BT Makes his Predictions

by Tommy Dee on June 19th, 2010 at 3:10 pm

I’ve been checking out his blog lately and it continues to impress. BT insists that no one knows where they are going as of yet. But here are his predictions for the upcoming summer, followed by mine.

“…Since everyone else is secondary, grab a dart, and fire away!

Lebron James: 3 year extension with the Cavs, followed by a similar deal with the Knicks–or Nets

Dwayne Wade: staying put

Chris Bosh: Miami

Amare Stoudamire: Knicks or Nets

Carlos Boozer: Nets (Knicks could be in play as well, depending upon Amare)

Joe Johnson: Knicks (4-year deal, nowhere near max-money)

David Lee: No clue…might very well be among the last FA’s standing. So much depends on what transpires with the elite players, but I think the Knicks and Nets are in play

Dirk Nowitski: Mavs

Rudy Gay: (restricted FA) stays in Memphis but T Wolves will pursue aggressively…”

I don’t see James signing a 3 year deal with the Cavs. If he stays, i hope he stays forever. That said, I think he’ll be in NY and I don’t think it’s a given it’s with either Bosh or Amar’e. But odds are that each of the bigs will join James in NY and Wade in Miami. I keep hearing that Miami is a play for the big 3, but I simply can’t see that happening.

I think Lee ends up going to the Nets. Dirk stays. Wade stays. Johnson ends up with the Bulls. Boozer ends up replacing Amar’e wherever he goes. I think the Grizz trade their pick and use the money to pony up and keep Gay.

But then again, like BT says, no one really has any idea.

Are you guys spinning that espn free agent slot machine again? LOL

  • PipeDreamin

I’ve been visiting this blog for about two years now… And for the last two years all we’ve been talking about was the summer of 2010…

    AND IT’S FINALLY HERE.

We’ve argued over who we should sign… Who we could sign… Who we should trade… Who we could trade for…

And we’re finally gonna get some answers. We’ve been suffering Knicks fans for YEARS now. And in two weeks everything can change.

    Jerome James… Starbury… Isiah Thomas… Eddy Curry… Steve Francis… Trading Ariza… Trading Camby… Losing draft picks… Gutting our roster for cap space… LOSING…

    Was it all worth it?

    We’re about to find out.

  • PipeDreamin

    haha

  • PickNY

    Tommy,

Come on man, have some faith! LBJ & Bosh is coming to the World’s Greatest Stage period

I’m not moving from what I believe in and neither speculating on what other free agents are going to do. LBJ will dictate the ball rollin once he makes it known that NYC is the place to be.

PickNY and the rest will follow. Carmelo in 2011 and the rest will follow.

  • Knicks4life

If the Knicks draft Warren, Stephenson, Brackins and sign Joe Johnson and Amare for less than max money and sign Carmelo next off-season (if that is even possible under a new labor agreement) I would be satisfied.

The Hill trade would still have been a diaster. And the only way we come close to winning a championship is with Melo but that would be a good team for the next 4 to 5 years. We would have to use our draft pick in 2011 on either a shotblocking big or starting PG (Warren ideally would be the backup) but at least we would not be as awful as we have been for the last decade.

If LBJ and Wade go elsewhere and I were Donnie I would do everything in my power to get Dirk here.

  • Hydr0

OK, what the heck…i gave it a spin….here is how it says things will work out:

    LeBron–Clippers
    Wade–Heat
    Bosh–Nets
    Amar’e–Bulls
    Dirk–Mavs
    Johnson–Nets
    Boozer–Rockets
Knicks–Lee (The perfect spin for HaS LOL)

    Worst Spin Ever! haha

    I can’t wait until July 8…I really can’t

    Have fun:

Im with you on those outcomes Tommy. To me, they make sense. Bron/Bosh – NY, Wade/Amare – Miami, Lee – NJ, JJ – Bulls….I think it works out for everyone. Each team gets what they need, all the players wind up in ideal situations, it’s just right. Although, I do wish Dirk would pull out of Dallas and give himself a chance to win somewhere else. I’ll go out on a limb and say that if Dirk DOES leave Dallas, I can see a situation with him ending up in NY with Lebron. I think thats the only way he leaves Dallas (or maybe to head to Miami with Wade). Do these guys want a championship bad enough to take less $$? Idk, probably not, BUT, would Dirk/Bosh/Bron take less to play here on shorter deals for a chance at the Jewelry?
    PG – Douglas
    SG – Lebron
    SF – Gallo
    PF – Dirk
    C – Bosh

Or move Gallo to the bench and bring in a shotblocking center..
    PG – Douglas
    SG – Lebron
    SF – Dirk
    PF – Bosh
    C – ???

Bench of Gallo/Wilson/Walker/Barron/Draft picks…(Torrance or Randle?)

(ok, I know thats kinda crazy..but what the hell…we’re still in speculation mode.LOL)

If we get JJ and Amare, you would still say the Hill trade was a disaster?

I mean, I have no idea how good that team will be next year, but I would guess we could at the very least contend for a 4/5 seed. There’s no way Houston will be able to do anything better than a 6 seed in the West imo. If we have a better record, that trade would basically be Hill and a 2012 first rounder(which would be late teens at the worst, probably mid to early 20′s) for JJ/Amare. Is that trade really a disaster to you?

Of course it all depends on how good we are next year.

  • Dylan

The only way we could afford Dirk, Bosh, and James would be if we did a sign and trade wih Gallo and Curry for Bosh. Personally though, I would rather sign JJ. Dirk at PF and Bosh at C would be HUGE liabilities defensively. Bosh can’t play center. He is strictly a PF, and Dirk is also a leability defensively. I think the Knicks should try and sign LeBron and Bosh, trade for Parker, CP3, or Collison, and sign or draft a defensive center. Defense wins Championships. When we are facing teams like Orlando and LA in the playoffs, you NEED interior defenders. Boston probably would have won that series if Perkins didn’t go down. Defensive centers are crucial in the playoffs.

  • Qaspec

With Dirk, that’s an interesting team. Let’s say for arguments sake the Knick also sign Joe Johnson.

    Dirk
    Gallo
    Chandler
    J. Johnson
    Douglas

It has the ability to score and defend at every position. Dirk can post-up some, all 5 guys can stick the 3. Ultimate “spacing team”. Joe Johnson can take some of the PG decision making duties until Douglas matures into that role. While the defense is not “elite” it’s much improved over what the Knicks have currently. Use the bench to sign cheap specifically skilled role players(Shotblocker, Rebounder, Hustle Guy, Instant Scorer, etc).

What I like about this team is at the end of games any of those 5 can hit shots forcing the opp defense to make difficult decisions. That team would also be great in closing out games with free throws.

Chandler, Johnson and Douglas all have the ability to drive and slash. Kick out game and pick/roll would be awesome. Chandler could be the key to this team though. He could do a little of everything for that type of team. He’s be a better Marion in my opinion.

If the team lost out on Lebron I would be happy with that scenario.

  • bob go knicks

Would’nt it be something if everyone stayed put, nothing happened, and Isiah Walsh was caught with his pants down?

  • bob go knicks

are you gonna move from what you believe in when LBJ signs with the CAVS?

  • BigDaddybluesman

In all honesty I really feel that when it’s all said and done there is an 80% chance both Lebron and Bosh will be Knicks.

I do not think Lebron comes to the Knicks without Bosh and visa versa.

To add some players who are filler and give minutes is what is the key. Not to over spend but get some quality/quaint high risk high reward players who can give minutes and NOT LOSE a game. Maybe some reclamation projects like Adam Morrison, Eddy Curry, Antoine Walker and some other players who if coached up can maybe give you some minutes off the bench without giving the game away. It would actually be Bosh and LeBron controlling those guys not the coach.

Douglas, Chandler, LeBron, Bosh, Gallo, Walker and Baron????????? Add a few draft picks and some bench guys who can come in and do SOMETHING, not have to win a game just play well enough for a few minutes. IMHO that’s a better team than the Cavs have to offer King James.

Can that team beat a healthy veteran laker team? NO not with D’assholi as the coach. Bring in another coach and wait until 2012 to get rid of Curry’s contract and add more talent and then you can make a 3 -4 year run for a championships with that core.

  • LBJ2010

That team would be pretty tough for your Nets to compete with.

  • JeffM729

The Hill trade can only be evaluated after we see how he develops and who Houston gets with our first round picks in 2011 and 2012. The Eddy Curry trade turned into LaMarcus Aldridge and Joakim Noah. Now that’s a disaster. In addition, Hill and the 2 first round picks could have been used in a sign and trade ths summer. So it”s wait and see,

Amare and JJ may work, but no way you get ether for less than a max deal. In the predictions above no one is heading to Chicago. They will offer someone a max deal. JJ would fit well. Other teams like Washington, Sacramento, Mnnesota, and the Clippers have max money available that they will offer. OKC can offer max money and Jeff Green for a PF.

Believe me, JJ and Amare will get offered max money by someone. Their agents will say, SHOW ME THE MONEY or we go to team X. Donnie will have no choice. He needs to sign two max free agents. He’s painted in the corner with the Hill deal.

  • Hydr0

Do you believe that Avery will have a better season than D’antoni next year?

  • bob go knicks

    Avery has a better moustache

  • BigDaddybluesman

Maybe not since the Knicks will be out coached whenever they play the Nyets.

It all depends on who each teams signs. Right now the nets have a better core and coach, a better GM and by an ocean length plus a bottle of vodka a better owner.

The Knicks with Chandler, gallo, Lebron and Bosh against the Lopez, Courtney and maybe David Lee, Joe Johnson or maybe Amare, Devin Harris, Yi, high first round pick and maybe some other good veterans obtained through trade since the Nyets do have assets.

I would LOVE to see that kind of competition between these teams instead of always Boston and the cavs, magic and so on.

I just did 10 spins on the espn FA slot machine, here were the results and winners(team with the most spins on the player):

    James-Cleveland
    Wade-Heat
    Bosh-Bulls
    Amare-Heat
    Joe Johnson-Hawks
    Boozer-Utah
    David Lee-Nets
Dirk-Mavs-10 of 10 spins came up Mavs

Wow if this ever happened, what would the Knicks plan be?

That team has no post D or rebounding. Teams like the Magic, Celtics, and Hawks would abuse us inside.

  • ricksthepick

For fun I’ve spun the wheel a bunch of times and the only person we consistently get, and it’s less often than not, is the Bosh-pit. I’ve never seen us get LeBron.
