NY Times Q and A with Randolph

by Ben Kopelman on July 27th, 2010 at 8:28 am

In case you didn’t get to the end of the article, it’s summed up in the final answer:

“I’m ready. I told Dan this morning after workouts I wished the season started tomorrow. I’m ready to play. I’m ready to get out there.”

  • HaS

“I’m ready. I told Dan this morning after workouts I wished the season started tomorrow. I’m ready to play. I’m ready to get out there. I feel I’ve added some things in my game. I feel like my shot is a thousand times better. I’m just ready to get out there and show everybody all the hard work I’ve put in since April 15, since the last game of the season.”

  • Nova B

I like what he is saying about his shot and working hard or whatever now I definitely know he is going to spell the four or five with amare seeing Ronnie and mozgov come off the bench ( I wish it was the other way but they already trying to make his shot better) tells me they want him with big mins. They already working out together is a good sign for me enough talk though I am ready to see you all ball also

he should of played a few games in summer league then.
    goodluck kid,wish u the best.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

looks like SESSIONS got him a starting job, guess SCOTT thinks what some do the kid can mos def dish,if he starts an gets good minutes he will be top 3-5 in assist

  • brookdon

That’s great, I wonder how much better. This guy could be a stud.

  • grahambo86

Maybe he wasn’t fully healthy or they didn’t want to risk further injury?

I don’t know, just spitballing here.

  • Joe-V

I’m excited about Randolph, maybe it’s because we haven’t had a player so young w/ so much upside here in quite sometime if ever.
Randolph is the new mold of NBA players at 6′-10″ he has a versatility to his game that reminds me of Odom, but he plays harder & faster than Odom.

I love how he wants to play here, he wants to play for the coaching staff and feels he has something to prove. Thats a formula for success, and being so young he has time to establish himself here in NY and become an All-Star player.

  • grahambo86

    Q. What’s your mind-set now?

    A. It’s all on me right now. If I don’t succeed, it’s my fault. It’s not on anybody else. Coach is going to give me an opportunity to show what I can do and if I don’t capitalize on it, it’s nobody’s fault but mine.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

yea it’s mos def 1 or the other

  • Joe-V

That sounds like he’s ready to be accountable, i love that.

That trait is a major reason young players to not succeseed early in there career.

  • SilentJay

Agreed. If this guy gets his jump shot going to add to his size and explosion, he can be a nightmare from 18 feet slashing straight to the hoop. He’d be a beast.
I’m not asking for a good 3 ball, just to see him get a “Lee-like” jumpshot going.

  • grahambo86

Good Q and A. Dude has me excited.

Anybody know what Gallo is up to? Haven’t really heard anything lately, just curious.

  • SilentJay

I think this coach will have to make Amare happy playing him at the four, but I think we’re gonna see a lot of games when, if lineup allows, he’ll move over to the 5 allowing AR to play as a PF with Gallo at the 3. Those 3 can cause some damage if they get some chemistry going and Felton can quickly adjust.

  • grahambo86

For a 21 year old to say that shows real maturity. He kinda makes up for us not having a 1st round pick this year.

  • mspmsp

why no one has brought up gilbert arenas in a trade scenario, i have no idea. take a look at this idea…
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=25fpngs

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

i hope the kids plays 70 games this season 82 will be perfect, start him of with 25-30 minutes then by december give him 35-40,then we will see what he can really do,if he gets big minutes from the get that will be great also,I REALLY HOPE THE KID DOESN’T GET INJURED AGAIN

  • SilentJay

A couple of his answers definitely pointed to his little fits with Nellie. I thinnk the kid udnerstands that he’s maturing and that in the process he’s bound to find a few roadblocks. We saw Gallo’s last year in his mid range game and in tendency to disappear on the road. They understand that they’re their own worst enemy.
Good to see the eagerness and that he’s ready to play.

  • SilentJay

I sincerely doubt anyone would want a headcase like Arenas along with his mind blogging contract. If NO wants to get rid of Emeka’s contract, why would they take on another ridiculous one?
Besides, they have their PG of the future, and a good SG waiting to get more minutes.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

your krazy for just mentioning HIM that contract is a cap killer

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

i think his biggest game might come when he plays the warriors, especially if donnie is at the sidelines

  • grahambo86

I am sincerely okay with the current roster. No more mention of trades until at least December! lol

  • grahambo86

Add Gallo to that equation and we could be in good shape for a 7/8 seed.

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

i’ll be kool with if the knicks can get a good s.g an it looking like RUDY-FER might get his wish

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

if they build some chemistry in training camp an add some more by mid december they can be ballin

  • Joe-V

Not for Nothing, but the Combo of Randolph and Galo, could turn into something special for a long time. Both these guy’s have all the talent and are 21 yrs old.. PRETTY SCARY.

its a nice look for us to finally have some real talent on the team.

  • KNICKAPLEASE77

    going to play over seas?

  • http://www.youtube.com/tharealest62qb DaGawD_KnowLedge

lol.na he really wants to play for danni boy an portland is willing to trade him

  • E-Roc

Whoever brings up Gilbert Arenas just please stop, you don’t know basketball. We want nothing to do with him. And the Hornets most certainly do not either.

Who do you guys think will be our starting center this year???

I know Turiaf is limited cuz of his heart condition and honestly i see him as more of a game finisher (when we are up) with his defense. Randolph doesn’t have the bulk but the SSOL system doesn’t really require a traditional 5 man either. I don’t see Mosgov starting, at least not yet. And Jerome Jordan probably won’t get much time at all or will be in the D-League. AR is actually an inch taller than both Turiaf and Amare, needs to add bulk though. Could he start? Or do you guys think it will be purely situational based on who we are playing any given night?

  • SilentJay

    Agreed.

  • SilentJay

Tough to see a solid fast SG that can be found. I thought Shannon Brown could be brought, but now I don’t know…

  • NEW KNICKS, NO REGRETS!

Dude the guy score 50 last year, he does not need summer league, getting hacked around by a bunch of D-leaguers..he should get healthy, keep working on his body strength and his shoot, after training camp and preseason he will be ready to go….

AR will be gr8 for this knick team if D’antoni puts him on the right state of mind. He should be our first sub of the bench…

    PG Felton – Douglas
    SG Chandler – Fields/Walker
    SF Gallo – Walker/Fields
    PF Amare, – AR
    C turiaf – Amar’e

Mosgov will spare STAT at center

I really think that D’antoni should play 9 Deep sometimes 10.

I like how Gentry does it in Phoenix, he plays 10 Deep and everyone is rested at the end of games. Also helps bench players get enough time to develop and get confidence.

  • Joe-V

Amar’e will finish the game at the center spot,
i see our line up like this

    1- Ray
    2- AZ
    3- Galo
    4- Randolph
    5- Amar’e

  • NEW KNICKS, NO REGRETS!

The NEW YORK KNICKS are in great shape. We are moving up and this season will show it! As long as we are patient and let this whole thing develop.

I just hate when i got to games and see people booing, Yes they are playing bad but Booing does not help! That is not going to make them play better!…That is one of the reasons why other stars are afraid to come to NY…

We have to make the garden a sanctuary for our players and a nightmare for opposing teams…but sometimes i feel is the other way around.

Let’s get behind this guys, show the NBA that Knicks are back and that we support our team.

I dont know why we cheer for opposing players, Yes they are stars but who the hell cares, they are playing against us,,,those are the ones we should boo and hackle at…

Hey! guess what, everybody. I was walking around in soho last friday and guess who i bump into.
ANTHONY RANDOLPH. He is definately a very long dude. and he looks thicker than i remember him being.
His neck and face definately had more meat than his nba stock player card photo, which has kinda sorta been emblazened in my brain from drooling over his career stats so often.

He was hitting on some girl, who was definately below his league. I gave him a dap, and said “great to have you aboard.” he said thanks. we did a special handshake. and he went back to hollering at the girl. He was with two friends and they seemed pretty enthused that i recognized him. AR couldn’t care less. not that i blame him.

Oh also, i took a pic with him. I wish i knew how to show it to you guys.

  • NEW KNICKS, NO REGRETS!

Nice article…Not long a go, yankees were w/out a championship for more than a decade, then in the mid 90′s came what we call today “the core 4″ (Jeter,Rivera, Pettite, Posada) all home grown talent that the city embrace and they brought youth and a winning mentality to a franchise that prays itself on winning champioships…

I’m not saying that this players will win one right off the back but they will be good and maybe can attract another start (Carmelo) to come in and bring them over the hump…
I think If Melo keeps his options open and this Knick team gets 41-45 wins and makes the playoffs and maybe win one p/o series, maybe he will be entice to come and join the cause…

That is why we have to maintain a positive attitude towards the Knicks this season. No Matter what happens we have to show support and show Melo that Knicks are loved again and that he will the Man that brings the knicks to championship contention every year…

Spread the word!!! Knicks are Back!!!

  • Dave the Rave

    Awesome, sounds good!

  • dino2008

I love this kid. keep the kids and develop our own stars
