Amar’e Heads to Israel

Now, the fog is clearing, and according to haaretz.com, the Knicks power forward’s trip to Israel comes in light of his learning that his mother is Jewish. As sbnation.com pointed out, this means that Stoudemire is also Jewish.

He seems to be embracing his newly discovered religious roots, as he is quickly picking up on some Hebrew, as he noted in his latest tweet, and has ended each of his last two with “Shalom.”

Be sure to follow Amar’e on Twitter as he’s tweeting about his trip…

That’s sorta cute, and if he has the time this summer why not. The history in Israel is awesome for anyone to behold. I hope he knows there are Hebrew schools all over the NYC area and I’m sure he is already hearing how the original Knicks were mostly Jewish. I visited Israel in ’85 and saw a Maccabi game in a gym (no major stadiums over there then) in Tel Aviv and the fans were insane, profane, loud and totally rabid. La chiam, Amar’e!

No, Eddy Curry’s ongoing saga tops em all.

Can’t they cut Curry loose now. Conduct detrimental to clauses in contract or something?

this is the first piece that has nothign to do with cap space, potential, trade talks, or free agency since the lebronathon first started months ago. Its cool because it makes me feel like amare is finally a real knick and i can learn more about him, but its strange to me that the first story that comes out about the new team is about how amare has recently discovered hes a black jew. Nothing against either group, my girlfriend is a jew, im just saying its very odd. Besides all that, the fact that hes so enthusiastic about it, its all just very odd to me.

How convenient. A significant portion of Knicks fans are Jewish, as are many of the sports writers. He is clearly just trying to get in good with this tribe.

No, let’s not assume what he’s clearly doing. He said he wants to explore the culture of his roots.

I know it’s silly, but I do smile when I hear that Ryan Braun and Kevin Youkilis have good games. But Amare will be taking the much-mythologized but little-seen “brawny Jew” concept to new heights! Literally!

    this is pretty special.
you know that red holzman’s banner hangs in the rafters at the garden.
he was the jewish coach of the ny knicks championship teams.
the jewish torah prescribes 613 laws to follow.
    a very important spiritual number.
red holzman won 613 games as a knick coach.
that is the number on his banner hanging in the rafters at msg.
    go amar’e.

lol. Seriously, we have a pretty diverse team now, when you include Turiaf the Frenchman and Randolph was born in Germany I think. Pretty crazy.

Heck, even Wilson Chandler is embracing Rastafarian culture.

Correction, The “Black Bear Jew” lol

I hear this is less about his Mother possibly being Jewish and more about a moving speech by the “Tribe of Judah” he heard in Times Square last tuesday.

Angry Head Tribe Memeber: “You there, Brotha Amar’e Stoudamire!, don’t let these devils fool you my brotha”

      “Brother Saul”…..READ!!!!

Brother Saul: “Genesis 2:10 – “And a River went out of Eden to water the Garden; and from thence it was parted and became four heads.”

      Amar’e: “I’m Jewish!!”

Brother Saul: “Can I interest you in some Polo flavored incense brotha Amar’e”

Amare: “Ya know, I’d love some”

Him being Jewish all of a sudden can only help him win over much of the Garden faithful.

FanHouse’s Jon Weinbach spoke to Happy Walters, Amare’s (Jewish) agent, and got a lot more information on exactly what the hell is going on with Amar’e newfound religious identity, and his big, bad summer vacation. “He’s not Jewish, it’s all getting blown a little bit out of proportion,” said Walters. “His mother says there’s some Jewish blood on her side, but Amar’e is just a total student of history and had been planning a trip to Israel for awhile. Is it possible [that he's Jewish]? Maybe. We’re going to do some research, but I don’t know where that will go.” FanHouse.com
