Stein: Bosh Is Rocket’s Number One Target

by Myles A. Mills on April 29th, 2010 at 11:31 pm

Via ESPN.com:

“The Rockets’ No. 1 free-agent target? Sources say it’s still Bosh, who earlier this season said the idea of playing in his hometown of Dallas holds limited appeal.. but hasn?t said anything to suggest that he wouldn?t play somewhere else in his home state. If the Raptors and Bosh reach the expected conclusion that it?s time for an amicable divorce, Houston has amassed an enticing cache of sign-and-trade assets. One source, offering one small example, says that the Raptors are intrigued by young forward Jordan Hill, whom the Rockets extracted from the Knicks in the Tracy McGrady three-way deal in February. As a (reasonably) big-market team — with low-key cornerstones like Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks, and a franchise player in Yao Ming who might not be a franchise player any more after being forced to sit out an entire season — Houston can also offer the stage and go-to guy spotlight Bosh covets. Yet it’s believed that the Raptors, if Bosh indeed proves willing to join the Rockets via sign-and-trade, will try to foist Hedo Turkoglu on Houston as part of the deal. Would the Rockets be willing to take on Turkoglu’s contract ($43.8 million over the next four years) and surrender, say, Trevor Ariza in return to clinch Bosh’s arrival? The cost of adding Bosh along with Turkoglu would likely be prohibitive for the Rockets, but Toronto certainly figures to try.”

It would be pretty ironic if the Rockets acquired Bosh using Jordan Hill. I still think Bosh will end up in New York, but a lot of teams are going to jump in, and in the case of a sign and trade, which seems the most likely at this point, the Knicks may be at a disadvantage. The Raptors will want talent, not expiring contracts back, so teams like the Bulls and Knicks might not have the best shot.

i want some more articles about DONNIE ALZY PLEASE…

  • harris

Why do you think Bosh ends up in New York Myles? He’s never really expressed a definitive interest in coming (there’s even a video which shows him laughing uproariously at the prospect of playing for the Knicks).

  • blackwood

mannn more & more these guys people are so sure we can get are looking further & further away! We will see but if they trade what Mr.Magoo gave them for T-crack & flip it in to Bosh donnie alzy will be wearing egg on his face for a very long time!

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

yo BLACK u still didn’t tell me what your boy donnie alzy said about this summer…………………………..

  • HaS

    This can’t happen.

The Knicks never run out of ways to make themselves the laughingstock or the butt of a joke. If that sign & trade goes down that would be devastating imo.

  • x-man

The great Chris Bosh is at home watching the playoffs like us and our Knicks!

Bosh ain’t gonna change things for us here in NY so let this dude go back home. Maybe when he goes back his hometown to play for Houston, that whacky Governor of TX will have that state succeeded from the US. Then Bosh will still be playing in a another country!

  • x-man

Yo DaGwd, You see Scott Skiles showing D’antoni that he’s a total dud? I told ya Skiles is a good coach and will only get better. He isn’t afraid to get in players face and tell it like it is.

Looks like the only big good move our GM may make this summer is to fire our awful coach! That would be a great start!

  • x-man

Are u prepared to take back your support for us getting T-mac yet? hahahaha You know I’m not gonna let you and Biggie live this down!

Little Vince Carter fooled a lot os ya in believing he was a winner. You may not remember that he and Vince carter couldn’t get the Rapters far in Toronto. T-Mac is Marbury in that they have all that talent and always see m to have am excuse on why they can’t get it done when needed.

Maybe we’ll see him in China with Marbury and Vince Carter next year. They’ll surely make the all-excuse team.

  • dogmanx23

The moment the trade with Houston went down I thought “did we just set up the rockets to get a big free agent”

They have picks, young players and expiring contracts. Bosh is from Texas so its not so crazy. Donnie will look like a fool if this happens.

  • bob go knicks

    very good mr blackwood!

  • bob go knicks

its ok fellas dont worry bout it dvj says everything is gonna be awright

  • Hydr0

Would anyone even want Bosh here if we were forced to take Turkaglu along with him? I wouldn’t want that anyway. If Toronto forces Turkey to be part of the package, Houston can have him. Most people who post here have clearly stated that they don’t want to pay Bosh the max (which he will get btw) with or without Turkey’s bad contract. So, why would anyone care it this trade went down anyway?

For the record, I would be happy with Bosh sans Hedo’s bad contract of course.

    get used to this, people.

i think tommy dee is the only one who wants to play for our pathetic excuse for a head coach.

  • Knicks4life

I didn’t mind that trade in terms of getting T-Macs expiring contract. Before the trade I posted that he was washed up and cited examples (although he fooled me that first game back) but I didn’t mind get more in expring $$ since we weren’t making the playoffs anyway.

What I hated, and still hate, is how much we gave up in that trade and that no one, players, coaches or managment thought it prudent to remain competitive when trying to entice free agents to come here. I thought that was a major mistake (throwing away two seasons).

I still don’t understand the logic behind the Hill pick either. If you look at the draft picks, Hill and their other assets the Rockets might have the most valuable assets in the league. Rockets can acquire players through trades with draft picks and young players and are an attractive destination because they were competitive last year. Knicks, not so much.

  • Knicks4life

    Who?

  • BiggieSmalls

in fairness there’s more to the deal than Jordan Hill for Chris Bosh..
But it makes Donnie look awfully bad if it goes down no question..

Thinking out loud.. I would take Hedo in a deal for Bosh if we included Curry’s expiring.. Havent run the numbers..

Bosh is FROM Houston (or Texas) but has previously said he would prefer NOT to play in his home town..

I was for clearing the additional cap space but bit my lip more on the draft picks than Jordan Hill.(who i think was a bad pick by Donnie and Co)

    This will be interesting.

  • grahambo86

He’s from Dallas. I think it is Dallas that he said he won’t play for. I don’t know.

I was all for the trade when Donnie made it but hearing this, almost made me sick to my stomach. It ain’t official until it’s official so Ill hold out hope but damn if it does.

  • x-man

Well, Tommy Dee has got to be faster than Duhon so maybe he’s auditioning for a spot. The Has will have to call him Tommy _ee after seeing him play the type of defense this coach luvs.

  • x-man

lol I hear ya and I read those statements by ya then. I’m just teasing Has and Biggie for their support of that trade. Little Vince Carter has a way of doing a Marbury on making people believe he is the answer.

  • x-man

Bosh can’t get Toronto anywhere! Look at what a good coach like Skiles is doing for a team with key players hurt with the Bucks! We need a good coach for starters!

As for the players, let’s all say this together. “If we can’t get LBJ or CP3, for years to come , we’re going stink like WEE WEE”

  • woohitter

    People.

Bosh is an Early Termination Option.

If he Opts out, he will be UNRESTRICTED

The Raptors have 0 control over where he goes.

Bosh will only commit to the sign and trade in order to earn the most over the life of the contract. Which his original team can give him due to rules to give teams an advantage in signing their own players.

If Hill were traded for Bosh it would be ironic, and only that for Knicks fans. Jordan Hill would NOT have been the difference in where Bosh signed. He will sign with the team HE wants to play for. Who the Raptors get in return is based upon where he wants and THEN what the new team will give up.

The two events are mutually exclusive.

  • woohitter

In terms of the Raptors trying to get rid of Hedo

They are giving Bosh a luxury by allowing him to sign for more money with greater annual raises. For that, they want some form of compensation. The Knicks would only take Hedo if the Raptors took Eddy Curry and sent a draft pick I presume.

If Hedo isn’t involved, the Raptors would like some young cheap talent in one form or another.

Again, Bosh can get frustrated with this whole process and decide that he wants to just flat out sign with his new team and that ends any hopes of getting anything for the Raptors.

  • HaS

That trade (in it’s final form) never had my “support”.

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

cmon myles, it’s friday, it’s too damn early to be getting us alllll depressed… :(

i can soooo see that happening…..that would be our luck….i truly think the knicks are cursed al a the curse of the bambino…

idk if we’ll ever get out of this rut….

Bosh said he’d love to play for his hometown team Dallas, idk where you guys heard different…I’m sure he wouldn’t say no to Houston, w/ brooks, martin, ariza, n a healthy yao…w/ him in that lineup would make them an instant contender….

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

I just hope that the free agent class is watching how much media coverage and press the JETS are getting by picking up alllll these stars, and how they are now the TALK OF NY…..

but we’ll see……it’s not looking good soo far….i dnt see wade leaving, amare’s starting to look happy, if bosh ends up in houston, then i dnt think we should go after joe johnson either, i think he needs a amare or bosh to succeed…AND I BELIEVE LEBRON WILL SIGN ANOTHER 2YR CONTRACT(w/ a player option for a 3rd) to try an bring Cleveland a chip or 2 and see how the garden and the brooklyn arena shape up…..

*sigh* guess we may have to go another season w/ this garbage and the anticipation of cp3 and melo hitting the free agent market….

THE LIFE OF A KNICKS FAN…. :( (if this was bbm i’d put up the crying hysterical face, lololol)

  • NoVaCaInE

I’ve been saying for the longest this is going to be a tough summer for a lot of Knick fans. It’s good to see that some people are starting to finally wake up…

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

gotta admit tho, the anticipation at least made the season bearable and watchable…lol..

Can somebody remind me how many of you supported the Hill trade?
Wait, it’s coming back to me. Thanks to the pg of Knicks information trumpeting it on every rooftop. 80% of you liked the deal and he was leading the charge.
It was dumb then, it is even dumber now that we look back.
Laughingstock of the NBA will have a new meaning.

  • LBJ2010

A little premature to be flipping out about this possibility. Stein also said on a podcast with Simmons this week that he’s heard rumblings of a Bosh S&T to the Knicks in exchange for a Lee centered package. He also said he’s heard the Raptors are Lee fans. So again, we are going to be hearing a ton of these rumors for the next 2 months. Make sure to take them all with a grain of salt.

  • Hydr0

Speaking of the jets, santanio holmes was just kicked off a plane for being an disruptive passenger. You think the commish will add games to his suspension?

Please donnie, no bad character guys on the knicks this summer. They usually let you down.

  • LBJ2010

“I’m just teasing Has and Biggie for their support of that trade. Little Vince Carter has a way of doing a Marbury on making people believe he is the answer.”

I’m pretty sure any support of that trade had nothing to do with thinking McGrady, the player, was “the answer” to our problems. But hey, why not bend people’s words to fit your argument? Let’s see how you can spin your reply to my comment into D’antoni bashing. Ready? Go!

  • x-man

If the thought of 7SOL being run here for the next few years under this coach doesn’t get ya depressed then you’re totally depressed resistant.

  • x-man

hahahahahaha! You’re not doing a Bill Clinton on us are ya? lol Little Vince Carter had you and Biggie fooled too huh?

  • LBJ2010

Had absolutely nothing to do with my comment. Nice. Did D’Antoni bang your significant other or something?

I was interested to see what T-Mac had left yes, Biggie wasn’t as intrigued with him as I was and I was not in favor of trading Hill + picks to get rid of Jeffries’ 6+ mil contract which would have had value as an expiring next year.

Sorry to disappoint you x, but you’ve got the wrong guy on that one. I never supported the “trade”. I’ve been pretty adamant about that.

  • HaS

Let us not forget that if said trade were to go down that it would make it more likely that the “swapped” pick would be in their favor not ours.

  • blackwood

I keep hearing him say is that he never said anything other then get under the cap!! lol He has no clue and I damn sure dont have any idea what Mr.Magoo I can just hope the light comes on for that dude.

  • x-man

If he did. it would have been over in 7 seconds! Then my significant other would have beat the crap out of him for getting her all heated up for nothing!

You keep defending this loser of a coach! Scott Skiles is showing everyonwe what a real young coach can do even with key players hurt.
