Dunleavy on the Block?

by Myles A. Mills on July 29th, 2010 at 2:56 am

Via Indianapolis Star:

The Pacers don’t feel comfortable going into next season with their current roster.

That’s why team officials want to make a trade for the first time in nearly two years.

The two players they’re trying to move are T.J. Ford and Mike Dunleavy, according to sources.

Dunleavy has battled some injuries but he can shoot lights out. Just two years ago he averaged 19 and 5 on 48%/42%. His health is obviously the key, but he’s a pure shooting guard, and again, is Bill Walker going to cut it for 82 games?

About Myles A. Mills

Myles is a sophomore at The Browning School, an all-boys private school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He's been a Knick fan as long as he can remember, and 02-03 was the last season he could remember in entirety. He hopes to one day see the Knicks in the playoffs. Myles is also fond of the Mets, and follows them vehemently, but his the bulk of his time goes to the Knicks. Myles wants to be a radio hosts on WFAN or ESPN 1050 radio, and he hopes to write for theknicksblog.com for years to come. View all posts by Myles A. Mills →

    Worth more than a sniff…

  • bluemax

can’t believe i’m still up reading this stuff.

anyway, how the hell do we swing dunleavy. he is making 10.5 Mil this year. unless for some unfathomable reason the pacers are interested in fat boy Curry. then god bless them. By all means.

  • johneco

He has one year left on his contract at $10.5 Mil.

If you look at our player salaries, there’s really noone on our roster with a matching salary, except Eddy. Why would they do that? They wouldn’t.

  • YO SON

if walsh has any clout, love, respect, loyalty or anything of worth from the Indiana pacers then maybe they do a trade for Eddy Curry…..it be nice if walsh had at least one friend in the league that can do him a solid…if any organization would you think it be the pacers…..geeesh..maybe if we throw in routins too….I think that will really entice them….really…..

  • omegared536

we dont need him rather rudy then his injury prone self

  • YO SON

then maybe that opens up a roster spot for PE jr…..yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay..

  • YO SON

I dont think there going to ask for a first round pick for dunleavy…..

  • Ftingue

I’ll take them both on Dantony’s system

Excuse me for the random question ….but whats our back-up plan if Carmelo stays in Den or goes elsewhere like the Nets [he is from brooklyn] ?? …would Caron Butler be the next choice?? ….Dunleavy certainly isnt the answer for our future ….on the other hand…I don’t want Chandler walking for nothing….idk….just want opinions ….later Knicks Nation

how about we dont put our eggs in a carmelo basket and maintain flexibility. We could pull this trade off. all expiring contracts anyway and chase melo if needed but i like this potential.

    PG FELTON/BAYLESS
    SG FERNANDEZ/AZUBUIKE/RAUTINS
    SF GALLO/CHANDLER/FIELDS/CUNNINGHAM
    PF STOUDEMIRE/RANDOLPH
    C ODEN/MOZGOV/TURIAF

    JORDAN =D-LEAGUE

  • Dave the Rave

Whose plan? Is it Walsh’s plan? He’s the GM.

  • Dave the Rave

Dunleavy is soft, has no fight, has lousy knees and has the same size and less potentional than Gallo. He’s a total wimp under the board like Darko was. Next…

  • http://www.twitter.com/ThisisDowJoNeS Dow JoNeS

only offer i’ll do for Dunleavy is Curry + Rautins & 2nd rd pick in like 2014 or 2015

i’ll do a felton for t.j ford & draft pick or money after Dec. ….jus for cap space of course & T.j can put almost same #’s as felton this system

  • http://www.twitter.com/ThisisDowJoNeS Dow JoNeS

    in* this system

  • vin

I was going to chuck in my 2 cents, but that says it all.

  • manners

Cmon!! Can BWalker cut it For 82 games? Why not? We killed Isiah and layden for their trading future for injured veterans and your proposing adding this stiff?. I’ve jad enough of the blog for today

  • E-Roc

i don’t want chandler moved for rudy. he is a better chip to go after melo.

  • Sharp Elbow

Why the hell would NO make that trade?

  • Sharp Elbow

I don’t want to trade for Dunleavey, but did you watch the Summer League. Bill Walker did not look like the guy to be banking on.

  • E-Roc

why would we make this trade? bayless can’t shoot and oden can’t stay healthy. and why would new orleans make this trade? they give up one of best players in the game for andre miller and eddy curry? think again, and then think some more.

  • KnickFan4Life

What’s wrong with Bill Walker? I’d rather have him on the roster than Dunleavy. Dunleavy is what he is he is not going to improve, Walker at least has some potential…

  • KnickFan4Life

And wow Dunleavy is making 10.5 mill this year. Ridiculous!!!

  • JustinCharles

I wouldn’t describe Dunleavy as a pure shooting guard…he’s really more of a small foward, not quick enough to guard a lot of twos.

That being said, he’s an excellent shooter and a smart basketball presence and I think he could be a good player for this team, I just wouldn’t give up anything valuable for him.

  • KnickFan4Life

I’m not gonna lie if it’s an even swap for Curry I would do it, but otherwise doesn’t really make much sense for Knicks…

  • Dylan

Why would NO ever make this deal? And if they were willing to, you really don’t think the Knicks could put together a group of players that NO would prefer over the like 60 year old Andre Miller? They aren’t giving Paul away for free…

  • thebossandbenji76

Knicks won’t be able to trade Curry for another expiring contract, u can trade him for a player with a contract beyond this year. If Anthony signs that extension by the time the February trade deadline and it is determined we can’t get Paul or Paul is traded elsewhere, the guy to watch is Steve Nash, think about it, look at their off-season and look at the west, are there 8 teams better then PHX that can make the playoffs? I think there is with Blake Griffin coming back to the Clippers and the rockets getting a full year of Kevin Martin and now a healthy Yao. I would see Tony Douglas, Wilson Chandler and Eddy Curry’s expiring for Steve Nash, say what u want about Nash, he would make guys like Walker, Gallo, Amare and Randolph and others a hell of a lot of better then they are.

  • All Hail Gallo

everyone here overrates bill walker so much its ridiculous. Theres a reason this guy was a toss in for n8 last year. Hes a bum, he cant stay healthy, and without his fat he doesnt know how to score, or in accordance with his summer league performance, how to play the game in general. Ship him out for the first good player we can find, hes not an asset and hel never be a starter. I may not even consider him a rotation guy. He did good at the end of the year when every team was playing their scrubs. I consider performing at years end about even with performing in summer league. Its called earl barron syndrome.

  • fredweis

I’d love to bring in Dunleavy and TJ Ford. That gives us a starting 2 and a playmaking backup PG.

Makes the Knicks a legit playoff team.

Knicks will have to get a third team involved to send a PG to Indiana. We probably have to send Toney Douglas out too.

  • All Hail Gallo

if all wer giving up is one of both of bill walker/Td and maybe some second ounders, id have pull the trigger without even thinking

  • gianthinker

    Miles=Bill Walker HATER

  • All Hail Gallo

bill walker= never proved anything/toss in in n8trade/peaked in hs

  • thebossandbenji76

I wonder if Bill Walker and the 2 2nd round picks we got from the warriors is what the knicks are offering for Rudy Fernandez..
