Chandler Charged with Misdemeanor

by Tommy Dee on May 19th, 2010 at 10:02 am

Via NY Post-

“…Chandler, who turned 23 last week, was carrying what was described as a “small amount” of marijuana when cops pulled over the 2010 Mercedes-Benz he was riding in near 94th Avenue and 213th Street in Queens at 11:30 p.m., police said.

Cops decided to search Chandler after they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said. Chandler was issued a desk appearance ticket for the misdemeanor charge.

    trade value .. meet Zero

  • Mal

Wow Big I was thinking the exact same thing.

Also I was wondering is that why Ill Will is always so chilled and quiet or is it paranoia from being blazed lol

Plus another off season of surgery (2 this time) meaning a possible nother slow start. What GM wants to chance that, Im sure we’ll find out soon

  • jlefev1

Wilson has gotta be smarter then that not to be driving around with pot in his car.. But it does not surprise me that he smokes weed… because i think tons of nba players do it.. but the report saying it was a small amount.. Wilson is a great kid tho so im not really worried I dont think its a big deal.

  • JaymanJD

Maybe thats why he shows little emotion or energy sometime on the court hes Stoned man hahahha so was the whole team last year or for 10 years for that matter hahaha.

  • traps9

    Indeed.

  • adornoj1

and he’s set to undergo sports-hernia surgery… FAIL

  • DVJ

I can’t get over the Nets LOL

How are they not out of the Lebron race?

This won’t affect Chandlers trade value at all.
That’s if he’s even on the block.

  • Dylan

Maybe he just really wants to stay in New York. Why would that be? Could he have inside info on Lebron coming? LeBron is going to be a Knick! (this is a brief summary of an article that should appear any minute now via the Lebronarazzi).

  • BigDaddybluesman

    Trade value now = Zero

That explains a lot about his play and poor BBall IQ…..he’s a pot head…LMAO.

    Go Knicks…..I mean Nets….LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ds2488

Just terrible. The Knicks are such a tragic comedy at this point. This does explain a lot about Wilson’s lack of aggression and fire on the court. I also now understand his short, simple post-game interviews as the responses of a paranoid pothead lol.

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

WOW, yea that def explains a lot……i always thought he was either slow or a stoner…..that explains why he’s sooooo laid back and timid…..

  • LBJ2010

What needs to happen for you to be a Nets fan again? Or rather, what will it take for the Knicks to retain your ever so valuable services as a fan? Can’t you just jump ship already so we can be spared of your endless bitching?

  • onemoretime

Hey man Robert Parrish was a notorious stoner and it didn’t keep him from having a very productive career. As long as he doesn’t let it affect his play i couldn’t give two craps what he does in his spare time.

  • BigDaddybluesman

Not yet I want to make everybody clear their heads from the spiked kool aid first.

I’m not enjoying this but yet in a way I am.

    Go Nets.

  • BigDaddybluesman

Parrish was a 20/10 allstar, Wilson is what?

  • TobyKnight

I don’t care that he smokes weed. No worse than drinking, but I am disappointed that he was driving while high. That’s really selfish and not cool.

I think he could complement LBJ nicely, so I’m not majorly motivated to trade him, unless of course we were getting back serious talent.

So many players smoke pot that I’m not sure this will be a major inhibitor, but the injury is more of an issue.

  • Rene

This hurts his trade value ,we need Rubio to get pinched on some weed then the trade will work.LOL This might explain all his stupid tatoos.

  • zdiddy

This is why he plays like “Chill Wil” and not “ill Wil”. Dude is always calm, very reserve and seemingly unmotivated……it is not Wilson, it is the weed. Dude is a nice young fella, but if he lay off the Ganja, he would have a greater sense of urgency and may even be a lot more productive.

Wil needs to give up the weed so he can have more speed when thinking and reacting on the basketball court.

I hope this doesn’t affect his trade value….

GO NY, GO NY, GO…..NYK 4 LIFE

  • jlefev1

Everyone needs to calm down with the jokes about Wilson…. He is a good kid, he had a very small amount on him… that does not mean he is going home getting high after every game… I personally think this is his year to really breakout and this little incident does not change that opinion.

  • harris

This is just not that big a deal. I’d be willing to wager that well over 50% of the players in the NBA smoke marijuana (based on what has been said by many in the past). Even the arresting police officers don’t think that much of this situation (having only issued a desk appearance ticket). The act itself obviously can’t be condoned, but it is doubtful that it will have any meaningful impact on Chandler’s trade value.

  • zdiddy

Chandler has always been in my top 2 favorite Knick since he has been here. But honestly, his personality is very representative of a full/long time weed smoker. He is very laid back, slow reacting and appears like he is chilling on a beach in Jamaica.

I really believe that instead of him “lighting up a blunt”, someone needs to “light a fire under him”, so we can get the best out of him and he can have a big year. The great players in the NBA are always in attacking mode. Smoking weed, takes away that aggression needed to dominate in this league.

The guys is talented and I am not happy that we may trade him. I hope he is a Knick for his entire career. He is very young and truly a great kid. Therefore, this weed thing is not going to change my opinion of him.

If he wants to smoke weed, then that is his business. However, he needs to wait until he retires from basketball (or more importantly off the Knicks) to engage in these activity that has affected his demeanor on the court. I agree that smoking marijuana is not the worse thing a person can do. In fact, alcohol and tobacco use is arguable worse than marijuana.

GO NY, GO NY, GO…..NYK 4 LIFE!!

  • PipeDreamin

its a little disappointing that he was driving with it in the car. he should know better than than. but lets get real. most of the league smokes weed.

stop with the ‘now i understand why hes always so timid.’ its socially acceptable for players to get drunk but not high? relax. will has been a stand-up guy til this. when he shoots himself in the leg or rapes a girl, then we can make a fuss.

its not even getting mainstream coverage. no one cares.

  • YO SON

    ahahaha……..

  • YO SON

    WHAT….hahaha….

  • Knicks4life

As far as I can tell, he wasn’t charged with a driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Just for minor possession.

  • YO SON

    THE BEST WE GOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hydr0

    geez guys, overreact much? LOL

He wasn’t even caught smoking it, they just found traces of weed in his car?

As for the “smell”, I would give even odds that most african american 23 year olds driving a mercedes in queens find to have their car searched for “smells” that don’t exist more often than not. It doesn’t mean the car actually smelled of anything.

He will get a tap on the wrist as a worst case scenario. No big deal imo

  • Jeff C

I’m surprised that everyone’s taking this so seriously. “a small amount of marijuana.” You can read into this and think he’s a pothead, he’s clearly not committed to improving his game, he doesn’t care about the team, etc etc etc.. He’s just dumb for getting caught.

Or you can realize that he’s a 23 year old with a life outside of basketball doing something that nearly everyone in the world, (at that age specifically) does occasionally. As long as it’s not a habit or a pattern there’s nothing to read into here. you think Michael Jordan wasn’t on drugs?

But the alarmist knicks ‘fans’ who always see the worst in everything and constantly trace everything back to the same doomsday scenario; they will tell you differently.

    A small amount of marijuana;

  • http://www.reeltalkblog.com Shakespeare

i really don’t see a problem with it, as long as it just in the off-season, and when he’s training and playing during the season his lungs are drug free..

if kareem smokes a dubie once and a blue, def farrr from the worse ish in the world..

“Abdul-Jabbar suffers from migraines,[28] and his use of cannabis to reduce the symptoms has caused legal ramifications.”

  • Hustle

I’ve never smoked pot in my life, but I can’t stand the demonization of marijuana. It’s a load of crap that people’s lives and reputations get ruined over something so harmless.

And I’m not just saying that because it hurts Wil’s trade value. People lose jobs over it. Meanwhile their coworkers can be 10 times as irresponsible with alcohol but it doesn’t matter as long as they don’t hurt anyone else.

    /soapbox

  • Mucha

    That’s what it’s all about unfortunately…

  • Mucha

Nas and Damian Marley “Distant Relatives” in stores now.

  • Hydr0

It sounds to me like you just choose to drink different brand of kool aid. The Nets suck. If you want to root for the closest good team, you should root for the Celtics.
