More Draft Notes

Man, this draft is so crazy to judge.

So I’ve heard the Rockets are in love with Hassan Whiteside, but the report out of Houston is that they are trying to jump into the top 10. The main reason, a source told me, is to get into the Chris Bosh sweepstakes. Secondly, however, is because the Pacers equally like Whiteside and may take him at 10. I think he’ll turn out to be the best big in the draft, and will be out of the Knicks reach, so much so, a source tells me that they haven’t even worked him out privately.

Whiteside, who we’ve talked about briefly, is a pure shooting big built in the Aldridge/Camby mode, much more so than Craig Brackins is.

On the Lance Stephenson front, via Myles Mills, the Nets aren’t interested and from what I’m hearing, neither will the Knicks unless something drastically changes.

Ryan Richards is horrible, dont fall for the hype

Nobody knew who the kid was before the combine, now hes a huge 2nd round steal? Anybody that likes him is faking it, because its likely none of you guys have seen him actually play outside of the combine…

  • Mal

I guess Hakeem has said good things about Whiteside. I read somewhere yesterday that Hakeem had been working with him, low post post moves and footwork.

I really want this kid but I know he will not be there for us, thanks Zeke for giving Utah our pick groan :(

  • Chris Alvino

I disagree. I have watched game footage of Ricahrds (not just highlight reels), and this kid has game. He has a little bit of Lamar Odom to his game, and at 18 or 19 years old, his frame will continue to fill out.

Watch some game clips of Richards and you can see his ability to post up, hit the outside jumper, knock down free throws, handle the ball, and rebound.

For a player his height, he has great agility, much like Odom. Oh and he is left handed.

I am not well schooled enough on him to be able to put him up against his peers, but this guy has unquestionable talents.

  • VOR

If Richards played college ball he would be talked about as a top 10 player!

  • J_Starks3

Anyone an insider with ESPN? ??? What Ford talking about with Philly and trading the #3 pick????

  • cms9675

I have no idea who half these college prospects are to be honest. I just hope the ones we do pick are enough to get a couple FA to come our way.

  • VOR

It won’t be any player the Knicks have the potential to draft late in the 1st or early in the 2nd, It will be either the money or the money!

  • Magik_Trick

Crazy part about Whiteside is that D’Antoni might like, not because his play style, but they got that Marshall connection

and IDK, im still not sold on Richards, the competition in England is much less than it is in a country like Spain for example, let alone compared to the NBA, but i’ll dig deeper, nonetheless hes intriguing

  • bob go knicks

Why is Wilson Chandler begging Donnie Walsh to take Jerome Jordan in this thursdays draft?

  • JeffM729

Portland just traded the 44th pick and cash to Golden State for the 34th pick.

  • JaymanJD

Good Shot blocking presence for sure best big man in the draft not so much. If the Knicks had a shot at Cousins I think id prefer him instead. Cousins game is way more polished and he has way more talent and a potential dominating center for years to come.

  • VOR

You put a bong in your hand Bob and you might be asking Walsh to draft Jerome Jordan also! My guess would be he meant Jerome “Randle!”

  • bbrody1

    thats something we shouldve done

  • VOR

If that’s true Portland traded up to snatch one of the quality bigs that didn’t get drafted in the 1st round! “Ryan Richards!”

  • JeffM729

I’d be surprised if Whiteside went before the 22-23 pick to either Portland or Minnesota. He’s too raw to contribute immediately. The teams picking sooner will get more ready players. I see Udoh, Aldrich, and Davis going in the lottery and guys like Orton and Whiteside in the 20′s.

A Celtic nut firend of mine says they want Alabi.

  • JeffM729

I would hope we are looking to buy picks rather then trade up. The 2nd round is a crapshoot and 3 picks are better than 2.
