Knicks at Suns Game thread

by Myles A. Mills on March 26th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Tonight will be the second time Mike D’Antoni visits Phoenix since problems between him and Steve Kerr led to his signing with the Knicks. The Suns have been playing solid basketball as of late, winning 5 straight and 8/10 this month. Nash is Nash, but Amar’e Stoudemire has been playing more aggressively as we approach July 1st. He’s averaged 30 and 10 on 60% shooting this month.

In games like this, as ironic as it sounds, you have to defend. If you get caught in a shootout with the Suns, chances are Nash, Amar’e, J-Rich & co. are going to win. Interestingly, the Knicks have seemed to fair well against the Suns recently. I guess D’Antoni knows his system better than anybody else…

I’m particularly interested in seeing Toney Douglas face off against Steve Nash. We could be watching the point guard of the future develop in front of our eyes, but it will be interesting to see if he can do it against one of the best of all time. Gallo should have a nice offensive game, but I’m not sure how him guarding Amar’e Stoudemire is going to work out.

I haven’t seen anyone discuss this yet, but it seems like Donnie Walsh had a HUGE (Isiah Thomas style huge) mistake last year.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=TradeTalk-090217

Your telling me he went ahead and passed a straight up trade of Nate Robinson / Jared Jeffries for Kenny Thomas expiring contract last year because he was afraid to deal Nate…. and then turns around and flushes away 3 draft picks to get rid of Jeffries and trades Nate anyways?

Even if he had to include a draft pick last year to get the Kenny Thomas deal done we would still be better than we are now. He could have gotten a deal done somehow that was better than what we ended up with this year.

I like the idea of NY having cap space but it seems like Donnie Walsh screwed the Knicks by not having the courage to deal Nate…

Tony D should have a good game tonight. Nash can’t play defense and his backup is just as bad as he is. Question is can Douglas stop Nash and will he get the rookie treatment from the refs.

ap: there are conflcting rumors about whether that Nate/Jeffries for Kenny Thomas rumor is legit.

  • Mucha

I think Lee and Harrington will be guarding Stoudemire – he’s way too strong for Gallinari right now.

Toney Douglas will most probably have a good game tonight.

  • Mucha

Maybe the Kings didn’t want to pull the trigger, we haven’t received any “confirmation” regarding the Nate Robinson deal.

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

You just heard about this? LOL It was reported later that this trade was not even talked about. I wouldn’t get worked up by internet rumors anyway.

  • ds2488

I really don’t think gallo will be guarding Amare also.

Hopefully Toney and Gallo really come up big tonight. This should be fun but I always fear the no-show blowout.

  • Dylan

Ugh I cant stand Harrington on defense. The guy gives literally no effort! He makes D-Lee look like Dwight Howard for crying out loud. I don’t think Gallo can guard Amare either, since he isn’t physical enough. I would let him try though. The only other option I can think of is Bill Walker. Amare would have a 4 inch height advantage, but Walker is tough and will at least put a body on him.

  • HaS

Maybe he goes t _’antoni and asks for the challenge again?

  • HaS

“Ugh I cant stand Harrington on defense. The guy gives literally no effort! He makes D-Lee look like Dwight Howard for crying out loud.”

You’re exaggerating. No one on the Knicks is worst at defending than _avi_. Hands down. Literally.

  • Dylan

I can’t stand Lee on defense, but at least he has an excuse in that he is going up against guys with 5 inches on him. Harrington gets dominated by opposing power forwards. You are right I was exagerating lol but I still don’t like either of them on defense. I really can’t stand Harrington though. The guy just looks lazy out there. Well lazy is being nice, I think CRIPPLED is the word I am looking for! I also can’t stand him on offense. The guy is the most selfish player on the team (and that isn’t debatable). Instead of passing to guys that are standing wide open on the perimeter, he spins down the lane while being triple teamed and flings up a ridiculous shot while falling down! Sorry for the rant lol.

  • harris

Don’t know about that on-Big Al is pretty bad. It’s at least close.

  • harris

Wonder what you’ll say when Donnie gives Big Al another contract.

  • Dylan

I’ll start watching the WNBA instead… Couldn’t possibly be worse than Knicks bball right?

  • harris

LOL-that’s certainly fair-although don’t underestimate the Liberty. They’re probably the most successful team MSG has going these days.

  • HaS

If Lee is back next year I will not watch the Knicks play next year.

If he AND Harrington are back next year I may kill myself.

  • totti

    lee, al, bosh
    no, no, no

  • Knicks4life

Eddy Curry is worse than David Lee.

  • harris

    Who is Eddy Curry again?

  • bob go knicks

he couldnt have done that.Hes a friggn genius, and he never made a mistake in his life.ALSO next year the Knickerbockers are changing their name to “THE NEW YORK DONNIES”

  • DVJ

    Gallo will have 20+ tonight.
Stat will probably have 30 but Lee will be close to him in points and have more rebounds as well.
I don’t know who will win.
Denver is better than PHX and so is Atlanta.

  • BiggieSmalls

Thats Lee’s own propoganda that he is routinely going up against guys 5 inches taller than him (7-2)

Its no excuse anyway.. even if it was true..George Hill at SA goes against guys who are legitimately 7 inches taller.. (Durant) and competes

  • harris

I guess we can’t use that Chuck Hayes analogy anymore after last Sunday’s matchup, huh? Now it’s George Hill.

That being said, I’ve come to seeing it your way with Lee concerning his defense. It has seemingly gotten worse this year to the point where it’s obviously inexcusable at times, regardless of what position he’s playing. His effort needs to improve in a major way-otherwise I don’t see how a team can win anything with him as a key player. For the Knicks it is probably a moot point anyway for next year, although one never knows.

  • HaS

Thank you for the predictions Ms. Cleo.

    just came in
gotta see the second half hope it’s good

  • http://tharealestproductionz.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

yea phoenix is a first round exit
but if lopez plays big i can see them going to round 2

  • HaS

    “Gallo will have 20+ tonight.
Stat will probably have 30 but Lee will be close to him in points and have more rebounds as well.”

1 out of 4 ain’t bad is terrible for a basketball “genius”.

    What happened?
