HoopsWorld: Lebron Leaning Towards NY

by Tommy Dee on July 6th, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Via Hoopsworld:

Whenever there is a vacuum of information, rumors begin to surface. When it was reported that LeBron James would be waiting until the conclusion of his Akron basketball camp on Wednesday to make his decision, it gave the basketball world several days to churn out different scenarios and rumors and nobody seemed to be on the same page.

But in the last twenty-four hours, there have been lot of rumblings indicating that James could be leaning towards New York and reviving the Knicks with Amar’e Stoudemire.

Several sources indicated that James’ advisors Maverick Carter and Randy Mims could be travelling to New York on Wednesday and sources have hinted that James will be joining them for the trip. Sources also said that Carter and Mims have been picking the Knicks’ brains for details and information on their salary cap and free agent plans over the past few days.

Trying to confirm and again have been unsuccessful. But we’ve noted several times now that Maverick Carter will be in NY Wednesday. If the report is true, it would appear we could know why.

Stay tuned.

God I can’t take all this talk anymore

  • DS

Oh no, now the media is talking about ny…is that a good thing??

How can he pass this opportunity up?!!

    THE KING IS COMING!!!

  • http://twitter.com/MotorCityHero MotorCityHero

    How valid is HoopsWorld though?

  • bahnard_31

hat tip to bb_dot…nice find. this looks to be more speculation…but the whole donnie walsh thing is very intriguing…broussard, regardless of what happens should either be fired…or the ombudsman, etc should be…I wonder how ESPN comes out of this…how players treat their reporters…etc….just amazing how sloppy and sensationalistic the wwleader has become…beyond the normal drama they spew.

  • Jeff C

Hey, DS. It would be a bad thing if the main streem was talking up NY, but this is hoopsworld! Any other team, and ESPN would be all over it, but they won’t touch something with the Knicks in it.

I like the part about walsh not being a big risk taker.

Why is it that right after we met with lebron we went straight to amare over the phone, and offered him a max, informally. Is it because lebron secretly told us he would never sign with us? Doubt it. So using logic, it would seem our FO feels pretty confident right now.

  • thegreatgallo

ok, hypothetically, lets say lebron actually does come to ny. im not saying its probable, but if he did come. would we need to sign a center and/or point guard? would lbj (sf), amare (c), wc (sg), toney (pg), and gallo (pf) be a feasible lineup?

  • scarfacebaj19

A lot of info in that article makes a lot of sense! Donnie not being a risk taker, second talk with Lebron after getting a commitment from Amare, rumors about carter coming to NYC on Wed., also not in article- but lebron postponing announcement til after this Nike Camp is done- couldnt host that camp in Cleveland if he stated on Monday he is going to the Knicks!

  • thegreatgallo

concur. chris broussard = clown. he basically just generated tons of hype because he had a hunch that lebron would fit well with the bulls and in the meantime completely alienated the city that he lives in. He should be banned from MSG. period.

  • Jeff C

    YES

  • scarfacebaj19

    Starting Lineup:
    PG- Lebron- “Showtime Magic Johnson”
    SG- Walker – 43% 3pt shooter
    SF- Chandler
    PF- Gallo – 38% 3pt shooter
    C- Amare

  • LBJ.STAT.ROOSTER.

im feeling really confident. Donnie Walsh has done everything he said he would so far. In Donnie we trust. He’s created an ideal situation for LBJ to come be the King of New York….Even jay z knows MSG is the right move for Lebron….

  • JeffM729

I wonder if we will need to do a S&T with Cleveland, should LeBron become a Knick. Hard to believe he would leave $30 million on the table.

  • LebronSignAfterTheX

I don’t want Amare playing C, much better 4. I’d rather have LBJ convince Curry not be a waste of life, and tell him to play for his next contract, in the meanwhile all past sins will be forgotten. Or just take another vet for min off the scrap heap.

  • manghangson

PLEASE GOD GIVE ME THE ANSWER [billy madison voice]

  • gbaked

i love walker as much as the next guy

but he aint gonna keep shooting 3s at that %

  • LebronSignAfterTheX

CLE would never facilitate the LBJ move, you look much better to your fans if you make him do it on his own.

  • JeffM729

I would think that the Knicks need to find a real PG and Chandler may be the guy to go in trade.

  • scarfacebaj19

We arent going to have any money to sign a PG or C- only vet. mins.- Be lucky to get Earl Barron- he refused the Vet. Min already!

    Bench- PG/SG- Douglas/Rautins, SG/SF- Fields,C- Jerome Jordan, Curry-”bum”, Need a PF/Rebounder- maybe Kurt Thomas

  • gregdunks

Broussard grew up in Cleveland a Cavs fan.

  • scarfacebaj19

He played over a 1/3 of a season- plenty of time to show his consistency- he was also known to be the only one to keep up with Paul Pierce in shooting 3′s when he was with the celtics. He also lost close to 30lbs so far this off season!

  • brookdon

I don’t think it will be terrible media wise for ESPN. They could go two ways with this:

    1. Write a “Cinderlla” story on how the Knicks, who were expected to land noone, landed two max players and then cite all of the reasons we have already said on this blog.

    2. Totally diss the Knicks and LBJ and talk about how LBJ is only in it for the money. The country already has problems with New Yorkers and it will add fire to the hate NYC idea. They might even say we “bought” ourself a winning team. Either way they will still keep their audience.

I think the person who takes the biggest downfall is worldwide wes. If LBJ goes to a team other than where Wes wants, Wes loses lots of power.

  • scarfacebaj19

Keep dreaming if u think Amare and Gallo wont be our starting front line to start the season- our coach is Mike D’Antoni. He wants a fast and athletic team with 3 point shooters! Last year our front line was Lee and Gallo.
The advantage this year is that hopefully the rookie C-Jordan will prove his worth and be able to come in from day one and provide around 15 minutes at center allowing Amare to move to PF.

  • brookdon

PG: Toney Douglas (next year it will be Toney Parker)
    SG: Lebron James
    SF: Danilo Gallinari
    PF: Amare Stoudemire
    C: Earl Barron/Eddy Curry/Jerome Jordan

If this lineup happens I predict Wilson Chandler will be the 2011 6th man of the Year.

  • scarfacebaj19

realistic and possible- but dont know if they want to take on more money for the future- they like how chandler has an option for next year- probably planning on declining his option and using that money to go after another Max type player in 2011!

  • Bsems

your right..but right now ill will stays. until a marketable pg arises.. or cp3 at the deadline :)

  • scarfacebaj19

    chandlers 3mil with curry’s 11.3mil= 14 mil

  • Armand27

    This and Spike Lee

Come on folks he has been coming here for 2 years now.

All of this has been a charade.

  • PANAMANIANknicksFANsince91

    what about this lineup…

    pg – 6’8″ – lebron
    sg – 6’8″ – chandler
    sf – 6’10″ – gallo
    pf – 6’10″ – amare
    c – 7’1″ – jordan

that way amare can play the four, we can have showtime and also a bully everyone in the halfcourt game with the tallest starting lineup in the league…

    did I went too far?

  • brookdon

I don’t know about that…..Why don’t we just keep Chandler and sign Tony Parker next year or even sign Ridnour this year?

  • scarfacebaj19

we need to get Earl Barron first! I hope we do! but he refused the Vet. Min we offered him earlier in FA!

  • scarfacebaj19

Not bad- But I believe D’antoni wants to have 2 great 3pt shooters on the court at all times! To make that happen- take Chandler out and put Walker in at SG

  • JeffM729

I just don’t see D’Antoni playing a center along with 3 forwards. He didn’t play Darko or Curry last year and played Amare at center in Phoenix. We have went with Lee at center for two seasons, Amare replace him. This far more likely.

    PG-Trade coming for Chandler
    SG-Walker
    SF-LeBron
    PF-Gallo
    C-Amare

  • LebronSignAfterTheX

I like that lineup better, but I think that’s asking a lot out of a Rookie in Jordan… not sure LeBron would be enthused to have a rookie as his center. I’d give Curry a look, or get a vet min center and groom jordan

  • http://twitter.com/OneNastyNupe Nupe1911

Wojnarowski just reported Bosh not going to Cleveland but LeBron is staying. Really?

  • brookdon

If we sign LBJ and Amare, we have 1.3 mil left, we give that to the best center available.

  • Funk

    +10000000000000000000000!

  • JeffM729

Why wouldn’t they want to at least get a draft pick and trade exception to help them rebuild. Maybe we could get a guard as well, like Gibson, to play the point and shoot threes.

  • DR

I’m starting to think there’s something going on, when I heard about the Bosh S&T to Cleveland rumor I got worried, but why would that be coming out so late in the process? They’ve been talking for month’s now, I’m thinking LBJ’s people are leaking that to make it sound like he made every possible attempt to stay in Cleveland and at the end of the day he didn’t have a choice but to leave….or I’m just reading to much into it

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

how about signing iverson.he said he will play any capacity a team needs to win..perfect 6 man but can even start here…

here we go with iverson again…took that away

  • scarfacebaj19

oh really- we will have 1.3 mil left- well that could be enough to get Earl Barron!

  • Jeff C

IF we don’t get lebron, sign tyrus thomas and if you think TD can’t play PG, sign ridnour.

With TT at the 4, Amare will be fine at the 5. TT in the marion role, but bigger, stronger, faster… he’s never been given a chance to do what he’s good at. THey try to force him to be a tradition 4 but he isn.t

  • TG

I’d go for Marbury myself, but uh……

  • HaS

To be fair, the media is now claiming that “Worldwide” Wes was the one pushing Chicago hard from the start. Broussard may have been a victim of misinformation.

  • scarfacebaj19

Tommy Dee has stated repeatedly that Lebron will be playing the PG- we are not trading for a PG and giving up Chandler. Lebron is the dominant ball handler- needs someone who can defend well and shoot 3′s well- just what Toney Douglas does best

  • bahnard_31

It’s one thing that he was pushing…it’s another thing to hammer home that source…and before FA talking could begin. Besides…Broussard then changed his tune and was the one touting Miami, Miami, Miami. Fine…he grew up in Cleveland…but he wrote for the Times…and he was touting Chi and Miami…a nightmare…just a nightmare…Adande has been ridiculous…Bucher reported teams “may” be turned off by Bosh’s camera crews for doc…huh???lastly…I love how these guys write…my source “believes” not only is it an unnamed source but you’re now a friggin mindreader..just really bad stuff.

  • knx22

    desperation

  • gbaked

i hear ya. he is real good and I am very excited to see him.

but i doubt he will hit almost half his 3s attempted over a full season.

  • HaS

Knowint _’antoni either Gallo will play the 4 or Chandler will come off the bench. The “coach” doesn’t make lineup decisions based on defense.

I would like the team to keep Chandler though, most championship teams have a utility defender to protect their best player and can guard multiple positions. Ariza last year, Artest this year, Bruce Bowen, Tayshaun Prince etc. Ill Will could be that player to LeBron.

  • bahnard_31

Good point on #1…on #2…everyone has been talking about how these guys can’t leave 30-mil on the table…Adande even wrote how if it’s about “money and loyalty” then he’ll stay in Cleveland.. I see #1 happening…if we get LBJ or Wade. Broussard will be canned then…no way you keep a guy like that. He’s not as demonstrative as Stephen A…but this is ridiculous.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

he would be a better option than anything the knicks have samething with iverson at worse iverson averages 10pts 5 assist.

  • scarfacebaj19

we only having currys 11.3 coming off the books next year, but lebron and Amare will both be getting raises around 1.5mil each- Gallo and Chandler have salary increases just above 1mil-meaning we will only have about 6 mil in cap space next season- add Chandlers money too that, 3mil= 9mil; hopefully add some salary cap increases and maybe we will have around 10-11 mil to entice tony parker to take less than what he might get else where to be on a winning team.

  • JeffM729

    1. Cavs understand there are still looming threats to pry LeBron, but getting Bosh isn’t make or break on keeping LBJ. 9 minutes ago via web
    2. Bosh has long made it clear that he doesn’t want to play in Cleveland, and LeBron knew it was a longshot to sell him on it. 16 minutes ago via web
    3. Cavs officials are confident of two things now, multiple sources say: Chris Bosh won’t play for them next season, but LeBron James will. 18 minutes ago via web

  • LebronSignAfterTheX

bc you don’t want to participate in trading the franchise, no matter what it nets you.

Fans will always think you helped it happen. You’d rather it look like you did everything possible to prevent it, and paint LeBron as a bad guy

  • JeffM729

    Don’t forget Tracy McGrady…. Duh….

  • Showstopper232

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axN_yhr6EDI&feature=player_embedded

Jerome Jordan seems decent, and he’s jamaican so he should be pretty tough lol… we’ll see

  • http://twitter.com/OneNastyNupe Nupe1911

Damn homie we saw that video posted up here on draft night

  • TobyKnight

With this crazy market, Barron is bound to get 4 mil!!

  • Namifi

    There ya’ go! Agreed.

  • thebossandbenji76

Is there any more news on this….is it true?

  • AlexMSG

Probably at least as valid as any of these other sites.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

at best he might make the team an warm the seats..

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

yea the knicks got a hella bench next season..

    marbury
    iverson
    t-crak

  • Mal

Amare needs to be a PF, Jerome James should be the last line of defense of the rim with Amare and LBJ weak side help blockers.

Im going to watch Jordan at the Summer League, film showed he had a nice O game around the rim and passes around the basket like McGee and Blatche do to each other

  • Mucha

Tyrus Thomas is a scrub Jeff… He got enough PT in Chicago to prove it.

  • Mal

Or whatever we get in a S&T at center

  • Jack D

I would say a little more than FEASIBLE lol

  • Jack D

    Yeah exactly.

@ whoever thinks he’ll be our starting center, come on lol..
