Game Thread: Knicks at Warriors

by Tommy Dee on April 2nd, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Sorry to do this to y’all…I really am.

By the way. As far as the argument for rookie of the year, Tyreke Evans had been out, but it seems as if efficiency rating carries a lot of weight. Granted, Jennings’ Bucks are playoff bound but in terms of the rating:

Evans: + 19.79
Curry: + 17.78
Jennings: + 14.04

I’ve received a great question often, as I always do, surrounding Curry specifically. What if the Knicks had selected him, do I think that Walsh would have traded him in order to move his cap number and Jeffries as well. Here’s my take.

Job one was to move Eddy Curry or Jeffries. And I believe the decision was made easier because it was Jordan Hill. Walsh said himself he lost sleep over Hill, but it was the right move for the franchise. I believe they would have kept Steph Curry and looked to adding Wilson Chandler along with Jeffries. But imagine if the Rockets demanded Curry?

We’ll know if it was the right move in a few months, but I imagine Walsh would have been kept up for more nights if he had to make that decision.

  • ds2488

Lol. I don’t think DW would have traded Curry. Although that involves an assumption that Curry would have been given a chance to play..And we all know that wasn’t very likely with the immortal hall of famer Chris Duhon monopolizing the minutes at the point.

  • harris

Stephon Curry will play well tonight, but the Knickerbockers will prevail anyway. Don’t hesitate to call your favorite bookie and place a few sheckles on our heroes. Even D’Antoni will look good tonight.

  • HaS

Doubt it. _on Nelson invented the run and gun conscienceless quick shooting small-ball team. _’antoni will probably end up getting schooled tonight.

  • harris

Lol. _on Nelson; _’Antoni; _avi_ Lee-it can’t get any better than this. Tell the old lady to go to bed, grab your favorite adult beverage, and watch NBA basketball at its finest!

  • HaS

But Tommy we’ve got Toney Douglas.

God forbid, we jeopardize last year’s playoff push and pick any higher than 8th last year when they can just buy a 1st rounder and snag the point guard of the future in Douglas.

  • HaS

Yea it’ll either be very entertaining (high scoring) or essentially over before halftime (blowout).

  • BiggieSmalls

i would not have done the deal with Steph Curry either.

Out of the top ten draft picks I think Thabeet is the only other player I would have included..

not Blake Griffin, Harden, Evans, Rubio, Flynn, Derozan or Jennings.

  • BiggieSmalls

this game could be 140 – 120 in regulation.

  • BiggieSmalls

who said Lee has made the knicks watchable over the past two years?

i cant stand the sight of his swiss cheese defense.

Harrington has his chucking shoes on tonite

  • TG

Gallinari is getting abused right now.

  • x-man

Turiaf looks like Wilt Chamberlin! Lee is hideous on defense!

  • HaS

Have we seen even one pass like that by Douglas? Sigh. We had better come out of this summer with either Chris Paul or LeBron (or both, God can you hear me?) or I’m going to be pissed.

  • HaS

Shucks, I was hoping Curry’s block on _avi_ was in that top ten highlight clip.

  • TG

    Whzat ya smokin’ ??

  • ds2488

Sergio is not a pg..He is just out of control. No plan when he’s driving.

David Lee is awful. Add Turiaf to the list of guys who have abused him.

    I HATE AL HARRINGTON.

    That is all

  • HaS

How many times have the Knicks been down 20 this season? Seems like every game.

  • ds2488

HAHA. This team is such a joke…They said Dantoni brought Suckhon in to relax the offense and this bum promptly turns it over like 4 straight plays. What a train wreck!! Al harrington is still the worst basketball player in the world. I will miss this team and their awfulness.

  • Dylan

Thats might be the worst stretch of basketball for a team that I have ever seen! Was that 8 turnovers in like 3 minutes?

  • Dylan

LOL and then he puts the same lineup back in after the timeout…

  • HaS

_avi_ with 19 and 12 yet the Knicks are down by 14 at the half and gave up 65 pts in a half. I can’t wait until his empty numbers are gone next year.

  • ds2488

    LOL. Great first half.

Im beginning to think Al harrington is some type of witch doctor. He just won’t go away. He keeps coming back to ruin everything he touches. He is actually a -19 in 13 minutes. 1 for 7 shooting with 3 turnovers. WORST BBALL PLAYER EVER.

  • harris

He’ll be a “ball mover” though after DW gives him a multi year contract this summer.

  • ds2488

HAHA. The fact that he is aware of how much of a ball hog he is makes me hate him that much more. I really can’t believe that quote. Its like spitting in the face of every Knick fan who has watched the team the past 2 years. He actually made a joke about his biggest weakness as a player and something he can easily fix and something that has definitely contributed a lot to our horrible record since we have acquired him. He’s incredible. I really think I will become a Nets fan if they resign him.

  • traps9

Watching Steph Curry breaks my heart. That’s all.

  • HaS

But would jeopardize last year’s playoff push?

  • ds2488

Oh man. Don’t even bring that up. What a terrible mistake. The worst part of it was that after making the decision to hold on to Lee and Robinson to go for the playoffs, DW traded for Crybaby Hughes to “help” our playoff push, and he ended up destroying us while we were trying to integrate him in to the offense. And Tim Thomas was a useful player for us.

  • HaS

    LOL

  • HaS

Is it me or does _avi_ seem to think he is Monta Ellis lately?

  • HaS

I love Toney Douglas, but he’s not a point guard.

  • fauci933

I did…yes I understand he doesn’t play defense. But like it or not he’s been the top player on our team the last two years, and his offense has kept us in games (and yes I know you guys are huuuge Lee haters, but while he’s on my team, and I’m watching him, I’ll enjoy what he brings to the table until our team is gutted).

  • ds2488

Haha. Lee thinks he’s Tim Duncan the way he whines after every call. Don’t get me wrong..Those 2 players should never be put in the same sentence.

  • HaS

    Every. Single. Call.

    It’s so annoying.

  • harris

He’s really a combination guard. His best position will ultimately be as a third guard off the bench. Still pretty good for the last pick in the first round.

  • PipeDreamin

Im gonna predict right now. Chris Duhon will be wearing orange and blue next year. D’antoni S’s this guys D.

I’d pay a mil to have him as our back-up. He can facilitate.

  • HaS

    Gallinari sucks… on the road.

  • HaS

    Ahhhh… and he awakens!

  • HaS

    Anthony Morrow. Undrafted.

  • ds2488

Morrow has a sweet stroke. He would be great for this team. The best thing about him is he’s not Anthony Roberson. What a bum. Great move to pick him up last year instead of Von Wafer, who went on to play well in Houston.

  • HaS

Douglas was pretty good for the last pick in the 1st round, yes. However he just doesn’t seem confident with the ball looking for people, he can’t create a shot for anyone else. I wouldn’t be worried if he had left school early or something, but he’s a 5th year senior. Not good.

He and Curry has similar roles in college, primary scorer and ball handler, yet Curry looks more aware of where people are on the floor and he seems more confident with the rock as far as passing it with either hand, off the dribble, setting up the offense or in a half court set.

  • harris

There are a lot of adjectives one can come up with to describe Duhon-”facilitator” is not one of them

  • fauci933

Why is everyone singing the praises of Warrior players, all of whom play zero defense and put up numbers inflated by the system they’re in? Anthony Morrow? Really? The kid can shoot and put up bunches of points in a system that plays no D, on a team with a worse record than the Knicks, and you think he’s a steal of some sort? But David Lee is an abomination even though he is raping the Warriors defense right now, putting up the same empty numbers as any Warrior.

And listen, I don’t want him here next year by any means, but our entire team is awful on defense, and our coach doesn’t coach it, so why hate on the one player who consistently puts up good numbers for us.

Gallo and Douglas are the only people on our team that can play defense. Maybe Giddens and Walker to an extent. I’m glad those first two are signed for next season, and the latter two are cheap options.

  • HaS

The way Knicks have been managed in my lifetime, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if _avi_ Lee, Chris Duhon AND Al Harrington were back next year.

  • ds2488

why is al harrington playing? This is comical. He didn’t even bother to get back on that last 3. He’s just jogging up and down the court. Real Team Leader. I wonder why all those golden state fans are booing him like crazy? We better beat them next year, no one boos bad former players as well as NY.

  • HaS

Lee was a 1st round draft pick. Morrow was UNdrafted. Oh and he is helping his team win.

  • ds2488

LOL. HaS you must be loving Lee going for that triple double. He’s the best stat padder I have ever seen.

  • PipeDreamin

you know david lee is trying to get his 10th assist for the triple double when….

  • PipeDreamin

GALLO POSTS AND LEE ACTUALLY PASSES HIM THE BALL

  • PipeDreamin

Gallo goes to the post and David Lee actually passes him the ball!

  • fauci933

Lee is better than Morrow. Morrow can drill threes, good for him, he’s on the perfect team for that. Lee plays just as much D as Morrow is playing, but scoring from everywhere on the court and doing it pretty efficiently.

Morrow is doing the same thing Lee is doing. He’s using his offensive skills to exploit a poor defensive team. That’s why this game is going to end in the 120′s. I’m sorry, are Morrow’s 30+ points somehow more valuable than Lee’s (not to mention Lee’s almost triple-double). Morrow is doing the same amount to help his team win as Lee is for us, the other Warriors are just outplaying the other Knicks.

  • HaS

Again, Lee was a 1st round pick. Morrow was undrafted. He’s supposed to be better. Happy?

  • fauci933

Why not, if I was a couple stats away from a triple double I’d go for it. It’s not exactly easy to drop a triple double. Morrow pulling up for a 3 with a minute left up 14 isn’t stat padding?

  • HaS

Yesssss! He’s the best. Lovely stat line. 37 pts 20 rebs 10 asts and 60+ pts in the paint by the Warriors. Awesome.

  • bob go knicks

    good post

  • ds2488

haha. Thats only because Lee was going for the triple double. Everyone knows not to pass the ball to Gallo. Its called the Duhon/Harrington rule.

  • ds2488

come on HaS. You wouldn’t pay this guy 12 million…Just look at his stat line. He’s incredible. Who cares about minor things like Defense and Winning. Certainly not the NBA gms who wouldn’t pay him last summer.

  • fauci933

Not quite. I don’t care how they got into the league, they were both viewed at one point or another as having enough talent to play in this league. Why is it impressive that Morrow drops 35 on us, but stat padding when Lee drops a triple double that includes 20 boards and 37 points?

  • fauci933

David Lee can’t win by himself, does the rest of the roster not matter? I know he doesn’t play defense, and maybe I’m just trying to play devil’s advocate here cuz I’m not his biggest fan either, but he could easily be a contributing starter on a contending team.

  • harris

The Knicks’ complete lack of emphasis on the defensive end never ceases to amaze. There are times when frankly they’d be no worse off if they just let the other team play by themselves.

Where was Earl Barron tonight? It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t know the plays-neither does anybody else on the team. Besides, what is there to know? Pump ‘em up whenever you can on offense, and let the other team score as quickly as possible so you can get the ball back.

At least Galinari looked alive tonight-must have been the good Italian food in North Beach.

Ah well, in the words of another blogger: “Stay patient my friends!”

  • fauci933

At least someone’s blaming the entire team rather than one player. Thank goodness for that.

  • HaS

Because he’s the center for the Knicks and they gave up over 60 points IN THE PAINT.

_avi_ Lee had 1 foul. He’s a joke.

Do you even watch the guy play on the defensive end at all? It’s not ok because no one else plays defense, have some pride.

  • HaS

He wouldn’t start on a contender.

  • HaS

The “entire team” can’t put Barron into the lineup when they’re well on the way to giving up 60 pts in the paint… again.

The “coach” has to do that.

  • x-man

If watching tonite’s game doesn’t help ya understand that this type of b-ball is not championship style b-ball, you’re hopeless.

RalpheAL was asked what happened tonite and he stated that the Warriors just hit their shots! YIKES! It’s amazing this coach can’t even to get his players to see that players hitting their shots is expected when you play little defense.

Even Gallo stated that we were playing really good defense but they hit their shots. The coach should be fired tonite for having a team spew such dumbness!

Which bring me to my DAILY rant, FIRE THIS COACH….NOW! I don’t need new material, we need a new coach! lol

  • harris

Agreed-why not play the guy a few minutes? What difference could it possibly make? For that matter, why does Giddens barely play? D’Antoni should just forget about Eddie House and Duhon already, and give the young guy some minutes. It is completely ridiculous that at this stage of the season we have a game where Duhon plays 33 minutes, while Giddens is only getting 5 minutes.

You had this game pegged from the start HaS. I guess our heroes “will get them the next time”.

  • x-man

The coach is a more joke because he lets Lee stay in the game to run up his stats without playing defense. I guess he’s trying to raise Lee’s asking price to return here and take money away from real prospects.

Never have I been so disgusted with a bogus triple double. I’d take a triple scoop instead from Mr. Softee!

  • x-man

He’s been doing this all year so why should he change now? He still won’t get a defensive coach!

This guy is beyond stubborn! I want Isiah back! waaaaaaa lol

  • harris

Thank goodness the Mets are starting next week. It will give us something new to complain about.

  • DVJ

This guy David Lee put up some huge #’s tonight.

  • x-man

lmao! Another team with a world of “IFs” that has to occur! I think this is our year this time! lol

  • x-man

You want to revise your 30-35 game win total for this team? If they win 4 out of the next 7, you’re a genius. If they don’t you’re just our DVJ!

  • DVJ

LOL….it’s not looking good right now. I actually had the Knicks winning this game but they lost it.

I still think those Lee #’s are crazy.

Yo, is Bosh that much better of a defender than Lee where we should give him almost $5 million more than Lee will probably get?
Of course if Lebron says he wants him it’s a dead issue and we just have to get him but Lee……wow.

You can’t call this game a fluke with that stat line.

  • BrooklynFinest1

How great are numbers when the team always loses big in more than half of the games that Lee gets his double doubles? Is it all Lee’s fault no. But he is the face of the Knicks next to Gallo. Lee puts up incredible numbers on a team that may not reach 35 games again and plays zero defense. Like Has said when your pf or c allows not only opposing pf or c to score at will in the paint with no resistance Lee even allows the oompa loompas to get some shine too. And being he is the last line of defense its even more blatant. So that’s why he get on him. Oakley never had a real great offensive game but one things for sure he played his heart out on defense. He took pride in it. When as a fan you seen players give no quarter in the paint not only on our team but other teams and Lee shows nothing but gets nice numbers how can you not be angry.

  • BrooklynFinest1

At this point give me Brook Lopez brother that’s in PHX or Marc Gasol. They may not get doubles but what they do on the court does have a positive impact on the team in terms of wins. But I may get killed by the few for such blasphemy. I’ve said it before and I will say it again stayin patient is out the window when there is a possibility we won’t have anybody great on the team from free agency which means Mike has to coach for a change and gameplan with 2nd level or lower players. But I guess Donnie’s motto is stay thirsty my friends.

  • HaS

“You can’t call this game a fluke with that stat line.”

Nope. It’s not a fluke, whenever he has a “huge” game the Knicks lose.

  • fauci933

    Yea he would.

  • fauci933

Agreed, I wasn’t defending D’Antoni, I’m just trying to find out why Lee is the only one called out for bad defense. I hate the coach, at least these past two seasons, and would have liked to see Barron play alongside Lee so we could see Lee play some 4, and see if Barron has some game, he can’t be a worse defender than anyone else on the team, and he’s the only one close to being the appropriate size for a 5 in this league. I just want to see Lee work with a different coach, a truly good coach, because under D’Antoni, his defense has gotten worse, and I don’t think he should be held 100% responsible, for playing the way his coach is probably telling him to play.

  • Mucha

Donnie Walsh would’ve traded Wilson Chandler instead of Stephen Curry.

  • HaS

Since we’re calling out _’antoni now, why does Golden State play their D-Leaguers nearly 40 mins apiece while Barron can’t snatch off his warm-ups?

_’antoni, we don’t have a center, maybe you haven’t noticed.

He may never get chance here with 7 games left. Or maybe he’ll get the same “chance” Darko got. What a joke.

  • HaS

    Nah, he really wouldn’t.
