Game Thread: Rockets at Knicks

by Tommy Dee on March 21st, 2010 at 10:50 am

Both Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill return to the Garden for the first time since being dealt at the trade deadline. Ironically, Jeffries had a few good games for Houston right after the trade and Hill was sitting, now it’s the other way around. Hill has shown promise and will certainly will see action today.

The Knicks have all sorts of injury issues, and will have David Lee back in the lineup.

  • x-man

Tommy Dee, Why does the Rockets not see the 3 pt threat in JJ that our coach saw?

    Does Houston have a problem?

  • x-man

Where’s the JJ Houston Rockets Remix Tommy Dee?

Surely you have the clippings of him shooting a wild 3 and going to the bench for good! I wanna see it playa!

  • ds2488

Dantoni is really a scumbag sometimes. I think he probably didn’t mean it to come off like this, but he just called Jordan Hill a bad rookie and says he has no problems playing good ones, while Jordan Hill refused to admit any bitterness and said he understood Dantoni’s decision…MAJOR FAIL when a 23 year old rookie is more classy and well-spoken than his former coach. I just heard somewhere Chucketts is out of the starting lineup…Don’t worry though, He will be in the game in minutes and will nto come out again because he’s so important to winning for us. We will never, ever get rid of this bum will we?

  • PipeDreamin

i thought those comments were kind of disrespectful too. I hope Jordan comes out big tonight… Obviously I hope we win, but I hope Jordan plays a good game.

Someone said it well on an earlier thread… If we come away from this summer having used our CAP space wisely then saying goodbye to Hill will be worth it. But if we sold Hill/1st round pick just to get rid of Jeffries for cap space and we dont do anything good with that cap space, then it was a waste of potential talent(Hill and the pick). Especially since Jeffries’ contract is gonna be a asset next season since its coming off the books.

  • ds2488

Yeah the trade was way too much of a gamble in my opinion, although obviously if we spend the cap space wisely like you said it will be a great trade. It can really go either way…brilliant trade or awful Isiahesque trade.

  • Hustle

Looks like good McGrady showed up to the Garden floor today.

  • ds2488

I really like what I have seen from Gallo and Douglas. Gallo is so aggressive, I don’t know where this came from but he is a completely different player now. Maybe he’s just starting to understand how to play or maybe he’s just a step quick now that he has his legs under him. But he is just a different, better player now. Hopefully he keeps this up and its not just a garbage time thing now for next year.

  • harris

Typical D’Antoni. Is Toney Douglas a bad rookie? Just wondering since the coach didn’t give him the light of day until recently.

  • HaS

“Dantoni is really a scumbag sometimes. I think he probably didn’t mean it to come off like this, but he just called Jordan Hill a bad rookie and says he has no problems playing good ones…”

Wow. This guy isn’t above anything I guess, how low can you go as a professional to say something so derogatory? That comment even surprises me and I don’t like this “coach” at all. Disgraceful and classless.

Don’t worry _’antoni fans, ignore the pattern. He’ll go back to being a “player’s coach” as soon as he gets “his guys”. What a joke.

  • pedro

    I hate Duhon

  • SilentJay

What about Duhon? He’s playing like crap. I loved the two presents off the inbounds to Ariza.
I think Gallo’s taking a more agressive role realizing that he’s got more room to do what he knows how to do. Without Lee he has room to show what he can do.

  • SilentJay

    Join the club

  • DatNewYorker

    WHY IS DUHON PLAYING???

He does not give us a better chance to win and we are not playing to get into the playoffs and he is not better than SROD. DAntoni is an idiot. We know that Duhon better not be here next year so we might as well keep looking at SROD for the few final games.

  • ds2488

Duhon and Harrington continue to be 2 of the worst basketball players I have ever seen. Hey coach, how about Bad Veterans? WHy do you play them so much? Duhon didn’t even look around on that inbound. Bad pass by Giddens, even worse play by Duhon to just jog away from thhe ball. Terrible. Harrington something bad has happened every time he’s touched the ball. Turnovers, bad shots..He’s the worst.

  • SilentJay

+ My bad, it was Chandler instead of Lee

  • ds2488

Please, take Lee out. He’s getting dominated by Jordan Hill now. Nice job standing around watching that shot while Hill got the rebound. Its called boxing out, but I know you can’t do anything that might hurt your rebounding stats.

  • SilentJay

Is it just mee or as soon as Lee and Duhon paired up the D went completely to crap and Houston got 2 straight looks at 3′s?

  • ds2488

At least he’s scoring to make up for it now.

  • BiggieSmalls

i wonder if Jordan Hill went up and gave a hug to the guy with the mustache standing on the sideline..

  • ds2488

Chris Duhon with a nice -13 on the game. Coach, I think not playing Duhon will hurt him less than playing him for his next contract. You should help him out like you do all veterans and just bench him and Harrington. Then maybe other gms won’t see how bad they really are.

  • SilentJay

Good that TD’s making those rookie mistakese now. They may be games with zero importance for the playoffs, but it’s now Toney needs to make all the mistakes he can now.
I hop his facilitating abilities develop as he grows into the NBA because it’s pretty clear that he’s comfortable driving to the hoop or going for the 3 with confidence.

  • SilentJay

I hope he wasn’t dumb enough to meant it like that, because if he did…. wow. This guy needs PR representation very quickly.
    Unbelievable.

  • SilentJay

David Lee doink his job on D….standing around. Beautiful.

  • ds2488

What a horrible call! Budinger clearly just used his arm to push off and Harrington went straight up. Knicks are getting screwed right now.

  • NoVaCaInE

If this pace keeps up the Knicks will run out of gas in the 4th Qt.

  • Hustle

Haha, it’s great hearing the Italian commentators correcting one another on how to pronounce Chase Buddinger’s last name properly

  • DwaneT

With Hill, Ariza and Jeffries on the floor at that same time, it looks like the Houston Knicks.

  • SilentJay

Yup, Houston’s got a deeper bench and they’ve used it well throughout the game. Walker and Gidden’s haven’t really been on today and it looks that unless Chucketts turns on fire the gas will be out 5 minutes into the 4th.
    Hop not though.

  • ds2488

Im so glad Suckhon and Chucketts are playing. I think they are deliberately trying to sabotage the team. They are so incredibly bad. Its nice to see those 2 dominate the ball when we need a basket. Also nice to see the Gallo freezeout continue with those 2. Only watched it all year.

  • harris

AL HARRINGTON: PASS THE DAMN BALL.

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

tight game DOUG AN GALLO doing there thing

  • ds2488

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Its so much fun to watch no one get back on two straight plays. Just great right now.

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

    how bout that
budinger the perfect celtic all alone for the last 2 houston buckets..

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

thats what happens when your best player aka LEE
is the vocal point on D saying i got this..

  • NoVaCaInE

He’s only taken 7 shots. This Al Harrington hate is starting to get annoying…

  • x-man

Hey dude, It’s 100-100 with nearly 8 minutes to go in th e4th. It’s not about defense. Score, Score Score!

  • NoVaCaInE

    0 Defese NICE!!!

  • SilentJay

It’s gonna come down to the clutch….

  • x-man

    That’s Perimeter McGrady for ya!

  • SilentJay

Too many rushed shots….and now less than a minute left and we’re down….Have we been in a situation like this before?

  • NoVaCaInE

It’s amazing how the well rested player is closing the game out. 7 straight points for Brooks.

  • Mucha

Lucky shots man, I hate Brooks… and Jeffries.

Terrible shot selection down the stretch – Lee and Gallinari should be taking those shots.

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

the knicks are going to lose
cuz danni boy isn’t letting the youth aura on the count
    2much t-crak an lee
shut lee down for the rest of the season along with AL the chuckster

  • NoVaCaInE

The coach has yet to call a play. Everyone is doing what the hell they want.

  • ds2488

Freaking Aaron Brooks! Great defense by Gallo on all 3 of those baskets. That was just crazy. OUr brilliant coach called some fantastic plays down the stretch. Gallo was incredibly ill-prepared and not ready or even wanting to take a shot there. Terrible…Isn’ t the reason for a coach to actually coach and get his best player the ball and make sure he gets the ball and is looking to shoot? Terrible execution down the stretch. The gallo freeze-out continues.

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

it’s all good DOUG is learning
he could learn better without guys like t-crak an lee on the floor

  • SilentJay

Too bad for TD, today he understood what happens when you rush during clutch situations. Growing pains baby, they suck…. He’s gotta keep going and growing.
    Great effort from him though.

  • x-man

Yep, TD is gonna make mistakes for sure. At least he was trying to attack the basket. We now our coach has no clue on how to draw up a play to help the team. Did you see all the 3s jack up when the game was within a pt or two at the end?

  • Mucha

Toney Douglas is a ROOKIE, he should NOT have the ball stuck to his hands down the stretch. Lee and Gallinari should’ve gotten those shots, the fact that TD committed 3 straight turnovers is ridiculous. He should’ve never been in that position – I don’t know if this is Mike D’Antoni’s coaching or TD’s stubborness.

  • SilentJay

Isn’t that what they always do?

  • Mucha

    At least TD is learning.

  • Mucha

    I hate Jared Jeffries.

He killed us when he was a Knick.

And he killed us with his new team.

  • x-man

Hey Tommy Dee, How many 3s did JJ end up with? Accept for that least shot he took, he was used primarily for his defense. Imagine that!

Next time you see our coach, inform him of this please!

  • x-man

He’s learning but it’s all on his own without any real guidance from the bench.

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

yea man thats what they learn in practice
when they attack the basket thats cuz they are doing there own thing
the score was 112-110 houston an they jacked up 3 3′s all they needed was a gallo drive or doug drive that possesion

  • PipeDreamin

damn… tony 3 turnovers down the stretch. it’s ok. thats what this is all about. growing pains. getting them out of the way for next season. tony wants to be THE guy so bad, and you’ve gotta appreciate his guts. he’s just gotta figure out how to harness all his energy. he’ll get it.

we still saw good things from gallo and douglas tonight.

like someone said a few posts above, the ball should have been in either gallo or lee’s hands in the final few minutes.

  • x-man

    YEP

  • PipeDreamin

    hahaha

  • x-man

YEP. Coach Krusty must have been on the celly talking to his guys!

  • ds2488

LOL. That was the best I have ever seen him play. I really believe that guy was created to ruin the Knicks. Our coach killed us even more by continuing to put Al Harrington on the court.

  • harris

This idiot coach wouldn’t know how to give any guidance even if he tried.

  • PipeDreamin

i wonder what that good looking girl w/ the youtube blog about hating jeffries is saying right now.

  • x-man

YEP, more people are starting to see how bad this coach is for this team…finally!

  • PipeDreamin

this one wasn’t about harrington. i know we need a scapegoat, but not him this time. he only took 7 shots in 25 minutes.

  • SilentJay

Oh well, at least you learn from big mistakes. Like I said, he had a great game though.
On that note, not a bad game at all from Hill. Good stuff from him, fighting for those boards, using his body in the post, showing personality on both sides. Hope he keeps growing.

  • PipeDreamin

it really came down to turnovers down the stretch and bad shot selections.

  • SilentJay

Use Walker or Giddens, they werent particular bright spots today.

  • SilentJay

    And that’s never happened before…

  • Anandp1001

Good game, the young guys played well and gained some good experience. Absolutely loving seeing Gallo play great defense against the best opposition night in and night out.

The ball should have been going through TMac or Gallo at the end there.. TD doesnt have confidence making a risky pass in the pick and roll yet which really kills the whole pick and roll offense with Lee at this point. If we’re going to lose, I dont mind seeing it because we got charges while attacking the rim. I like TD’s aggresiveness and that he’s playing off instinct with confidence. In the future he’ll hopefully avoid the contact and kick for an open 3, but i have NO problem at all with him taking it strong into the lane

I saw someone comment that Chandler is disposable and i didn’t agree at first, but I think that if he can bring back a good piece and we can get good value, it’s def worth moving him since we have Walker and hopefully a great FA at the wing.

Once Jordan Hill finds some touch, hes gonna be nasty… he was getting baby hooks all day that just werent hitting the bottom of the net. But hes a difficult guard at that size and with that kind of athleticism.

  • Anandp1001

this coach is the same guy who always drew up great plays for the Suns (and dont say it was all just Nash.)
I have a feeling that hes kind of quit on the year and is just letting his guys play it out… Wait to judge until next year. But yea, its BS when youre paid to coach and u dont even try. I just feel like this is him quitting moreso than him not having a clue how to get guys open shots

  • x-man

    YEP +1 Good post!

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

    gallo not lee
lee is not a go to player
but then again u think BOSH is worth max money.

  • ds2488

    this one wasn’t about harrington?

I will paste his statline from Espn.

    2-7 0-3 0-1 0 3 3 1 1 0 3 5 -6 4

4 points on 7 shots, more fouls than rebounds (5 to 3) and a great assist/turnover ratio of 1/3. Fantastic effort by him.

But your right. Not just on him, but he is a major part of it.

  • x-man

Yes, I will say it was Nash because during the playoffs, That was a big issue with the Suns. They couldn’t get a stop and Nash did what he wanted.

This is not an X and Os coach. He’s just a general 7SOL coach that allows his team to get more shots than then opponents. He’s is not particular!

  • JustinCharles

Hey x-man, in 9 games in Houston, Jeffries has already taken, and missed, three 3pointers while playing 10 minutes less than he did in New York. It’s not like Adelman told him to stop shooting threes.

When Jeffries was on New York, he had games like this all the time. Where, offensively, he would disappear, but on defense he’d take three charges and alter a ton of shots and passes that dont really show up on the stat sheet.

Next time you want to rip on our coach, make up another bs reason please.

  • harris

There are plenty of non “bs” reasons one could come up with to rip on this coach.

  • x-man

How many 3s did JJ take today. I haven’t seen JJ take ANY 3s when I watched Houston play.

JJ was used solely for his defense today!

Next time you want this defend coach, please take your tongue out of his rear before you speak because not only do your words stink your breath does too!!

JJ shot #s here all the time and I would pt them out each game! Where were you then. You surely didn’t open your mouth during those times. I thank you for that! lol

It’s all fun JC, you’ll be the last man standing or knelling defending this awful coach! It is what it is!

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

    yea he was
an he saying the team needs more 3pt practice

  • HaS

    good looking?

    She was average at best.

  • x-man

    JustinCharles,

Yikes! In the Houston last 13 games, JJ has taken 1 (ONE) 3 pt shot period!

Houston has gone 7-3 with JJ not playing in at least 4 of those games.

Does this sound like JJ is chucking up 3s like he did in NY? You need to do your homework before coming here defending this coach. There is NO way Houston would allow JJ to be a 3 pt shooter like he was here.

JJ is used primarily for defense period. He rarely scores in Houston! Figure that!

  • PipeDreamin

haha look, anytime i see a chick interested in the knicks that doesn’t look like a linebacker or cheryl miller, she definately gets the upgrade from average to good looking.

  • Mal

We won the first quarter but loss the rest with one tie.

Tommy check the +plus/-minus points when McGrady was on the floor please

I want to see Walker attack the basket more, Gidden is more active on boards than Walker

TD turnes into the goat this game I hope he learns from it rushing and leaving his feet BUT he was trying to be the hero again I dont mind that but its a team game
There were some bad shots in the closing minutes plus the turnovers UGGG

I had a feeling Hill and Jeffries would have some impact if we loss.

I do like Lowry, he’d be a good addition to this team

  • JustinCharles

Yeah, maybe today. How many games have you seen Jeffries play for the rockets. What I was trying to point out, is that Jeffries has shot a few threes for the Rockets. You just didn’t see them.

There were many games on the Knicks where Jeffries didn’t shoot any threes. Did you say “wow, D’Antoni is using him right today!”. No, of course not. Its up to the player when to shoot. All I am trying to say is that Adelman didn’t tell him to stop shooting, Jeffries just decided not to shoot a three today. It has nothing to do with one coach being better than the other. Just because you watched ONE game that he didnt shoot a three in, doesnt mean this coach figured out the “proper” way to use him.

  • Mucha

Toney Douglas was clearly out-of-control down the stretch, I think David Lee and Danilo Gallinari should have been the focal point(s) of the offense in the 4th quarter. Mike D’Antoni did a very poor job down the stretch today but I think he wanted to give Toney Douglas the benefit of the doubt. But he’s just a rookie.

  • Mal

    Mucha
When has D’Antoni done a good coaching job, today was just par for his Knick career. Did you see how heated he was because J Hill called him out lol. I know this is what we have to deal wit until DW sees the light after next year but Im still rah rah Knicks

  • x-man

Dude, I just gave you the last 13 games for Houston. I saw about 3 of them myself JJ shoot ONE 3pt shot in the last 13 games. I stopped at 13 games because the pattern was there clearly.

JJ was averaging about 3-4 #pt shoots a game here at one pt. You can go look this up and do the homework. I was pting this out every game and teasing Tommy Dee about this.

Just look at my comment to Tommy Dee BEFORE today’s game.
If you can’t see how JJ shot 3s here each game, you weren’t watching. He sometimes he took more 3s than Gallo did. JJ barely scores for Houston!

  • x-man

YIKES! You say it’s up to the player when he shoots? Are you on crack? lol

A coach should always inform a player when he is taking shoots not suited for him. In no way should JJ have been averaging about 3-4 3s per game when we have Gallo and better 3 pt shooters on this team.

By yous statement anyone can just do what they want. Yeah, that’s how it IS on this team with this coach and that is my pt of criticism!

  • x-man

Very good job! Lay off the Sunday best Kool-aid Mucha!

This team too erractic 3s time and time gain when we were only down by 1 or 2 pts towards the end.

We need to have a b-ball clinic in NY to show some of ya what and how this game should be played.
