Video of Mosgov

Watch Here

I am not the one to ask about foreign players.  I have never heard of this kid, let alone seen him play.  I just hope that he is worth the money he will receive from the Knicks.  Seeing Johan Petro get 3 years and $10 million after not having done much in the league, perhaps this is the going rate.  But for that price, I wonder if giving it to Anthony Morrow could have been a smarter move.  While I killed giving Travis Outlaw $35 million, I love that potential Morrow signing for the Nets.  Excellent shooter and scorer.

anybody quicker than curry is fine by me ..lol

  • Hustle

If it doesn’t work out, Donnie can always get him to give Mikhail Prokhorov an atomic wedgie

  • Dylan

The Knicks must be planning on making a blockbuster trade. We have FOURTEEN players on our roster right now.

  • NYK FAN IN OZ

I too would have loved morrow but after the lee sign and trade do you not think morrow would have been 1 too many warriors lol.

  • barnaby8787

Considering curry’s riding the bench, they’ll weed one moreout…they’re not planning anything man…especially since we have nothing to offer teams…plus, don’t be surprised if this guy is in the d-league this year

  • barnaby8787

I would have rather given this money to someone like amundson

  • Melo2NYplz

Morrow got more than than Mozgov
and I think a legitimate center is more of a necessity than a sg.

  • http://www.twitter.com_AnthonyRojas AnthonyRojas

not necessarily .. 2nd round picks don’t have guaranteed contracts but doesn’t hurt to have a full roster and not kill the cap

  • Armand27

    I hope he powebombs LeBron
    thats why we signed him
    1st game
    BAM
Power bomb into the scorers table

  • Dylan

I guess this probably means that the rookies won’t be dressing right away then.

    So… we got our Drago.

  • Armand27

Then looks for bosh but bosh is already halfway up the stands Screaming like a girl

  • mustarda

I have no idea if this guy can play, but the contract is intimidating at least.

  • joon8

According to the video He’s tall & can dunk near the rim. Sweet….zzzzzz

  • Bloop33

I think he’d fit nicely into our “Blueprint for Greatness”

  • knicksfix

1 Raymond Felton / Toney Douglas / Andy Rautins
2 Wilson Chandler / Bill Walker / Kelenna Azubuike*
3 Danilo Galinari / Landry Fields
4 Amare Stoudimire / Anthony Randolph / Ronny Turiaf
5 Timofey Mozgov / Eddy Curry / Jerome Jordan

    * = surgery recently

  • mustarda

He can touch the rim? Yeeaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dylan

This team is loaded with young prospects. I can’t wait for the season to start! There is going to be a ton of competition just to make the roster, let alone make the rotation!

  • joon8

According to Jay-Z the “Blueprint For Greatness” is to ride Lebron’s nuts since High School, buy a 1 percent ownership to a crappy team, pretend to make a pitch for him when he becomes a free agent then when he rejects you buy courtside seats to his new team so you can ride his nuts some more LOL!!

  • ESPN… Everything Said is Patently Nonsensical

This guy kinda looks like a potential beast. I’ll tell you what, if Isaiah was still coach he would def send a 12th man goon into to game to injure the Queen.

Also, is anyone else watching the Mavs/ Rockets Summer league game. Jordan Hill looks beyond terrible…

  • Dylan

Yup. It doesn’t look like he has improved at all since last season.

  • Scott

What team in the NBA likes International players more than us? The Surs. mmmmmmmm?

  • Scott

    oops Spurs!!

  • joon8

  • joon8

Rather have our version of this scenario than the Cavs version. They really got gaped

  • mustarda

I just decided I like this deal.

  • tsertain

Like the handle. Have a decent one myself…

ESPN = Everything Sox Patriots Network

    ABC = All Boston Channel

    NBA = National Boston Association

  • Dylan

DraftExpress No doubt here RT @thebrandino: Tell Knicks fans the Mozgov signing is a much more worthwhile risk then the Nets spending the same $ on Petro

  • ESPN… Everything Said is Patently Nonsensical

Ha thanks man. Its ashame ESPN has gone down the tube so badly recently. I don’t even watch sportscenter anymore. I stick to the local shows on SNY or MSG. Stuart Scott is just a joke of an anchor the way he tries to infuse “street-talk” into his clealry gentrified speech.

  • JeffM729

Donnie Walsh is very close to signing an unknown from the Bayou’s named Bobby Boucher.

    Powerbomb. Compliments of Ca-ca-ca-Captain Insano.

  • bluemax

so. 2 videos and nothing but layup and dunks.

WTFK, MD is never playing this guy. Forget it. 9.3 Mill to ride the bench.

  • JeffM729

    Guys let’s get real here;

    D”Antoni only plays 7-8 players.

    Amare
    Gallo
    Chandler
    Randolph
    Felton
    Douglas
    Walker
    Azuibuke
    Turiaf

Guys like Curry, Rautins, Fields, Jordan, and Musgov aren’t going play.

  • bluemax

BTW according to draft express he weights 0 lbs.

    must the invisble 7ft russian.

  • SilentJay

In terms of size and strength, sure he’s a C. The guy can play D, which is much appreciated, but from what I read and the clips the guy is very raw offensively.
I don’t think he can be an instant contributor, although I hope I’m wrong, we kind of need it.
After all, he’s gonna get 3 mil per right?
It would suck to pay him to ride the pine.

  • ben5151

Every highlight video is only him on offense. He is supposedly limited on offense but can apparenly run the floor and plays amazing D (a block per 9 minutes…) I would love to find a video that highlights this D…

  • PickNY

Fields & Rautins will get some run! Mark my word jeffyboy!

  • SilentJay

Exactly, a 7-8 man tight rotation and a 14 man roster?
    Your list is accurate.
I hope DW’s getting different pieces for a trade.

  • MadBomber

You got hear this too funny

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZr2qOXQJ4w

  • J_Starks94

Can’t say anything until I actually see the guy play, but Idk 3 years 9 million is a little much no? Regardless I am stoked to see these new Knicks. I love the Felton signing especially for only 2 years. He fits the system perfectly. I believe Anthoyn Randolph will be an absolute stud! I love what I see from him. Has anyone seen the video of him him dunking on Yao or blocking Kobe and Tyrus Thomas, the kid’s an animal. Amar’e will fit perfectly, I’m not worried about injuries, he has gone 2 seasons with no problems. As far as Melo, it isn’t going to happen IMO. I mean maybe next year if he doesn’t sign the extension, but I don’t see us trading for him because we just don’t have the pieces and I wouldn’t give up both Galo and Randolph.

  • jarvis

Unless someone gets injured. That is also a factor. We’ll see if it works out next season.

  • Tommy2cat

At 12 seconds, the coach tells him, “Igor, use your fangs!”.

He’s actually very, very persistent in the paint – he’s a finisher.

    Here’s another representative video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5pNo_L3xH8&feature=related

The first half appears devoted to the pick & roll, the second half moreso to his defense. He positions himself well.

  • Armand27

    HALF FULL SPORTS BAR HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • ben5151

As always, excellent analysis from LeBetard…Sports journalism continues to look good this week…

  • Armand27

With whole Lefag stuff, I’m not even gunna think Melo.

I will enjoy this team and trust in Walsh

  • Tommy2cat

Here’s a video that reveals some of his activity on defense. He moves his feet and positions himself well on defense. He’s instinctive in that sense.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5pNo_L3xH8&feature=related

  • ben5151
  • harris

    What a moron.

  • JeffM729

Yeah, that’s how he got serious hops and the ability to run the floor.

  • JeffM729

I’ll be watching the summer league games. It’s more likely that Fields plays in the D League and Rautins takes his game to Europe. Maybe I’m wrong, but Fields is one of too many forwards and Felton’s signing just ate all the guard minutes.

You just know that the curse of the Knicks will bless Lance Stephenson. The guy looked solid in the Orlando games.

  • SilentJay

I woudn’t get attached to this full roster. First DW says he’s done with the FA and this guy gets signed and then he talks about possible S&T.
With a 14 man roster (almost entirely made of new faces), I can’t see all of them getting solid minutes, it tells me that there’s a bigger picture here. I don’t know what it is yet.
I hope though, that this guy’s given a fair chance to show what he’s made of, and if he’s worth those 3 mil per.

  • HaS

    He’s quicker than Gallinari!

  • SilentJay

Yeah, I was able to catch him play. He looked good. This backcourt still needs assistance, but I’m more than welcome to be proven wrong by both Walker and Azubuike

  • JeffM729

Even if Walker and Azubuike can’t cut it, it’s hard to see Rautins filling the need.

Felton and Douglas should be good for 55-60 minutes per game, so 20-25 left ain’t much.

  • BluEandOrange

Darren Collison was an absolute steal in that draft.

  • Po

He looks like the guy from Happy Gilmore with the nail stuck in his head, minus the moustache.

  • Dave the Rave

3 years???? Why? What competition has be ever played against? Is he the next Swen Nater, Rik Smits, Andres Biedrins or Freddy Weiss? 3 backup center scrubs + 1 useless Eddy Curry.

  • Aj

is this guy going to play in the summer league?

  • joetheknick

A reliable source says Carmelo Anthony will be on the team by opening day. Denver has 10 players on its roster without Carmelo and that includes Coby Karl and Brian Butch. How many and who on our roster are going to Denver? Your thoughts

  • Brit Knick

I hope Gallo or Randolph (I have a good feeling about that kid) are not part of this so called Melo trade.
If your reliable source is right though, which ever way you look at at it, some good young talent is gonna have to leave.

  • pedro

Tony Douglas, Will Chandler, Randolph, picks..
Either way, we just don’t have enough to trade for Melo. No way the Nuggets trade him. They can probably get better from someone else, or keep him for a season and thn sign n trade him, getting a trade exception and maybe of some of the players i mentioned early.

  • Brit Knick

Throw enough at the Nuggets and they will eventually bite. It just scares me thinking about how much we are willing to throw.
I’m starting to like the young roster we are building, but I agree with the previous poster who said that the roster is pretty stacked right now, which leaves me to believe Donnie is building his chips to go all in on a big deal. Now, whether that deal works out or not is another thing.

  • feramorz

I like the fact that we now have a true PG and, hopefully, a true C. Those are the cornerstones of a good team.

We don’t need Mosgov to score much. The key is defense and rebounding, to take pressure off Amar’e and let him do his thing.

  • Hydr0

please guys stop with the “reliable sources”…haven’t we learned out lesson already LOL

Let’s face it, most of these guys are clueless…and I trade Randolph, Gallo and Wison Chandler for Carmelo in a second btw..assuming he agrees to extend with us of course

  • vin

    I’m loving this off-season.

I know nothing about this guy but what I read on DraftExpress (quote from them below), but I like what I read.

He and Jordan are all potential and maybe neither see a minute in the NBA this season – or maybe just a few minutes, but I think at least one of them makes it as a decent back-up, if not better in a year or two. Being real, you can’t ask for more than that from the 2nd round and from an undrafted European.

Did we overpay? On a strict value basis, maybe. But it’s unlikely we get him over here without putting some $ on the table as he’s probably a commodity over there.

But, man, if they got this right … !!!

“Defensively, Mozgov is a major presence, as he’s extremely difficult to post up on the block and has all the size, length and athleticism needed to swallow up opposing centers whole, and then grab the ensuing rebound for good measure. He blocks one shot for every 9 minutes he’s on the floor, and grabs a rebound every 3 minutes, which obviously makes him one of the more productive players you’ll find at his position in Europe. He brings very good intensity to this end of the floor, and has the added bonus of being agile enough to step out and hedge screens, showing very nice agility in the process. Mozgov still has a ways to go in terms of improving his fundamentals and all-around court awareness—he still makes too many rookie mistakes to be trusted by most top-level coaches. He’s also fairly foul prone and has a tendency to bite on pump-fakes, being a bit naïve as you might expect from a player with little experience.”

  • joetheknick

Reliable source (Brandon Tierney) could be called “common sense”. Melo is not jumping at an extension. Kenyon Martin is not recovering from this bum knees. Without Martin, Denver has no power forwards or centers except for Nene. If we take Carmelo and Kenyon for Eddy Curry and some favorable contracts (Chandler, Gallo, Randolph, Azabuike, Douglas) it kind of makes sense. Of course, Melo has to want to come back to New York.

  • itzyung1

In the end they turned out to be right though.

Im thinking Wilson, Eddy, Randolph, TD For Melo.

  • Bloop33

And when somebody gets injured??? umm yea.

Cmon dude you know everyone gets their time to shine during the course of the year in the NBA…or any sport really. With our team as it stands, we can never have enough big bodied offense rebounders.

  • http://twitter.com/shoelacenyc Shoelacenyc

Nice footwork for the big fella, nice finisher as well.

  • Eduardo15

OMG just imagine the jokes upside:

I must break you! (LBJ comes to the Garden)

    From Russia with Love

    Red Storm Rising

And so on… that by itself is worth the 3 mil..lol

Now all kidding aside, he sure looks like a nice prospect and every time you can find a 7’1 Center with some upside you gotta go for it. Maybe he’ll be a nice surprise.

BTW I’m liking (not loving) Ny’s FA so far. An all star, a nice Pg suited to play uptempo basketball, a huge talent in Randolph, and now Sabonis 2.0 (I know he’s from Lituania not Russia).

  • Eduardo15

    So am I!

  • DR

If we take martins contract and melo we’d have to send back curry plus another 23 million in contracts since we’re at the cap number and contracts would have to match. We don’t have the contracts to make that work

  • Eduardo15

Jordan Hill still holds the title for being the only player in history to have a highlight video that after seeing it, left me completely bummed out.

  • Eduardo15

I subscribe to their podcast. I’m not from MIA, don’t like it there, but his show is funny sht. Not the part about the Knicks having another decade of mediocrity, though. We’ll show them.

  • Eduardo15

I hated Jordan Hill from second one. Even the dude’s looks, his hair made me hate him. Glad we got rid of him, not glad (at all) we wasted a lottery pick.

  • Pavvy

hehee yeah a lot of jokes will be said especially when playin the Nyets!!! Prokorov is probably eating himself up rite now for not finding him before we did!!

credit to us for keeping him secret for 1 week to avoid other teams swoopin him up just like they said in NYPOST!!!

  • knickman2

    http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=RUS&PlayerID=69764

7.5 pts per game 4.8 boards per game in Russia, doesn’t sound like an instant contributer. I’m not worried, we’ll just trade him to the T’Wolves.

  • flossy

This guy is just Andris Biedrins for 1/3 the price.

Speaking of which… don’t the Nugguts have their eye on Biedrins?

    http://bayarea.sbnation.com/2010/7/1/1547365/denver-nuggets-warriors-andris-biedrins

Chandler, Douglas, Mozgov, Curry, 2012 first rounder for Melo?

  • fredweis

lol. i watched this and thought “this guy is even slower than Gallinari”.

  • TobyKnight

My first thoughts upon hearing about this trade was a) are we trading away Turiaf in a packaged deal and getting his replacement ready, b) did we sign him for some other team that doesn’t have cap space, but is going to trade us somebody or a pick, and c) was he signed to beat the crap out of Bosh and LBJ when they come to town.

Towards the last point, I’ve never in my life wished a player to get injured, but the dark part of me would gain some satisfaction from 2 of the 3 ubermen coming down with a seasoning ending ankle injury and the remaining superstar having to go it alone with a team of vet mins.
Every team should play as rough as possible with this trio, not to injure them, but to make them pay for their hubris.

  • TobyKnight

    LMAO

  • fredweis

Footwork and body type remind me of Rik Smits. Another Walsh diamond in the rough. I hope he’s got more of the Euro-Sabonis style game. Depends how high his bball IQ is.

Ironic to sign a Russian prospect with Prokohov next store. Got to be a blow to his giant ego.

  • TobyKnight

    Trade Chandler
Play Randolph as the 3/4 and 5 depending on the matchups.

It’s all about matchups and the Knicks can create some very challenging ones for other teams.

  • Dylan

We don’t have a 2012 first rounder. It went to Houston in the T-Mac deal. The next first round pick we can trade is our one in 2014.

  • ricksthepick

Mozgov screaming, “Get back here RuPaul! You’re next!”

  • KnickFan4Life

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the highlight reel. I was expecting to see a slow lumbering center and this guy actually looks like he is a pretty decent athlete for 7’0.

  • Armand27

“No, I didn’t talk to him,” Mozgov’s agent, Bouna Ndiaye, said when asked if Prokhorov had tried to land Mozgov for the Nets. “I really focused on the Knicks. And I did not focus on the Nets because the Nets would take longer to rebuild. I liked Mike D’Antoni’s system better than the Nets.”

    BURN!

  • http://www.nomoreonionbags.com trenttucker

Wow, he doesn’t look terrible at all. He’s surprisingly coordinated and loves to finish at the rim — not everyone does.

Basically, he is our 2010 1st round draft pick — same basic salary. I guess I don’t understand how he doesn’t have to get drafted, but whatevuh.

I’d like to see him get some minutes, but if D’Antoni never played Darko, is he going to play this guy? Sigh.
