Game Thread: Celtics at Knicks

We know tonight’s storyline surrounds Nate Robinson‘s return to the Garden, and I have to wonder if the Knicks were a legitimate playoff team would anyone really make such a big deal?

But Nate, to some, was a fan favorite and deserves recognition. To me, Nate was an energy player and brilliant marketing mind who has capitalized on what has been a pretty ordinary on court career. If Nate can’t been called upon to help win a huge game (read vs the Celtics) the other day, then what does the future hold for him? He should be an on-ball pest. He isn’t. He should be a hired gun to come in and get the crowd going. That he is…sometimes, however not enough so far in Beantown. Granted, Rajon Rondo is tremendous.

Despite the fact that Doc Rivers has eliminated Nate from his playoff rotation, I expect Nate to play a good bit tonight and to enjoy every minute of it.

  • Mucha

I’ve never been a Nate Robinson fan. But I’ve always respected him because he has a HUGE heart and you can tell that he LOVES the game of basketball. I wish him the best.

  • ds2488

I really hope Nate gets to play tonight..If nothing else he will probably put on a show.

Interesting situation in Boston. I find it kind of odd that Doc would come out and say his playoff rotation was set now, yet at the same time kind of leave an opening to put back Daniels and Nate.

It seems that Doc, like Dantoni, was pretty disappointed in Nate’s ballhandling and pg skills, as that seemed to be the primary reason for getting him.

  • http://dagawdknowledge.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

i wonder what the knicks could of gotten for nate last year……………..

  • LBJ2010

    Duhon is starting again because?

    What a joke by D’Antoni.

  • http://dagawdknowledge.blogspot.com/ DaGawD_KnowLedge

how bout earl B with 7 early points an got the start

duhon starting again cuz he needs another contract..

  • ds2488

Fantastic start. Playing some tough defense, except Gallo is doing a really poor job when he switches onto KG. But he’s also doing a fantastic job on rondo, forcing him into jumpers.

Earl Barron- FILLING UP THE STAT SHEET. David Lee for 12 million? How about Barron for 6 million?

  • Knicks fan in Taiwan

Anybody have a good stream this morning (tonight)? Nothing at all the usual places…

  • Hustle

I’m liking what I see so far. Hopefully the Knicks play this way the entire game, rather than just for 3 (or fewer) quarters.

  • Boots

http://atdhe.net/ But it is inconsistent. Haven’t been able to get knicktv.com in weeks.

  • RandomKnicksFan

    http://www.knicksfan.net/?p=3606

Really good article about the knicks beat writers taking away from the Knicks chance to get superstars, i deffinetly agree with him

  • RandomKnicksFan

What are u expecting? Chris Paul for Nate? Hes already fallen out of the rotation in Boston, I bet he wouldnt have been able to get very much for him last year, dont believe every trade rumor you hear

  • Knicks fan in Taiwan

Finally got a stream on http://www.p2p4u.net. atdhe.net has been golden for weeks but not today. Thanks for the recommendation, anyway. It’s odd that there no working streams at myp2p.eu. That doesn’t happen often. Earl Barron, wow!

  • ds2488

Very good 1st half. Good effort all around. Whoever keeps leaving Jesus Shuttlesworth open is not doing a good job! Is it Suckhon? Some really nice stuff from Barron, Duhon, Gallo. Can I just say IT IS AN ABSOLUTE JOY TO WATCH THIS TEAM WITHOUT CHUCKETTS. lol. I wonder why that is?

  • Boots

Thank you for your link. I’ll add it to my list.

  • Mucha

The Knicks beat writers are terrible. Alan Hahn included in my opinion.

  • Mucha

David Lee’s playing better D at the 4 spot – but you can’t expect him to rack up 20 points per game anymore. I think Lee’s a 16ppg/10rpg power forward.

  • ds2488

KG is a freaking coward. I hate that guy. He throws those cheap elbows on every single play. The refs never call him for it though. I guess we can thank him though for pissing off Gallo. Gallo tends to respond really well when someone gets into it with him. That kid does not back down.

  • Qaspec

    Who needs Chris Bosh??

    Viva El Barron!!!!

  • ds2488

Barron’s playing great. These d-leaguers are great to call up because they are playing for their jobs. They will give max effort on every play. I really like Barron so far. He’s definitely worth a look next year on a minimum contract.

  • k-hodge

Duhon is starting cause they’ve got no healthy bodies..LOL

  • Hustle

    Lebron? More like LeBarron.

  • Knicks4life

Even if the Knicks end up winning this game . .. . I can’t understand the logic behind starting Duhon again.

  • ds2488

I don’t know what’s happened to Doug since that first week? Maybe he has made it onto other teams scouting reports? I don’t know what it is, but he really pushes the line as far as being a pg. He looks for his shot way too much right now. Im not so sure he’s even a backup pg anymore. He might just be more of a combo guard off the bench.

  • Knicks4life

If multi-million dollar NBA players who are grown men decide not to come to NY because of the beat writers they have serious issues.

Knicks have enough issues (Dolan, D’Antoni, and old MSG facility) that would cause a player to not choose MSG. Beat writers shouldn’t be one of them.

  • Knicks4life

KG, Ray Allen, Michael Finley, Paul Pierce, Rasheed Wallace. How good would the Celtics have been 8 years ago?

Now they will be lucky to last a seven game series with the Cavs without their dentures falling out.

  • Knicks4life

Knicks are playing really undermanned with Harrington, Chandler, McGrady and Curry (ha) all out.

Really proud of the effort tonight win or lose.

  • Knicks4life

I bet in the post game wrap up Tommy D compares Earl Barron to Patrick Ewing and Willis Reed . . .you know how excited he gets whenever a Knick plays well.

  • Anandp1001

whoaaa buddy, looks like a good time to pull Sergio.. guy is starting to launch em on behalf of House and Chuckets

about Toney, i dont see any dropoff in his effort or play; just growing pains as he’s being pressed more and hes being forced to make tough passes since so far he’s been getting by off of drives and 3s. He’ll be aight, and i want to see him starting at PG next year

  • ds2488

I don’t even know what to think about what’s going on with this team anymore. The sad thing is its been happening all year.

You have Sergio Rodriguez, an awful shooter content to just sit back and chuck up 3′s. You have Gallo, coming off a dominant 3rd quarter sitting for 7 minutes!! Thats ridiculous. He should have been in at the 8 minute mark. Instead he’s in with 4 minutes left. Such bad coaching.

  • Mucha

    Agreed.

They are playing hard – Mike D’Antoni has done a pretty good job tonight even though I can’t understand why Gallo still hasn’t played in the 4th.

  • HaS

Who was it that said if a player is in the D-League they’re just not that good?

This is the type of effort that I would appreciate every night win or lose.

They could have been doing this all year.

  • DatNewYorker

Now that is a Nate Robinson video. Miss u Nate but i love Walker and Giddens. Baron makes David Lee’s Double Doubles not look so impressive. Baron is a keeper. I don’t know how durable he is but it is clear that this kid can play. He knocks down the open shots and he plays smart. THIS IS MY FIRST INSULT TO DONNIE WALSH. Donnie you are an idiot, why the hell did it take you so long to find a big from the D leage? Any center in the D league can play better Defense than David Lee. I expected him to pick up someone immediately after he traded Jared Jeffries. Hello?

  • Knicks4life

Playing Duhon in crunch time is unacceptable in any situation unless you only have five players on the team.

  • Mucha

Duhon shooting 3-pointers in the 4th quarter should be illegal.

    Seriously.

  • Mucha

    No doubt.

  • Mucha

    Nice lay-up though.

    Just stop taking 3-point shots.

  • ds2488

Sergio just did the same thing for 5 minutes. Its the same crap all year. The ball is in the hand of the crappy pg’s the whole game, so no other player gets touches. Its so bad.

  • Knicks4life

You should really start keeping track of this stuff. Pad and paper next to your CPU.

  • HaS

    He’s the Captain!

  • bb_dot

yep. just enough time to get the celtics the lead and cool off Gallo..

  • Knicks4life

The Celtics couldn’t stop Gallo . . .so Mike D’Antoni made sure that he did by sitting him for an unbelievable long stretch.

    Nice job coach.

  • bb_dot

I hate Garnett.. he is such a crybaby

  • Knicks4life

    I hate Chris Duhon.

  • ds2488

    ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

CALL A FREAKING PLAY FOR GALLO!!!

Its the same crap all year. this is coaching 101.

  • HaS

That three from Danilo almost broke the glass lol.

  • Hustle

    DANILO BIG SHOTS

  • Knicks4life

Your love for Gallo is scary.

It is like you don’t even see the four other players on the floor.

  • ds2488

lol. Its better to be lucky than good.

  • ds2488

Even that possession its the same crap. Run a stupid little pick and roll that doesn’t work with Duhon for 18 secs, and then a desperation pass to Bill Walker for a bad chuck. CALL A PLAY DANTONI. Make sure Gallo gets the ball. Sometimes I can’t believe what I see from this team.

  • Lebris Jamosh aka ridiculous upside

BANG!! Gallo banks it in from 3!

Damn, I wish this was the team all year without Leonardo, House, etcc

  • Knicks4life

If only Gallo could actually play on the road or play consistenty at home. He would be one the better SFs in the league.

  • Qaspec

Now that Earl Barron is averaging a double double he’s probably gonna want 10-12 mil this offseason.

  • ds2488

Lol. I’ve been brutally honest all year that I couldn’t give a crap about this current team. All I care about is Gallo and Wilson, and to a lesser extent Bill Walker. But c’mon man.

You would rather Duhon have that ball than Gallo. Its just simple coaching

  • Knicks4life

That was an amazing pass by Duhon. Wow.

  • HaS

Still hate Duhon? LOL I bet he’s back next year.

    I really hope not.

  • Mucha

    Apologies to Chris Duhon.

    Great play.

  • ds2488

Is anyone surprised that Gallo’s best game of the season came without Chucketts? Did I not say like a week ago that once Al sat down Gallo would go off?

  • Knicks4life

Man I have no doubt in my mind we don’t foul now.

    C’mon D’Antoni please for once.

  • bb_dot

Duhon, one critical block and a steal…

  • Mucha

    NIIIIIIIIICCCCE.

  • Knicks4life

No I agree with you that they need to run more plays for Gallo but you scream for it from the 1:00 minute mark in the 1st qtr. Its just a little . . .obsessive know what i mean.

  • Qaspec

Did David Lee just hit a game winning shot in Kevin Garnetts face? Can’t be because according to HaS David Lee never does anything positive for this team.

  • bb_dot

MD still trying to give the game away by not giving the foul…

  • fauci933

Normally I’d agree, but you can’t hate after he got that steal.

  • HaS

    Not true.

Still would love to see him take a game winning charge.

  • Knicks4life

Great win. Especially against our hated rivals.

But seriously D’Antoni may be clinically insane. Starting Duhon. Continuing not to foul at the end of games despite it costing him (and us) countless games.

  • Knicks4life

Yup David Lee is leading us to another 30 win season HaS you hater.

  • Mucha

    To play devil’s advocate :

You can’t lose if you don’t foul. You can if you foul Ray Allen and he pulls a Larry Johnson. At least the Knicks played good team defense on the final possession.

  • Qaspec

Earl Barron’s best game of the season was without Chucketts also.

  • Mucha

    lol

  • fauci933

Whole-heartedly agree. Yea Al is a really good scorer, but for an older player who most likely will not be on the team next year, he takes away valuable experience from players like Gallo. Gallo needs to become the primary scoring option on this team to boost his confidence, gain experience, and also because he’s just plain good.

  • Knicks4life

Your right, we should bring him back next year.

  • Qaspec

    Hey….maybe 31, okay

  • fauci933

Yea, I wish there were 4 other players on the floor and a skeptical coach who we could also blame. Oh wait, there are! Funny, I thought Lee was the only player on the court.

  • Mucha

Duhon was phenomenal down the stretch. My apologies.

  • HaS

    LMAO

  • bb_dot

how can you not loose? Ray Allen can still hit the trey and celts cook us in OT.. happened before. Much more rare to pull a LJ.

but yes. we played good defense, Lee made the winning shot and Duhon made two critical plays in crunchtime. Miracles do happen..

  • Knicks4life

Tina just gave her best post game interview without Chuckets.

    He really needs to go.

  • ds2488

No I do. You have a good point. If the team is doing fine, I don’t scream for it. If the offense is working, then I don’t care what Gallo is doing.

But the offense so rarely is working well, especially when I’ve had to watch Duhon do his thing all year while Gallo just stands off to the side. We all know that Gallo has more skill than he shows sometimes in the offense.

We both agree that some of the offensive sets are just beyond ridiculous, especially down the stretch. I just know that the only thing we have going for us this summer is Gallo and Chandler, so I want to see them focused on every game, which unfortunately hasn’t been the case.

  • ds2488

LOL. I set myself up for that one. But c’mon, I have been saying this all year. I can’t stand watching Al, and the whole team does better without that black hole in the lineup. And I am not surprised TIna ups her game without Al. He’s just such a ballhog..Its tough to do interviews with him in the game.

  • bb_dot

    LOL

  • k-hodge

LMAO! @ launching on behalf of House and Chuckets

  • HaS

    Kelly Tripuka agrees with you.

Ridiculous when Rondo is dribbling and clearly not looking to shoot and he’s not fouled.

Luckily, it didn’t bite us in the a**.

  • Qaspec

How bad is scouting in the NBA overall??? How does no team in the NBA have use for a 7′ Earl Barron until 6 games left in the season? How does Boston not realize that one of their big needs, bench scoring from the 2-3 position was sitting on their bench all season in Walker? Boston is now leaning on a 53 year old Michael Finley to fill that role.

  • Mucha

    1. David Lee played “good” defense at the 4 spot but playing with a true center limits his game offensively. Solid performance though, I like this David Lee more than than Avi Lee.

    2. I really like the fact that Gallinari reached the 30-point plateau tonight because he only made one/took four 3-point shots.

    3. Rasheed Wallace is terrible.

  • Knicks4life

Call me crazy but I think Earl Barron can be a player. Not just based off his stats from one game . . .I really liked what I saw from him tonight with the rebounding, hustle, footwork. He could be a good backup C/PF for us going forward. No joke.

This is why D’Antoni needed to play some of his bench guys (Darko, Hill) and Walsh should have been scouring the D-League for big men. Whatever though, spilled milk.

  • k-hodge

HA HA HA..You guys are too funny..ROFL

  • bb_dot

My biggest question after tonight: Is Barron for real? Is it possible that we found a real impact player and fished him out of d-league? Or is it the first week Garden adrenaline that will wear off before seasons end..?

  • Qaspec

I think Rasheed’s problem is that his shot and release are being slowed down by the new man boobs he’s sporting this year. They’re just in the way and he’ll need to change his mechanics to compensate next year.

He should also speak to Duhon about what he does to deal with his mooby issues.

  • fauci933

Funny, I don’t remember saying that. Just saying that, while I agree I wouldn’t put Duhon in the game in key moments, tonight, he performed really well in that role. In terms of what we’re forced to watch at the present time, I have no reason to hate on Duhon’s effort tonight.

  • ds2488

yeah I agree. I like Earl. He can stick with a minimum contract. Plus we all know how much Dantoni likes big men that can make jump shots.
But I was really impressed with his defensive rotations. He’s smart on d.

  • Qaspec

Don’t get excited man….if he can be a vet minimum back-up that plays decent for us at the center postion that would make a positive addition to what might be a weak bench next year.

  • ds2488

LOL. Duhon and Rasheed could both pass for women just looking at their chests. Thats what you get when you spend every night with Captain Jack instead of practicing and working out.

  • Mucha

    The Knicks should’ve fouled RONDO.

But if Allen gets the ball and I’m all over him no homo – I would NOT foul. Because if he shoots it it’s already a tough shot but you KNOW that Allen won’t miss his FT’s at the line. And you lose the game if he hits the 3 and then goes to the line.

  • fauci933

I don’t know if you thought that was sarcasm or not, but I was totally serious with every word I wrote in that post. I really did agree with you.

  • Mucha

Jonathan Bender looked like Jesus so you know… but I think Barron proved that he can a good back-up center in this league.

  • Qaspec

I was wondering why Hacksaw Jim Duggan was taking the long 3 attempt for Boston at the end of the game and then I realized it was Rasheed Wallace.

  • CircleLimit4

How about Barron Von Boards? I hope he’s for real, though Celtics are a poor rebounding team. Nice win regardless.

  • ds2488

Oh no sorry man. I was responding to the 2 previous posts poking fun at my statement.

I completely agree with everything you wrote. I’ve been saying all year that Al has been killing the development of Gallo and Chandler.

  • bb_dot

i’m not saying he is going to be an allstar. but seriously, Barron looked way better than Bender. In his best game bender knocked down a couple of tree’s. This guy rebounds, dives on the floor and most importantly seems to be pretty court savvy… he is playing for his future, I understand, but I think he can play for real.

  • ds2488

LOL. They do talk the same exact way. Thats hilarious. Im now envisioning Rasheed walking around with a 2 x 4 with an american flag draped around his shoulder.

  • ds2488

Don’t worry. 3 games from now the guy will be chucking up 3′s and will be afraid of interior contact so will stand around the perimeter all game.

  • bb_dot

    damn you guys are cynics…

  • Qaspec

I watched that whole Nat Geo special about the Shroud of Turin and the result of that whole experiment looked nothing like Jonathan Bender.

  • ds2488

    ^
    Sarcasm

  • Qaspec

Although, I do believe that Boston would trade Rasheed Wallace for Earl Barron straight up right now.

  • Mucha

    He looked good.

But the fact that he played in the D-league gave him some extra-motivation, I want to see how the guy plays after this adrenalyne rush. I’m not hating, I just want to see a couple more games.

  • Mucha

They would trade Sheed for Eddy Curry at this point.

  • Mucha

    LMAO

  • bb_dot

I tell you what. come playoff time Rasheed will win a couple of games for the Celtics. He will be like Horry.. no game during the regular season but then knocking down important 3′s when they count.. no sarcasm.

  • Qaspec

In all honesty I do beleive Boston wishes it could go back and re-do that whole Nate deal. Not a knock on Nate as much as it really is an observation of how well Walker is playing.

  • ds2488

Haha. We’ve found the impossible: A lazier NBA player than Eddy Curry.

  • Qaspec

The only way he wins any playoff games for Boston this year is by getting hit with a couple quick techs and missing the majority of the game.

  • bb_dot

I appreciate your wit. But mark my words… I said it here. Sheed will sink a couple of three’s in crunchtime and win a game or two for the celtics.

  • Qaspec

Sheed’s really going to have to pick up his play. Playing in crunch time against the Knicks in the regular season is one thing but with his recent play and 28% shooting from 3pt land I’m not sure Doc puts him in there in a hotly contested playoff game.

Rasheed is grossly out of shape and has played poorly all year. He still gets really mad so it still looks like Sheed but it ain’t the same dude. I thought he was about done last year and I was suprised Boston brought him in.

  • tardy

    LMAO

  • Anandp1001

Regardless of what 4 we have next year, Barron looks like a good fit for some minutes at the 5… the oustide stroke is nice.

I think DW should dangle the 2 year minimum contract, 2nd year a Team option, right now and lock him up before he plays his way out of our price range.

I would be quick to say that Giddens is so garbage, but i think he’s some good coaching away from being pretty good; you can see the defensive potential and the 1 on 1 offensive skills, and some good athleticism. I wonder if he’s worth keeping? Simple things like catch with yer knees bent so yer ready for a catch-n-shoot (i saw Pop explain that to a Spur last week) — Giddens def needs development and coaching, but I think he’ll pan out as an NBA player.

I am not adverse to keeping Lee if the price is right and other choices dont pan out; the guy is finally improving on D and will benefit from playing alongside a 5. Offensively, Lee is as good as Bosh, and not too, too far behind Amare and Boozer (although completely different in style)

  • Mal

Gallo needed the blow bad you could see he was getting tired and Serg went on a heat check barrage

  • Mal

Dont think Earl is quite 7foot, KG and Sheed looked a little taller than him

  • TinmanJr

I agree Anandp1001 Lee working with a true 5 his numbers will go down, but he still has skills and as long as he can help on D then I am fine with that. If=t never hurts when you have a player that wants to be a Knick and he earned the right to be there during the good times.

  • HaS

Rondo had the ball for like 3 seconds and he was clearly not looking to shoot. No brainer.

  • HaS

Why are you guys looking at their chests?

  • Mal

lmao I was thinking the same, there was a comedian on Martin the other night talking about things that make you say uhh huh
