebuild with the Knicks. Knicks did not have Kidd, Jefferson or Carter to trade. With a clean slate the Knicks future looks bright to me.

    Cousins over Turner?

    really?

  • SilentJay

Yeah but they could’ve used Lee when he was hot, gotten something better than a conditional 2nd rounder from Boston. I still think that, if handled properly, Marbury could’ve been used as a huge trading asset.
What about Craw and Z-Bo? No way to get a 2nd rounder or a late 1st rounder?
Sure, they’re not as big assets as Jason Kidd or Carter, but I still think a bunch of the players available to DW when came in would’ve been more than useful to get picks back, imo.

Now you’re talking Tommy Dee! This is a great article to put up to spar conversation. However, why didn’t you do this earlier because you’l have to put up the game thread soon.

Yep, I’m being an ungrateful a-s-s in a way but just saying! lol

I agree with the Nets being the paper favorites over the others listed but we know how paper tigers go! If we got rid of our coach, we would elevate to about 20% on that alone.

Get out of the light bro! It’s a train!

Nets have been brutal this year and have an uncertain coach, GM, and ownership situation. They don’t even know where they will be in five years.

Nets have more talent than the Knicks right now but to win championships you need stability and a direction in the organization.

  • SilentJay

    LMAO…I try

  • SilentJay

Thanks to their roster, it takes one max guy (not being Johnson) to turn the Nets into a instant contender. Imo, once this season ends they’ll hire a new coach.
In the Knicks’ case we need 2, and we’d still lack a C and a PG.
Who’s to say D’antoni will last long if he can’t deliver results with the team DW proposes? That would seem unstable to me.

  • x-man

I hear ya but as long as Rod Thorn has some power in that organization, the Nets have a chance to be a very good team in the coming years.

  • x-man

    +1

  • SilentJay

Hope you’re right, but their roster + their cap will make them quite a powerful team. Imagine if they get the right coach. Damn.

  • x-man

Yep, As a Knicks Fan, I’m hoping that Newark keeps them from excelling too much in their approach. lol

Even if Devin Harris can’t get a steal, maybe others in the city will! lol

  • SilentJay

    Amen to that

  • HaS

They’re breaking ground in Brooklyn soon. The Knicks better get their sh** together ASAP.

Mayor Booker from Newark was on joe and evan today and says the Nets could realistically be in newark for 3 years.

Not saying it’s going to happen, but xanadu was supposed to be build 5 years ago.

Tommy – yes really – Cousins is garnering rave reviews on UK – just rave reviews as the season progresses – and watch out for tourney play – right now – Turner has a slight edge – but it all depends . . .

Depends on whether the Nets get the no. 2 or no. 3 pick (if they do not get the no. 1 pick and go Walls) b/c having the worst record – as we all know – does not go to the team with the worst record.

If the Nets get the no.2 pick – they probably go Turner – but man oh man – Cousins is going to be goooooood. Wish we had our draft pick – and no – a loaded draft means good things for those in the teens picking probably get a lottery type pick – our second rounders – by that time in the draft – we will have to be really on our ball to get someone of nice value for our bench that Mike D would actually play. Loaded draft does not mean it extends into the second round.

If it takes 2+ years to build the arena that would make sense. I read somewhere they would be breaking ground some time this year or early next.
