Recap: Celtics 109 Knicks 97

by Tommy Dee on March 17th, 2010 at 9:54 pm

BOX SCORE

From jump the Knicks were out worked, out hustled and outclassed.

Everyone.

This reached extreme garbage time in the third quarter.

The thing that doomed the Knicks from the opening tap was the lack of ball movement and obvious lack of defense. Too much standing around and negative attacking the basket. Too many second shots. No effort.

Defensively, they had no answers up front for Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins, who had their way all night.

Conversely, the Celtics moved the ball all night led by Rajon Rondo‘s 1X assists.

How easy was it for Paul Pierce? 29 points in 24 minutes.

  • JASONHAYES

Meet Bill Walker, I like this kid.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRzBIBiIJcE

  • pak14life

is gallo injured only played 22 mins tonite.

  • HaS

If Walsh refuses to bring in some length on a 10 day contract (probably because he know _’antoni won’t play him anyway) then why not play Bender at the 5? He’s 7 feet!

Instead of trying to match up with the bigger Celtics he goes even smaller?

That’s a signature _on Nelson move.

  • bartnyk

Its Just a thought but Ive been watching Evan Turner since he came back from his injury and hes the goods, hes scary good a mix of Brandon Roy and TMac I would love for the Knicks to make a move for him in the draft.

    Gallo and Eddys expiring contract
    for
Turner and a bad contract i.e. a longer deal than Currys at the same number

If we can swing a trade for Turner we dont need Joe Johnson( 13mil-max) or Rudy Gay (10-13mil) if Lebron stays and Wade we sign Bosh make a trade for Turner and save about 15mil for Melo or CP3 in 2011 depending on how Turner plays in his rookie season hes a franchise player IMO.

  • bartnyk

    Bender is a bum

  • J_Starks3

    foul trouble

  • HaS

Lee is a bum on defense. The Knicks need some length.

  • J_Starks3

That will not happen my friend. There is talk that he is giving John Wall a run for the first overall pick.

  • J_Starks3

Has “the coach” gotten a tech this year??????

No bad intention behind this question is just that I don’t remember.

I guess that is a good trait this coach has.

  • pak14life

    only three fouls.

  • HaS

“Coach”‘s decision. Or should I say double standard?

  • bartnyk

Yea hes real good, but i hear some saying its Wall number 1 overall and Cousins 2 so if Turner goes 3 we have a chance. It will probably be Wall 1 Turner 2 at 2 I think we could have a shot at him for Gallo.

  • HaS

Ah well, Knick fans get to watch Brandon Jennings the red hot Bucks (12-2 since the All-Star break) on ESPN tonight.

I think they have been on national TV more than the Knicks this year. I wouldn’t have guessed that at this time last year. Awesome.

  • pak14life

dont worry we will be on nat tv every week next year.

  • x-man

My source tells me that our coach is yelling these words at the ref in front of the cameras

“HEY HEY, Why are you calling things against bums, they aren’t even my guys! You Refs doing a great job and I’m just trying to look like I care. I know I should be addressing my team on this but I have DVJ and Tommy Dee to defend me so as long as I look like I care by appearing to be arguing with you Refs. Feel Me Playa?”

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

Bender is at best a practice player. Boston looks like they’re slowing rounding into form. Knicks can’t hang with that no matter who gets minutes.

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

    *slowly

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

He has a good rapport with the refs. They let him get away with a lot. You’re right, that’s a good thing.

  • blackwood

I would love Turner but if we could trade Gallo for him that would be the biggest heist in the history of the draft!! He has been called a 6’7 LBJ. Those skill sets are off the hook that guy will be a 20pts 8reb 4ast guy!

  • blackwood

Damn Jennings,Jennings,Jennings =( what could have been!!

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

The double standard exists for Gallo/Douglas who will be here next year and get coached. The losers, Lee/Harrington/House, are as good as gone and don’t get the same coaching. You might not agree with it but that’s how it is.

  • blackwood

You guys hear what Mark Jackson (a true all time top PG) just said about him (Jennings) Lets see what Gordon looks like as well.

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

I don’t care about Jennings. I’m focused on Bogut. Holy hell what a difference from what Lee provides on defense.

  • cragganmor

No effort on D, no effort on offense, either.

I did like what little I saw of Giddens in around 12 minutes, looks like he can slash and play some D, still has upside to his game. What was he woofing to Pierce about?

  • Knicks4life

Gallo and Eddie Curry for the #3 pick?

Only if the Clips get it.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Hey its just another game, another putrid, defenseless performance. But if you look on the bright side we are getting closer to July 1st if we close our eyes and just imagine. Hey its better than kickin the tv or the cat lol I’ve watched the NBA and I don’t remember a game where one team scored more points right directly under the basket as the Celts did. Makes you wonder if Lebron or Garnett was on this team would they allow their team mates to play like they did tonite without getting in someones face.

  • Knicks4life

So Chandler is hurt, Nate is traded, Duhon and Sergio are on the bench . . . who is freezing Gallo out now?

1 rebound in 23 minutes from your starting PF is beyond pathetic. Make all the excuses you want. And with all those guys out he still only took 9 shots.

At some point it isn’t everybody else . . .it is you.

  • Knicks4life

By next year the Knicks would have solved the NBA labor crisis and global warming just by signing a superstar.

  • pak14life

9 shots in 23 min isnt bad. Patience wit gallo. Just look at the recent nytimes article where dirk says gallo is better then me at this point and don nelson doesnt think that gallo will be a bust either.
Hes starting to get better. I see him as a 3 not a 4 moving foward. Not strong enough to guard 4′s like kg. But can guard joe johnson, igoudala, durant etc.

  • pak14life

chandler is more of a four then him and mike d has said that he sees chandler as a 4 moving foward. Never said this about gallo.
I feel like next year u prolly see td-gallo-lbj-lee-camby (championshipimo) lbj and gallo switch sg and sf depending on the opposition.

  • Knicks4life

Have you seen Gallo run. You really think he can be a SG?

Didn’t Walsh say he evisions Gallo as a 4 when he drafted him?

  • boomshanka

Hill had 9 points and 9 boards in 20 minutes for Houston in a win tonight. It’s a shame the Knicks had so much talent on the roster that he couldn’t get PT here. Maybe we would have gotten more for him and two picks than just cap space.

  • x-man

Have you seen a pick or screen run for this guy yet? If you do please let Gallo know!

Gallo at this stage of his career cannot creat his own offense consistently and he is too unselfish and will pass the ball most of the time when his opponent gets up on him.

A good coach would find creative ways to free this dude up.

Did you watch how many screens and picks are set for Ray Allen? He’s quicker, has a quicker release and yet the team sets screens for him. Once again, it does not matter who is on the floor, they ALL play dumb under this coach!

  • x-man

Hey, we got T-Crac Knee. ee-i-ee-i-o!

  • oscar f

Get over it he is no longer a knick. Im more focused who is going to be a knick next season. I missed the game. Did TD play well? Based on the comments I know Gallo didn’t play well.

  • oscar f

Even with all the knicks assets that will be a hard task but not imposible. It all depends on who gets what pick.

  • Knicks4life

    1 rebound?

Do you blame D’Antoni for that too?

    How about 1 assit?

I don’t hate Gallo I just expect more from the kid. Especially now . . . how many plays do you think Gallo will have run for him next year when the team has actual stars on it. Or is Gallo just going to be a 3pt Kapono type specialist. If not he needs to improve his all around game while he is getting the PT

    Seriously enough with the excuses.

  • jgilch82

    @Knicks4life

since u CLEARLy didnt watch the game and just looked at the box score i will tell you what happened
gallo started 0-4 .. coach D’umtoni took him out with a few minutes to go in the 1q .. and reinserted him with a few mins to go in the half .. 2nd half he played some of the 3rd quarter and that was it …

TOO BAD he doesnt get the chance to play 44 minutes in a blowout while doing nothing on the defensive end like LEE does … he would have had 20 and 7

  • jgilch82

but i know you must be correct .. we should have drafted a 6’3” shooting guard who has a 1/1 turnover ratio and doesnt rebound well (Eric Gordan)

  • jgilch82

anyone else notice Dantoni trying to “RESPECT” the vets ..
Duhon and Al playing for contracts ..
AL plays most of the game and DuDu actually gets some burn

  • Knicks4life

I guess Adeleman doesn’t subscribe to that “it takes 22 year old big men at least a year to develop” theory.

  • oscar f

Wow Im glad i missed this game and to think I wasa mad that I missed it. I heard Giddens played. Did he look sharp? Still no word on TD so overall this must have been an unwacthable game. If the game is a blow out then the coach should be playing the young guys to develop and scout them instead of letting Lee pad stats if thats what happened.

  • oscar f

I really like Gallo and I still think he will be very good even better than Gordan but Lopez was the best pick at that spot and he is easier to build around. Gallo coulld have been ahd a a much later pick. GM’s who picked like 8 spots after the knicks said they wasn’t gonna pick him.

  • ds2488

I don’t think its excuses as you say. The fact of the matter is this offense does not use Gallo to the best of his abilities, he doesn’t have the ball in position to make plays for others a lot, as its primarily the pg and Lee that has the ball to do that. I agree, his attacking the board is weak and he really struggles to create for himself right now. But he’s still averaging 5 rbs per game, which is a good number for a small forward. He had a bad night no excuses, but it doesn’t help to spend most of the game standing off to the side watching Al Harrington go 1 on 5, and then touching the ball and feeling like he needs to shoot. And the guys still young, just past 82 full games, still awkward physically, still probably in between positions, and still having a decent year all things considered. i just think patience is the key with him, and he is going to be inconsistent until he has somebody who consistently gets him open looks and will get in his face if he is not getting into the offense like he should.

  • boomshanka

Well, I’m still getting over Isaiah’s moves and it will take awhile before we know if this was a good or bad deal. DW and DA are still in charge, and it bothers me that they didn’t give him a look. Adelman rewards effort, not just the number of 3 pt tries.

  • Knicks4life

Actually I listened to the game on the radio.

But what does that matter . . .1 rebound is 1 rebound. 1 assist is 1 assist. Did anything you just typed refute anything I am claiming.

I could care less about D. Lee’s stats. At this point in the season I’m focused on Gallo, Douglas, Wil, and Walker.

Why does me pointing out Gallo’s struggles automatically turn into a Gallo v. Lopez or Eric Gordan debate. I’m talking about what Gallo needs to improve on, who cares about Gordan?

I read people saying that Chandler was the reason Gallo wasn’t playing well. He was defering too much to the vets (Al and Duhon). He was being frozen out by the PGs and nate. Now those guys are gone and Gallo is still struggling and people are blaming the coach, claiming Gallo is hitting the rookie wall (in his second year?) and claiming he only played 23 minutes so somehow he was incapable of getting more than 1 rebound or 1 assist? He is the teams starting PF and supposed building block that we wouldn’t even consider trading for Chris Paul!!!

  • ds2488

Bad game. Just counting down the days until Al Harrington is gone. Im afraid I am going to suffer from Stockholm syndrome when he leaves and actually miss him. But damn, he is really horrible and makes the team unwatchable. At least Jeffries didn’t dominate the ball. I just still can’t get over that this guy has not been benched or that no one on the team or coaching staff seems to have said anything to him about how horrible of a team player he is. He’s probably really tough to approach with something like that though, he probably thinks he’s better than Lebron and its everyone elses fault that they are losing. What a bum. Whoever decides to pay this guy next year is in for a real treat.

  • Knicks4life

Can we agree that Gallo is a PF now. Or at least with Chandler out he will be a PF for the rest of the season.

Playing the 4 spot he needs to average at least 7 rbs per game. From what I was hearing, Lee was the only one grabbing any types of boards tonight. One rebound is pathetic.

Maybe I’m being to hard on Gallo, I’ll watch the Knicks in 60 tomorrow morning, but something tells me that what i heard is what I will see and all the Gallo excuses will fall on deaf ears.

  • blackwood

ummmmm….ARE YOU GUYS WATCHING JENNINGS!!! Kid is making a movie out there!! Did someone say the could care less about watching Jennings its about Bogot?? My man!!! You think its an accident that Bogot is having a career season during Jennings rookie year??? People can try to throw dirt on this kid all they want he is a star and a true PG!!

  • ds2488

No your not wrong about tonight. If you watch everything you said and heard will be correct. He was bad tonight, and didn’t do the job. I just think you are going to go mad if you judge Gallo or Douglas or even Chandler on a game-to-game basis. These guys are young, most young guys are inconsistent. Gallo probably will be the 4 moving forward, he hopefully will average 5 rbs a game. Here’s the thing though: The Knicks haven’t had a 4 this year who averages more than 5 rebounds. If you think about it they’ve gone from JJ to Harrington to maybe Gallo now. Lee is a machine in there, and anyone who watches will see how he gobbles up rebounds from his own teammates. No excuse for 1 rebound for Gallo tonight though, he was just plain bad.

  • ds2488

nobody is throwing dirt on Jennings that I know of. That kid is damn special, but no joke Bogut is the MVP of that team. You are probably right, Bogut is playing well because he has a true pg now, so in that sense it is Jennings. But I have seen too many games where Jennings is like 1-10 or 3-13 from the field and they still win, because Bogut is just a beast in there and they have sick role players, probably the best in the league honestly. They all play crazy defense. But anyway, Jennings is sick, its taking nothing away from him to say that Bogut is that team though, because Bogut is truly a top 3 center in the league right now in my opinion.

  • Knicks4life

Jennings is the real deal. He has been imposing his will on his team all season.

Every year I beg the Knicks to draft a PG with their lottery pick. Every year they do not, they pick a forward and people say. . . don’t cry over spilled milk its over.

Its funny how people say you can’t blame Donnie, GS stole Curry from us completely ignoring the fact that the Knicks should have traded down and drafted any number of PGs or just traded out of th for a future first round pick.

  • Knicks4life

“nobody is throwing dirt on Jennings that I know of”

Lol, how long you been following TKB man. Everyone from Tommy ot DVJ was disparaging Jennings.

  • jgilch82

i here ya we need more from him ….but by the same token u cant compare him statistically to all sophmores, because this is his FIRST FULL SEASON in the nba …. but how much more can we expect from a 21 year old player in his First full season in the nba coming of major back surgery.
if u want to laugh /… next game u watch take a look at how many uncontested rebounds that D Lee just rips away from Gallo when they both go for it and then looks at gallo like’s mad he would dare go after it … its hysterical really

if gallo finishes the season in the 5-6rpg range i would be happy,,, bulks up over the offseason, and he should be ready (hopefully) to bang with with the big boys by next season

  • Knicks4life

Not judging Gallo based on one game. I have been saying all year that he is not aggressive enough on the boards and is terrible at grabbing rebounds in traffic.

Notice I’m not judging Douglas based on what sounded to me like a bad game for him or even Bill Walker. Not enough body of work on those guys.

This is a consistent problem with Gallo that he should be rectifying in this lost season.

  • jgilch82

@knicksforlife what u watch in 60 watch all the rebounds Lee gobbles up from Gallo im telling u .. and this is no exaggeration ,, he could avg easy 3-4 boards per game

i here ya we need more from him ….but by the same token u cant compare him statistically to all sophmores, because this is his FIRST FULL SEASON in the nba …. but how much more can we expect from a 21 year old player in his First full season in the nba coming of major back surgery.

  • jgilch82

sorry semi double post with an addidtion
im really fuked up .. gnite my fellow knick fans
    viva la July 1st

  • Knicks4life

“next game u watch take a look at how many uncontested rebounds that D Lee just rips away from Gallo when they both go for it and then looks at gallo like’s mad he would dare go after it”

David Lee is a stat padder, I agree. But that still does not excuse 1 rebound from your starting PF. Maybe i’m just crazy. Maybe it is everybody else’s fault but Gallo’s that he doesn’t move without the ball, can’t grab rebounds, and is so tentative that Jarred Jeffries used to get more shots than him. He refuses to post up smaller players (Hinrich) and when he makes a great pump fake and a player jumps past him does Gallo drive to the hoop. . . no he fades back to the 3pt line and shoots a 3.

Isn’t this supposed to be Gallo’s team? Didn’t Mike D say that Gallo’s play would help to attract a major FA? Hasn’t Gallo been starting and playing major minutes all season?

  • ds2488

I was saying it hasn’t really been much of a problem this year. He’s averaging 5 boards per game which is what, 2nd or 3rd on the team. I know he doesn’t really attack the boards well, but he manages to get rebounds. Plus, unlike Lee or Chandler or Harrington, Gallo occassionally boxes people out which doesn’t really help his rebounding stats but prevents other guys from slipping past them and getting offensive boards. Plus, its his first game as a power forward going against Kevin Garnett of all people. Not exactly an easy matchup. I just wish Gallo had more time earlier this year as a power forward if they are planning on moving him there.

  • ds2488

lol. Very true. My bad. His shooting percentage is rather low though. But he is a special player.

  • Knicks4life

Eddy Curry averages 5.3 rebounds per game for his career over 25.4 minutes. And if you actually watch him play he is a pathetic rebounder.

I’m sorry but I want more from Gallo than from Eddy Cheesburger.

  • ds2488

lol. I agree with that but Gallo is the same size as some of the cheeseburgers that Eddy eats lol. He needs to put on some muscle and grow into his body so he’s not as skinny and awkward and he will be fine I hope at least.

  • x-man

Dude, Surely we ALL want more out of Gallo. The thing some of us are saying is that this coach does not make thing easier on offense.

We ALL know that Gallo is not very quick and he needs spacing to be effective on offense. I would like for the coach to use his strengths for starters. Yet then to spend the off season getting stronger, working on his footwork and learn how to put the ball on the floor for a spot up shot rather than relying always on the 3s. Teams will play him differently so he has to make the adjustment.

The ting with Gallo is he’s young and only in the league for a few years and he really needs a coach that knows how to get the best out of what he can do for now.

The day i see the team setting picks for this dude and getting him the ball in rhythm on or off of picks/screens, that will be a day I can see what this dude can really do,

  • x-man

Dude you’re not watching the games! Gallo has been ignored in this offense for a better part of the year. He is too unselfish in imo. Yet, the coach does absolutely nuhtin to help this dude.

Didn’t ya hear that Doc River put in a play or 2 for N8 from day 1 in Boston. One of the plays he took from what N8 did in NY. Now that’s a coach! He’s even catering to what his bench players do. Gallo can’t get plays for him and he starts!

That is why on this team, the selfish players get the ball and most of the shots. It’s a wide open offense that has no real purpose other than first get it , first shoot it!

  • jgilch82

    nvm immm backkkkkk lol
so whats your overall point … Gallo Sucks .. is an NBA bust of a pick?
he’s a SF right now transitioning to the PF
and not doing a great job of it ….
he actually moves well without the ball when getting into proper post position.
and in a hlf course set.. its clear as day that the offensive scheme has him just standing in the corner…
and dont u think he’s offensive IQ will continue to improve in regards of when to drive and when to shoot bczu i believe your seeing in a tad bit on a game by game basis… i just dont know what point your trying to make … if you think im completely wrong on why gallo is struggling now and the upside he has listen to the nba tv guy … the tnt guys …. are they wrong too?
he’s a 3 being forced to play the 4 simple as that … if he had 3 more rebounds by ripping then from D Lee would u feel better?
hes pulling down 5rpg as a SF in my mind … let this kid have a full training camp of strength and conditioning training and then when he adds 25 lbsof muscle and is still only grabbing 5 rebounds per game i will assist you in throwing him to the wolves lol

  • x-man

I think Knicksforlife is watching ALL the games on radio with the volume turned down!

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

watch like 5-8 mins on the game b4 the half
i knew it was going to be ugly when garnett was playing like he was a wolf again.

  • prettyToney

What about that Duhon to Lee act we had to watch in the 4th, Lee clearly padding his stats and Duhon helping him out. Lee taking 21 shots is never a good thing.

  • blackwood

Somebody had said they could care less about Jennings and that Bogot is the story, I agree that Bogot is having the season of his life but it is because of Jennings. That kid is the truth and only getting better, It’s like he is flying on the court but knows where his whole team is.

Just shows you why I keep saying the same thing every day, do everything you can to try and get CP3 Knicks!! You did whatever it took to get under the cap (including blow and trade draft picks) So do the very best thing and build this team from the PG up!

    Think about this…

    pg)CP3
    sg)Manu
    sf)LBJ
    pf)Gooden
c)Solomon Alabi (draft check him out I think he is the one)

Yes we can afford it If Manu is taking say 4 mil, if not there are other option but I think he likes winning and theres nothing like being a champ in NYC.
We can get Gooden for around 3.5, we sign and trade Lee for draft picks (or young talented bench depth) If CP3,Manu,LBJ & Gooden are 39 mil that leaves about 14mil for the bench that has TD on it at 1 mil. So lets say we traded Lee to GS for Brandan Wright 3 mil & Kelenna Azubuike 3 mil that leaves 7 mil open which a mil or 2 will go to Solomon Alabi leaving us 5 or 6 mil left open on the books for anything else we need.

    So the team should be….

    pg)CP3
    sg)Manu
    sf)LBJ
    pf)Gooden
    c)Solomon Alabi

    Bench

    pg)TD
    sg)Azubuike
    sf)Walker
    pf)Wright
C)? maybe Brad Miller for the vet minimum?

We could go on a Jordan’s Bulls type run with that!! I showed the math lol but I would enjoy any questions or rebuttal on this view of the future Knicks.

  • blackwood

I think sending CP3 to recruit LBJ and the rest of the team would be WAY more attractive then donnie or can’t-tonie!! lol

  • Mucha

Because he wanted to play only for the Knicks or the Nets – GM’s didn’t want to be stuck in a Ricky Rubio or Fran Vasquez type of situation.

By the way the Clippers announcers said the organization was very happy with Eric Gordon (obviously) but the scouts LOVED Gallinari.

  • Mucha

Well coaches get burnt at the stake everywhere.

Many Celtics fans hope that Doc Rivers will be fired. The same goes for Nate McMillan etc.

Just to put things into perspective – but I agree with the fact that Mike D’Antoni hasn’t done a great job with Gallinari this season.

  • x-man

Hey we got the best coach that every star wants to play for. Send our coach out to recruit since he should be well rested with his 2 year off with pay gig!

  • HaS

Did that even make sense to you when you typed it?

  • Knicks4life

I am not making a complicated point, Gallo needs to improve his rebounding, all-around agressiveness and learn to drive to the hoop more than settling for the 3pt shot all the time. He also has to do a better job of moving without the ball.

You guys fo from 0-100. I didn’t say he sucked. I said he is disappointing. If he didn’t have potential I wouldn’t care.

“let this kid have a full training camp of strength and conditioning training and then when he adds 25 lbsof muscle”

He has a bad back. How is he supposed to add 25lbs of muscle? You trying to kill the kid.
