NY Post: Walsh Didn’t Work on Zeke’s Contract

by Tommy Dee on August 7th, 2010 at 3:56 pm

Via Marc Berman

Team president Donnie Walsh admitted he did not work on Isiah Thomas’ contract to be a part-time paid consultant. But Walsh, who has had health issues this summer, insisted he’s safe in his position and repeated he is not hiring a GM.

“I’m not leaving the job,” Walsh told The Post. “I’m 98 percent and trying to get back to 100 percent.”

Interesting…and good job from Berman getting Walsh’s take.

Is it possible to boycott James Dolan? We need someone to start a petition.

  • Dylan

Everybody should switch to FIOS lol. But yeah what a d-bag! The dude doesn’t care about the fans at all. This is a direct insult to all of us that pay money to support this team. What an embarrassment. I understand that Isiah wants to turn his post-career career around. But the Knicks should not be the team that helps him do it. Isiah shouldn’t be allowed to do ANYTHING except greet potential free agents when they come through the door, and scout draft picks. This guy has done NOTHING as a GM and a coach but destroy teams. His FIU team was 7-25 last year! What does else does he need to ruin before people realize that he is useless in a management or coaching position?!

  • bluemax

why us? why doesn’t dumars take him back in DET?

How about Khan “the lunatic”. why doesn’t he go to Minny or the North pole.

  • bluemax

    I got it.

Dolan got a master plan. he’s going to trade him in one big toxic package along with fat boy eddie to GS since they seem to be the only one willing to trade with us these days. We fleeced them once, so why not again!

  • giantg

You get used to hearing how popular he is with players…it’s not surprising really, he over paid every player he signed…what NBA pro wouldn’t want to stay in his good graces?

Can’t help but notice though, he is a “legend” in Detroit, was a pivitol player who helped bring them two chapionships…yet the Pistons want nothing to do with him. His old championship teammate is the longtime Piston’s GM and doesn’t give him the time of day. Says a lot really.

  • akdrum

    Man…they better start winning-
Then all this BS will start to go away.
You don’t see this crap about the Yankees- cuz they win and are the champs…this is ridiculous. Also, remember- we feed the machine (NYmedia) by clicking on these articles- the more we click the more BS they write. It’s great when we blog about Kinicks BB. It seems to me all everyone wants to BS blog about is Melo/CP3,Dolan and IT.We dont blog about Rubio (he sucks) and LBJ (he’s jinxed for good- the new Barkley/Ewing) Lets stick to BB-we have no say about policy- period.Go and boycott..they could care less,Eddie Curry could care less-someone else will get your tickets. We speculate on the info given to us by the media- and stats performed by the Bb pplayers.
Bottom line:Its gives IT more power when we even mention him on blogs-He wants it-there is no such thing as bad press. oh, and believe when I say IT’s is reading everything…EVERYTHING!!!

  • BrooklynsFinest1

You took the word right out of my mouth. He is not even welcomed to the very team he became a legend and won championships with in any capacity. But Jimmy Blues Dolan loves him. How do you help repair a friends image to the detriment of your business. The biggest thing is he likes to go against logic. If the fans or media say that Dolan should get rid of IT he doesnt care how many chants of fire IT happens at the Garden he is keeping him around. Commish Stern forces Stern’s hand but 2 years later guess who’s back. Dolan just told Stern I dont care who you are I want him on the team no matter how it affects the image of the team. Hey now we know how Rangers fans feel with Sather and they made the playoffs every now and then but thats all. His job is lifetime.

  • Aj

I’m right there with you akdrum

  • blackwood

Are you sanctimonious and self righteous holier then then thou guys all from the same cult or klan or is this just some random disease? what the hell was FIU’s record before he got there or better yet who the hell even heard of them or when did they make the news before he got there!?! It will be a long fall from that high horse for some of u guys.

  • http://Knicks.com/ Russ

I could deal with Dolan not caring about the fans if he at least cared about winning.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

Akdrum you are right the problem is that having the one person that gave us Eddy, James, Jeffries, Marbury so forth and so on is around the bend and you will see him at the Garden with Dolan believe that and thats what fans dont like.Who cares about the team when we as fans chanted fire Isiah and it took Stern to give us what we wished for to now have that same person saying they had input in this signing or this trade? It aint right

  • harris

There you are! I was waiting for your take on this. You got it nailed my friend. It’s the color of his skin which is the reason for all this criticism! If Isiah were a white man, nobody would say a peep about his lousy record. If he were a white man, he wouldn’t have been convicted by that jury. All these disguised “klansmen” coming down so hard on Isiah for no good reason, it’s not fair!

  • http://Knicks.com/ Russ

FIU was 13-20 in 2008-2009. They got worst under Zeke.

  • Alvin from JC

we should send dolan to Guantánamo Bay by tricking him to play with his band there. c meat sandwich time

  • Knicks4life

Zeke and Detroit’s owner had a falling out a while back.

Dumars is apparently planning his exit as well.

  • Knicks4life

“But Walsh, who has had health issues this summer, insisted he’s safe in his position and repeated he is not hiring a GM.”

Walsh not hiring a GM is more troubling to me than the Knicks bringing IT back. IMO he needs, at the very least, help with evaluating talent in the draft and in maximizing the talent he gets back in trades (i.e. draft picks).

BTW anybody know if it was confirmed that we actually got second round picks back in the David Lee trade?

  • Dylan

Really? Pulling out the race card? Classy move dude… Maybe I just dislike him because HE SUCKED AS A GM…

  • BiggieSmalls

no offense but that’s just dumb and insulting.

  • Dylan

Are you seriously making this about race? Grow up. People on here dislike him because HE SUCKED AS OUR GM. I hate on Dolan all the time. Is that racist of me as well? Get a life and stop talking BS. Loser.

  • BiggieSmalls

good job by Berman getting the quote..

Berman catches a lot of flack but he is definitely the hardest working guy on the beat..

when the other snarky knicks beat guys are sipping coladas on vaca Berman is out there getting quotes from Walshie..

  • http://twitter.com/MotorCityHero MotorCityHero

I wish the Stienbrenners would buy the Knicks from Dolan…

  • harris

No, what is “dumb and insulting” is making this about race, by referring to people who criticize this man as being part of a “cult or klan”. Enough of this crap already.

  • bartnyk

The Isiah stuff is annoying so what lets talk about the team.

Does anyone know if we’re still going after Rudy?

  • Dylan

Oh woops I failed to recognize your sarcasm in your last post. Yeah making this about race is really immature. HE HELPED DESTROY THIS FRANCHISE! People would be pissed off if the Knicks decided to hire Layden as well!

  • ds2488

    lol

  • ds2488

agreed. But Berman at times reports his own opinions as facts, and also constantly cites unsubstantiated sources in a never-ending attempt to make the Knicks look as bad as possible(he still hasn’t gotten over Marbury imo).

But I agree, he does good work when he actually wants to, and is probably the best in terms of digging up info and scooping.

  • Dylan

I can’t imagine that we are because, A) the Blazers are asking for too much, and B) the Knicks already have too many players on the roster. If the Knicks were somehow able to pull off a blockbuster trade before the season started, I think he would be a possibility. Right now though, we already have a 5 man competition between Chandler, Azubuike, Mason Jr., Walker, and Fields for playing time at the 2.

  • ds2488

Honestly Blackwood, I respect your opinion, but to make this about race is completely unfair. Isiah was an awful gm by any possible measure. That’s the reason fans hate him. Layden also gets made fun of a lot…is that racism? And add to Isiah a horrifying insulting sexual harrasment lawsuit, and you pretty much get why he is hated so much. In my opinion at least.

  • harris

No, what is “dumb and insulting” is to reference people who criticize Isiah Thomas as being “from the same cult or klan”. Absolutely uncalled for, and obvious in its intent.

  • BrooklynsFinest1

bartnyk yu are right, but what is their to honestly talk about with our team? We know what we have and the constant talk of trades has worn everyone down especially when we probably know we wont get anybody good to great. Honestly we are only playing for a 7th or 8th seed so expectations are not exactly high. This IT crap just makes fans feel black or white that Dolan is clueless and we are doomed unless he sells the team or fans go to other teams.

  • dogmanx23

You guys know Isiah never left right? He was here in 2008,2009 and 2010. This just made it official. I don’t like it but its not different from the last 2 years and we’ve done pretty well for ourselves.

All this Isiah will sneak his way into the GM job is funny to me. Houston is next in line. Houston is the one in the meetings, Houston is the one always talking to Donnie and Dolan. Houston is the one that handles the media really well.

Isiah this summer just like Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Fat Joe were ALL Consultants.

Everyone is getting caught up in this. As for me I’m ready for 2010 where Donnie is in Charge, Houston is the #2. And Isiah is recruiting and coaching at FIU.

  • onemoretime

Difference between Isiah and Layden is obvious.Yes they both did a terrible job but Layden didn’t treat people like crap and alienate them in the process. Like i stated before; going back to his playing days Isiah had a way of pissing off friend and foe alike.

  • bluemax

Actually I agree. to describe IT tenure as a failure is unfair. It was beyond a failure, It was MONUMENTAL. I’d even say unprecedented in the history of sport as far as I can remember.

We had a 135 Mil payroll, 2 HOF coaches back to back (ex IT himself). we had 5 players that were or had been recently 20PPG scorers, some of them franchise players and managed 33,23,33,23.

And to think people on this blog crucify MD for a 33,29 record playing a bunch a rented misfits, some of them for half a season. The same people that actually now try to defend IT!

Well, this is NYC. It all happens here! nobody said it had to make any sense.

  • ds2488

good points. I pretty much agree, but I also think speculation about him returning is justified. Dolan suffers from a serious case of idol worship and stockholm syndrome and whatever else when it comes to Isiah..He keeps going back to him.

With some talk about Walsh trying to hire Mullin as a gm and being dismissed by Dolan, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to fear that Dolan wants to keep the spot open for Isiah to return triumphantly and pretend like this is all his doing when it really had nothing to do with him(maybe a little).

But I agree with you. This is the same as its been the past 3 years, and so far I haven’t been given much reason to think that Isiah will ever move beyond this consultant post. I don’t think Dolan is even that stupid to try and bring Isiah back, but I still hold my breath lol.

  • blackwood

ds2488 we dont tend to agree on somethings but I always try to respect opinions I think you know that about me. But I have to be honest it is irrational and over the top with Isiah so it has to be more then basketball.

“Layden also gets made fun of a lot” When? Where? The only time people back track and say some simple “oh he was not great ether” is when someone like me brings him up, and what is said does not come close to what Isiah gets while he did all the damage Isiah spent his whole time here trying to clean up.

Was Isiah the best GM? No far from it but Layden after destroying the Knicks went right back to work for Utah and not a peep, but Isiah gets rehired on a part time gig to do what he does best Evaluate the draft and put a face FA’s better relate to in meetings and he is getting crucified!! It is ugly over the top irrational and just wrong.

As for that bull crap harassment suit every time I try to post the facts on that case so people can refresh there memory and see why it was bull crap it gets blocked by you know who. It was a trash case that they lost only because stupid ass Dolen was impulsive and canned her rather then letting his legal team do it.

So while I respect opinions I can not defend irrational hate and bigoted over kill, and trust me the media is the key to it they stoke the flames of hate and allow it to feed what is in some peoples heart.

  • blackwood

When did Isiah treat you like crap? Or is that based on the same secret sources that said LBJ will be a Knick? Speculation is not fact. The Knicks never had a worse GM then Layden! This guy was not only a bad judge of talent he was the biggest spender of them all! Again Allen Houston’s contract was the worst in Knicks History! The antonio mcdyess trade was the worst trade in Knicks history followed only by the Ewing trade! Man it must be fun to rewrite history when some of you guys do it!

  • Mucha

He tries too much to generate “controversy” based on questionable sources for my taste and he’s not the most knowledgable sports beatwriter to say the least but I like his work ethic. He actually endorsed the Tracy McGrady deal – and doesn’t hesitate to bash “LeCon” for his “Decision”.

  • blackwood

FI who should be the name of that school lol. Could it be the division got better before his arrival? hmmm

  • ds2488

You know I respect your opinions too.

I make fun of Layden all the time. The simple thing is that Isiah is more recent, and still hurting us to this day, so he’s brought up more often. Layden is long gone.

The thing that kills Isiah all these years later is how many people he alienated and the harrassment lawsuit. And I agree with your assesment of the lawsuit: I don’t believe Isiah would waste his time on that woman. Trust me, I’m there with you. But it still happened, and if the case revealed anything it was that a deep seeded misogynistic boys club had been running the garden for years, and Isiah played a big part in that.

Add to that the neverending string of hall of fame coaches who were constantly fired by Isiah in embarrassing circus-like media situations, the crazyness that was Stephon Marbury, the fact that he bet the franchise on Eddy Curry only to have Eddy be more concerned with donuts than rebounding, and the ridiculous contracts handed out to Jerome James and Jared Jeffries and I think it’s clear why Isiah is hated so much.

But I do respect his hof credentials as a player and I think he can help this team with scouting and recruiting. I don’t want him anywhere near management though, and I think you agree with me on that and can understand why some people might hate Isiah so much.

  • blackwood

I have no problem with people pointing out the mans errors he has his fair share but acting as if we where the 90′s bulls before he got here is crazy! How do you destroy what was already obliterated by Layden? The over the top hate is the issue I am speaking on, Layden after completely destroying us went right back to work for Utah and not a peep about that. So yea forgive me if it is easy for me to see double standereds in the way people treat one to the other and the twisting of facts.

  • blackwood

As for the loser remark I am open for a meeting anytime you are.

Feel free to be irrational and hateful if you like and if it makes you feel better to pretend that Layden & Isiah get the same treatment fine but I have been a Knicks fan for 25 years & know for a fact that Isiah is far from the best GM but was twice the GM Layden was! I know who destroyed the Knicks and who walked in to the aftermath of the Layden nuke!!

  • PipeDreamin

@harris… you’re reaching. and you’re making yourself look foolish.

mike d’antoni has gotten just as much hate as anyone else. he’s about as white as they come.

david lee has gotten just as much as isiah if not more. and he is a one of the few talented white ball players in the league. but we call them like we see them.

don’t make it about race harris. have a little class.

i didnt know there were eggshells scattered all over this blog. i better watch my step.

  • JustinCharles

I’m gonna have to disagree with your worst trade and worst contract.

I think they both goto eddy curry. Two high lotto picks into thin air. For mcdyess we lost one higher lotto pick, and an injured camby.

And, I think Currys 5 years to hardly play and never show up in shape is worse than overpaying a Knicks legend who had given many great years to the team and unfortunately got injured.

  • DVJ

Layden was a way worse GM than Thomas. It’s not even close.
All Thomas did was try to win and he tried to get the best players he could.
    Unfortunately it didn’t work out.
The lawsuit just put everything over the top.
That whole Marbury fiasco wasn’t a good look either.
Layden’s moves were so much worse than Isiah’s moves.
    Sorry but it’s the truth.

  • BiggieSmalls

i actually dont think his tenure was THAT bad..

granted he made some poor decisions and it seemed like he NEVEr had a plan.. He went from wanting to run and gun like PHX (remember the “Quick”) to wanting to bang inside with Curry and Zbo to wanting to recreate Clyde/Pearl.. not to mention the harassment suit

he clearly had a mandate from Dolan to rebuild on teh fly.. and he did what he could..

i dont hate IT anywhere near as much as I hate Layden.. but Layden was ions ago in the b ball world.. some of the newbies here prolly dont even remember him..

i think it’s a collossal mistake to have his name in a NYK press release a full 2 years after he was demoted and replaced by Walsh.. it’s just bad karma..

if he wants a back channel role with scouting and free agency then fine.. but no need for a press release. i think his contract JUST expired and they had to give him some kind of title if they were going to continue to use his services going forward..

whatever man.. if some of you think it’s about race i really feel bad for you.. it’s about the knicks.. Thomas never wore the orange and blue and he beat the snot out of us more than once.. i’d just as soon wish Dolan never hired him.. i blame Magic Johnson for recommending him to Dolan..

i hate Dolan Eons more than anyone associated or NOT associated with this team — including Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.. and Larry BRown for that matter..

  • BiggieSmalls

but im curious.. why do some of you defend Zeke?

he played professionally for the Pistons.. in college in Indiana and was born in Chicago..

he beat us Waaaaay more times than i care to remember.

what does this franchise owe to him when Willis Reed is out there working for New Orleanas and PAtrick Ewing is in Orlando.. and Bill Bradley doesnt want anything to do with the Garden or Dolan..

  • ds2488

While I agree, let’s not forget how bad some of Isiah’s moves were. No shots, but he was an awful gm, and I think anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves, regardless of whether he was ordered to not rebuild or not.

  • BiggieSmalls

you dont have to be sorry for the truth.

  • ds2488

lol Biggie. Layden and Dolan were a match made in heaven: 2 incompentent young kids who couldn’t do anything without daddy.

  • onemoretime

I never said he treated me like crap. Can’t say the same for Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkens, Magic Johnson etc. Why is it you never hear any former players speak up on his behalf? If he did such a wonderful job why isn’t he getting offers from other teams? The one who is rewriting history is you. Could it be you are Isiah and are defending your record behind the anonymity of a blog?

  • CircleLimit4

Arguing Layden vs. Thomas is like arguing puke vs. diarrhea. Can’t we just say they both blew? The worst part about both of them is that their reigns came back-to-back.

  • DVJ

Isiah’s moves were bad but Layden epitomizes what a horrible GM is. At least Zeke could draft well. Layden drafted Sweetney and a bunch of European players that sucked. He gave out a $100 million contract to a player than never averaged over 20 ppg. He traded Ewing for about 7 players that sucked. He thought Glen Rice was going to be a star and he didn’t average over 12 ppg for us that season. Layden sunk the ship and Isiah just made it worse.

  • onemoretime

People tend to forget the GM job was thrust upon Layden by Dolan when he forced Dave Checketts out. Layden was Checketts assisstant and was content in being a right hand man until Dolan promoted him in his first of many atrocious basketball decisions.

  • ds2488

This sums up my point right here lol.

  • harris

Pipe Dreamin-I agree. I’m not the one who brought up the stuff about “people from a cult or klan”. I agree with you-that’s the point.

  • DVJ

People were behind the Marbury trade. I remember the day it happened, I was so happy I was chatting up everybody in the office.
I still remember the night he traded for Zach, the entire Garden erupted in cheers.
    Francis was a LB move.
For a season, Curry made Isiah look great.
The Crawford deal was good as well.

    The Jeffries deal sucked.
The Jerome James deal sucked. Even though he was coming off a good showing the year before while in the playoffs. He got to the Knicks and was terrible.

Point with the Marbury trade…nobody was thinking about the draft pick he gave up in 2010, everybody though Marbury would lead this team to at least the playoffs year after year. Needless to say it didn’t work out lol.

Those picks he gave up in the Curry deal was terrible also.

    Drafted Lee
    Drafted Nate
    Drafted Chandler
    Drafted Frye
    Drafted Balkman

  • ds2488

I agree that Layden sunk the ship and Isiah made it worse. All I’m saying is Isiah was quite awful in his own way. For every Glen Rice, there was a Jared Jeffries and Jerome James. For every good draft pick Isiah made, there was a Balkman over Rondo, or a Frye over Bynum and Granger.

You don’t think all Layden tried to do “was try to win and get the best players he could”? They both tried, they both failed. I guess I fail to see the point of comparing the two.

It’s not something I prefer to keep talking about, but every post and thread involves Isiah as of the moment. We have our favorite owner Jimmy boy Dolan to thank for that.

  • harris

The fact is Isiah was found liable-bs lawsuit or not. That is the plain truth. There is nothing “bigoted” about it. And while I completely agree with your assessment about Layden as GM, I don’t remember any similarly embarrassing incidents involving him while he was in charge. To make this an issue about race is just ridiculous.

  • ds2488

people were behind the Marbury trade, but what people didn’t notice was that Isiah unneccesarily gave up the entire farm not just to get Marbury, but to take on the franchise killing contract of Penny hardaway. He singlehandedly destroyed any chance the team had of getting out of salary cap purgatory with that trade, and it was all a rush job.

to just blame LB for the Francis trade doesn’t sit right with me…Isiah was still the gm at the time, and judging how things turned out just a month later, Zeke had all the power all along.

The Zach trade was another classic: Have everyone look at the shiny new toy while forgetting that a frontcourt of Randolph and Curry could never, ever work at all.

The crawford deal was about as far from “good” as possible. The knicks took on Jerome Williams contract to get him, only to end up cutting Jerome with like 3 years and 21 million left on his contract(no seriously, look it up. Im not making this up.)

And again, while he had some good picks, he also had some awful picks as well. Overall, I’d still say he has a decent eye for talent, but he’s not nearly the drafter he’s made out to be by some on here imo.

  • PipeDreamin

    ahhh sarcasm.

  • bluemax

    Very good point biggie.

I suspect it’s because he is a HOF player and they admired him as a player.

Funny though, nobody admires Phil Jackson. Yet how many Phils are there…hmmm. Maybe one.

In sport only the players get the credit, even if they are knuckleheads. That’s the culture. The coach not so much.

  • http://Knicks.com/ Russ

People are far more focused on Zeke than Layden in large part because Zeke is still associated with the Knicks, while Layden is long gone with no rumors about him returning. When we start reading articles that Layden has Dolan’s ear, or that Walsh might hire him as GM, you’ll start reading the same rage from fans towards Layden that is currently directed at Isiah. Until that happens, it is a huge mistake to interpret this disparity as bigotry.

Isiah Rejoining Knicks May Not Be A Done Deal!
AUTHOR: Alex David, aka Short White Boy | IN: Free Agency/Trades/Front Office | COMMENTS: 1 Comment |
Apparently the league is reviewing whether or not to allow the Knicks to add Isiah Thomas back to the fold. No, it’s not part of a higher goal of righting all the wrongs in the universe. In my previous bitch-festpost about Isiah being hired as a consultant, I didn’t mention that it was only a part-time gig and that he was keeping his job as coach at Florida International University. The NBA rightly sees this as a potential conflict-of-interest. This info comes from an article on nba.com where they reported:
“We are reviewing the agreement, in consultation with the Knicks, for compliance with league rules,” league spokesman Tim Frank said via email.
What’s the possible conflict? For instance if a player at FIU comes to his coach for advice as to whether or not he should enter the NBA draft, what does Isiah say? Does he try to keep FIU’s program going strong and convince the kid to stay, or does he try to help out the Knicks and mention that New York wants the prospect? Or on the other end of the spectrum, it could also conceivably give Isiah/FIU an unfair advantage when he’s trying to recruit high school players to commit to FIU (“By the way, I also works for an NBA team so if things go well at FIU maybe I can put in a good word for you…”).
One other separate thing, unrelated to whether the deal will be approved or not. I hadn’t realized that Isiah brought his same brand of winning basketball from the Knicks to FIU. The university’s team went 7-25 last year.
Tell me again why we’re bringing this guy back?

  • Chris Alvino

Jerome James was a worse contract, hands down.

At least Curry could play when we traded for him and signed him. James could never play.

  • Chris Alvino

Yeah that was just stupid, but it doesn’t make a difference to me. I like these other guys taking subtle shots at LeBron.

  • Chris Alvino

How about this… they were both bad!

  • Chris Alvino

And losing seasons. Losing seasons caused in part by bad general management.

  • Chris Alvino

Good GMs make their decisions work out. Bad GMs a lot of times make moves that seem good, but do not work out. Does that make them good GMs?

  • MadSeason

Even attempting to make this about race is insulting to every single Knicks’ fan. Yes Layden was terrible, he was a nightmare, but you know the difference between Layden and Thomas? We’re not bringing back Layden as a “consultant”. If we were everyone would be spewing the same hatred towards Layden.
So please stop trying to make this about something it’s not.
In 5+ years with the Knicks Isiah’s teams got progressively worse. Isiah’s teams won ZERO playoff games. Isiah’s teams were so far over the salary cap with players no one wanted that it took two solid seasons of getting pennies on the dollar just to get under the salary cap. Isiah brought shame to the organization with the sexual harassment lawsuit. The Knicks were a laughingstock and a countrywide punch line.
So based on all of these facts, why is he being brought back to the organization in any capacity? Why? What can he possibly offer this team? What can he possibly do for this team?
The man is a lowlife. The worst type of person imaginable.
After a great offseason where we were nearly cleansed of his toxic decisions, he gets invited back by the king of the fools himself – James Dolan.
This is a sad and dark period for Knicks’ fans.
I’m sorry, I usually always try to see both sides of an argument, but with Isiah I simply can’t understand this loyalty to someone who did nothing but bring disgrace and shame to a once proud organization.
Dolan and Isiah, you two truly deserve each other.

If (if!!!) Danilo Gallinari shows that he might be the next Dirk Nowitzki (I am not comparing Gallo to Dirk) and Anthony Randolph turns into a young Scottie Pippen, would you guys use their trade value to aquire Chris Paul or Carmelo Anthony or would you keep them?

I think it’s a very interesting question. There’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to win a championship with, say, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire. The Miami Heat will probably rule the Eastern Conference for the next 5 years and there’s no reason to believe that Melo and Amar’e will be able to sustain their level of play in their early 30′s. Anthony Randolph and Danilo Gallinari are only 21 years old I believe, they will be entering their prime in 2015-2016. I’m not saying that the Knicks necessarily need to wait until AR and Gallo reach their potential but if they do reach their potential the Knicks might have a better chance of winning a championship with them (chill I’m not saying it is going to happen). If Gallinari and Randolph reach the 19-20 points per game plateau like Nowitzki and Pippen did during their third year in the NBA, would you trade them for Paul or Melo?

  • onemoretime

I would keep them. I’ve always been partial to homegrown talent.

  • CircleLimit4

I would use one in a trade one for CP3 even if they reached their ceilings. CP3 is an extremely special PG in what is beginning to look like an era of special PGs (Williams, Rose, Westbrook, Evans, Jennings, Curry, Collison, Wall?, etc.) CP3 is the best of the aforementioned, IMO. In D’antoni’s system, CP3 would be beyond valuable.

I cursed Layden all the time. He was a horrible GM, but Zeke is also an asshole, so he gets a double serving a whoop ass.
And the fact that he is an African-American gets him yet another can of whoop ass. Why? Because Blackwood has made me hate all Black people. That’s why.

Oh, except for my best friend and my little nieces. They are still cool with me. But all the other ones…

  • TobyKnight

Blackwood is really Isiah and Yo Son is really Wilson Chandler.

It’s all starting to make sense now.

  • TobyKnight

    Great points Biggie.
I hate Dolan even more than I hate Zeke. And I’ve got some Irish in me.

Blackwood my man, you are a prisoner of your race consciousness. Free yourself, so you can hate people based on their merits, not their skin color.

  • TobyKnight

    LOL.

Wonder how LBJ is going to greet him the next time Miami plays Minny?

  • TobyKnight

Layden made some really horrible moves.
    WTF was he thinking?
    Stupid honkey.

  • ds2488

lol Mucha. Those are some good questions to ponder. I love the pre-emptive defense before people come on and think you’re comparing Gallo to Nowitzki lol.

  • TobyKnight

    +1

For Deron Williams or CP3 I’d give up one, but hold on to the other if at all possible.

  • dino of syracuse

Although I’m not a fan of Isiah as a leader with the Knicks…I’d like to learn his secret.

How does one constantly land on his feet like that?

    It is quite remarkable!

  • Mucha

lol you know what it is…

  • Mucha

    He must feel invincible now.

  • ScottD

Sorry to inform you Blackwood, but it was not Layden who was behind the Allan Houston $100,000,000 deal!
    It was Jim Dolan.
    Check your history.

I also don’t recall any other NBA executive having been found to be liable by a jury for sexual harrassment; nor do I recall any other NBA executive having tried to cover up for overdosing on sleeping
pills by blaming his daughter. Those type of episodes tend to get you bashed in the newspaper.

  • PipeDreamin

thank u harris. people see what they want to see.
