ESPN Explains LBJ/Bosh “Done Deal” Rumors

by Tommy Dee on June 27th, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Thanks, as always, to Big C.

Discuss…The NBA could void a deal they thought was already brokered? Interesting.

  • Dylan

Sounds like this dude actually knows what he is talking about!

  • bob go knicks

well ,there had to be at least one after a year and a half on this blog

  • yuhdunknow2g

lol i agree. he made some really good points that none of us even thought of..or even came close. everyone (including myself) was pretty worried about the whole “its a done deal” thing with bron and cb4 going to chi. this vid makes me feel a lot better

  • JeffM729

ESPN is reporting the Knicks will offer Joe Johnson a max contract Thursday. He is their first meeting, so he could be max free agent number one. There are lots of PF’s to go around so that maybe the plan. Looks like LeBron is not going to hold us up in getting players.

  • jgilch82

I don’t get it. If we offer him max he will accept .. Thn what.. What if lbj don’t wanna play w him?
R they gonna lowball JJ first maybe?
Wish we knew the inner workings lof these processes.

Anyway can someone recap the video for
me please I can’t see it on my phone

  • jgilch82

  • itzyung1

Hey If we offer JJ a Max Contract And He Agrees Im All For It. It just depends on how long it is , 3 or 4 Years Im Good, 6 years Hell No.
    Hopefully Lebron Comes With Him.

    TD
    JJ
    LJ
    Gallo
    Jerome Jordan?

  • barnaby8787

I wasn’t paying attention to who said it, but someone on sportscenter said that JJ will be the first to sign with NY and it’s the best case scenario for them simply b/c then they can say “hey we have JJ, come here” to lebron, which may be the most intriguing if other FA’s don’t sign quickly.

  • knicksfan36

JJ is not deserving of a max contract. If the Knicks were to sign him then i’d offer him around 12-14 mill a year. LBJ would take a max contract. And if i’m correct that would leave the Knicks with enough cap space to keep Lee’s Bird Rights and offer him a 10 mill a year contract as well.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Come on knicksfan with all due respect who wants Lee back on this team? It would do nothing but bring back bad memories. Me as a fan want a clean slate.

  • RR

I really think that all these FA’s want to do sign and trades so they can max out their contracts. So if JJ want to sign with the Knicks he will tell ATL you need to trade me or get nothing.

I heard on the espn FA show by the former GM that teams like ATL & Tor will really push for sign and traded if they are losing their guys. 1st reason is to get talent back and second so they have that money available to spend over the cap. Simply put if ATL loses JJ they are already 48mil w/o his contract so they can only spend about 5-6mil on a replacement because of cap holds and the assumed 56mil cap.

So in this case ATL can push for maybe Lee in return(not likely) or go for 1 of the Knicks young cheap F’s and EC’s expiring.

Yes the guy that could not be traded before is tradeable now because of his big expiring contract. ATL can go to a team looking to dump salary like GSW and Ellis’s 44mil contract and get there replacement.

Maybe I am being a homer but if I was ATL I would rather get Chandler and that 11mil expiring contract than get left with nothing. I also read that the teams can send up to 3mil in cash considerations in a trade help pay part of that wasted $ being used on EC.

  • bluemax

sorry to disapoint you kniksfan but ,no, we can’t keep lee’s birds rights and sign both JJ (12-14) and lebron (16.8). Lee has a 10.5 cap hold. so that would well over the allowable amount.

In fact that is the problem with that scenario, unless somehow we can get rid of EC’ s contract in the process.

we just can’t sign bothh JJ and LBJ and still get any PF. we have to get rid of EC first.

  • Jeff C

No way JJ gets a max offer from us. We’re definitely going to lowball him. What’s the point of rushing out there and offering him a max contract right away? If it’s true that we are going to offer him a contract immediately, it will obviously be a lower value than he is really looking for, because that’s the only time it makes sense to make a quick offer and take someone off the table.

like walsh always said you can be great at one number and terrible at another, and with his max being around 18 mil that would be a terrible number. I think that’s pretty clear. You can’t take what broussard says too seriously.

  • bluemax

Actually, I just realize that it is in ATL interest to S&T JJ even if they get nothing in return because they get a trade exception.

if they let JJ walk and they end up with a 48M payroll then they can spend only 8M assuming 56M cap.

but instead if they sign JJ first to 15M/per (let say) then hey can spend15M instead of 8M using the Trade exception.

  • RR

If they renounce Lee then they have the $ because the 10.5 cap hold goes down to a 457K roster hold.

  • bob go knicks

Wojo says”I think there is a very good chance that the KNICKS get shut-out (in free agency)

  • http://www.thiswebsiteissoawesome.com/ The Frankman

Peter Vescey just was on Mike’d Up and explained most to these “rumors” and “FA meetups” are heresy and if true is grounds for tampering. You can’t really talk about pre-planned meetings with some of these guys, especially in Amar’e Stoudemire’s case since he is still under contract.

So, now we must consider a max deal for Joe Johnson if we want Lebron?

“Ric Bucher of ESPN quoted a league source on Thursday when he said that LeBron James might be more interested in coming to the Knicks if they have Hawks’ shooting guard Joe Johnson.

“If it’s LeBron James they want,” Bucher said, “a league source says the Hawks’ shooting guard is a very good place to start.”

Wojo seems like a very hateful man. I dont remember ever reading a nice article about the Knicks and he hates Lebron from his last article it seemed like. lol

I REALLY hope you’re right about Broussard, Jeff, because he’s been a damn one-string banjo about this issue all along. And to me, it makes no sense. The Bulls have a notoriously cheap owner, a weak GM and an unproven coach. If LeBron is making LONG-TERM plans, those are HUGE issues.

So tell me: Why do you say you can’t take Broussard too seriously? I don’t know anything about him. What’s his track record?

  • RR

1 source says the Knicks will be shut out another says JJ will be the 1st to sign and he is signing with the Knicks. Bosh is signing with Miami and its a done deal.. Wait he is signing with Chi and joining LBJ & Rose. These so called sources have a lot of different info that they are sharing.

  • the oak

Ha I know. It’s a done deal that Bosh goes to Mia and Chi.

Everyone wants to be the first to report a “done deal”

Just think, there are still 3 days til July 1st.

  • the oak

Wojo didn’t say that. Agent did

  • the oak

The NBA would never terminate a deal involving Lebron to the Bulls or any other team because they thought it was premeditated. Never going to happen

  • BrooklynsFinest1

3 days and that’s just to be able to offcially talk to fa’s not get them to sign on the dotted line. There are about 6 legitimate teams that can sign Lebron so after he meets once or twice with each team then we will officially know that he is making his choice. But in the meantime Donnie has to make sure that the other possible peices are in place so that whoever our superstar leader is will have his team together and ready.

  • Knicks4life

This is a little depressing though. Guys are reportedly leaning everywhere but NY (except Joe Johnson).

After Chris Bosh was on MIke and Mike, I was fairly convinced he was seriously considering NY.

I really hope these rumors are just that and LBJ and Bosh still have NY high on their lists.

  • grahambo86

Your right, my bad. He still seems like a hateful guy.

  • JeffM729

If the plan is to lock up JJ on day one, it’s a solid one. There are really only two non-PF max free agents, JJ and LeBron. If we don’t get JJ and/or LeBron, we don’t two. You can’t sign Amare and Boozer.

So if JJ gets locked up, the Knicks have a better core and can compete for Bosh, Boozer, and Amare. LeBron may take weeks to decide and leave teams hanging. You might see the Bulls sign a David Lee and then leave cap space for LeBron. The plans maybe to strengthen your roster and leave room for LeBron.

You just can’t sit around on a July 1 and end up with nothing. Teams like the Wizards and Nets are going after a PF. If they sign Boozer and Lee, you will see a scramble.

  • PickNY

Your sorry a** want a clean slate because you dog this guy out for years and he gotten better. Who plays dee these days in the NBA in fear of flagrant foul? Oh that’s right Lee was the only one who didn’t play D! My bad. 20 10 in this league is not easy task, but most of you want to overpay someone with the same numbers who’s weak on D too! Niceeee goin.
