TKB.tv: Melo and the CBA

  • Melo2NYplz

damn Tommys back from vaca already
    that was quick

  • ds2488

BTW, anyone else beginning to worry about Gallo? Chandler’s at SL working out with his new teammates, looking really ripped like he worked out and is ready for the season.

Gallo’s been missing all summer in Italy, no one has really heard from him, Dantoni seemed a little prickly about what Gallo was doing this summer. Gallo needs to be working out and getting to know his new teammates. This is inexcusable to me, with all these new teammates. Gallo better come to bring it next year.

At least he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, but as a Knicks fan of the past 10 years I wouldn’t be that surprised if he showed up with a beer belly and out of shape and not ready to play. I really hope Gallo’s ready.

  • PA Knick Fan

Are the Knicks going to resign Earl Barron? He did a lot of good things at the end of last year and he wouldn’t cost much to keep. Why not resign him?

  • ds2488

I agree. Originally it seemed they really wanted to sign him. They made him an offer and he turned it down to try and get more money.

Now that they have signed Mozgov, acquired Turiaf, and drafted Jordan Im not sure there’s much of a need for Barron anymore. If he’s willing to sign for cheap like at the minimum that would be nice. If not, Im guessing he won’t be back.

  • mel12

How many players do you want the knicks
to play at the C position..
    jerome jordan
    turiaf
    the russ guy 7’1
    some times Amare/Randolph
if you want you coulg say Eddie C
and you still want Earl Barron on the roster
you must be smoking get it right…

  • brookdon

I don’t think the CBA has much effect on Melo’s decision seeing that LBJ Wade and Bosh already took paycuts. Depends on how much he wants to play here. If he doesn’t accept the extension by the trade deadline, he is going to either us or the Nets IMO.

  • Melo2NYplz

Enough with EarL Barron .. PLEASE lol

what is it that u love so much about him?
theres a reason hes been in the D League for the majority of the past 3 seasons

  • PA Knick Fan

That’s disapointing. I liked his work ethic. I though he could be one of those guys that has a chip on his shoulder and is out to prove to people he can play.

  • ds2488

I think he did a good job last season for us. He played defense and rebounded very well. All teams need players like that.

He’s already more proven in the NBA than Mozgov and Jordan.

  • PA Knick Fan

That’s disapointing. I liked his work ethic. I though he could be one of those guys that has a chip on his shoulder and is out to prove to people he can play.

  • http://twitter.com/MotorCityHero MotorCityHero

Gallo’s working out at his camp. He posted it on his twitter.

  • Hydr0

Don’t forget about the tax cut in Miami, we can’t offer that to Melo.

  • illmatix

Off topic: timberwolves signed riddinor…another pg, this is really starting to to get beyond funny at this point…they gotta be making a deal before the season starts…how many pg do they have now?

  • Russ

The tax cut is not that relevant. Anyone who follows the rules can easily, and legally, evade state income taxes, if they have the means. Someone making several million/year has the means.

  • brookdon

Ridnour, Flynn, Sessions, rights to Rubio.

  • BobbyFromBK

Enough of this crap, Tommy. Now you’re gonna start speculating on Melo for the next year like you did LBJ. Let it go and let’s deal with the team we have. Hell with the next saviour.

  • Hydr0

there is no state tax is florida…yes, you can do things to write off some of your state taxes, but it’s not the same thing as not having to pay them at all. Melo is not coming here for a discoun. If he can make more money in Denver by signing now, he will do it. Do we really have to go through all this again?

  • Hydr0

Maybe the sessions signing was a mistake?

  • itzyung1

I Like How Yall Claim Melo Is A Pipe dream (When He Wants To Play Here) and chastise Tommy for reporting what he is hearing.

  • Tommy Dees Bodyguard

time to come down from that ledge. gallo will be fine. meshing with your teammates is what training camp is for. not summer league.

  • k-hodge

Hahn said they weren’t able to get anything done with Barron so it doesn’t seem likely he’ll sign. We’ve got enough centers though. We really need a SG

  • PickNY

    BobbyFBK,

This is a different situation being that MELO let it be known he wants to come to NY, since LBJ didn’t. I believe he knows that his stock will rise for willing to play here at home, and it helps that his wife is from NY too! Just because your lil heart is broken BK, don’t start that negative hope for other Knick fans. MELO is coming! IF not there will be one who is willing to come and steal the show.

Also, don’t get it twisted my friend. We can still be excited about the new Knick squad this year. It will have to be MELO handling his business by letting his peoples know that he is NOT going to extend, so that will prompt them to start looking for trades. Now, if I’m NY, I will not mortgage off Randolph/Turiaf nor Gallo! TD/Chandler can be traded. The Russian is a keeper! Sorry Jerome, Gotta Go Gotta Go:>(

OR just wait until MELO contract expires. I’m definitely sure he will not want to sign with another team if he’s traded not to NY! It’s all good in the making!

  • PickNY

Come on dude! Can the man have a life besides basketball. Get a life and stop tripping!

  • HaS

Gallo is probably drinking wine, eating pasta and frequenting the red light district.

I agree, he should be doing something. Not in Summer League, not playing for Italy and not working out at the Knick training facility. It is definitely mildly disappointing, but hopefully he’s keeping in shape on his own.

  • PickNY

Believe me MELO will get paid! I hope DW & Co pay MELO his WORTH, since he was willing to wait to come to NY whether CBA make changes or not!

  • steiker9

Am I the only who feels more and more like one of the guys who should be left off the squad is Toney Douglas, he’s looked horrible and he stank it up shooting again today, if we get a guy like Rudy Fernandez then TD needs to be cut or traded or maybe play some d-league. I just don’t see what TD brings besides decent man to man defense. At the moment I would rather have Patrick Ewing JR or Earl Barron than him on the squad.

  • gianthinker

Anyone else having a problem with this video? It gets to 1:31 and gets stuck.

  • HaS

How many forwards do we have?

  • HaS

“I Like How Yall Claim Melo Is A Pipe dream (When He Wants To Play Here)”

Hey man do you have a link?

  • JeffM729

Just saw this about Rudy Fernandez…..

No, just nothing doing bc POR wants Gallo. RT @JimboBleu: @alanhahn i guess the Rudy Fernandez news to the knicks is just plan false!!!! about 5 hours ago via UberTwitter

    alanhahn
    Alan Hahn

  • fauci933

I’d rather have a large group of versatile forwards then four point guards.

    Amare: 4/5
    Randolph: 3/4/5
    Turiaf: 4/5
    Gallo: 3/4 (one day hopefully)
    Chandler: 2/3
    Mozgov: 5
    Buike: 2/3

I wouldn’t mind acquiring a true shooting guard, but I’d choose length and versatility over having four PG’s

  • HaS

    LOL

    That wasn’t the question.

You left out Walker and Fields.

  • HaS

“This is a different situation being that MELO let it be known he wants to come to NY”

Hey man I keep reading this, do you have a link?

  • Ftingue

Tommy Dee I’m in SF right now and I just wanna say that I don’t believe the Warriors are a small market team. They have fans that are just as passionate as we are in NY, they’re just a little more accepting of loosing.

  • ds2488

lol. If the Knicks gave up Gallo for Fernandez, DW should be fired on the spot. Heck, if he gives up Chandler for Fernandez, he should be fired on the spot.

  • CircleLimit4

I haven’t seen anything specific but Melo did retweet this picture back on July 6th.

    http://tweetphoto.com/31182423

  • ds2488

I’d definitely rather have Felton at 8 million than Sessions at 4 million. So in that sense Im happy we didn’t sign Sessions.

Also, at least all our forwards are versatile enough to play 2-3 positions. The T-Wolves literally have 4 guys playing the same 1 position. We have a bunch of guys who can play 2 or more positions, which should be helpful.

  • ds2488

lol. Chill out man. You sound like the one who needs to get a life.

I’m just questioning why a 3rd year player who hasn’t proven much is off doing his own thing when he has a bunch of new teammates to adjust to. Imo he should be here with our traning staff and our players. Not to even mention this is his 1st healthy offseason and he should be monitored to make sure he stays as healthy as possible.

It may all be a moot point if he comes back in great shape and ready to go. But if he doesn’t, then that hurts us obviously.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

here we go with this CARMELA ISH,dude spent 7 years on his life in nyc 1-7,i think he would luv to play for the wiz he would be closer to where he got more memories, since he spent more time of his life in b-more,even if CARMELA comes here they still won’t win a ring dude has a low b-ball i.q,the SUPER KOOL AID DRINKER ARE ON TO THE NEXT SAVIOR they are now on the nuts of AL twin=carmela, come guys an gals what happens yall was just on lbj nuts like it was honey roasted, now yall upset, alot of yall are not b-ball people an luv commenting u have u clue about so u just yap like these southern rappers.I’M OUT stay squares yall

  • CircleLimit4

Durant via twitter (and retweeted by Melo)

KDthunderup: Now everybody wanna play for the heat and the Lakers? Let’s go back to being competitive and going at these peoples!

    Amen, brother!

  • itzyung1

Also Everyone Keeps Saying Melo wats to play here Amar’e, Amar’e's Agent After Being On That Boat with Melo, His Wife Said HE Wants To Pay Here, Then ESPN have their “Sources” that say Melo wants to be here. I already know what you are going to say Carmelo didn’t say it but all those people are enough for me.
CP3 Just Flat Out Said He Wants To Be Here Though…

  • itzyung1

Yes Leave And Please Stay Wherever you are going.

  • CircleLimit4

Punctuation and spacing is your friend.

  • HaS

Oh and technically they don’t have 4 point guards on the team.

  • knicks613

first off, toney d didn’t have a good game today, but he was a +10 and the team won;i’m ok with that.
we know he is not a true pg, but he is a valuable combo; mda said he and raymond may get time together on the floor. they can hound and defend.
toney d. can score and create; better as a 2.

second, i think rautins deserves a chance at pg to show if his handle can work. he does dish with speed and precision and if he gets it back his shot will be more effective-we saw a glimpse of that late in the game today. not clear if he will get spanked defensively………but we know we need another pg to spell felton.

third, what barron? the knicks have 11 players signed and have noted likely that the 3 draft pickshave spots. they are likely to keep the 15th spot open for possibilities; why i think marcus landry ain’t gettin a lot of run at this time.

fourth, the knicks are in great position to land melo (i know we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but it is nervewracking to only be able to think about the optimism that is flowing all over the place). tell me what’s wrong with this. we’re in january/feb, the knicks are doing ok, and the nuggets are only ok, thanks in part to buckets (thx). we have cap flex, and the nuggets seeing they may get zip for melo, trade to the nyk for ec’s xpiring and 2 (hope hope hope) assets that have emerged during the year, and we can then extend melo’s deal before a new cap is in place. is that a dream?

p.s. would’ve liked mike b to ask mda if ec is persona non grata; love the youth movement and amar’e the ring leader, plus that a.randolph mix!!!

  • JeffM729

It’s a little known fact but Amare has roots in Newburgh, NY. No doubt he came back here, just like Melo will return to his roots. STAT and I went to the same elementary school. Some of this post is true, the elementary school part, and the rest isn’t. LOL!!!!

    http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100707/SPORTS/7070372/-1/rss02

  • bartnyk

Thats only 3PGs its not as crazy as everyone is making it seem, crazy was trading Luke Babbit IMO.

  • itzyung1

Also I Dont Know Melo But I Do Know He Is A Baller! And I Know Plenty Of Ballers Love Winning And His Best Memories Are Most Likely Him Winning At Syracuse!

  • alexthegreat

the knicks will be a good team this year whit felton and td in the back court we have a big front line that will be hard to defend if we can pull of a trade for melo then we can be scary in the east whit melo amare and felton we can give the heat a run for there money like spike lee said we will siut up and go at them like we did against the bulls in the 90′

  • KnickFan4Life

It was good to see Jerome Jordan play much better today. He looked a lot more comfortable out there and was having an impact on both sides.

  • dreamer3kx

Yea I like him, he’s definitely a project but you can see the potential, reminds me of a raw Bynum, I think he will be good in a couple of years, needs to gain some muscle.

  • Melo2NYplz

Jerome Jordan had a double double today

    16 points and 10 fouls

  • Mucha

The Timberwolves have 3 point guards who can’t play any other position and Ricky Rubio – who’s supposed to be the future franchise player – is a pure point guard as well.

The Knicks forwards are versatile, they can play multiple positions and they all have a different skillset.

Andy Rautins and Landry Fields? Are you kidding me?

  • itzyung1

You can see he is starting to react more than thinking. In a couple years he will be solid.
IMO The best all around Center in the league is Andrew Bynum By The Way…Dwight Howard Is Close Second But Once Dwight develops at least two post moves the spot is his.

  • JeffM729

Those 10 fouls are a record never to be broken!!!

  • ds2488

Ehh. that guy’s a foul machine. If he can’t stay in the game in summer league, I doubt he will be able to in the NBA.

But he did look much more comfortable on offense. On defense he was getting pushed around too much. He needs to put on muscle.

  • Mucha

Broussard said Melo desperately wants to play in NYC.

I’m not saying that I trust Broussard because I don’t. But he said it.

  • dreamer3kx

Jeez I didnt know he had ten fouls, lol.

  • jg2112

I understand your worries, and you have your point.

I do think that it’s fair for him to get some rest and relax a little bit since he spended a rough year and a half with the back surgery thing and playing 81 games last season (not many players saw actions in at least 80 games).

    We’ll see come training camp.

  • JeffM729

Denver would not take Eddy Curry in a trade. They would much rather get a trade exception to allow them room to sign another player. That is what Phoenix did with Amare, Toronto did with Bosh, and Cleveland did with LeBron.

It would be insanity if a playoff bound team traded their best player before the season ended. Denver can get just as much for Melo after the season and hang on to hope for resigning until the last minute.

  • jg2112

    +1

  • jg2112

You got to respect that… I’m becoming a huge KD fan.

  • Ripsevenbx

i agree..& a lot of knicks fans feel tha same..

  • CircleLimit4

From 44th overall pick on a team without a starting center, I’ll take it.

  • jg2112

We can all agree he is a project.

  • HaS

    Exactly.

Just because we spent the last 2 seasons with one point guard and are heading into a 3rd in the same situation doesn’t mean our team knows more than everyone else.

Being a Knick fan has taught me one thing, don’t throw stones. We’ve lived in a glasshouse for far too long.

  • Joe-V

    Regarding the video:

the nba enhanced its profile to the common fan and the players assoc. did take a hit by LeFruad taking less money.

I think contraction should happen their is approx 5 teams to many and atleast 3 should go.

  • dino of syracuse

Sure I’d like to see Melo on the squad…but at the moment, I want to stay patient and give the new players a chance. It’s not so much about “drinking the Kool-Aid”, but it’s not really fair to pass judgement just yet. What are we, like 4 games into Summer League? :p

It’s just great that moves can actually be made. Flexibility’s a wonderful thing! El BJ, Melo, CP3, or whoever…it’s great to have “superstars”, but there’s always new talent coming out…

  • Mucha

So we can’t judge David Kahn because the Knicks suck?

    Great.

  • ds2488

I think someone mentioned this earlier, but David Thorpe really likes Landry Fields. This is his write-up:

Landry Fields, G, New York Knicks
When he first steps onto the court and when he walks off of it at game’s end, the perceptions of Fields changes dramatically. He looks like a deer (compared to most NBA players in his position) but plays like a tiger. Smooth with the ball, aggressively attacking angles, a fluid shot — he has a perfect game for the Knicks’ offense. If he’s one of the two worst offensive players on the floor, then that offense will be extremely potent. Every time I saw him play I said to myself, “Great draft pick.”

Well, the commenters on TKB can be wrong a lot of the time lol. I sure was…He’s making us all look dumb now.

  • PickNY

No Sir. I remember during the start of fre agency, Melo was quoted saying something like he couldn’t understand why anybody wouldn’t want to come to NY and that he would have wish it was his time. Believe me many already knows how Melo feel about playing in NY. That’s why I believe CP3 started this because he wanted to be apart of assembling something special in NY! Melo probably will request for s trade to NY to be his only STOP! I believe other teams wouldn’t want to take a chance of Melo not signing with them. So Denver would have to listen to an offer that they would agree on. I just hope NY don’t give up promising players for that championship run.

No matter what, Melo just wanted NY to wait on him because unlike his boy LBJ, he WON’T turn NY down! Plus, Amare is going to play with a chip on his shoulders because LBJ pick Wade over HIM! It’s on! Melo has that NY swagger Baby! Mark my words, he’s COMIN!

  • itzyung1

Everyone See the video where Chris Webber Was personally offended when Kahn put him and darko in the same sentence..LOL Funny Stuff

  • HaS

The Knicks have had their share of head scratchers in my lifetime.

    Unfortunately.

  • jg1170

“If he can make more money in Denver by signing now, he will do it. Do we really have to go through all this again?”

Then Why hasn’t he singed that 3 year 65 mil extension?

  • PickNY

    ds2488,

When people like you start questioning what a player does on his free time is his damn business. It’s like we you get off work, I’m sure you are not spending your off duty time trying to please others outside of your family circle. These players travel and leave their families behind and you expect the family not wanting to spend quality time in the off season with the player. You are the one off your ROCKER KNUCKLEHEAD! Get a real life and stop being SELFISH! Remember this is just sports and entertainment! Enjoy life and respect others, especially if you don’t have a clue on what they really are doing.

  • itzyung1

This is summer league so Im holding back but he really does look like a great pick.
Ill wait until Preseason to go crazy lol

  • PickNY

    Much man,

Remember these are rookies, not vets. Haven’t you seen rookie players become stars after starting off slow. Confidence goes a long way in sports my friend. It’s almost like getting busy, if you know what I mean. Practice makes perfect, if one keep at it:>)

  • PickNY

I believe TD will be alright as a backup for now. I think he will do fine playing with experience players. I can understand his frustration playing sometimes with a second unit or players that shouldn’t be in there period

  • PickNY

What in the world are you talking about stupid! How do like me now! Just because he wants to come to NY the State he was born, your dumbASS think he doesn’t have a claim because he only spent a number of years here in NY is your justification. That’s BS! I gotta go pray and ask God forgiveness for wasting cussing your dumbass out! I hope you forgive me because you certainly touch a nerve talking out your a**! And you call yourself a fan. Wow!

  • jaknicksfan

the tax cut is nothing compared to all the advertising money he will make in Nyc!

  • Hydr0

Possibly he is seeking another year on the contract or other options. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is using NY as a negotiating tool, we all know that’s been done before. Not to mention that he may want to go to the Nets anyway…His roots are in Brooklyn, right?

I’m just saying…can’t we give this a rest?…at least for a little while?…especially after what just happened with Lebron? We were never in it with Lebron and now the media is doing the same thing with Carmelo and Chris Paul.

whatever…let’s go to war with the guys that we have and see what happens…I think we have a pretty exciting team now, let’s get behind them!

  • Hydr0

geez….i feel like i heard all these arguements before with Lebron. Carmelo is not taking a discount to play for the Knicks guys. It’s a long shot to get him…let’s root for the guys that are here now.

  • jaknicksfan

we have some very good young players plus amare, i love felton and think on this team hes gonna shine, its time to get excited about the possibilities for this team, i am really looking forward th the season starting, wish training camp was tomorrow, Thanks Donnie!

  • Hustle

am I the only one who read that as “we will slut up and go at them”?

  • Hydr0

lol…but you have to admit…the point guard thing with this guy is pretty weird..especially since he brought in a coach that runs the trianlge.

  • Bloop33

LOL How is the Russian a “keeper” we don’t even know if he can ball yet. Cmon lets bring the naivety level down a touch please.

  • Bloop33

    You’re a Knick fan HaS?

I had no idea man, welcome to the brotherhood.

  • Bloop33

    You’re a ham sandwich Gawd.

  • gianthinker

DaGawD_KnowLedge-You show zero basketball IQ and just talk junk to everyone and hate on everything you possibly can. Go away and stay away.

  • Bloop33

Since when is it wrong to speculate on good players possibly joining the Knicks????

I’m not saying anything new here but New York is a draw for many many reasons. Theres no arguing the significance that comes with winning in NY, and we fans have the luxury and the rite to speculate on whether or not the top players of all sports want to come play for our teams at some point because it is NY…just as long as its within logical reasoning.

Some of us in here have been jaded by the Lebronathon to the point they think its foolish or dumb to waste time talking about getting Melo next summer blah blah etc. Gimme a break!

Last time I checked, we haven’t had the cap space to realistically think about signing any good players since 1996 so who cares that we spent the last two seasons+ dreaming of landing “the big fish”.

As long as we have the ability to acquire big name free agents and again the speculation is within reason, its our right to speculate all we want.

Make that “Kool-Aid” extra sweet and drink it up fellas, we’ve got enough to last us the next two off seasons at least.

Anyways back to business…I really think Melo’s coming to the Knicks at some point, what do you guys think?

  • latinony7

I think we definately got a good chance of melo coming here but if its a trade and denver asks for too much I don’t think donnie will pull the plug beacause we all know denver will ask for randolph,gallo,chandler,1st rd picks,TD and who knows who else they might ask for ! I would make that trade if denver would give us jr smith and birdman in that trade! Lol but it would be better if we pick him up next summer! We won’t give up players we don’t want to! Looks like for now NYK bball is back! I’m excited! Its been too damn long NY needs that respect and credibility !! This is the greatest city in the world! I’m proud to be from here! Queens! In the house ! Holla!

  • Bsems

    +1

PickNY its not about having “hear breaK” over lebron. Its about looking at our team for what it is right now. Talking about how randolph will fit with the type of players we have and system we run. Not how he could be a trade piece for melo.

We JUST acquired 3 guys who play specific roles that will help our knicks grow as a team.

The lebron james shyt was overbearing in the fact that you had ppl talking about lebron all season. Lets not have Lebron pt 2 with melo’s situation. Lets that story pick up steam on its own….at least until the trade deadline approaches. ITs July fellas.

I like melo just like most of yall do, but im not gonna talk about players who are on other teams!

  • Bsems

i think chandler is there because he NEEDS that extra work. hes coming off surgery and wants to come into training camp at 100%.

He missed a lot of time last season unlike gallo.

  • Russ

If you read Melo’s Twitter page, he has some recent tweets that strike me as being nostalgic for Brooklyn: http://twitter.com/carmeloanthony

Let’s just hope that this is good for the Knicks, and not for the Nets.

  • HaS

If there’s one thing Gallinari ‘NEEDS” it’s work.

  • HaS

    “You’re a Knick fan HaS?”

WTF would I be doing on theknicksblog.com if I wasn’t a Knick fan, genius?

  • donnie_brasco

i think he was being sarcastic

  • Russ

“there is no state tax is florida”

I know. I lived in Florida for several years. I was referring to how easy it is to legally evade New York’s state income tax.

Even if that route is not chosen, the lost endorsement revenue would easily close the gap, if not make NY the outright superior choice. Miami metro is about a fifth the size of NY metro, measured in population or GRP.

As far as LeBron’s goal to become a billionaire, he would have had a much easier time doing that in New York. The opportunities in Miami are much more limited. New York is a global financial center. Miami isn’t. New York is one of only two cities in the world ranked as an Alpha++ global city. Miami is five notches below ranked as a Beta global city. We can go on and on, but LeBron gave up a lot of money to go to Miami.

“Melo is not coming here for a discoun. If he can make more money in Denver by signing now, he will do it.”

Really? Then why hasn’t he signed that contract extension yet?
