Lee Visits Minnesota…

Free-agent forward David Lee(notes) is visiting with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, and the Wolves won’t have much time to try to impress him.

Lee has already visited with the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, and once Chris Bosh(notes), Amar’e Stoudemire(notes) and Carlos Boozer(notes) commit, Lee figures to be the top available power forward on the market.

I’d have to believe that the Nets are still very much in play as well…

with all these crazy dumb contracts Lee defiantly gets 12 per

if Rudy Gay is worth 80+, so is David Lee.

Lee will get paid, make no mistake about it. he will be some team’s big consolation prize..

If I was the Knicks i would be trying real hard to do a sign & trade to Minnesota to get Rubio freed from exile. It will soon heat up after these main free agents make up theit MIND! Lee is gone no matter what, so you should get back something for him.

D-Lee worked his but off to get better each year…hope he finds a good team & the money that makes him happy..Good Luck DL..

    Agreed.

    12million more like 14.

These wacky teams have really screwed over the knicks and other teams with these absurd contracts. Giving Amir johnson, Darko, etc. those types of contracts are absurd. That being said Lee now must get close to 14 mil a year which is about 3 million more than he should get. And in my book since boozer is a bit better though older he will look at around 14 mil to 15 mil as well. The reason the Nets are not after Lee at the moment is because they probably have Boozer rated higher and still intend on getting bosh. I still contend that even with Amare this team still has a lot of work to do to make this team competitive next year. Amare is not a team savior. In fact he simply gives you a more athletic and slightly more productive version of David Lee. Amare is not a great defender. So for me the signing of Amare and the releasing of Lee does not put the Knicks over the top. They still will have issues at Center and we saw what happened when Lee played center. We still have issues a PG is TD good enough to run the pick and roll offense effectively enough to keep Amare satisfied. SG is a big concern as well. I still see Chandler being moved for either a Center or a point guard with Gallo not moving to PF anytime soon.

I think lee to the nets honestly is a match made in heaven he’ll make Lopez and Harris both better. They’ll have money to sign someone like Ray Allen and their in business to be real good again

  • js80204

Btw can someone explain how rudy gay is worth 16 million a year???? Lebron would 16.6 from the knicks if he were to sign with the knicks…. i cant understand NBA gm’s sometimes

  • JeffM729

You have to think that Lee and Boozer will sign after Amare and Bosh find homes. If LeBron or Wade choose Chicago, then the Bulls have just enough cap space to sign Lee or Boozer. If they sign Bosh, no need for Lee.

Miami also has that room for two max and a near max players. The Nets have room for one max and a near max as well.

So pencil in Boozer and Lee for homes in NJ, Chicago, or Miami. One other possibility is a S&T of Boozer to Orlando.

Until then they waits on Bosh, who waits on LBJ and Wade.

    I thought Lee wouldn’t play for Minnesota…

He’ll just go to whoever pays him the most money. I would not be surprised if Minnesota threw all their capspace at him.

That’s the crux of the NBA salary cap. each team has to spend 56 million. Bad teams spend it on marginal players, good teams spend it on starts.

The only real values are true max players and stars still on rookie contracts. This is the top 10 signed so far for 2010-11. Some studs and duds.

    1. Kobe Bryant LA Lakers $24,806,250
    2. Rashard Lewis Orlando $20,514,000
    3. Kevin Garnett Boston $18,800,000
    4. Tim Duncan San Antonio $18,700,000
    5. Michael Redd Milwaukee $18,300,000
    6. Pau Gasol LA Lakers $17,822,187
    7. Andrei Kirilenko Utah $17,822,187
    8. Yao Ming Houston $17,686,100
    9. Gilbert Arenas Washington $17,730,694
    10. Vince Carter Orlando $17,300,000

Compare them to guys like Durant at 6, Gallo at 3.3, and Lopez at 2.4.

Minnesota doesn’t have enough cap space to sign David Lee. He’s probably going there as part of a trade to move Al Jefferson, possibly in a three way or else the fish are biting.

  • PhilKnick

Would D Lee sign with NY, less $ as a role playing PF alongside Amare at Center, if he really is a Knick at heart? 8-10 mill as a support to Amare, espec if Amare gets hurt?

  • JaymanJD

Amare would be as bad as Lee at Center. Amare is not a center.
