SSoL Author Defends D’Antoni

by Tommy Dee on May 17th, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Jack McCallum is my favorite sports writer. Always has been. Period. That said, he wrote and interesting piece on the Gentry/D’Antoni debate.

“…Nash’s last point — We all like him and trust him — is as important as any. I have never encountered a single person in the hoops world who does not like Gentry, whose range of contacts seems endless. Bring up any player, coach or executive and chances are Gentry will have some kind of good-natured anecdote about him. Heck, bring up anyone in the culture and chances are Gentry will have a tale. I’ve never laughed harder at a story than the one Gentry told about the night he encountered astronaut Buzz Aldrin at a party thrown by Clippers owner Donald Sterling. They were outside of Sterling’s beachfront home in Malibu, the moon full and beautiful above them, and Gentry approached Aldrin nervously and said, “Uh, Buzz, you ever look up at the moon and think to yourself how people stare at it and write poems about it, and you walked on it?” And Aldrin just looked at Gentry and said, “No. F— no.” From time to time when I call Gentry, I’ll say, “Hey, it’s Buzz Aldrin calling.”

Now, get up the YouTube video of Gentry going absolutely bonkers over a call in a Suns-Lakers game back in March. He felt that Pau Gasol should have been called for a flagrant foul for hacking Amundson on a drive. Gentry was ejected but he also demonstrated the kind of fighting spirit that defines the man, a funny guy you have to take seriously.

This coach-and-team chemistry thing is never easy to figure out. One day it’s there, the next day it’s not. Scott Skiles is run out of Chicago, then he’s a genius in Milwaukee. Avery Johnson is a genius in Dallas, then he’s run out of town. There are most assuredly great coaches and most assuredly bad coaches, but in many cases a kind of indefinable set of circumstances must exist for a coach to succeed at a certain place at a certain time. When the mojo isn’t right, it’s time for coach and team to part company and for someone else to take over.

All I know is that for four seasons there wasn’t a better coach for the Phoenix Suns than Mike D’Antoni.

And right now there’s not a better coach for the Phoenix Suns than Alvin Gentry…”

    great article

He is right. Why can’t both coaches be really good at what they do?

People say D’Antoni can’t win without Nash etc. but fail to mention that Gentry didn’t have a good coaching record before the Suns.

They both bring different things to the table and both are good coaches. The Suns probably needed to go in a different direction but that doesn’t discount the job the MD while he was there.

Lets face it a coach is only as good as his players. D’assholi did not have the players, we all agree. So lets go beyond that, lets look at how he handled the players he had. If you dissect that he looks like a real prick to me. He’s done some questionable things and said some questionable things. “I only play good rookies not bad ones”, WTF does that mean? Totally unnecessary to say something like that.

I hope Jordan Hill haunts D’assholi as long as he coaches in the NBA!!!!

Playing DLee at center….DUH….he had Milicic, like we were going to contend for a title, play the guy and see what you have, play Hill and Douglas to see what you have. Even Curry could have played, he dogged it faking injury because he knew he was not going to see time. D’assholi had players, maybe not the ones he wanted, maybe not the quality he wanted but he had players. We had White Chocolate, not good enough for D’assholi yet he’s good enough to be the first backup PG on the Magic. he was better than Duhon for sure.

So you look at the decisions on personnel that Walsh did because of D’assholi and some of the things D’ass said and he comes off as a self absorbed, stubborn prick.

I watch the Celtics and say to myself, there’s a team to emulate. I love the way they play!!!!!!!!!!

I’m watching the Lakers and Suns, it’s halftime. The Suns do not play defense but they have some size. Included in that size is an ex Knick. He’s not good enough for the Knicks yet he’s playing on a team playing in the semi-finals, Channing Frye.

The Lakers look too good for the Suns, too long and strong. Even with the injuries the Suns look a bit out classed. Pau Gasol is the best player on the court because Kobe is hurt and they cannot stop Odom. But if Kobe does not realize he’s hurt and cannot do his thing 100% the Lakers can lose, like LeBron did not do, Kobe has to let the other players on the Lakers win, they have the talent, until Kobe is closer to 100%. If Kobe plays selfishly the Lakers will lose.

AND that’s the name of the game, unselfishness…………trusting your teammates and playing within your abilities, if your not 100% do other things and get the ball to the other guys, play defense and so on. The Celtics do that and that’s why I think they will win the championship.

  • Mucha

ESPN etc. are waisting their time by overhyping LeBron James… Kobe Bryant will be remembered as the greatest player of his generation.

  • YO SON

word..hahaha……its funny I was saying trap trap get the ball out of his hands……but they played man up….didn’t expect him 2 do him like that hahah 2 bad he couldnt finish……Dwayne Wade is the BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER in the league…….in my humbled opinion…… even though I hate reffering to a heat as the best ….or rondo as “elite”..but it is what it is……

  • Mucha

Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league in terms of talent (skills and basketball IQ).

And LeBron James is the best player in the league in terms of impact (on the win/loss column).

    IMO

  • Rene

Kobe is awesome, the best ever IMO.Those Cavs fans are so Lame,Lebron is coming here for sure now.LOL DAnt has alot to prove IMO but he’s not as bad as he’s getting ripped here.He should off sat Duhon sooner and play Q too much but if you don’t have the players coaches go with exp.so I give a pass until he get players so I can evaluate him properly here.He did make bad personel moves in his short stay but he has shown good things too so I will say he’s report card is incomplete until you have a solid squad for a year it’s not fair to judge with so many salary dumps and trades affecting your team.

  • HaS

“He did make bad personel moves in his short stay but he has shown good things too…”

I’m sorry, what good things did he show?

  • HaS

“Kobe is the best player in the league in terms of impact in the playoffs (on the win/loss column).”

    fixed.

  • bb_dot

I honestly think that D’Antoni is a liability at this point. The strategy of getting him because he is so well liked by the Olympic boys will backfire. He was, plainly put, exposed as a one-trick pony.

  • Mucha

    I agree.

  • DVJ

“I honestly think that D’Antoni is a liability at this point. The strategy of getting him because he is so well liked by the Olympic boys will backfire.”

No disrespect bb_dot but I think that’s hilarious. We got D’Antoni because he was the best coach available at the time….no? Yes we all knew about his “relationships” with the superstars of the league but don’t act like the guy didn’t have a ridiculously good record.

  • Knicks4life

    No. He won’t.

That rape allegation and the petty fighting with Shaq really killed his image IMO. He could have almost been on MJs level if not for those things and if he and the Diesel had stayed together.

If LBJ ever rings multiple rings I think his long lasting image will surpass Kobe.

Jordan wasn’t “Jordan” untill he won the big one.

  • bb_dot

he appeared to be the best coach available. But then he was exposed as a one-trick pony. I just don’t buy the claim that he cannot be held responsible yet because he didn’t have “his” players. I’ve seen enough. The guy is very limited as a coach.

  • Knicks4life

If the Knicks don’t get LBJ, Bosh, Johnson or Wade this summer, when will the evaluaion of D’Antoni begin?

  • Mucha

    - He did a great job with Wilson Chandler – who developped into a very good player on both ends of the floor under Mike D’Antoni.

    - Jared Jeffries was actually a valuable player in December-January. Mike D’Antoni found a way to turn one of the worst/least talented/most useless players in the league into one of the best help defenders in the NBA and a useful screen-setter on the offensive end.

    - David Lee was horrible defensively and Mike D’Antoni should’ve benched him long ago… but offensively? The fact that David Lee became a point center and one of the best big men offensively with the high P&R = Pure genius.

    - He let Danilo Gallinari guard the best players in the NBA. And he wanted him to change his shot selection. I also believe that he’s treating Gallinari the right way from a psychological standpoint.

  • Knicks4life

I think D’Antoni’s problems can be fixed. He just needs to get the right people on his coaching staff and start caring about defense.

  • ds2488

the suns are really showing off their improved defense right now. Damn, what the hell happened to them?

Anyway, I don’t think many coaches in the league would have had a much better record than Dantoni has with the Knicks so far based on the lack of talent on the roster.

That being said, there were many really negative signs this year about his coaching, including late game play calls and player accountability. I don’t consider communication to be a problem at all as all of the players who had problems deserved to have problems, and could not be trusted at all anyway.

But, I do think its unfair to demand his firing now. So in that sense, I agree with Mccallum who makes a good point about a rosters circumstances determining the coach’s success. Lets give Dantoni another year, and see what happens.

  • Mucha

Kobe Bryant is still the most popular player around the world. I really believe that – If LeBron James doesn’t win more than 2 rings – Kobe Bryant will be remembered as the best NBA player of this generation. And I doubt that LeBron James will win more than 3 rings in his career. Unless he signs with the Knicks lol (this one’s for HaS) JK!

  • DVJ

    bb_dot

How many wins did you expect any coach to squeeze out of that team? They were a terrible team with players on last year deals.

  • DVJ

Gentry got these boys playing defense don’t he?

    LOL

  • Knicks4life

Laying it on kinda of thick here Mucha no?

“Jared Jeffries was actually a valuable player in December-January. Mike D’Antoni found a way to turn one of the worst/least talented/most useless players in the league into one of the best help defenders in the NBA and a useful screen-setter on the offensive end.”

What is a valuable screen setter? Lol. You can’t even say with a straight face that the guy could play the screen and roll because he can’t finish or shoot. And Jeffries was actually a better man-defender in Washington.

” David Lee was horrible defensively and Mike D’Antoni should’ve benched him long ago… but offensively? The fact that David Lee became a point center and one of the best big men offensively with the high P&R = Pure genius.”

Offensively David Lee’s improvement was pretty incredible. But to call him a point center, akin to Athony Mason at Point forward, I’m not seeing. Its also kinda of hard to call someone a genius at anything when his team won 29 games this year and barely broke 30 last year.

“I also believe that he’s treating Gallinari the right way from a psychological standpoint.”

Weren’t you one of the main people screaming about how he was treating Gallo all season . . .not runnnig picks for him, not getting him the ball enough, killing his confidence. Now he is handling him the right way from a pyschological standpiont?

I hate the job D’Antoni did this year and last year. I didn’t mind the Nate benching, and didn’t mind brining Hill along somewhat slowly (I would have preferred 10-15 mpg), but his rotations, late game management, and “mind games” were just horrible coaching. I won’t even get into the team’s defense.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

they are back to the danni boy suns the league already warned them not to play like they played the spurs plus gentry won’t out coach PHIL but the suns player can out play the lakers if they try…

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • DVJ

The Suns defense is impregnable tonight.
Floyd Mayweather Jr ain’t got nothing on the Phoenix Suns.

  • Knicks4life

I go back and forth between Kobe and Lebron in terms of who is the better player. If you go championships I doubt Lebron ever catches Kobe (or MJ for that matter) Kobe probably has two or three more rings in him which is crazy. Maybe he will go down as the best of his generation if Lebron doesn’t win one and Wade doesn’t get any help down there in Miami.

But in terms of legendary status, putting them up there with the Magic, Bird, Jordan, Dr. J, Russel and Wilt class I don’t think Kobe will ever be there and I think part of that is the rape allegations and the Shaq feud. But maybe it is still fresh in my mind and 20 years from now, I and everyone else would have long forgotten Colorado.

  • bb_dot

DVJ, we had this conversation a few weeks ago if I remember correctly. The wins (or lack thereof) are not what concerns me. it is the lack of effort, lack of improvement, lack of in-game adjustments, lack of time management, short rotations that concern me. You believed he should have won between 30-35 games. I agree. He should have won at least 35.

  • Knicks4life

    It’s just one game Nostradumbass.

  • bb_dot

why is he suddenly going to care about d? seems he feels quite righteous about his style of play..

  • DVJ

A lot of players that are playing for the Suns now and contributing were never even coached by D’Antoni.

I guess there goes your side of the debate right out the bathroom window.

    All good playa

  • Mucha

    1. Jared Jeffries played off the ball as far as I can remember. He was very active without the ball, he was always setting screens for his teammates. Was he a better man defender in Was? Probably – but is it Mike D’Antoni’s fault?

    2. I didn’t call Mike D’Antoni a genius, don’t put words in my mouth. I said the idea that David Lee could play like a point center (and many people will agree with the notion that he was more of a point center than a traditional center) was pure genius.

    3. Read! I still believe that Mike D’Antoni didn’t help Gallinari the way he should have from a pure basketball standpoint. The knicks didn’t set enough screens for him. But I like the way he treats Gallinari from a psychological standpoint. He understands when Gallo needs to get his butt kicked but he gives him enough freedom to learn from his mistakes.

I’m not even saying that MD did a good job. But he did some good things.

  • Mucha

  • DVJ

This series is going to be a sweep.
If not it won’t go more than 5.

  • DVJ

You know what I find to be funny?
I wonder why we hear all these stories about how Lebron is speaking with Worldwide Wes, or how Lebron is speaking with Derrick Rose, or how Lebron is speaking with Coach Cal…..I think what’s most important is Lebron speaking with Chris Bosh. If he were to come, I feel him and Bosh speaking will be a huge part. If they agree to go to NY together I think that would be the kicker.

One more thing and Tommy I’m surprised you didn’t jump all over this but in the Donnie Walsh interview from yesterday he said he has the option to sign 2 max players and Lee.

  • Mucha

Well based on what we know Kobe Bryant did something wrong… he cheated on his wife. The rest is pure speculation knowing that suing superstars is a great way to make money…

It’s all a matter of preference at this point because we can’t predict the future but I think Kobe Bryant will belong to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson’s category if he wins another title.

LeBron James? He’s a rich man’s SF version of Karl Malone right now.

  • Mucha

    IMO

  • HaS

    “Nostradumbass”

    ROTFL

The thing about the Suns is their defense is influenced by their offense. When they’re hitting shots (especially their threes) they hustle a lot more on defense, but once they were missing shots in the game their body language didn’t look too good.

The Suns, and maybe that offensive style in general, is a frontrunner’s pace imho. It’s great when they’re playing with the lead, but when they’re down big those deep, quick shots/misses are murder.

KNICKS SEASON TICKETS PARTNER WANTED. – FACE VALUE

    Hi guys,

I am a huge Knicks fan, not a ticket broker. I recently bought tickets in Center Court Section 334, because i know they’ll be impossible to get after we get Lebron. But unfortunately I cannot afford them all right now.

If you want to get tickets while you still can, I will sell you 25% or 50% of my season ticket package for FACE VALUE ($74 per ticket). PLAYOFF rights are included.

If interested, please contact me at gocrushit@yahoo.com, and tell me how many tickets you’d like.

If any of you remember when the Lakers won last year Kobe was not that impressive at all…….. He wasn’t even that good during the Olympics……..which was mostly due to him being banged up 2 be somewhat fare…….but nobody’s more banged up or plays more banged up then Wade……besides A I….but he didn‘t win….the 1 thing people can only question in regards of him is his durability over the next 6years Basket Ball wise….Wade by FAAAAAAR was the best player on the Redeem Team…. He was the best player during the All Star game on the biggest stage the All Star game has ever been played on……he went into that game with a point 2 prove and he proved it…that’s more of a mental aspect of why he’s “The Best Basketball Player” in the league…….Kobe actually quit on D’antoni’s suns team(showing a little respect 2 dude) and looked defeated…. Wade would never go out like that or at least show it….(mentally tougher)example…….Wade is the only player that I know of that has won a NBA Championship without help from another “Super Star” or even an All Star especially in recent history….. Shaq may have been an All Star that year but he didn’t play like 1 and was especially invisible in the Finals….he probably made the All Star Team that year out of merit and or lack of Centers in the East…..he was done …..I honestly don’t believe Kobe could have brought that team back down 2-0 and down like 13 points with like 8+mins 2 play in his building ….to turn around and win the serious the way Wade did is why I think he’s the “Best Basketball Player” in the league…I don’t think anyone could have or would have the way he did it….even Riley at the time in Game 3 in the 4th had a look on his face like “oh sht“ he looked shook and that series looked real bleak at that time…..(mentally/physically/skillfully/dangerously) showed why he’s “The Best Basket Ball Player in the League”..his ability to deal with Shaq’s ego even though Shaq wasn’t the same Shaq and Wade turned them from a lottery team to a competitor in the Playoffs before Shaq got there shows that he can adjust 2 any situation including players hence him being all around “The Best Player in the League”……and even “thibodeu‘z defense”(….) couldn’t stop Wade that night….his mentality is that he refused to get swept on his home court even though he had NOBODY on the court or stands to help him……and when he looked down and yelled into his had and started talking to it was CLASSIC……..

  • YO SON

word……maybe if we get Amore or Dirk then we can begin….or maybe some amazing trade to get us a Super Star like CP3 or Mello…..or maybe when we win the lottery in 2013 and start rebuilding threw the draft or maybe……….hahahahaaa……………

So lets pay him millions for several years and watch him devalue our young players and not have them ready what what should be our coming out year.

White Isiah II has received premium pay for calling in sick! Many of are sick to watching this crap!

  • Mucha

Dwyane Wade had a great supporting cast. His NBA Finals performance was jordanesque but you can’t tell me that he didn’t have a great supporting cast (O’Neal-Mourning-Walker-Haslem frontcourt… damn).

  • x-man

Dude, The Lakers have too much size for the Suns. With Kobe, Fisher, artest and etc out top, the Lakers can just dump the ball off to Gasol, Bynum all day. They can beat the Suns so many ways and with various line-ups.

If they Lakers bring their B+ game, the Suns have very little deal with that.

Yet, If D’Antoni was still the Suns coach, this wouldn’t be a problem at all…because they would be home watching the Spurs deal with the Lakers.

The time the Suns beat the Lakers in a playoff with D’Antoni, Kobe was without Shaq ebcause he had just gone to Miami and the Lakers were Fakers then!

  • x-man

Sounds like you bought those tickets from a dude named DVJ!

  • x-man

Yikes! That right Mucha! Allow our coach to get paid max money while he doesn’t even help develop our young players. That’s right, give him another year to ruin what should have been our coming out party in 2010.

You’re like those hopeless ladies who think they’re gonna change their man because all he needs is their luv and one more chance to get it right! lol

All Kobe does is win!! Kills in every way!! Post game, Mid range jumper, long range jumper, dribble drive, pass the rock all NBA defense he is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers! I stopped getting in to the whos better argument because it is pointless, people hate on the dude and bring up pointless stuff he has been exonerated for in the long run. Fake rape beefs, shaq not working as hard as him and then crying like a girl over it because Kobe barked on him for it & was starting to eclipse him, the same issue Wade ended up having with him (conditioning).

Broken finger on the shooting hand, bad back, drained knee it dont matter he fights through and finds a way to win. The guy has done things in the game u only see in video games, he is so far ahead as far as pure basketball skill sets its not even funny!! Everything about him reads like Jordan but he has been hated because it would hurt to say he is that good! There are physically more gifted players who are great but there is not a better basketball player in the world then Kobe! to refute this fact is denial and not based on whats really going on out there. Look who they ran through OKC great team with maybe the best one two punch we will see in the coming years. Then they went on to smoke the Jazz who have who you can argue is the best if not tied for the best PG in the game as well as a solid team. Kobe is old, Kobe is hurt, Kobe made shaq mad, Kobe this Kobe that man all he do is WIN, WIN, WIN, puts his hands in the air and they stay there!!

Kobe should make his new theme song “What more can I say” by Jay-Z!

“I’m Supposed to be number one on everybody’s list, Lets see what happens when I no longer exist.”

  • blackwood

Dont forget it took a hail marry 3pt shot to knock em off while playing in the playoffs with Smush Parker & Kwame Brown lol

  • YO SON

That supporting cast can only be considered “great” if Wade had a #2 star next to him…..and he really didn’t…..which only makes that supporting cast real good… if that….not even “really good”……an example of what I mean is that if you take gasol off of the lakers how many championships are they winning….there supporting cast don’t look as good anymore…….
“BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE” !!!!!!!!

    On a slightly different note:

Has anybody read Isola’s piece in Tuesday’s Daily News entitled:

LeBron James reaches out to Eddy Curry, a move that may harm New York Knicks’ chances in free agency
    BY Frank Isola
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

    Tuesday, May 18th 2010, 4:00 AM

    Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2010/05/18/2010-05-18_james_trained_on_ny.html?r=sports%2Fbasketball%2Fknicks&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nydnrss%2Fsports%2Fbasketball%2Fknicks+%28Sports%2FBasketball%2FKnicks%29#ixzz0oHVM6WOH

Isola would lead one to believe that LeBron talking/working out with Eddy Curry could be a negative.

It’s funny how Frank doesn’t consider the angle that Wesley (who was involved in Eddy’s weight loss last year, along with Donnie Walsh) might be behind getting LeBron and Eddy in touch because he want’s LeBron to help ressurect Eddy’s career, so that LeBron might possibly have a viable big man here in NY next season if this is were he chooses to come on free agency.

    Any opinions out there?

Kobe is not the best player in the league. He was surpassed by LeBron in the 2006-07 season. The season LeBron carried a terrible team to the Finals. A team where Daniel Gibson was the 2nd best player on the roster. Most of you guys have flawed logic. Name me one year Kobe carried a team deep into the Playoffs with no help. That means no Shaq and no Pau Gasol or Artest. Kobe benefited from being placed in a situation where he got to play for a Hall of Fame coach who molded him into the player he became. On the other hand LeBron had Mike Brown. Kobe benefited from being able to play with the best C and most dominating force of his era in Shaq, high IQ, defensive oriented and clutch players like Robert Horry, Ron Harper, Rick Fox, Trevor Ariza( last season), a young Derek Fisher and Glen Rice. Now he has Gasol, Bynum, Odom and Artest. LeBron on the other hand had Big Z, Larry Hughes, No Show Williams, Side Show Bob( the only player I like), Delonte “sleep with mom” West, and old Wally S., a washed up Ben Wallace and washed up Shaq. Put LeBron in the situation Kobe was blessed with and he would have won the same amount of titles or more considering he would not have let his ego push Shaq out of town.

Btw, LeBron beat an elite NJ Nets team followed by the elite Detroit Pistons en route to the Finals…

The supposed negative treatment D’Antoni gave Marbury, Hughes, Robinson, and Curry will not play into Lebrons decision. Lebron is smart enough to know that Curry didn’t earn any playing time. Almost every other team he wouldn’t even have played a game. The fact that Curry is complaining because he didn’t get a chance is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. The guy had no right playing.

  • nick1985

maybe Lebron is trying to get Eddy Curry to accept a buyout!

  • BobbyFromBK

That’s right, Tommy. The headline of this post is Bogus. Just like D’antoni.

  • BobbyFromBK

    Without Question!

REEL TALK, idk how this can be a badd thing…..I think this shows that if Lebron comes to NY, he’d like to play with Curry, and make sure he’s in the best shape he can be in……Can Curry really have that many negative things to say about Mike D, everytime he practiced or played he’d get hurt….lol, soo it wasn’t D’antoni’s fault he wasn’t playing….

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

HAHAHA, YEA I THINK U NEED TO PUT THAT CAINE DOWN HOMIE…

Kobe is still better than Lebron, thus the reason why lebron is home eating popcorn, while watching kobe go for 40 5 n 5……obviously Lebron is where Kobe was a couple yrs ago, when he was mvp, and leading the league in scoring, but then getting swept out of the playoffs by the suns…

lebron doesn’t know how to make the guys around him better, he doesn’t know how or when to get in his teammates faces, to make them accountable for their mistakes….

look how kobe screamed on gasol in the first round of the playoffs against okc, since then gasol has been the best big in the playoffs…

KOBE IS STILL THE BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA, HANDS DOWN, NOOO QUESTION…..kobe is already 4+, and may make it 5 this yr…

  • NoVaCaInE

You obviously didn’t read my post…

“lebron doesn’t know how to make the guys around him better”

    Stops reading!

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

sorrry, i don’t believe in “IF” scenerios……you CANNOT say, if lebron was a laker he’d win 4titles..cause you don’t know that…you also don’t know if kobe would be able to win w/ the cav players….kobe knows when to take games over….lebron still worries about being the facilitator too much…especially when his team needs a big shot….

  • gbaked

the knicks tea-party is not really better then that.

scream and yell in the face of facts. I am louder and post more often therefor I am right and you are a _umbass.

  • gbaked

you sir… need to learn to actually read articles.

    you are the bogus one.

  • HaS

You know what, I didn’t read the article. You’re absolutely right. I read the post and from the post it seemed like pure conjecture to say that he was defending _’antoni. Now that I have had the time to read the article the author is clearly defending _’antoni. So I apologize to Tommy for that one. Going off the post itself I truly didn’t get that.

“scream and yell in the face of facts. I am louder and post more often therefor I am right and you are a _umbass.”

But this ^ is just “hate” because that’s not me holmes. I do not scream nor do I yell or call people names. I’m sorry if I get the better of you more often than not in our debates, but that’s no reason to make things up.

  • HaS

As a matter of fact it’s probably more often the “Kool-Aid Brigade” (lol that name cracks me up) who like to insult people and TYPE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME!!!!!!

  • NoVaCaInE

“lebron still worries about being the facilitator too much”

That’s LeBron’s game. The mistake most people make is comparing him so much to MJ (btw, there will never ever be another MJ), when his game is more like Magic’s (who also benefited from playing with a ton of talent). When LeBron gets the opportunity to play with another elite talent, preferably a PF or C, then I can be extremely critical of LeBron if he fails to deliver. The knock of KG throughout his career was that he was too unselfish, sound familiar? Then he gets to play with elite talent, wins a title and now that is all forgotten. You guys have to stop thinking inside of a box. Btw, how did your boy Kobe fair with all that talent in LA 2 yrs ago against a healthy Boston team? They did the same thing to LeBron(who played with much less talent btw) they did to Kobe. Everyone wants to kill LeBron for losing to the Celts but if you go position by position, the Celts had a mismatch at every position except for SF obviously…

    Rondo > No Show Mo
    Allen > Parker
    Pierce Jamison
Perkins and washed up Shaq I wont even bother with that.

    Bench edge goes to Boston.

Tommy wassup? It’s not coming out the way I’m typing it. SHM! It should read, Rondo is better than Mo, Allen better than Parker, Pierce not better than LeBron, KG better than Jamison…

  • bmathews77

Has anyone else heard about those rumors about why Lebron really wasn’t himself in the Boston series – About Delonte West sleeping with James’ mom?

    http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978238969

Just google “Delonte West Lebron James mom” and its all over. Dunno if it’s true though.

  • ScottD

Kobe has won nothing when he wasn’t playing with at least one bonafide all star around him.

Nothing personal, but I agree with NoVaCaIne.
That’s not to take any thing away from Kobe, who is an incredible player, but LeBron has never had a team like Kobe does this season supporting him.

    Gasol, Bynum, Artest, Odom etc.

  • HaS

“Da poor baby is mad because D’Antoni is coach. I guess you’ll be mad for a few more years….goo goo ga ga.”

    I truly doubt that.

  • BigDaddybluesman

Kobe overcame his injuries to be closer to 100%. He took over the game and went crazy, then sat down once the game was out of reach.

  • x-man

Yep but MJ had to carry and inspire migraine Scottie Pippen along to get his 1st ring! Remember, Shaq was playing caddy when Wade went off and won that ring against the Mavs!

Everyone needs help but LBJ is running out of time to be considered the greatest. I he makes any more bad mvoes, he could easily be the next Barkley or Malone. All that talent and NO rings!

  • x-man

The million dollar question is “Why NOT U?” lol BTW I was crying last night watching the Stanks turn my joy to tears. Got d-a-m-n Papab##tch. He fast ball was straighter than Billy Wagners!

  • HaS

“One more thing and Tommy I’m surprised you didn’t jump all over this but in the Donnie Walsh interview from yesterday he said he has the option to sign 2 max players and Lee.”

Because he didn’t and he can’t?

    Hey guys,

First time posting but I read this blog every day while I’m “working”. Thought now would be a great time to hop in and give an opinion because it seems like this is the first time me and YO SON agree on anything.

I don’t know if Dwade is the best player in the game, but his finals win is the most impressive accomplishment of any player in last decade. He won it basically by himself. Kobe always had Gasol and Shaq. Lebron doesn’t even have a ring. Tim Duncan had Robinson, Parker, and Ginobili. Dwade had Dwade. He single handidly brought his team back from an 0-2 deficit against a way more talented Mavericks team and won himself a championship.

His tenacious play and attitude are what puts him a level above LeBron in my “players I most want to be Knicks list.” I am through with drooling over LeBron in a Knicks jersey. He has reached the Brett Farve level of drama queen in my book. If we get him cool, but I would much rather have Dwade running my team.

    Gonzo

  • YO SON

wouldnt expect u 2 agree or most…but instead 2 go with the frey……. like most dudes on here…………………………

    Good lookin tho………
