Slam: Two Knicks Top 30 under 25

by Tommy Dee on June 22nd, 2010 at 9:56 pm

Because I love debate, and of course, accountability, here is Slam magazine’s article of the “Best 25 players under 25.”

What you need to know (stick your chest out main man “Yo Son”) Wilson Chandler ranks 23, Danilo Gallinari ranks at 30 and…wait for it…Brook Lopez is top 15.

At this point it’s fair, yet I disagree in parts. Have at it.

Oh, also, Russell Westbrook is ions ahead of OJ Mayo.

  • YO SON

    Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Boots

    eons

  • YO SON

no bias WILL is better ALL AROUND then all those dudes before him from 17-22 outside of bargani………..In my humbled……….

  • DrMet

    ion = molecule or atom

eon = geological time unit about a billion years

    Ions ahead is essentially tied

  • SilentJay

    At least Gallo’s getting there.
Good for Will, hopefull he’ll rise the list as soon as the season gets going. I really hope the injuries make a firm stop.

  • HaS

Technically, Gallinari didn’t make the list.

    He’s “on the cusp”.

At least a Knick made it.

  • Its The Kid

So what you’re saying is Jordan Hill and Gallo arent on the top 25 list… But Lopez, Jennings, and Wil are… And that could have been our team… Interesting.

  • Magik_Trick

Oh, leave Tommy alone with his scientific terms…

Anywho, hopefully we’ll add 2-3 more on that list in the next year or so…

  • Its The Kid

Honorable mention status… But he’s got time

  • PickNY

Maybe now these Chandler & Gallo haters will chill the hell-out! These low IQ guys always suggesting that we mortgage our young core players for 1 star is CRAZY!

This also should make these haters realize that there are others who appreciate the development of our players! Why build up rookies for others to capitalize on? They have that win tomorrow syndrome. They must of forgot on their first year on the job that they wasn’t expected to become an overnight success.

    Anyway, I hope they chill!

  • Jankees27

theres no point in what-ifs. whats done is done, and im happy with our chances right now

  • Crushalot

Aren’t the other guys on the cusp ahead of Gallo all former second round picks? No way the Knicks touch Lopez with D’Antoni but it is too bad they missed out on him.

  • YO SON

The last laugh is so sweet (pause on the HAHAHA’z for now YO SON)

    LONG LIVE ILL WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Its The Kid

Good thing this article came out, before July 1st… Even having two players in the top 30 is better than none… Hopefully Bosh and Lebron read SLAM ha…

  • TJPry

Yea i agree, trying to be as unbias as possible, but Wil should be ranked ahead of a few of these guys. i.e. Wilson is a better player than Kevin Love.
Have a problem with JR Smith being ranked where he is (maybe it’s just because I don’t like him) but, I like Eric Gordon and Gallo as better shooters and all around players even right now.

  • BiggieSmalls

did i miss it.. how many is this out of?

how many under 25 in the NBA in total?

  • Its The Kid

Well if the whole blog thought that way then I would go with that way of thinking… But sometimes people need to be reminded of what reality is… I wont be singing that “no point of what-ifs” if we strike out in Free Agency, that’s for sure…

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

that list is retarded SLAM is only good at gettin good pictures in there magazine

  • ds2488

    lol

    DOWN WITH GALLINARI

    jk man.

  • ds2488

pretty much. They have some good interviews, but their basketball analysis does seem to be lacking.

  • Its The Kid

Considering the players on this list can go back 5drafts I’d say it’s definitely more than 100

  • PipeDreamin

    agreed.

    17. Bargani
    18. OJ Mayo
    19. Wilson Chandler
    20. So on and so on…

  • PipeDreamin

    really?

  • PipeDreamin

[i tried to just write "really?" but it wouldn't let me. It said i was posting duplicate comments...]

    REALLY???

  • bbrody1

agreed, their “top 50 nba players” list is also retarded, this article was just the opinion of some college kid in cali

LOL who would u rather have on ur team monta ellis? or steph curry, westbrook, gay, lopez, collison etc… ranking players is pointless especially when u factor in the contracts they have

  • ds2488

Whoah. Wait a second. This is one of the worst lists I have ever seen. Holy crap.

Marvin Williams at 22??? Ahead of Wilson, Gallo, Gordon, Jennings, Stuckey, and Collison. Are you kidding me??

OJ mayo behind Jeff Green, George Hill, and JR freaking SMITH of all people.

Josh Smith at 3rd. Are you Freaking kidding me?

    Michael Beasley at 15?

No joke, but this is one of the worst most innaccurate things I have ever read and a major waste of time. Who is this guy? He said he valued winning above all else, which who the heck knows what that even means. What the heck was this list. Seriously gets me angry.

  • SilentJay

Lol. I think that if we strike out this summer everyone’s gonna remember those “what ifs” we all remember.

  • SilentJay

I think they’re just based on production. Taking into consideration the players salary wouldn’t really be fair since Ellis’ been around longer than Curry.
With salaries it’d be completely different.

  • Its The Kid

All “In Donnie We Trust” comments should be banned and met with loss of commenting privileges then

  • SilentJay

Maybe Beasley’s higher than he should be, or maybe that’s just me, I’ve never seen him ahead of Green (whose game’s great imo) and Mayo.

  • Its The Kid

I think it’s taking making the Playoffs into account… Which places some players higher than they should… But in my opinion Westbrook might be top 5 and is definitely no lower than 6…

  • harris

Brook Lopez is a center so that automatically enhances his standing. But it’s kind of funny to say that you value winning above all else, and you put a guy who was the centerpiece of a team that lost 70 games ahead of 15 guys. Not worth all that much attention, however.

  • Mucha

    LOL

    On point as usual

  • SilentJay

He’s a great PG, I might be an idiot but I see him surpassing what Rondo’s doing in a couple of years. It did take Rondo a couple of years to improve his FG% but I see Westbrook doing it faster. Don’t know if they’re D abilities can be compared just yet, but he can be seen as Rondo Jr for now.

  • Mucha

    01. Kevin Durant
    02. Dwight Howard
    03. Rajon Rondo
    04. Derrick Rose
    05. Tyreke Evans
    06. Andrew Bynum
    07. Russell Westbrook
    08. Brook Lopez
    09. Al Horford
    10. OJ Mayo
    11. LaMarcus Aldridge
    12. Stephen Curry
    13. Josh Smith
    14. Rudy Gay
    15. Monta Ellis
    16. Brandon Jennings
    17. Eric Gordon
    18. Andrea Bargnani
    19. Jeff Green
    20. DANILO GALLINARI
    21. WILSON CHANDLER
    22. Michael Beasley
    23. George Hill
    24. Darren Collison
    25. Kevin Love etc

  • Mucha

    legit?

  • PickNY

Does it matter? His name made the cut scrub!

  • Mucha

Good to see Ill Will get some recognition though, well-deserved

  • JeffM729

Much better list than SLAM. You da Man!

    I’d switch Lopez and Bynum.

  • SilentJay

Not bad. I’d switch Smith with Aldrige and Gallo with Hill. But pretty fair imo.

  • barnaby8787

    Rodney stuckey is missing…

  • SilentJay

RealGM reporting that the Bucks are dealing a 2nd round pick for CDR. MIL really mmaking moves to replace Salmons. Nice.

  • Mucha

    Thanks JeffM!

It’s a toss-up between Brook Lopez and Andrew Bynum IMO, Lopez has better stats obviously but I think Bynum’s more of a difference-maker. It’s almost unfait to compare Lopez, Bynum tho (Nets, Lakers)… it’s a matter of preference I guess.

    Aldridge/Smith = tough call. I prefer LMA because he’s not a bonehead but I like J Smoove…

    I forgot Stuckey I think he’s #23, #24 or #25 on my list

  • ds2488

Great List Mucha. Definitely much better than the slam one. That one was a joke. Im not sure I would put Horford as high as you, but I pretty much agree with everything else. Awesome list man.

  • bob go knicks

  • the oak

Pay Zero attention to this list. A complete Joke.

    Monta Ellis ahead of Westbrook?
Josh Smith ahead of Derrick Rose?

There are some more I could argue with but those stick out.

  • Bloop33

Bynum when healthy is better than Brooke Lopez no question. Its a shame he’s hit an injury patch so early in his career b/c he looked as if he was really hitting his stride in 08′.

  • Bloop33

Good for Wilson, great for him to be ranked relatively high. If only he had a little more SWAGG and heart in his game, something to kind make you say “that kids got it!” instead of just mentioning his athleticism and marginal improvements thus far. Like who wants to buy a Chandler jersey? not my ass…Jerseys are kind of reflection of your persona as a fan and he makes it kinda hard for me (pause) to make any sort of connection with him (pause). I mean for a guy with “Thrill” tattooed on his arm, he’s about as “Thrilling” as the World Cup’s been thus far. (come on USA, shut me up!) I just think if he would’ve YAMMED it on somebody last season, and let out a little emotion…just a little, he wouldn’t seem like such an afterthought when talking about our core and what we could put around LBJ.

You can tell me till you’re blue in the face “thats just not Wilsons personality” etc, but frankly his persona and parts of his game (THE HANDLE) is like a giant bland box of Oat Bran out there, no sugar. I swear I think his lack of “Fire and Desire” (to quote Rick James, not Clyde Frazier) hurt his stock as a player, I really do. This is a stars league but even “Mr. Bland” himself, Tim Duncan, one of the biggest stars we have, gets pumped up now and again. A little personality goes a long way in this world and the NBA.

Plain and simple, dude needs to come in next season ballin like a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch!

…Sorry felt like a good time for a Wilson Chandler rant.

  • HaS

I would switch Danilo Gallinari with Robin Lopez.
