Heart of a Lion

For all you fans yearning for that Charles Oakley-type…Turiaf is that type of throw-back.

  • rmccarthy10

    1.) Never another Charles Oakley

    However, if he can bring it every night like Oak, doesnt back down to anyone (like when Oak tried to fight Shaq), plays every possesion like it his last, kills for loose balls, and hits the glass like a crack head… then we will have something to be proud about again

    Ronny was playing better than ever last yr before he got injured. He’s tough, solid, a great expressive leader, and surprisingly alert and adroit with the ball in the paint. If all of the new 3 guys stay healthy, that’s at least twice as much talent as no-D-Lee and this trade will be a ripoff. The Warriors are a gutted team with an awful owner and crazy coach.

  • Knicks4life

    If you think Turiaf is Charles Oakley than you . . .

    (1) obviously never saw Oakley play;

    (2) never saw Turiaf play;

    (3) never actually watched a real live basketball game;

    (4) or you work for TKB.

    Seriously though Turiaf average like 4 pts and had 4 rebounds per game. Why oh why would you compare him to one of the Knicks all-time greats?

  • Knicks4life

    When was the last time the Knicks actually “won” a trade. Don’t be so quick to call out GS man, we always, and I mean always get fleeced.

    No need to jump down the guy’s throat. The exact words were “Oakley-type”, not Oakley clone. The point is that Turiaf is a guy who plays with the same kind of mentality, or close, to that of Oakley. Oakley was one of my favorite players growing up, so I’m quick to be skeptical of someone being exactly like him. But the theme, as I’ve said in other thread, is bringing a new toughness to this team. Guys who bring it, won’t back down on D, and will make us all proud. Turiaf appears to be this kind of guy. Naturally this is all talk, and we will see when the season plays out, but I think we have a lot to be excited for.

    Who knows, maybe one day soon people will be afraid to come in the lane again against us. We’re far from being there, but this is certainly a start.

    “plays every possesion like it his last, kills for loose balls, and hits the glass like a crack head”

    In other words the anti-_avi_ Lee.

    If (big if) he can stay healthy he’s a great addition to a team, in the locker room, on the bench and on the floor. Always loved this kid, I wish he was still on the Lakers (my secondary team).

  • rmccarthy10

    Is there a schedule yet? Or better yet…When do season schedules typically come out?

    also… Lebron is a coward :)

  • HawthorneWingo43

    I like Turiaf a lot. Yes, I know he’s not “Charles Oakley,” but he brings that type of tough play every night. He and Felton will both help bring that gritty type of team play and D to the team.

    Because of the athleticism of AR and the shooting skill of Bukie, Turiaf has gotten a little lost in the mix. I believe he’s an important part to this team. He’ll have everybody’s back and we haven’t had that type of player here in a while.

  • HaS

    His averages are so low because (unlike Oakley) he hasn’t been very durable and he played for a _’antoni-type “coach” who values offense over defense.

    If he can stay healthy and get consistent minutes (preferably at the 4, he’s not a center, but he’ll battle for you unlike _avi_) he would put up a lot closer to a double double off the bench (in my mind he’s more of a Milsap type).

  • BiggieSmalls

    he’ll likely spend most of next year on the bench if he is on the roster.

  • harris

    He hasn’t done badly for a guy who had open heart surgery five years ago. Good hard nosed player to have on the bench.

  • jg2112

    It’s all about attitude, personality. We’ve been missing this. Enough of the “Superstars Wanna Be” that used filled our roster and only worried about their numbers. If we are going to stink, I rather watch the team I root for stink trying their hardest and taking no s**t from nobody. Not getting just pushed around.

    I was hoping for better, but it is what it is.

    One thing that gets my attention looking at Turiaf numbers is his assist. I thought I saw like 2.1 in just 18-20 minutes of play. For a big man that really says something.

  • bukojack

    if no trades are made then turiaf, if healthy, will start because amare wants the 4. randolph will bring his energy in as the sixth man.

  • Bloop33

    Hey at least he won’t be a traitor to us Knick fans during free agent negotiations next summer…

    As great as Oak was in the scope of that Knicks team, there were nights when I wanted ex-communicate him from our roster with some of the holes he had in his game. But there will always only be one Oak man.

  • Dave the Rave

    That’s the spirit. “We” always get fleeced? Forever? ugghhhh…. I live nr SF and have watched these 3 guys and they are good, really good, if healthy. Turiaf will play a lot, he is not gonna be buried on the bench if healthy.

  • Dave the Rave

    what he said….

    lighten up, knicks4life, or is it knicks4death? : )

  • bluemax

    loved him too. great motor, tough and very good shot blocker. we need this badly.

    until last year, was pretty durable despite open hear surgery.

    don’t know what kind of injury he had last year but he is only 27.

  • Dave the Rave

    I’m over LBJ. The guy’s karma is poisoned.

    The Knix now have 3 guys who can be terrors on D in the paint and Azubuike can light it up and will make us forget about N8.

    Can’t wait to see Lee get torched when he returns.

    If Felton is better than Duhon this team will be far better and not lame on D no mo.

  • knick-dynasty

    Shut your mouth already, enough don’t move your brittle thin girly fingers across that keyboard anymore….you wine an complain like a woman….go to a martha stewart blog you old wench!…knicks will do great….we have a better team cap room we just need better fans!

  • Aj

    I’m glad he’s here. I’ve always liked him from his Gonzaga days.
