Salfino: NY Must Happen

It’s hard to overstate the significance of this. Assume he will be surrounded by local boys and girls and that there’s a very high likelihood that they are Knicks fans given the club’s location in Knicks territory. The optics of James’ announcing that he’s going to Miami and announce another destination while surrounded by local kids who may reasonably cry in grief is what people in the business call a public-relations nightmare. Consider also that an enterprising reporter is sure to find a heartbroken child to be the poster boy or girl for what will be portrayed as heartless flirtation with total innocents.

If it’s not New York, why make the announcement here when he dragged everyone to Akron for the pitches? He could have stayed there and maintained an illusion of neutrality at least as far as the pitches were believed to have been received in a neutral manner.

Word I’m getting doesn’t look good from a Knicks fans perspective. I’ve heard “done deal” a few times. But that can be tricky. Apparently the Knicks have been told by Lebron’s people that they will be calling him 5 minutes before the show goes live…

  • tasan

    lebron = mj

    …and not jordan

  • tsertain

Why would anything ever work out in our favor?

  • callamari

i would love for the ny kids to cry and go on tv saying something about the knicks if he goes to miami.. now that would be some interesting tv

  • newromecity

im keeping hope alive that all the miami buzz is a smoke screen.

  • KnickFan4Life

When the more rational side of me stops to think about this I agree with what was said in the article. Lebron has too much respect for NYC to go into our backyard literally and make us look bad. But then I get caught up in the ESPN hype machine…

  • tsertain

i cant believe other teams will help out the heat by helping them get rid of beasley.

of course i can believe it, but it’s so ******* sick that nobody would ever help us if we were in the same position.

  • thegreatgallo

    hahaha

  • callamari

and one of those guys in the trade would be jeffries… that makes it worse

  • Been2Long

5 minutes, that’s a lot of respect to give the teams. This entire thing is absurd, even if he does come, which he most likely won’t it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Lets start rebuilding, lets trade David Lee and get some more pieces to the puzzle. Become more of an attractive place for big name free agents. I trust Donnie to do the right thing, he got us out of 10 years of bad contracts and trades. Skies the limits right now. Miami will have 3 players and street trash, in a year or two we will have solid team that will be built to beat them.

  • Jasonv

“Consider also that an enterprising reporter is sure to find a heartbroken child to be the poster boy or girl for what will be portrayed as heartless flirtation with total innocents,”

I hope someone is savvy enough to do this if Lebron decides to play us all for fools.

  • tasan

This needs to be decided in a celebrity deathmatch

    ~ walsh vs riley

and yes walsh can use his wheelchair

  • itzyung1

Longest 7 Hours Of My Life.

    #LJ2NYK

  • tsertain

and even worse, nobody likes beasley. he’s viewed as a locker room cancer. yet somehow, that rat fink Riley will get it handed to him.

  • grahambo86

I can’t see them surrounding himself with kids like that, just for that reason. Then again, who knows. The pros and cons have been overstated so many times in everyone’s case.

My wife who is from Cleveland said he needs to leave Cleveland and head to NY. She then told me that when he was in high school and the cameras started rolling on him, he became closed up and arrogant and all of a sudden, people he used to hangout with and all that he stopped talking to. She said his ego just grew and grew and Cleveland can’t hold it in.

Take it for what it’s worth. This just seems like it is playing into his ego.

  • belikmike23

So hopefully this whole talk about going to Miami is just to cancel out the talk about his reasoning for doing this so close to Knicks territory. Since people assumed he was going to NY because of doing this in CT, maybe his people decided to put out rumors of MIA to draw people’s thoughts away from NY being obvious because of proximity to the “Decision” location. Thus keeping the suspense alive.

  • Mucha

I would love to see a NY kid slap him in the face if he says “I’m going to Miami”

  • grahambo86

Another thing to consider, it was reported that the James Team requested that Jim Gray do his interview. Jim Gray works for Westwood One which is based outta NYC. Just saying.

  • Been2Long

In true New York fashion i would love to see NY just say f-it and move on. Trade D Lee and start rebuilding. It would never happen, and you couldn’t take the chance, but tell me that you wouldn’t enjoy the bold move. It would be like NY telling Bron to take his TV show in our backyard and stuff it. Feels like something i could get behind.

  • Mucha

It is more than rumors IF the Heat trade away Michael Beasley IMO.

  • JeffM729

I don’t think the LeBron camp has any idea that Greenwich is even near NY or the Knicks camp, nor do they care.

  • brookdon

Actually I would love that too, make a whole bunch of Knicks fans children cry when LBJ burns them.. That would probably hit him in the heart a little bit.

  • GoNYGoNY2010

What is the significance of the Boys and Girls Club in Connecticut exactly?

    Anyone know?

  • callamari

can i get some thoughts on this trade that would go down if no lbj. lee for tariuf and randolph?? not to familiar with these guys, are we doing something good?

  • grahambo86

After all this, I find it hard to believe they are that careless. Takes 2 mins to Google it.

  • nyk94

these kids aren’t knicks fans, the knicks have been horrible their entire lives. they are lebron fans, so they prob could care less.

  • nachomas4

    this is too much
i am going to sleep at 8:55pm and when i wake up this would all be a dream and not a nightmare
    Nightmare;
Lebron goes to Miami, says NY was never really an option and the nets were really close
    Dream;
lebron stays in Cleveland and says he was heartbroken between Cleveland and NY
    Wet Dream…lol
Lebron says the opportunities are just too much to pass up and i want to bring NY the 1st title in almost 40yrs, Miami is wade’s home and I am second to no one

  • grahambo86

Umm..its about 15 miles from the Knicks practice facility and is practically in NYC.

  • JeffM729

The money raised by the ESPN show tonight will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the LeBron James Ego Fund.

  • Jack D

It would be too late because at that point, it would be clear that he HAS no heart.

  • Jack D

    ME TOO.

  • adornoj1

It seems the 4 team deal involving Beasley is close to being consimated. And plans for a celebration and Parade on Biscayne have begun. I hate you MIAMI HEAT, and I LOATHE you Patrick Riley.

  • brookdon

Some call Randolph the next Kevin Garnett. Nuff said.

  • ebaybus

I blame a lot of this on good ol Tommy Dee. Most of the pro NY Knicks rumors out there were all started by him. I doubt he had any real good sources.

Everyday he would report that Lebron’s agent was in NY or coming to NY, he even said Lebron was spotted in NY yesterday, are you kidding me!!! I think the his sources may have been the voices in his head. Notice Tommy is getting more and more quiet.

Tommy you got your 15 minutes but now it’s over. Thanks for getting all our hopes up.

I’m out and getting ready for another 10 years of irrelevance. Hopefully in two years when we get a new team in Brooklyn they will be better.

  • JeffM729

Maybe ESPN picked the site in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club. ESPN is in Bristol and needed to set up a broadcast. Might not be a James related choice.

  • boogie down

That would be an exhibition in carelessness and, moreover, ignorance. To be THE guy in the NBA and not know that one of the teams with which you’ve been flirting has its practice facility a mere 15 min away would be downright ridiculous. If that were the case and he does choose to go elsewhere, he’d somehow manage to bungle this already-out-of-hand ordeal even further.

  • Eduardo15

    MSG stock falling.

Could this Miami talk be some sort of deploy to buy stocks in the cheap, only to see it plummeting after tonight’s announcement?

  • boogie down

    sorry, 15 miles*

  • bartnyk

If he goes to CT to announce hes going anywhere other than the KNicks he should be stoned out of NY.

  • Eduardo15

    Some as in “Mucha”?

  • grahambo86

I think everything involved is James related.

  • bodian

you, my friend, are a dumb a$$. you really think tommy got us all excited just for kicks. there’s been so much mis-info out there and this MIA thing only became a REAL reality when the cap #’s were released. take a hike dude!

  • Eduardo15

    Good point.

  • bartnyk

Gotta get in when its low, buy low sell high

  • ebaybus

    F you

  • pmetsfan3

Carmelo Anthony’s wedding is in Greenwich this weekend and he is attending. Also Allan Houston is a big contributer to the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club and lives in Greenwich.

  • Jack D

good, so go jump on the bandwaggon

  • bigblue973

the sun just came out as i was walking past msg we will be ok guys it hurts but its not the end of the world, enjoy you counterfit ring lebron, amarie, almost 19 mill in cap space some good young pieces we still have a bright future i know its hard to contiune to be patience, but we will continue to get better if we lose out we gave it our best shot

  • Eduardo15

Agreed. And Stoned in when he visits the Garden.

  • tomg

Yesterday it was tweeted by dudely and talk about by other NBA players Lebron was coming to the knicks and late last night took a complete turnaround. I now believe lebron’s camp leak on purpose that he was going to Miami to throw off the media.

  • ScottD

    Ebaybus,

    You’re a clown!!!

  • itzyung1

Basically. I Dont Know About Stones though, How About We Throw Rings At Him LOL

  • JWright

Its also probably one of, if not the only Boys and Girls Club locations that can hold something this big. The place is massive and is beautiful as well.

  • scarfacebaj19

D’Antoni was on with Mac and Tierney a little while ago and he didnt seem confident Lebron was coming. He actually stated that he would be flying to las vegas for summer league preparations and wont even be around NYC or a TV for the Lebron Decision.

  • JeffM729

I’ve been stoned out in NY, being a child of the 60′s. ;-)

  • Eduardo15

    HAHAHA.. sweet.

  • Been2Long

As a life long New Yorker, i think it’s about time he gave us his Yankee hat back. He didn’t suffer through the 80′s like most of us and only knows a team with titles. He can get off our bandwagon now.

I’m ready to move on, this guys an ego maniac.

  • JWright

    DO IT FOR THE KIDS!

  • scarfacebaj19

This is all Manipulation by Lebron and his people! Where is he going is still unknown. Knicks could of been leaked Tuesday Night to get New Yorkers real interested and then Yesterday Miami became the leaked team.

  • CircleLimit4

    hahahaha +1

  • bartnyk

If he doesn’t come I hope we don’t forget and we HATE him until he retires.

  • bigblue973

its a thin line between love and hate, f u then lebron, go grab ya ankles in front of d wade like bosh did last night! Amare isnt the best maybe but he wanted to come here, hes excited and i want players who want to bang out with ny!!!!! bring me melo god please thats all we have left lol

  • JWright

Couldn’t agree more with this comment. If he decides to not play in NY after all of this, someone on the Yankees or in the Front Office needs to say enough is enough and for him to take off the NY Yankees hat.

Spitting in our face if he doesn’t come.

  • NYK Orange and Blue

This is all too much, I’m going out tonight with some friends. I just hope when I get home my homepage doesn’t say “Kings of Miami” on it.

  • Knicks4life

He is in NY already this weekend. Holding the press conference in CT, regardless of location makes tons of sense to me.

I would be shocked if he picks Miami tonight. Honestly, I would be shocked. Why not have him, D Wade and Bosh just make the annoucement together?

What worries me, seriously worries me though is all of this S & T rumors involving Lee and Randolph. That trade does not go down if the Knicks think LBJ is coming.

I’m still holding my hat on the Spike Lee comments though. Sad when my hope rests on the same guy who made Girl 6 (although School Dayz remains one of my favorite movies).

  • nyk94

all i know is if he spurns the knicks, he better be booed unmercifully everything he steps foot in the garden

  • bartnyk

    Nirvana

  • Starksfor3

So LeBron has booked a bunch of hotel rooms for his posse in Miami. What a gut punch this is. Yesterday at this time it looked like New York had inched ahead in this race. Over a decade of losing and misery, and our big reward appears to be…Ronnie Turiaf?

And what a low-class move by LBJ to do it to us in our own back yard. I really hated the Heat during those legendary playoff battles of the ’90s, but now I’ll despise them even more.

  • Eduardo15

    alanhahn

Hearing Miami is close to completing a three-team deal to move Michael Beasley and get a trade exception back to open up more cap space.

    FCK

  • bartnyk

He shouldn’t even be allowed back in NY in the offseason.

  • nyk94

    couldn’t agree more!

  • tomg

If Lebron screws NY he shouldn’t be allowed in yankee stadium and he should be treated like crap by yankee fans.

  • bartnyk

If MIA can do a three team deal for Beasley why can’t we do the same for Randolph and get him and a trade exception.

  • KnicksKnack
  • bartnyk

    4 team

  • Knicks4life

They should throw condoms at him with little pictures of Delonte on them.

  • Eduardo15

The guy’s a Cowboys and Yankees fan… enough said.

Is he also a Penguins fan? Does he root for Brazil in the World Cup?

I do agree about him giving the Yanks hat back, though.

  • Knicks4life

Lol. That does not sound good . . .

  • KnicksKnack
  • knx22

if he opts for mia, i don’t think there’ll be any other player booed louder in the garden than him.

The only satisfaction i have in him joining mia is seeing the Knicks add players that want to be here play TEAM ball, eventually knocking them out of the playoffs.

  • Knicks4life

Let him keep the Yankees hat.

I’m a Mets fan by the way.

  • bigblue973

well i’ll be drinking tonight lol the life of a knicks fan

  • grahambo86

Not only will he be considered disloyal to Cleveland but also a fake and whimp by NY. Even the Russian Billionaire says if he goes to Miami, his brand will be tainted and diluted. Noway he becomes a global icon. Kobe would fly away with the title of NBA’s #1 and Durant would become the new face of the younger generation.

  • Knicks4life

Whatever team makes that trade should be banned from the league.

Watch it be the Knicks too.

  • knx22

    http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/67984/20100708/paul_leaves_octagon_for_lrmr/

    interesting?

Could this be the first step in getting Paul in NYC? hm

  • grahambo86

Carmelo, Amare, and Gallo along with Parker next season, thank you very much.

  • Bassplayer27

It’s all part of the drama build up! Miami just doesn’t make any sense.

It’s gonna be NY (man I hope).

  • Knicks4life

This is silly though. LBJ is the ulitimate team player. May be the best player at his size at moving the ball since Magic.

  • tomg

Francessa just got a call from a reliable source telling francessa that lebron is definitely going to Miami, Francessa said this is the first concrete source that francessa now believes it’s true, Lebron is going to Miami.

  • grahambo86

I doubt it. That has been in the works for a long time. I heard about that months ago as a possibility. They are good friends and one helping out the other by joining his group.

  • Knicks4life

Why would that be a step to having Paul in NY?

  • rjo262

i didn’t see it on theknicksblog at all though maybe i missed it, but Lebron is doing it in Greenwich because he is in connecticut for carmelo’s wedding according to chris brussard.

  • Eduardo15

    Good call.

  • Knicks4life

Yeah Francessa is a reliable dude.

    F u C K

  • knx22

assuming LBJ is signing here and not mia.

  • GoNYGoNY2010

So basically, if he doesn’t choose the Knicks, he is smacking Allan Houston in the face? And will probably get chased out of the Northeast with torches and pitch forks…

  • Eduardo15

    Thats what Ive been saying

  • bodian

    ugh, you got me!

  • SilentJay

Logic and reason sort of go out the window with this guy.
I want him as much as every fan, but it’s really hard to see him say no to what Miami’s doing.

  • dreamer3kx

Im done with the NBA, this is the ugliest ish Ive ever seen. in sports.

  • NYK5150

Michael Jordan never would’ve joined up on some superteam, heck, he didn’t even come to NY when he was a free agent, and was offered the world. So, for real, if Lebron goes to Miami, he’s wack. He has already tarnished his legacy with the free agent ZOO they have created with the Media. He’s going to have one HUGE Fan base hating him. All Cavs, Knicks, maybe even Bulls fans will Boo him, LOL. If he comes to NY, then kudos, you have balls my friend. If you’re heading to Miami, you took the easy way out. Screw you, and enjoy South Beach.

It’s 9pm-10pm. There won’t be little kids there, it’s when they go to sleep. Look, I’m with you guys, but to quote the Wire, “You want it to be one way, but it’s the other”

  • TobyKnight

Does Greenwhich even have any poor kids who belong to the Boys and Girls Club?

  • ricksthepick

    1) This whole thing has been too well orchestrated to believe something that Salvino proposes would be allowed to happen. There’s no info that Gray’s interview would take place in front of children, let alone anyone other than media who wouldn’t react out of courtesy.

    2) If a Western Conference team (Rockets) is involved in the Beasley deal I can’t fault them. Yes, they’d have a hand in building a super-team but they only have to worry about meeting that team in the Finals (or 1 or 2 regular season games). I’m sure a team like the Rockets are more worried about the Lakers, Spurs, Thunder 30 times a year than the Heat. Now, as for Charlotte, the rumored other partner, MJ has no brains if he allows that.

  • HaS

“all i know is if he spurns the knicks, he better be booed unmercifully everything he steps foot in the garden”

I thought it was pathetic they chanted MVP for him the last couple years anyway.

  • SilentJay

    The Next Garnett?
Damn. I must be blind, because I think he’s a bunch of muscle, weight and talent away from being that.
    But hey, one can dream.

  • snadler

Who else agrees, that when LBJ announces he’s going to the Heat, the nba will be out of your life!!

  • tomg

it’s now all over the miami newspaper, lebron signing with the heat, don’t think it is a smoke screen.

  • SilentJay

It’d be a really douchy move to say he’s going to Miami in CT.

They also have the right to swap 1st round picks with the Knicks next year AND take it outright the year after. Smart move by them.

First step to get paul to Miami…

  • cms9675

If ya can’t join ‘em, beat ‘em. It will be fine! Remember what happened to Riley’s teams the last time they messed with New York. We have Amare guys. AMARE!!! And 19+ mill in cap space we are looking good my friends. I personally like turiaf and randolph, turiaf is one hell of a hustle player and can guard anyone on the block. If we get them we will still have enough to go after mike miller and a point guard. So don’t cry dry your eyes, here comes lebron with those two homo guys!

  • KnickKam

People just don’t seem to get that this is all being done to sidetrack the issue. Everyone will be so relieved that LBJ is not going to Miami and ruining the NBA that when he chooses NY (which is usually hated) they will be relieved and happy for him.

  • HaS

  • ImNewYorkWhereEva

This is a call to all true, die hard; I bleed orange and blue, Knick fans. No matter what happens tonight, we need to stop cheering other players of other teams when they come to our house. We need to stop allowing fans of other teams from getting into our building and if they do we need to drown them out! I’m sick of watching people in our building cheering for anybody in the other uniform. This is an epidemic in our town; it happens when Dallas comes into Giants stadium and when Boston comes into Yankee stadium. We’re supposed to be the smartest and greatest fans in the world and we allow this and help it to happen by selling our tickets to non fans of our team. So don’t be sad if LBJ doesn’t come, let’s get back to being who we are New Yorkers. Let’s support the one man who took on the challenge … STAT City, in our quest to dethrone the true King — Kobe Bryant.

We fought tooth and nail to beat MJ and the bulls. Do we love our team any less because they couldn’t climb that mountain? Hell no! We love those old Knick teams. We’ll love this new team too. Trust me. Knick fan for life, f… Jay-Z, f… Rat Riles, write it down, take a picture, I don’t give a f… The Knicks will be champions in this Wade/LBJ/Bosh era. I guarantee it!

  • KnicksKnack

    if LeBron goes to Miami…
    LeBron = Scottie Pippen
    [not Michael Jordan]

  • defensekills

there was someone saying that there were people waiting there yest at like 1030pm. what majority of those are knick fans?
