House Signs With Miami

By Ben Kopelman on Jul 29, 2010, 1:51 pm

Via Yahoo:

The Heat have reached an agreement with 32-year-old guard Eddie House on a two-year contract for $2.8 million, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday. The second year of the deal is a player option for $1.4 million.

House was part of the package that came over from Boston in the Nate trade at last year’s deadline.

The Bulls were also said to be interested in the veteran’s services.

With that roster down there in South Beach…..I truly won’t be surprised if they challenge the Bulls record setting season of 72wins…that’s a real credit to Riley and luck

I Already know whats going to happen in South Beach Bosh is going to disappear while Lebron tries to share the ball and Wade carries the team…
They will not beat the 72 win record but they will get close beating on the mediocre and sorry teams while the contenders beat them.

And then you wake up and grab the morning paper and realized they swept their way to a championship.

        Both scenarios equally as likely.

Dallas, LA, Boston, Chicago All contenders all can beat the three amigos..
I Know you said both are equally likely but Their games are gonna offset one another.

They will have games where they beat each other, trust me.

If the Knicks could be Dallas (by 30 I think?) and Boston last year, I’m going to go out on a limb and say I think the Heat will win some games against the contenders of the league.

There is a reason why a championship team like Boston traded this guy.

They will make the playoffs get out of the first round and that’s it.

The Miami Heat’s current supporting cast age is pretty old by NBA standards…they better hope that team can keep up with the younger opponents.

    Eddie House age: 32
    Žydrūnas Ilgauskas age: 35
    Juwan Howard age: 37
    Carlos Arroyo age: 31
    Jamaal Magloire age: 32
    Mike Miller age: 30

It’s only their supporting cast, I don’t think it’s a problem. I think their experience’s going to help them tremendously in the playoffs.

If there supporting cast can make it to the playoffs and not wear down. Experience can only go so far. It won’t do much if your experienced veteran guys cannot make it to the finish line.

Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace and Ray Allen are older than Mike Miller, Eddy House, Magloire and Arroyo and they were huge contributors for the Boston Celtics last season. Health is a major issue for everybody, the Heat are not more injury-prone than any other team. No disrespect but your argument is baseless IMO.

            Jul 29, 2010, 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #

Health issue are a concern for everyone especially when you get older…and the miles on that body add up healths concerns become more imperative.

The heat have 7 players over the age of 30 who are expected to contribute all year long. I did not say the Heat are more injury-prone than any other teams…there are other things such as endurance that can play a factor.

Miller, House, Magloire, and Arroyo have accomplished nothing last year. They just got a year older.

Like I said before experience can take you only so far. Supporting cast make a good team with 1-2 allstars champions…

so we just basically traded Nate for walker(illlllll)..wasn’t picks suppose to be included in that deal too… nobody even mentions that other dude because there’s really no place for him here..woow..I thought we were told house was good for us because he played for antoni before and that he knows his system he’s a out side shooter…and all dudes talk about on here for the most part is the need for outside shooters….(plz save the billy talk)

so let me get this straight…..we traded a player from a 50 loss team who was 1 of our best scorers….for a player on a Championship Contender(second best team in the league last year) who couldn’t make there regular season rotation….Nate goes there when dudes actually thought he wasn’t going to even dress for the celtics in the playoffs…but instead played a vital role for them off the bench in there run for a Championship….unbelievable…like I told Anthony if you want to be a Championship contender then you do what championship contenders do if THEY want Nate Robinson then YOU keep Nate Robinson.

It’s not hard to be a great scorer on a bad team when thats all you do. If you remember Nate was being a huge disruption, we all knew he was going to walk at the end of the season anyway, so the fact that we got even just Walker for him is a huge coup. Also, I wouldn’t say Nate played a vital role for the Celtics….he was a decent bench scorer who averaged 7.5 minutes and had one good game. I’d keep Nate around to play 10 minutes a game too, but not 30+.

The truth is, there was 0 chance we were re-signing Nate. He was going to walk at the end of the season for nothing. So, instead, we got another chucker to take Nate’s role for the rest of the season, and a young player in Walker who is signed on the cheap for another season or two. It really was a good deal.

I think he’s a great addition. I hate the Heat.

    Guys,

Riley is the man. Everyone wanted one of these guys and Riley got all three of them and made them take a paycut. Now thats Gangsta!!!
These young kids look at Riley and his Armani suits and see a Godfather type of a man.

When I get home tonight I’m gonna crack the bottle of my JW Blue that I was saving with my rare cuban to celebrate a NBA championship.

I’ll probably die before we even compete again(41 yr. old) so I just took off tomorrow and will get bombed tonight.

They are one of the best teams that I’ve EVER seen on paper.

I don’t think anybody’s saying they are the champions but they will be a great team if they can’t stay healthy.

Now if they can just sign penny they would have the championship wrapped up.

Besides the Miami team being a sad display of what basketball has come to (lebron dupping everyone into thinking he was great when all he wants to do is cruise to a chip, bosh is the good player who wants to be known as great but cant playing behind to other superstars, all playing with each other as opposed to against each other). That team is still not championship material. Besides the great article Charley Rosen wrote on the strengths and weaknesses on that team, they will not win a chip.

Teams with good big men and strong half court games will exploit that team. For example, why have my guards play lebron man up when all i have to do is dump it to howard or gasol to post up down low and exploit joel anthony and vardo. Double team my center, ill kick it back out to pierce, kobe, rashad lewis, pietrus. Every team is beatable, and this will be a team that will struggle in terms of who will score and when (Bosh, wade, and lebron had possession % over 38%, if wade gets injured, will lebron trust bosh, how will boshs post up shooting game be used when he wont get the ball and will be relgated to mop up duty even though hes not strong downlow, albeit he does have great feet and hands).

I hope this team loses and believe they will struggle in the backend of the season and playoffs. On other news, i like the knicks as the seventh seed. felton, walker/chandler, gallo, randolph, and amare would be a beast lineup in the weak east as long as 1) randolph plays 2) felton can properly and effectively feed amare the ball on pick and rolls and play possibly a triangle half court set with gallo on the three point line 3) Chandler can also facilitate passing as his drives will be challenged midway to the basket by quasi-screens which will leave amare open for a split second for the effective drive and pass. For a first time in a long time I am highly optimistic for these knicks. Please stay healthy walsh, dont let isiah back in.

This is a good pick up for the Heat any way you want to spin it. I actually would have liked House to stick around – he wasn’t great here last year but he’s a good player when all he is asked to do is stretch the floor and shoot the 3.

    • Dylan
      Jul 29, 2010, 3:39 pm at 3:39 pm #

He couldn’t shoot the 3 last year… If you take away that part of his game, he is pretty useless. I don’t think he gets much playing time.

Anybody who doesn’t think the Miami Heat is going to win it this year is crazy. LeBron made the Cavs a 60+ win team with a roster of C players and a few B- players

You really think he’s going crumble in the playoffs to a Boston or Chicago.. He can beat Chicago by himself, and if he had Wade or Bosh he would have beat Boston.

I hope everyone on the Heat plays like trash and the chemisty doesn’t work and they live in misery, but,,, odds are LBJ and Wade are about display a new level of Basketball never seen before.

New Level, did anyone see them two on the court in the Olympics?

    • Bloop33
      Jul 29, 2010, 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #

      Lets hope not lol.

I’m interested in seeing how they defend and how they handle all the different types of zones that will get thrown their way. They’re gonna get match-up zoned to death this season lol. He and Wade’s strongest suit is their ability to penetrate and its gonna be interesting how they adjust their games, b/c they both aren’t great shooters. Guys like House and Miller will help tho.

I’m looking at their potential defensive lineups and its clear, LBJ and Wade are gonna have to play some D this year lol. One of them is gonna have to take on the role of defensive stopper, especially with a suspect defender like Mike Miller on the squad.

Wade can D up great when he’s motivated, but if he gets a little banged and into some foul trouble, who’s gonna step in and assume that role? LBJ isn’t a great one on one defender in his own right, so we are gonna see if these two can really D up. If not, this notion of them being in the same breath as Mike and Scottie as a duo will get squashed real fast.

No more just putting a guy on the other teams best perimeter player so LBJ or Wade can coast on defense and save energy. All three of them are good help defenders, but who knows how quickly their team D can gel, if it does at all. Miss Bosh is gonna have to D up as well.

This is going to be very interesting.

        Jul 29, 2010, 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #

Yeah but ur forgetting they gotta play Offense too, nobody in the league can stop LBJ or Wade. Zone Defense is suspect to ally-oops and oh yeah can anyone jump w/ those guy’s??

LBJ and Wade on D is not a problem, they will win the match up all day..

The Spacing on the floor will be suffocating. Wade and Lebron are huge slashers. Bosh is jump shooter. Good team on paper.

        • Bloop33
          Jul 30, 2010, 3:17 pm at 3:17 pm #

Nah, not forgetting at all, thats a given. Zone defense for the whole game is bad for any team, but in crunch time, like does to many teams, it could throw them off and force them to shoot their way out of it. Tough task.

They cant just ally-oop people to death…or could they? lol
