Recap: Knicks 113 Clippers 107

BOX SCORE

The Knicks finally won out west snapping a four-game skid. The Knicks got plenty of good minutes from Earl Barron, who allowed David Lee to shift over to the 4 spot, and got 10 assists from Sergio Rodriguez. Al Harrington proved clutch down the stretch, shaking off memories of his last visit to LA verses the Clip Show.

Speaking of the Clippers, why they brought in Baron Davis, I still have no idea. The guy is hampering Eric Gordon who was far too passive last night. I like Gordon, but it’s clear it’s Baron’s team.

“Speaking of the Clippers, why they brought in Baron Davis, I still have no idea.”

Clippers had no PG and no leader at the time and Davis was coming off of leading GS to the playoffs and was literally carrying that team. He also brought together a team that consisted of Monta Ellis, Harrington and Steven Jackson and that playing as one unit even leading them past a much better Mavs team during his tenure as lead guard. He did the same thing for the Hornets in another life. Plus, Gordon was just drafted the year they brought in Davis, putting him next to Baron seemed like a good move. . .at the time.

“The Knicks got plenty of good minutes from Earl Barron, who allowed David Lee to shift over to the 4 spot”

Disgusting it took D’Antoni and Walsh this long to realize they need to bring in a shot blocking big (Walsh) and actually play them (D’Antoni). Imagine they had actually tried to play Millic or Hill with Lee earlier on in the season. Just terrible.

Earl Barron, impressed me last night, in regards to maybe keeping him to come off the bench next year not to shabby at all. I would like to bring him and walker back to start off our bench

  • Mucha

Eric Gordon defers too much to his teammates. The Clippers didn’t help him either, he had the hot hand early and the veterans stopped looking for him. Pathetic.

Buckets played well down the stretch – nice win.

  • J_Starks3

Fellas let’s not get carried away here.

Remember McGrady’s first game was impressive, Bender’s first game too.

Can he consistatly do this on the night in and night out basis??? This is the same guy that in Miami with virtually no competition for minutes at the 5 and still could not retain his job.

Also he has a history of not hitting those mid range jump shots.

Adrenaline can do some amazing things to players.

Couldn’t agree more about the need for a shot blocking big. It’s my biggest gripe with the Knicks management this season.

Donnie should have signed a center immediately after the Jeffries trade. Arguably sooner, once he saw Mike D had relegated Darko to the dog house.

Earl looked good by the way. While it would have been nice to have called him up earlier in the season, he’s still worth a long look for 2010-11.

  • fredweis

How about Sergio? One of his better games last night. Toned down excessiveness and played within the game.

Do you think he’s worth resigning?

Sergio’s due a hefty 2.7 million for his qualifying offer. I’d hate to let him just walk considering his talent. Only 23 and has eyes in the back of his head.

While I don’t see Sergio or TD as the starting PG next season (unless we get a ball handling SG), I don’t see anyone better out there for 2.7 million either.

  • oscar f

2.7 mil? Do you know what that can do to tha cap situation for a guy that more than likely wont start. As far as the pg situation they should just keep TD, and either draft another guy in the second round which would be cheaper or try to get an upgrade with Eddy’s expiring.

  • oscar f

But if they really thought he was all that they could waive him and resign him cheaper.

12 years since we beat the Clips at home?

    wow.. what a miserable stat.

27 wins with 6 to go.. the nightmare cant end soon enough.

  • HaS

“27 wins with 6 to go.. the nightmare cant end soon enough.”

The “nightmare”? Mucha says this year has been “exciting” with more “highlights” than last year (32 wins).

    LOL

I’m with you on that one, Big.

No shots Mucha, me and you’re cool. Just don’t understand that one,

  • Mucha

Come on HaS – last season the Knicks were boring to watch. The wins were not even exciting – very few games won down the stretch and very few highlights.

The fact that we did have a 1st round draft pick was a huge plus – every loss was a blessing in disguise. I don’t know, maybe that’s why you believe that the 2008-2009 season was more exciting!

2008-2009 : Wilson Chandler’s 30 point game against the Celtics, Chandler’s dunks against the Rockets and the Celtics, the Knicks’ win in Orlando (ESPN), the Nate Robinson show against the Spurs and the Pacers…

    2009-2010 : David Lee’s game-winner in Philly (the day after his Grandfather’s funeral), Gallo and Melo’s mano-a-mano, Nate Robinson’s 41 point performance, T-Mac’s come-back, Gallinari’s dunk on Hibbert/block on Acie Law, Lee’s jumper against the Bulls…

2009-2010 has been more exciting IMO – to each his own though.

PS I think the most disgusting moment was the 4th quarter against the Kings… Wilson Chandler was BALLIN, 35 points and nobody gave him the ball down the stretch. Pathetic.

  • Mucha

“very few games won down the stretch” doesn’t count lol – I don’t know why I said that.

  • HaS

I think both season were equally bad, if anything this season has been worse and the record will reflect that.

  • ds2488

Its nice to finally get a win on this road trip. I still cringe every time chucketts touches the ball..My enjoyment of games will improve so much when he is gone. It seemed at one point he took a bad shot, and Dantoni finally said something to him and yelled at him. Nice to see our coach has finally caught on..PATHETIC!

Gallo was bad and couldn’t hit a shot, but it was good to see him get aggressive down the stretch. He had a bad game though..He really struggled with Baron but did come up with a huge defensive play on the offensive foul on Kaman or Jordan I forget.

I liked Barron, but I don’t think he has any spot. At least he contested shots. Too bad it also took our coach 72 games to realize we might be better off with a real center instead of Lee.

  • HaS

I’m so disconnected from this team, more than I’ve ever been from the Knicks. I hate the coach, I hate most of the players (hopefully none of which will be back next year), the GM has painted us in a corner (I just hope it’s quick dry paint) and the Knicks are headed for two 50 loss seasons in a row.

It’s hard to get excited about a few “highlights”.

  • HaS

    75 games.

  • Mucha

I never said this season was “BETTER” than the previous one – but more “EXCITING”. Both seasons were equally bad in my opinion too.

But I also feel disconnected from this team – I like Gallo and I have a lot of respect for DW (despite the Brandon Jennings blunder) but all I gotta say is the KNICKS BETTER MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NEXT SEASON.

  • ds2488

I agree Mucha, this season has been much more exciting than last. But definitely not better. The problem with this year is that its basically been one good stretch(Nategate) surrounded by 2 of the crappiest stretches I can remember. Makes you wonder if there really was something to benching Nate…Maybe the same could have happened with Chucketts or Lee benched.

  • BiggieSmalls

my attitude coming into this season was completely different than last year..

last year I was blissfully going thru the season not caring about any win or loss.. It was maybe the best season for a knicks fan. you could revel in teh win AND the losses because we knew the light at the end of the tunnel was the best PG class in how ever many years…. Basketball Heaven.. all hope and no expectations.

This year I came into the season assuming we would be better than last year and hoping that in this “coach’s” second season he would improve simply by being here in his second year. I thought he would revel in his “tenure” and just play his system with the “guys who fit his system”

I was expecting 35-38 wins as was branded a hater because of that.

When i saw that this “Coach” was as subborn as ever, wasnt going to AT LEAST give us a brand of ball that is fun to watch (NOT Lee in the PnR for 70% of the plays) and the players were shutting him out i felt as if we were in teh WORST of all possible positions (no future draft picks, no players and two draft picks who will never see the court) and thus in Basketball Hell… NO hope and low expectations not even met.

  • BiggieSmalls

157 games.. assuming he has finally gotten the message.. which i doubt he has.

  • HaS

    Touche.

  • TinmanJr

If its a choice between anyone other than Bosh I would elect to keep Lee, I believe that if defense was stressed, D. Lee would work on it over the summer. The Knicks have no go to guy, and no interior defense. I don’t foresee the Knicks getting Lebron, but a step in the right direction to fill the holes in the middle and at point would definitely restore faith. If they can get a point guard and a shot blocking big. I think that they would be ok with the young guys. I think Camby is a bit old. Camby, Lee, Gallo Chandler and a new point, Gallo, Chandler and Douglas play D. TD off the bench. Have Chandler work on being the SG over the summer. Then C and point would be the position to be addressed.
