The Key?

by Tommy Dee on July 6th, 2010 at 12:19 pm

To me, Chris Bosh has always been the key to this whole thing. Reports are coming out that the Cavs and Raptors are talking sign and trade.

But when has this not been the case? It hasn’t been the case because  it was reported earlier that Bosh to Miami was a “done deal.” In this game there is no such thing.

Ultimately, it comes down to this. If Bosh wants major money he has to accept a sign and trade. In order for him to go to Cleveland, there has to be a salary match, meaning the Cavs strip themselves of players on their roster. Are the Raptors really pumped about a Jamison/Mo Williams situation for example? Maybe if Isiah Thomas were running them (sorry Zeke)…but logically I can’t see that. Do the Raptors want Michael Beasley? Not from what I’m gathering.

What about the Nets? Interesting. They are a possibility. Can Bosh and Lebron end up in Newark? Again, that’s a big wild card still in play.

Chicago? Well, if the Heat strike out with a big can Wade stay in South Beach?

Again, with Amar’e out of the mix, the market on bigs now has a brighter spotlight. It’s Bosh’s move…as it’s always seemed to be.

Also, for a great article on the Amar’e/Bosh debate, head to CBSsportsline…

    Here is what is scary..

    Bosh for Moon,Parker,West,Hickson,Varajao.

S&T Shaq for Haywood (has been rumored)

    MLE for Mike Miller.

They could also add another player with the Low Level Exception if they have one.

Bosh/Haywood/Miller is pretty damn good off-season. But Bosh holds the keys to this. Does he want to play in Cleveland is the question.

People keep discounting Boozer as far as Miami being “shut out” of a big man. Boozer loves Miami and Wade is friends with him. He may not be Bosh or Amare…but if Bosh joins up with LeBron then Wade will pull Boozer and be decently happy in Miami…or Chicago.

The key is to get Wade and Bosh to team-up in Chicago…LeBron would realize that he could not compete against that duo without being next to someone dominant – leading him to NYK with Amar’e.

  • brookdon

That’s nothing compared to what Housten offers. Scola, Battier, and 2 1st rounders and he gets to play in his hometown at max. Chicago has Noah taj and a draft pick.

I don’t see why the Raptors do this sign and trade though. I’d rather lose Bosh for nothing than taking on big contracts like Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison. Maybe if I was Toronto I would take back one of those 2, plus Hickson, and expirings.

But it still doesn’t make sense. Without Bosh, Toronto isn’t making the playoffs. Why would they take on a player like Jamison? Hickson is not enough for me to take on a contract like that. And what else do the Cavs have to offer in terms of assets?

lol. I think every other team wishes Isiah was still a gm in the league. He rebuilt every other team in the league not named the Knicks. Have a bad contract to get rid of? Isiah will take it on, and give up draft picks to get it.

Raptors would never take overpaid junk for Bosh. This S&T is not happening unless The Rap think that Jamison is a difference maker. Anyone with half a brain would see that he is a good player, but not worth the future salary obligation. Lebron, Bosh, Wade…time to make up your minds. If Lebron wants to play with Bosh, then both sign in Miami and push Wade out. Can’t quite do it in Chicago, NJ, and not gonna happen in CLE. These guys, are not going to take less money either. I am sure that none of these guys want to get paid less than Amar’e.

I think Bosh is going to end up in Houston, which will make things very interesting for Lebron and Wade. Lebron does not have the guts to hitch a ride on Wade’s Legacy in MIA. CLE has yet to do anything to improve the Cavs team. To me, he should be choosing between NY and Chi, with NJ as the longshot. Just makes the most sense. If he wants to have his cake (Rings) and eat it too (Chance for Fame/Money), I think NY is the choice based on the Amare signing and ability to get quality fo Curry’s Contract.

This does not sound good to me. It could be LBJ and Bosh to the Nets. All this news and Tommy’s tweets do not sound promising.

  • brookdon

That can’t happen. There is a 0% chance Bosh would take a paycut Think bout it like this. Bosh would have to take a 3.3 mil per year paycut to go to the bulls. In a five year contract and adding that to what he could have gotten in a sign and trade, he is leaving 47 mil on the table. It is not happening.

  • MrDbo

Chicago can’t get to max yet and no one is dumb enough to take on Dengs contract…yet.

I am hoping that the Jazz keep Boozer. With Bosh insisting on the Sign and Trade, he will go wherever the raptors can get the best young talent (Houston Rockets, IMO).

Boozer and to some extent Lee may still be key pieces in this big three puzzle.

  • brookdon

I’d bosh doesn’t want to play in NYC why would he go to the Nets who are movng here soon.

  • Dave the Rave

Must get Bosh. He’s the only center out there and he showed he was rejuvenated from his injuries in the 2nd half of last season. Get Bosh, Donnie! Am sick and tired of this team not having a center. No center, no 2nd round of playoffs.

  • dogmanx23

Yeah I’ve always thought after Houston did that trade with us we pretty much delivered Bosh to Houston.

I think they’d offer Jeffries before Battier and he’d want a buy out if he want traded.

  • dogmanx23

???? We have Amare already and Bosh doesn’t want to play center and he isn’t a center.

  • donnie walsh

    Dave,

    you sir are confused.

  • Dave the Rave

Amare’e is a center like Lee is a center and like Kurt Thomas is a center — NOT!

Amare’s is a matador on D. He’s going to stop Howard, Perkins, Yao, Bynum, Bogut, Horford, Shaq? No. He’s a joke at center

A center plays center, not scoring forward. A center clogs and intimidates and blocks shots and plays body defense. Bosh can do that a bit. And he is mobile and will fit in with D’A.

  • Dave the Rave

You’re not Donnie Walsh and you have not been watching basketball long enough to know what a center is and why u need one to go to the Finals. If Amar’e is a center why did the Suns not win a championship with him? He can’t even stop a Dampier or PF Tim Duncan. And why did the Suns get Shaq to play center then try Fry and then a rookie? Study NBA basketball. Garnett and Howard will eat Amar’e alive. Knick centers have been Ewing, Camby, Cartwright, Webster and Reed. If you don’t know the difference, talk to Donnie Wash. He’s trying to get a center. If he can’t get Bosh he will go after Biedrins and Camby. Still confused?

  • cms9675

When will you guys learn that these are just rumors and nothing more. Rumors that are floated around by these reporters and analysts that are trying make a name for themselves. No one knows anything. Remember the knicks were supposed to be shut out. That didn’t happen now its back to making stuff up and that should be evident by all this talk of NJ having a shot at the big free agents is Bull. Any free agent looking to get into a winning situation isn’t going to the nets. Chicago has no body besides Rose. Don’t give me that noah crap. You can find a 100 guys who can give you 10 and 10 with solid defense. Last time I checked 10 and 10 wasn’t something to brag about. Remind me how the clippers are in this thing again? Chris Bosh is greedy and toronto is hoping that somebody is stupid enough to make a deal and deplete their team for the big baby. I can’t believe this guy, he goes out there and says its all about winning and then goes back and campaigns for a sixth year. The only two people I can’t fault is Lebron and Wade, its hard to choose between your home and some other place. I hope one of them chooses the knicks but if they don’t I won’t lose any sleep. The knicks will come out as a winner this offseason for the fact that they stuck to the plan these past two years and then picked up someone who changes the face of our team. Chicago can’t sign two max players without moving deng and nbodys gonna take on that contract. Wade won’t be going alone and cleveland will not trade james so chicago rumors need to stop. Miami doesn’t have anybody on that roster anymore because they wanted compete with the knicks cap space, but donnie cleared space the right way and riley didn’t. Yeah they can sign two max players now but who will come off the bench for them? Its funny how the knicks end up being the most stable of situations in all of this, when teams like cle, miami, chi and nj are all in panic mode. Teams we were supposed to lose out to on all fronts because they were supposed to present a better winning situation. Please. “New York is back”

  • ScottD

Assuming that LeBron doesn’t end up in NYC, if, and that is a big if, Eddy Curry somehow shows up in shape this season, and we add even a Luke Ridenour on a shorter deal to what we already have, the Knicks could be fairly competitive the season, and leave plenty of cap room open for other possible moves.

    Ridenour/Douglas/Rautins
    Chandler/Walker/Fields/Rautins
    Gallinari/Chandler/Walker/Fields
    Amare/Chandler/Gallinari
    Curry-motivated?/Barron-signed?/Jordan

  • ScottD

Camby, Camby just resigned with Portland.
Do you really believe that he would be traded?

  • donnie walsh

You’re confused because Chris Bosh isn’t a center, and has said he does not want to be a center. Also, Donnie is looking for a center because they’ve already decided Amare will play PF. Nothing, i mean nothing, you have said is relevant or makes any sense because of these facts.

    So dave, you remain confused.

  • Dave the Rave

He has and can play center just fine, far better than Lee or Amar’e, and since there are no centers out there except risky ones and turtles like Yao and Shaq, Bosh is the man. Duncan and Garnett are not true centers and they do just fine because in this day and age. Bosh can match them at center and anchor the middle. He’s reportedly 250# now.

  • donnie walsh

No. He wont play center. He has said that. Your whole argument is founded on something that has never been true, and never will be true. He was a PF in Toronto and insists on being a PF on whatever team he plays for.
