Game Thread: Knicks at Celtics

The Knicks head into Boston on a two-game winning streak and Toney Douglas has played very well. Wilson Chandler will be out and may be for a while, and Eddie House will also sit.

Douglas will have his hands full with Rajon Rondo, but it will be a great test. The Celtics are having their own issues having lost 3 of 5 and are trying to make a last run at positioning in the Eastern Conference.

Via Celtics Blog-

“…This Knicks team has cycled more guys in and out of its rotation than almost any other team in the league this season. Injuries, trades, D’Antoni-ism, there are many causes, but basically your guess of who will be starting for the Knacks is as good as mine.

They have been playing well though of late. They’re 4-5 in the month of March and have impressive wins over Detroit, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. Probably the best moment for NY though was a decisive 30pt win over Dallas on the 13th, from which they are only 1 game removed. Since then they’ve beat Philly, so for a team that was expected to lose, this is probably the highest moral point they’ve had all season…”

Fantastic 1st quarter…I love watching Tmac slowly limp up and down the floor and not really bring anything. Damn, he’s struggling tonight. Why did he play the entire quarter when he can barely move? Just horrible shooting by us and amazing by the Celtics. This is looking like it could get really ugly.

Hey at least Nate is no longer on the team (Mike D’s thoughts to himself) but he seems to really fit on Boston more than he did on the Knicks. Wilson out with an injury which makes two years in a row can really put a damper on a trade or dream of using Chandler to get a Chris Paul.

Why is that? Really good numbers for the year, cheap, young…thats everything he they will need but I still think it will take both him & Gallo with the EC contract to get it done because trust and believe as soon as we start trying to land him others will as well and we dont want to be used by N.O. so they can get more from another team and we miss out! We put Gallo & Chandler with the EC contract and say take it or leave it explaining we dont want to allow ourselves to be used to up the market for him and end up losing out. If they take it great if not then we did our best and we move on.

I also think we can get a little more from them besides CP3 like a second rd pick.

I am just so happy that Al Harrington is getting all of Chandler’s minutes. So happy. It just continues to be a pleasure to watch him kill any offensive continuity and do an even worse job on the defensive end. And now adding stealing Tech free throws from Gallo that could maybe get Gallo going, and missing badly to boot. Wow. I swear Dantoni isn’t watching these games anymore. How is this guy still playing? Why? What does he have to do to be benched? I don’t get it.

JR Giddens looks very good. He may not be a DAntoni type of player because he does play defense. Seriously this kid looks like a keeper. I would like to see Giddens and Douglas and chandler play together next year. Their defense will leave opposing teams with a major headache.

Nice to see the Gallo freeze-out continue. Very Nice coaching. On the plus side, Al Harrington got some BUCKETS. Notice how Gallo doesn’t seem to get the ball when Al plays serious minutes. Very weird coincidence.

  19. ds2488
    Mar 17, 2010, 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm #

It doesn’t seem like the announcers really understand this. Gallo sucks tonight because all his shots “are out of rhythm” according to Breen, and then Harrington sits down and suddenly Gallo’s getting the ball. What a miracle. Does Dantoni realize this?

Whats so bad and sad is that the Celts go right under the rim everytime and get layups with no kind of resistance, the sad is that I have no more fight in me to complain about how David (Stay Puff Marshmellow Man) Lee is the human layup drill. We are getting killed Gallo is most definitely a one trick pony, Al is Al and we are watching a team in the Celts that although they played up and down they are a championship caliber team with 3 all stars and the Mavs are not with no one on the level of Pierce or Garnett in terms of leadership imo. Thats why I didnt get so excited when they beat the Mavs.

Has I agree but lets be real the only reason Gallo is on the team is becuase of Gallo’s father and Mike were good friends and teamates. Mike is here becuase he is supposedly the coach that everybody wants to play for including the Wade and Lebron James of the NBA. I sure didnt want him here if you ask me.

“the only reason Gallo is on the team is becuase of Gallo’s father and Mike were good friends and teamates.”

Nah, I think that theory is given too much prudence. The coach just has an obsession with the 3 point shot and if there’s one thing Gallinari can do it’s shoot. It’s the same reason they gave Roberson a guaranteed contract last year before training camp.

Is this game showing that Chandler is the most important player on this team, or that we have no real PG, or that the coach cant seem to figure out the offense should maybe go through Gallo, or Gallo is just ordinary or all of the above? lol just wondering?

if ordinary is averaging 15 ppg in your rookie season (thats right rookie season) with NO true point guard who knows how to get u the ball .. and no real interior threat to command double teams … then ill take “ordinary”
all that aside .. dont waste your time calling me a Gallo lover again and lets just both agree that charles oakley or mason or even Ewing would never have let Finley get away with that dirty screen on starks/harper and would have leveled him after the play … david lee you are soft as a baby’s bottom

D.Lee – good rebounder, good passing big, ambidextrous finisher, heads up player.

What is he worth as a ’10 FA assuming a salary cap of 53mm?

    One man’s opinion?

    a) 7mm good value
    b) 9mm pushing it
    c) 11mm better be the last piece of the puzzle
    d) 13mm an untradeable contract

Rationale: Cannot take over a game, is challenged defensively, is limited athletically, is not a center and does not match up well at the 4. Excellent role player.

    What do you think?

Kendrick Perkins (6’10″ center) 4+mm per
Anderson Verejao (6’10″ pf) 6+mm per
Al Horford (6’10″ center) 4+ mm per
Andrew Bogut (7′ center) 10mm per

    another gallo lover comment …
    someone explain

david lee has defensive lapses 3-4 per quarter, but is allowed to play all game long in a blowout to pad his already inflated stats

Gallo has a few d lapses early on and D’antoni screams at him, he shoots poorly early (while not even attempting 5 shots in the first half)
and he doent get to play the last 20 minutes of the game
    ….

Those are the double standards that divide a locker room and cause players to quit on a coach.

‘Cause Gallo is going to be here next here. Same reason Hill and Douglas got benched when they made mistakes.

Lee/Harrington/House — I don’t think Dantoni cares to coach them. You could certainly blame him for not disciplining them, but they’re vets — they should know how to play by now. I think that’s how he goes about it.

Just a lot of fun to watch. Al harrington getting more minutes than Gallo. Nice, I know he had a crappy game but it doesn’t help when the offense is just 4 guys standing around watching Al Harrington go 1 on 5. Then Gallo ends up getting the ball out of rhythm and being forced to chuck. Not going to cut it, from Gallo, and especially from Al and Dantoni. Just bad all around. Awesome, do we have Cowabunga time to look forward to for the rest of the year now with Chandler out.

Its Just a thought but Ive been watching Evan Turner since he came back from his injury and hes the goods, hes scary good a mix of Brandon Roy and TMac I would love for the Knicks to make a move for him in the draft.

    Gallo and Eddys expiring contract
    for
Turner and a bad contract i.e. a longer deal than Currys at the same number

If we can swing a trade for Turner we dont need Joe Johnson( 13mil-max) or Rudy Gay (10-13mil) if Lebron stays and Wade we sign Bosh make a trade for Turner and save about 15mil for Melo or CP3 in 2011 depending on how Turner plays in his rookie season hes a franchise player IMO.
