Larry Johnson, the former No. 1 overall draft pick, is interested in (an assistant coaching) job and visited the team recently.

Johnson has a history with new Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. Johnson played for the New York Knicks from 1996-2001, while Thibodeau was on the coaching staff working under Jeff Van Gundy. Since retiring in 2001, Johnson has not held any formal coaching jobs.

Jeff Van Gundy, who, Tibodeau worked for here, called LJ the “greatest teammate” he’s ever coached while on the air with us on TKB Radio. It would be no surprise to see him end up with his former assistant coach.

I would hate to see him on a Bulls sideline. It’s a shame Knicks can’t get more former players involved in the organization. I’m a Yanks fan so I’m more used to guys coming back and coaching and etc, wish Knicks ran the operation more like that sometimes…

I agree, We seldom if ever bring people home. But hey I would rather see him with the Bulls than *(#*$&@ Miami!

    Good luck LJ!

FYI- LJ was an unofficial Knicks rep at the Amare Stoudemire press introduction. So he is still in the good graces of MSG.

I love LJ, if he was coaching players will listen ,,, no doubt about that

Aside from Starks, for me personally, LJ was the Knick who I enjoyed watching succeed the most. No difference here.

Hey what are the rules for a team negotiating with a player in Will Barton’s situation? Young full of potential we need to strike first and take chances like that and be ahead of the game.

Damn, LJ was my favorite player growing up, ever since I seen his tenacity at UNLV, and when he got drafted by the Hornets, they became my second favorite team behind the Knicks. I had his Hornets Jersey in every color and every pair of his kicks….I was probably the happiest person when he got traded to the knicks…

so yea this is def said to see him possibly going to the bulls as an assistant.

and to everyone above who is talking reckless about him not being in the organization, HE HAS, he’s been working w/ Starks in fan development and stuff like that w/ the knicks…

Not bashing Herb Williams but he’s like stuck to the Knicks bench and you hardly hear how he’s helped any of the players…Its time for him to move on.
I’d like the Knicks to bring in someone from the Knicks better years like LJ, Starks, Ewing…
